It is proved that in a T 3 space countable closed sets have countable character if and only if the set of limit point of the space is a countable compact set and every compact set is of countable character. Also, it is shown that spaces where countable sets have countable character are WN-spaces and are very close to M-spaces. Finally, some questions of Dai and Lia are discussed and some questions are proposed.  相似文献

A topological spaceX is called weakly first countable, if for every pointx there is a countable family {C n x |nω} such thatxC n +1x C n x and such thatUX is open iff for eachxU someC n x is contained inU. This weakening of first countability is due to A. V. Arhangelskii from 1966, who asked whether compact weakly first countable spaces are first countable. In 1976, N. N. Jakovlev gave a negative answer under the assumption of continuum hypothesis. His result was strengthened by V. I. Malykhin in 1982, again under CH. In the present paper we construct various Jakovlev type spaces under the weaker assumption b=c, and also by forcing. We consider a diffusion process {x(t)} on a compact Riemannian manifold with generator δ/2 + b. A current‐valued continuous stochastic process {X t} in the sense of Itô [8] corresponds to {x(t)} by considering the stochastic line integral X t(a) along {x(t)} for every smooth 1-form a. Furthermore {X t} is decomposed into the martingale part and the bounded variation part as a current-valued continuous process. We show the central limit theorems for {X t} and the martingale part of {X t}. Occupation time laws for recurrent diffusions and homogenization problems of periodic diffusions are closely related to these theorems  相似文献

We will prove that some so‐called union theorems (see [2]) are equivalent in ZF0 to statements about the transitive closure of relations. The special case of “bounded” union theorems dealing with κ‐hereditary sets yields equivalents to statements about the transitive closure of κ‐narrow relations. The instance κ = ω1 (i. e., hereditarily countable sets) yields an equivalent to Howard‐Rubin's Form 172 (the transitive closure Tc(x) of every hereditarily countable set x is countable). In particular, the countable union theorem (Howard‐Rubin's Form 31) and, a fortiori, the axiom of countable choice imply Form 172.  相似文献

We investigate in ZF (i.e., Zermelo‐Fraenke set theory without the axiom of choice) conditions that are necessary and sufficient for countable products ∏m∈ℕXm of (a) finite Hausdorff spaces Xm resp. (b) Hausdorff spaces Xm with at most n points to be compact resp. Baire. Typica results: (i) Countable products of finite Hausdorff spaces are compact (resp. Baire) if and only if countable products of non‐empty finite sets are non‐empty. (ii) Countable products of discrete spaces with at most n + 1 points are compact (resp. Baire) if and only if countable products of non‐empty sets with at most n points are non‐empty.  相似文献

This paper contains some theorems related to the best approximation ρn(f;E) to a function f in the uniform metric on a compact set by rational functions of degree at most n. We obtain results characterizing the relationship between ρn(f;K) and ρn(f;E) in the case when complements of compact sets K and E are connected, K is a subset of the interior Ω of E, and f is analytic in Ω and continuous on E.  相似文献

Let {Xn} be a ?-irreducible Markov chain on an arbitrary space. Sufficient conditions are given under which the chain is ergodic or recurrent. These extend known results for chains on a countable state space. In particular, it is shown that if the space is a normed topological space, then under some continuity conditions on the transition probabilities of {Xn} the conditions for ergodicity will be met if there is a compact set K and an ? > 0 such that E {6Xn+16 — 6Xn6 ∣ Xn = x} ? ?? whenever x lies outside K and E{6Xn+16 ∣ Xn=x} is bounded, xK; whilst the conditions for recurrence will be met if there exists a compact K with E {6Xn+16 ? 6Xn6 ∣ Xn = x} ? 0 for all x outside K. We describe two complete partially ordered sets which are the intersection of complete linear orderings but which have no compatible Hausdorff topology. The solutions of the dfferential equation Lnx + a0(t)x = 0, where Ln is a disconjugate operator and a0 is of one sign, are studied according to their behavior as t → ∞. We prove equivalence theorems between solutions of this equation and its adjoint in terms of property A and property B. These theorems generalize the results known for n = 3 and for odd order binomial equations. Some applications are given too.  相似文献

N. H. Kuiper has generalized the notion of total absolute curvature for compact polyhedra in euclidean space by considering the critical points of all height functions (cf. [12]). On the other hand in the case of compact smooth manifolds with boundary in E n there is a certain relation between the total absolute curvatures of the total space, the interior and the boundary (cf. [9]). In this note we show an analogous relation in the case of compact polyhedral manifolds with boundary leading to theorems of the Chern/Lashof type (cf. [3], [7]).  相似文献

Geometric process (GP) was introduced by Lam[4,5], it is defined as a stochastic process {Xn, n = 1, 2,…} for which there exists a real number a > 0, such that {an-1 Xn, n = 1,2, …} forms a renewal process (RP). In this paper, we study some limit theorems in GP. We first derive the Wald equation for GP and then obtain the limit theorems of the age, residual life and the total life at t for a GP. A general limit theorem for Sn with a > 1 is also studied. Furthermore, we make a comparison between GP and RP, including the comparison of their limit distributions of the age, residual life and the total life at t.  相似文献

We consider problems of control and problems of optimal control, monitored by an abstract equation of the formEx=N u x in a finite interval [0,T]; here,x is the state variable with values in a reflexive Banach space;u is the control variable with values in a metric space;E is linear and monotone; andN u is nonlinear of the Nemitsky type. Thus, by well-known devices, the results apply also to parabolic partial differential equations in a cylinder [0,TG,G n , with Cauchy data fort=0 and Dirichlet or Neumann conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder. We prove existence theorems for solutions and existence theorems for optimal solutions, by reduction to a theorem of Kemochi for reflexive Banach spaces.  相似文献

The theory of regenerative phenomena is applied to the question: what functions of t can arise in this way? This paper deals with the relation between the McShane integral and the Henstock–Kurzweil integral for the functions mapping a compact interval into a Banach space X and some other questions in connection with the McShane integral and the Henstock–Kurzweil integral of Banach space-valued functions. We prove that if a Banach space-valued function f is Henstock–Kurzweil integrable on I0 and satisfies Property (P), then I0 can be written as a countable union of closed sets En such that f is McShane integrable on each En when X contains no copy of c0. Bierstedt and Bonet proved in 1988 that if a metrizable locally convex space E satisfies the Heinrich's density condition, then every bounded set in the strong dual (E ′, β (E ′, E)) of E is metrizable; consequently E is distinguished, i.e. (E ′, β (E ′, E)) is quasibarrelled. However there are examples of distinguished Fréchet spaces whose strong dual contains nonmetrizable bounded sets. We prove that a metrizable locally convex space E is distinguished iff every bounded set in the strong dual (E ′, β (E ′, E)) has countable tightness, i.e. for every bounded set A in (E ′, β (E ′, E)) and every x in the closure of A there exists a countable subset B of A whose closure contains x.
