Let X be a proper, smooth, connected curve, defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0 and of genus g 2. We show that there exists a finite solvable group G, of order prime to p, and a Galois étale cover Y X, with Galois group G, which is not ordinary.

We consider economic decision problems under uncertainty consisting of choosing an optimal decisionX, so as to maximize to expected value of an objective function depending on a stochastic parameterp. The paper establishes an optimal policy intervalX A X 1 X B, where the boundsX A,X B are given in terms of simple parameters of the distribution ofp, in particular the mean, and the mean absolute deviationd=E ¦p– ¦. The convexity assumptions needed to establish such bounds are shown to hold naturally in some classical problems of production under uncertainty.

LetX,X 1,X 2,... be i.i.d. random vectors in d. The limit laws that can arise by suitable affine normalizations of the partial sums,S n=X 1+...+X n, are calledoperator-stable laws. These laws are a natural extension to d of the stable laws on. Thegeneralized domain of attraction of [GDOA()] is comprised of all random vectorsX whose partial sums can be affinely normalized to converge to . If the linear part of the affine transformation is restricted to take the formn –B for some exponent operatorB naturally associated to thenX is in thegeneralized domain of normal attraction of [GDONA()]. This paper extends the theory of operator-stable laws and their domains of attraction and normal attraction.

Suppose given a Galois étale cover YX of proper non-singular curves over an algebraically closed field k of prime characteristic p. Let H be its Galois group, and G any finite extension of H by a p-group P. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on G to be the Galois group of an étale cover of X dominating YX.in final form: 16 September 2003  相似文献

Let p be an odd prime satisfying Vandiver’s conjecture. We consider two objects, the Galois group X of the maximal unramified abelian pro-p extension of the compositum of all Z p -extensions of Q p ) and the Galois group of the maximal unramified pro-p extension of Q . We give a lower bound for the height of the annihilator of X as an Iwasawa module. Under some mild assumptions on Bernoulli numbers, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for to be abelian. The bound and the condition in the two results are given in terms of special values of a cup product pairing on cyclotomic p-units. We obtain in particular that, for p  <  1,000, Greenberg’s conjecture that X is pseudo-null holds and is in fact abelian.

Let X be a separable compact Abelian group, Aut(X) the group of topological automorphisms of X, f n: XX a homomorphism f n(x)=nx, and X (n)=Im f n. Denote by I(X) the set of idempotent distributions on X and by (X) the set of Gaussian distributions on X. Consider linear statistics L 1= 1( 1)+ 2( 2) and L 2= 1( 1)+ 2( 2), where j are independent random variables taking on values in X and with distributions j, and j, jAut(X). The following results are obtained. Let X be a totally disconnected group. Then the independence of L 1 and L 2 implies that 1, 2I(X) if and only if X possesses the property: for each prime p the factor-group X/X (p) is finite. If X is connected, then there exist independent random variables j taking on values in X and with distributions j, and j, jAut(X) such that L 1 and L 2 are independent, whereas 1, 2(X) * I(X).

Let X be a reduced connected k-scheme pointed at a rational point xX(k). By using tannakian techniques we construct the Galois closure of an essentially finite k-morphism f:YX satisfying the condition H0(Y,OY)=k; this Galois closure is a torsor dominating f by an X-morphism and universal for this property. Moreover, we show that is a torsor under some finite group scheme we describe. Furthermore we prove that the direct image of an essentially finite vector bundle over Y is still an essentially finite vector bundle over X. We develop for torsors and essentially finite morphisms a Galois correspondence similar to the usual one. As an application we show that for any pointed torsor f:YX under a finite group scheme satisfying the condition H0(Y,OY)=k, Y has a fundamental group scheme π1(Y,y) fitting in a short exact sequence with π1(X,x).

Let X 1, , X n (n > p) be a random sample from multivariate normal distribution N p (, ), where R p and is a positive definite matrix, both and being unknown. We consider the problem of estimating the precision matrix –1. In this paper it is shown that for the entropy loss, the best lower-triangular affine equivariant minimax estimator of –1 is inadmissible and an improved estimator is explicitly constructed. Note that our improved estimator is obtained from the class of lower-triangular scale equivariant estimators.

For a prime p, a cyclic-by-p group G and a G-extension L|K of complete discrete valuation fields of characteristic p with algebraically closed residue field, the local lifting problem asks whether the extension L|K lifts to characteristic zero. In this paper, we characterize D4-extensions of fields of characteristic two, determine the ramification breaks of (suitable) D4- extensions of complete discrete valuation fields of characteristic two, and solve the local lifting problem in the affirmative for every D4-extension of complete discrete valuation fields of characteristic two with algebraically closed residue field; that is, we show that D4 is a local Oort group for the prime 2.

It is proved that whenever X and Y are completely regular -spaces of pointwise countable type and the spaces C p(X) and C p(Y) of real-valued continuous functions on X and Y, respectively, endowed with the topology of pointwise convergence, are linearly homeomorphic, the X is locally compact iff Y is locally compact. This extends the McCoy and Ntantu result.

In this paper, for a complete discrete valuation field K of mixed characteristic (0,p) and a finite flat group scheme G of p-power order over OK, we determine the tame characters appearing in the Galois representation in terms of the ramification theory of Abbes and Saito, without any restriction on the absolute ramification index of K or the embedding dimension of G.

Let (X,l,) be a measure space, letW be a cylindrical Hilbert-Wiener process, and let be an anticipating integrable process-valued function onX. We prove, under natural assumptions on, that there exists a measurable version Yx,x X, of the anticipating integral of(x) such that the integral x Yx(dx) is a version of the anticipating integral of X (x)(dx). We apply this anticipating Fubini theorem to study solutions of a class of stochastic evolution equations in Hilbert space.

It is shown that every countable group G has a faithful representation as an ergodic freelyacting group of transformations of a commutative Neumann algebra M with measure, leaving the measure quasi-invariant, while there does not exist a measure which is equivalent to and invariant with respect to G.Translated from Matematicheskie Zametki, Vol. 7, No. 2, pp. 223–227, February, 1970.

For any stable distribution on the line, recurrence-transience of the selfsimilar additive process {X t ,t0} with (X 1)= is determined. Comparison with the stable Lévy process {Y t ,t0} with (Y 1)= is made: if is not strictly stable, then {Y t } is transient but {X t } is recurrent except the obviously transient case of monotone sample functions.

Let G be a compact Lie group, and let LG denote the corresponding loop group. Let (X,) be a weakly symplectic Banach manifold. Consider a Hamiltonian action of LG on (X,), and assume that the moment map :XL * is proper. We consider the function ||2:X, and use a version of Morse theory to show that the inclusion map j:-1(0)X induces a surjection j *:H G *(X)H G *(-1(0)), in analogy with Kirwans surjectivity theorem in the finite-dimensional case. We also prove a version of this surjectivity theorem for quasi-Hamiltonian G-spaces.

Letx be a metrizable locally convex space with a Schauder basis and letB(T) be a -ring generated by the compact subsets of a locally compact Hausdorff spaceT. We prove that any vector measure :B(T)X which has an antiregular relative is antimonogenic (Theorem 16) and that can be uniquely decomposable, = 1 + 2, where 1 is monogenic and 2 has an antiregular relative (Theorem 19). These results are due to R. A. Johnshon [6] for the case whereX is the real line.

Let X and Y be locally compact-compact topological spaces, F X×Y is closed, and P(F) is the set of all Borel probability measures on F. For us to find, for the pair of probability measures (x, y P (XP(Y), a probability measure P(F) such that X = X –1 , Y = Y –1 it is necessary and sufficient that, for any pair of Borel sets A X, B Y for which (A× B) F=Ø, the condition XA+ YB 1 holds.Translated from Matematicheskie Zametki, Vol. 14, No. 4, pp. 573–576, October, 1973.

Consider a valuation ringR of a discrete Henselian field and a positive integerr. LetF be the quotient field of the ringR[[X 1, …,X r ]]. We prove that every finite group occurs as a Galois group overF. In particular, ifK 0 is an arbitrary field andr≥2, then every finite group occurs as a Galois group overK 0((X 1, …,X r )).
