The uniform approximation property in Orlicz spaces

It is proved that for every reflexive Orlicz spaceX there is a functionn(k,ε) so that wheneverE is ak-dimensional subspace ofX there exists an operatorT: X→X such thatT _1E=identity, ‖T‖≦1+ε and dimTX≦n(k,ε). Orlicz property and cotype in symmetric sequence spaces

We construct a symmetric sequence space that satisfies the Orlicz property but that fails to be of cotype 2. Work partially supported by an NSF grant.     

On approximation in Weighted Orlicz spaces

An inverse theorem of the trigonometric approximation theory in Weighted Orlicz spaces is proved and the constructive characterization of the generalized Lipschitz classes defined in these spaces is obtained.     

On best interpolation in Orlicz spaces

For given data, an interpolant is sought, so that a certain convex functional defined by a Young's function in the corresponding Orlicz space is minimized. The freedom gained in considering more general kind of spaces can be used for selecting the interpolants in an adequate class of functions. On non-effective weights in Orlicz spaces

Given a weight w in Ω ⊂ ∝^N, |Ω| < ∞ and a Young function φ, we consider the weighted modular ∫_Ω ω(f(x))w(x)dx and the resulting weighted Orlicz space L_ω(w). For a Young function Ω ∉ Δ₂(∞) we present a necessary and sufficient conditions in order that L_ω(w) = L_ω(X_Ω) up to the equivalence of norms. We find a necessary and sufficient condition for ω in order that there exists an unbounded weight w such that the above equality of spaces holds. By way of applications we simplify criteria from [5] for continuity of the composition operator from L_ω into itself when ω Δ₂(∞) and obtain necessary and sufficient condition in order that the composition operator maps L_ω. continuously onto L_ω.

On approximation by polynomials in Orlicz spaces

In this paper, we prove Jackson theorem of derivative type in Orlicz spaces, and the results of this paper are generalization of the results of A.-R.K. Ramazanov in [2].     

On Orlicz sequence spaces. II

Given a separable Orlicz sequence spacel _F we investigate those Orlicz sequence spacesl _f which are isomorphic to subspaces (respectively complemented subspaces) ofl _F. We give in particular an example of a reflexive Orlicz sequence space which does not contain anyl _p, 1<p<∞, as a complemented subspace.     

Kadec-Klee property in Musielak-Orlicz function spaces equipped with the Orlicz norm

It is well-known that the Kadec-Klee property is an important property in the geometry of Banach spaces. It is closely connected with the approximation compactness and fixed point property of non-expansive mappings. In this paper, a criterion for Musielak-Orlicz function spaces equipped with the Orlicz norm to have the Kadec-Klee property are given. As a corollary, we obtain that a class of non-reflexive Musielak-Orlicz function spaces have the Fixed Point property.

     

Polyhedrality in Orlicz spaces

We present a construction of an Orlicz space admitting a C ^∞-smooth bump which depends locally on finitely many coordinates, and which is not isomorphic to a subspace of any C(K), K scattered. In view of the related results this space is possibly not isomorphic to a polyhedral space. Prediction in Orlicz spaces

In this paper, we investigate the prediction (or best approximation) operator from a uniformly convex real Orlicz space to a subset of -lattice measurable functions. In particular, a counterexample to the monotoncity property, which holds in L_p spaces, is given. Also, a sufficient condition for monotonicity to hold is given. On the Baronti constants of Orlicz function spaces

In this paper we calculate the value of the Baronti constants of the Orlicz function spaces equipped with either the Orlicz norm or the gauge norm.
