2,6-Diphenyl-4-(2,4,6-triphenylpyridinium-1-yl)phenolate (1a) and 4-[(1-methyl-4(1H)-pyridinylidene)-ethylidene]-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one (2a) were protonated in organic solvents (dichloromethane, acetonitrile, and DMSO) to form 1b and 2b, respectively. The appearance of the solvatochromic bands of 1a and 2a was studied UV-vis spectrophotometrically by deprotonation of 1b and 2b in solution in the presence of the following amines: aniline (AN), N-methylaniline (NMAN), N,N-dimethylaniline (NDAN), n-butylamine (BA), diethylamine (DEA), and triethylamine (TEA). Titrations of 1b and 2b with the amines were carried out and the binding constants were determined from the titration curves in each solvent, using a mathematical model adapted from the literature which considers the simultaneous participation of two dye: amine stoichiometries, 1:1 and 1:2. The data obtained showed the following base order for the two compounds in DMSO: BA>DEA>TEA, while aromatic amines did not cause any effect. In dichloromethane, the following base order for 1b was verified: TEA>DEA>BA?NDAN, while for 2b the order was: TEA>DEA>BA, suggesting that 1b is more acidic than 2b. The data in acetonitrile indicated for 1b and 2b the following order for the amines: DEA>TEA>BA. The diversity of the experimental data were explained based on a model that considers the level of interaction of the protonated dyes with the amines to be dependent on three aspects: (a) the basicity of the amine, which varies according to their molecular structure and the solvent in which it is dissolved, (b) the molecular structure of the dye, and (c) the solvent used to study the system.  相似文献

The UV-vis spectroscopic behavior of dyes: 2,6-diphenyl-4-(2,4,6-triphenylpyridinium-1-yl)phenolate (1) and 4-[(1-methyl-4(1H)-pyridinylidene)-ethylidene]-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one (2) was investigated in solutions of methyl- beta-cyclodextrin (methyl-beta-CyD), using water, methanol, ethanol, propan-2-ol, butan-1-ol, acetone, acetonitrile, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA), chloroform and dichloromethane as solvents. In aqueous solutions of dye (2) the addition of M-beta-CD leads to a bathochromic shift (of the maximum absorption), showing that the probe was transferred to a microenvironment of lower polarity and suggesting the formation of a 1 : 1 dye (2) : CyD inclusion complex, with a binding constant of 128.5 +/- 3.5 dm(3) mol(-1). Data for dye 2 in alcohols showed hypsochromic shifts, which increased in the following order: methanol < ethanol < propan-2-ol < butan-1-ol. These observations appear to reflect dye-solvent interactions through hydrogen bonding. If dye-solvent interactions are strong, the CyD-dye interactions are consequently weak, but the latter increase in importance when the dye-solvent interaction becomes weaker. With hydrogen-bond accepting solvents, data for both dyes showed clearly increasing hypsochromic shifts following the order: DMSO < DMA < DMF < acetone < acetonitrile. This order is exactly the inverse of the increasing order of basicity of the medium. This indicates that the dominant factor for the observed effects in these solvents is the solvent-CyD interaction through hydrogen bonding involving the hydroxyl groups of the CyD and the basic groups of the solvents. These interactions diminish in intensity if the basic character of the medium is reduced, increasing the capability of the dye to interact with the CyD using its phenoxide donor moiety. The largest hypsochromic shifts were obtained in chloroform (66.0 nm) and dichloromethane (67.5 nm) with dye after addition of methyl-beta-CyD. In these specific situations, solvents display weak basic and acid properties, that enhanced CyD-dye interactions to such an extent that association complexes formed through hydrogen bonding could be detected (K11) values of 24.8 +/- 4.9 dm3 mol(-1) in dichloromethane and 66.1 +/- 8.0 dm3 mol(-1) in chloroform).  相似文献

Because of the way the electrostatic potential is defined in a crystal, it is not possible to determine potential-derived charges for atoms in a crystal. To overcome this limitation, we present a novel method for determining atomic charges for a molecule in a crystal based on a fit to the electric field at points on a surface around the molecule. Examples of fits to the electric field at points on a Hirshfeld surface, using crystal Hartree-Fock electron densities computed with a DZP basis set are presented for several organic molecular crystals. The field-derived charges for common functional groups are transferable, and reflect chemical functionality as well as the subtle effects of intermolecular interactions. The charges also yield an excellent approximation to the electric field surrounding a molecule in a crystal for use in cluster calculations on molecules in solids.  相似文献

Polymers tagged with a local pH reporter were synthesized. A methacrylate-type monomer containing a merocyanine dye residue as a reporter dye—1-(2-methacryloyloxyethyl)-4-(2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-ethenyl)quinolinium bromide—was synthesized. Its homopolymer and copolymers with sodium 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonate were prepared by free radical polymerization. These polymers showed a characteristic color change in aqueous solutions from yellow to red with increasing pH from acidic to basic conditions according to the acid-base equilibria of the merocyanine dye residues. Since the electrostatic potential and polarity of media have a strong effect on the acid–base equilibria, the pendant merocyanine residues are expected to serve as a reporter to provide information on the local environments around the polymer chain at which the dye molecules are incorporated.  相似文献

Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films are constructed by successively transferring monomolecular layers formed at the air-water interface onto solid substrates. One of the advantages of the LB technique in fabricating molecular aggregates lies in the fact that it can employ various kinds of molecules by mixing them at the air-water interface. The mixed system may exhibit new properties that are not observed for individual components. This method would be useful, for example, in the studies of the formation and control of the J-aggregates of functional dyes that attract attention both in science and technology. In this paper, I review this subject mainly based on our recent results in merocyanines. LB films of merocyanine dyes, mixed with arachidic acid (C(20)), exhibit J-aggregate formation and have been serving as typical systems in revealing the physical and structural aspects of nanosized molecular aggregates constructed as monolayers. In the case of LB films of a merocyanine dye having benzothiazole as donor nucleus (abbreviated as DS), electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy has been successful in determining the characteristic in-plane orientation of dye molecules with respect to the dipping direction, which led to the discovery of the flow orientation effect during the dipping process of LB films as the origin of optical dichroism often observed in LB films. In this article, after an introduction of ESR spectroscopy, three major topics on the merocyanine J-aggregation and its characterization in mixed films are discussed. The first topic is the observation and control of the size of J-aggregates in the dilution limit of dyes in arachidic acid matrix for a methyl-substituted DS (6-Me-DS). Dependence of atomic force microscopy (AFM) patterns on the molar ratio allows the identification of dye domains. J-band optical peak analysis based on the Kuhn's extended dipole model, supplemented by a novel application of femtosecond pump-probe optical spectroscopy, yields the size of the J-aggregates of 10(3). The second topic is the control of the J-band peak wavelengths by mixing two different kinds of dye molecules. The first case is the mixture of a J-forming 6-Me-DS and non-J-forming merocyanine analog, DO with benzo-oxazole instead of benzothiazole of DS. The second case is the mixture of both J-forming dyes but with different J-band peak positions, 6-Me-DS and another analog of 5-Cl-DS. The optical peak shifts depending on the molar mixing ratio will be presented. The last topic is related to the elucidation of electronic states of dye molecules in the J-aggregates. Light-induced ESR (LESR) of DS films with stable isotope ((15)N or (13)C)-substituted dyes provide clear evidence for the photoinduced charge transfer by the detection of hyperfine structures. Moreover, infrared (IR) spectroscopy of (13)C-enriched dye identifies the IR absorption peak of the relevant carbon in the chromophore. The results give evidence for the enhanced intramolecular charge transfer of dyes in the J-aggregates compared with an isolated merocyanine composed of donor and acceptor moiety. Lastly, the Cl attachment in 5-Cl-DS leads to a significant enhancement of the nitrogen hyperfine coupling in the LESR spectra. These examples and others demonstrate the potential of LB films of merocyanines in the studies of the nanosized molecular aggregates in monolayer assemblies.  相似文献

A series of bichromophores consisting of a ‘classical’ chromophore and 4H-imidazoles were synthesized starting from appropriate cyano and carboxy functionalized systems. In their UV-vis spectra, an additive absorption of both chromophores was detected making them wide range-absorbing dyes. In addition, new properties as redox activity, pH-switchability and metal-chelating substructures are newly introduced into the molecules. In order to achieve more bathochromic absorbing systems, the chromophore of 4H-imidazoles was extended. The 4H-imidazo-[1,2-a]-pyridines, which are easily accessible by cyclization of 2-aminopyridines with bis-imidoylchlorides, show long wavelength absorptions up to 616 nm. Their reduction reversibly yields yellow, blue fluorescent 1-azaindolizines. In contrast to leuco-forms of 4H-imidazoles, these reduction products show a high stability towards oxygen and could only be reoxidized to their starting materials by oxidation agents, such as DDQ.  相似文献

The fluorescent properties of a series of symmetric cationic cyanine dyes and merocyanines with trimethylene bridge connecting N-atom of the indole residue with α-position of the polymethine chain have been explored in detail. It is shown that the constraining group influences their fluorescent properties both by steric and electronic effects. It revealed an essential decrease of the fluorescence quantum yields of the constrained symmetric cyanine dyes in comparison with those of their analogues without bridge group in their chromophore. This effect diminishes essentially at polymethine chain lengthening. In the case of merocyanines the bridge group can cause a decrease as well a substantial increase of their fluorescence quantum yields depending on their type of solvatochromism and solvent polarity. The conclusions made on the basis of the experimental data are in good agreement with the results of semiempirical quantum-chemical calculations.  相似文献

We synthesized three metal-free organic dyes (H11H13) consisting of a 3,6-disubstituted carbazole, benzothiadiazole, and cyanoacrylic acid. All the dyes exhibited high molar extinction coefficients and suitable energy levels for electron transfer from the electrolyte to the TiO2 nanoparticles. Under standard AM 1.5G solar irradiation, the device using dye H13 with co-adsorbed chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) displayed the best performance: an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.71 V, a short-circuit current density (Jsc) of 12.69 mA cm−2, a fill factor (FF) of 0.71, and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.32%. The PCE was ∼79% of that for commercially available N719 cells (8.02%) under the same conditions.  相似文献

The use of the triphenylmethane dyes (erioglaucine, eriogreen, and xylene cynol FF) as internal indicators in the cerimetric titration of uraniumIV has been investigated. The titration is possible in the cold with sufficient rapidity and accuracy, the indicator colour change appearing sharply at the equivalence point. The indicator reactions are rapid and reversible within a wide range of acidity, from 0.5N to 8.0N, unlike other indicators, e.g. diphenylbenzidine, -phenylanth-ranilic acid or ferroïn, which require specified conditions for their proper functioning. These indicators can also beused for titration of uraniumIV with eerie ammonium nitrate in perchloric acid medium (but not in nitric acid medium).  相似文献

It is known that an amphiphilic merocyanine dye, 3-carboxymethyl-5-[2-(3-octadecyl-2(3H)- benzothiazolylidene)ethylidene]-2-thioxo-4-thiazolidinone (DS) and its derivatives DSe and 6MeDS form J aggregates under the presence of metallic cations, although the dyes' static dipole moments must be favorable for H aggregates. A metal-free J aggregate of 6MeDS has been generated in its pure Langmuir films and transferred onto CaF2 substrates to investigate the molecular environment around the carboxylic group born by the dye. Combining visible and infrared spectroscopy, geometrical consideration based on ab initio calculations, and simulation of the excitation energy, a structural model of this J aggregate has been proposed. With this model, formation of intermolecular carboxyl-keto hydrogen bonds, which can compensate the electrostatic disadvantage of the J aggregate under the presence of water, has been suggested. As for another derivative of DS, DO, similar discussion has been made for its Mg2+ -containing J aggregate, which is found in this work. In addition, the proposed structural model can tell the cause of the difference in the tendency to J aggregate among 6MeDS, DSe, DS, and DO.  相似文献

In LIF (laser-induced fluorescence) excitation and hole-burning spectra of a merocyanine dye, EtMD, in a supersonic jet, bands due to one of the four possible isomers were observed. Only lower-frequency vibronic bands were observed in the LIF-excitation spectra, while broad and deep dips were observed in the higher energy region of the hole-burning spectra where no LIF bands were observed. The LIF bands were found to consist of two transition systems, which are presumably due to the molecules in the ground and low-lying excited vibrational states. Possible relaxation processes of EtMD in the excited electronic state were discussed.  相似文献

It is a common practice to approximate the desorption rate of atoms from crystal surfaces with an expression of the form nueff exp(-DeltaE/kBT), where DeltaE is an activation barrier to desorb and nueff is an effective vibrational frequency approximately 10(12) s(-1). For molecular solids, however, such an approximation can lead to a many orders of magnitude underestimation of vapor pressure and sublimation rates due to neglected contributions from molecular internal degrees of freedom. Here, we develop a simple working formula that yields good estimates for a general molecular (or atomic) solid and illustrate the approach by computing equilibrium vapor pressure of three different molecular solids and an atomic solid, as well as the desorption rate of a foreign (inhibitor) molecule from the surface of a molecular solid.  相似文献

The local single particle momentum is proposed as a localized‐electrons detector (LED) that provides a direct three‐dimensional representation of bonding interactions in molecules. It is given exclusively in terms of the electron density and its gradient. We show that the graphical representation of bonding interactions given by LED is consistent with the local curvatures of the electron density as given by the eigenvalues of the Hessian matrix, according to a local symmetry classification of the critical points here introduced. LED consistently complements the topological analysis of the electron density given by the quantum theory of atoms in molecules, by providing a graphical representation of the symmetry of the bonding interactions in molecular systems. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report an examination algorithm of stability of molecular aggregates based on the estimation of rigidity of intermolecular contacts in a crystal structure. The algorithm includes the intermolecular interaction energy calculation (in the atom-atom potential approximation) of a pair of molecules selected in the crystal structure. Further, the energy is minimized using a least-squares technique by varying the position and orientation of one of the molecules. The contact rigidity is quantitatively assessed by the minimized rms difference between the positions of the atoms in the original and optimized structures (Zorkii’s criterion). Every rigid contact revealed in the structure determines finite or infinite stable agglomerates. The paper presents the results of testing the computer program based on this algorithm with a number of real crystal structures previously determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, and also the examples of the most common stable molecular agglomerates found with the aid of the program.  相似文献

This paper reports synthesis, characterization and structural optimization of amino-thienyl-dioxocyano-pyridine (ATOP) chromophores toward a multifunctional amorphous material with unprecedented photorefractive performance. The structural (dynamic NMR, XRD) and electronic (UV/vis, electrooptical absorption, Kerr effect measurements) characterization of the ATOP chromophore revealed a cyanine-type pi-conjugated system with an intense and narrow absorption band (epsilon(max) = 140 000 L mol(-)(1) cm(-)(1)), high polarizability anisotropy (deltaalpha(0) = 55 x 10(-)(40) C V(-)(1) m(2)), and a large dipole moment (13 D). This combination of molecular electronic properties is a prerequisite for strong electrooptical response in photorefractive materials with low glass-transition temperature (T(g)). Other important materials-related properties such as compatibility with the photoconducting poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) host matrix, low melting point, low T(g), and film-forming capabilities were optimized by variation of four different alkyl substituents attached to the ATOP core. A morphologically stable PVK-based composite containing 40 wt % of ATOP-3 showed an excellent photorefractive response characterized by a refractive index modulation of Deltan approximately 0.007 and a gain coefficient of Gamma approximately 180 cm(-)(1) at a moderate electrical field strength of E = 35 V microm(-)(1). Even larger effects were observed with thin amorphous films consisting of the pure glass-forming dye ATOP-4 (T(g) = 16 degrees C) and 1 wt % of the photosensitizer 2,4,7-trinitro-9-fluorenylidene-malononitrile (TNFM). This material showed complete internal diffraction at a field strength of only E = 10 V microm(-)(1) and Deltan reached 0.01 at only E = 22 V microm(-)(1) without addition of any specific photoconductor.  相似文献
