Evidence is presented that \(\bar p\) p annihilation proceeds via the formation of two jets, with average transverse momentum of the order of the nucleon mass. The implications of this behaviour is linked to the measured cross sections and multiplicities, and explanations for it have been sought in the underlying gluon and quark constituents of the \(\bar p\) p system. The confrontation of the suggested constituent mechanisms and experimental data lead to the concept that charm meson production may play a significant role in the \(\bar p\) p experiments at the highest available energies.  相似文献

We study the production of charmed mesons (D) and baryons (?? c ) in antiproton-proton ${(\bar{p}p)}$ annihilation close to their respective production thresholds. The elementary charm production process is described by either baryon/meson exchange or by quark/gluon dynamics. Effects of the interactions in the initial and final states are taken into account rigorously. The calculations are performed in close analogy to our earlier study on ${\bar{p}p \to \bar{\Lambda} \Lambda}$ and ${\bar{p} p \to \bar{K} K}$ by connecting the processes via SU(4) flavor symmetry. Our predictions for the ${\bar{\Lambda}_c \Lambda_c}$ production cross section are in the order of 1 to 7 mb, i.e. a factor of around 10?C70 smaller than the corresponding cross sections for ${\bar{\Lambda} \Lambda}$ However, they are 100 to 1000 times larger than predictions of other model calculations in the literature. On the other hand, the resulting cross sections for ${\bar{D} D}$ production are found to be in the order of 10?2 ?C 10?1 ??b and they turned out to be comparable to those obtained in other studies.  相似文献

This includes production, structure and weak decay of ??-Hypernuclei, the $\bar K$ nuclear interaction and the possible existence of $\bar K$ bound states in nuclei. New experimental results are presented on inclusive production properties of \(\bar \Sigma ^{ * + } \) (1385) and \(\bar \Sigma ^{ * + } \) (1385) inK + p interactions at 32 GeV/c. The analysis is based on significantly larger statistics than previously available. A comparison is also made of invariantx-distributions ofK 0/ \(\bar K^0 \) , \(\bar \Lambda \) and \(\bar \Xi ^ + \) and of \(\bar \Sigma ^{ * \pm } \) (1385) andK *+(892). These spectra exhibit regularities expected from the quark-recombination picture when it is assumed that the strange mesons and antibaryons are produced off the strange \(\bar s\) -valence-quark in the incidentK + meson. Transverse momentum distributions are also presented forK *+(892) and \(\bar \Sigma ^{ * \pm } \) (1385) and found to be very similar. The results on strange antibaryon average multiplicities disagree strongly with a recent version of the additive quark model.  相似文献

A study of bound states of the fourth-generation quarks in the range of 500?C700 GeV is presented, where the binding energies are expected to be mainly of Yukawa origin, with QCD subdominant. Near degeneracy of their masses exhibits a new ??isospin??. The production of a colour-octet, isosinglet vector meson via $q\bar q \to \omega_8$ is the most interesting. Its leading decay modes are $\pi_8^\pm W^\mp$ , $\pi_8^0Z^0$ , and constituent quark decay, with $q\bar q$ and $t\bar t'$ and $b\bar b'$ subdominant. The colour octet, isovector pseudoscalar ?? 8 meson decays via constituent quark decay, or to Wg. This work calls for more detailed study of fourth-generation phenomena at LHC.  相似文献

Charmonium \(c\bar c\) and bottomonium \(b\bar b\) are investigated in the framework of a constituent quark model. A scalar confining and a one-gluon exchange (OGE) potential are used in a nonrelativistic reduction to order (p/m)2. Therefore the model includes spin dependent as well as spin independent terms. Their influence on the meson mass spectra and decay widths is analysed. We find that the experimental spectra can be reproduced by using a full model as well as by using a reduced version neglecting the spin independent terms. For both versions we calculate leptonic and radiative decay widths including relativistic corrections for the current operators. We find that for leptonic decays inclusion of all terms of the OGE potential gives better results than the non-relativistic formulas. For radiative transitions relativistic corrections are important.  相似文献

We calculate the polarization of the final state gluon in the processes thought to dominate large transverse momentum quarkonium production atep colliders ( \((\gamma g \to g^3 S_1 (Q\bar Q))\) ) and at hadron colliders \((gg \to g^3 S_1 (Q\bar Q), gg \to g^3 P_J (Q\bar Q) (J = 0,1,2))\) . We present a study of \(B\bar B\) meson pair production inπ ? interactions at 140, 194 and 286 GeV incident pion energy. At 286 GeV, where we have the best statistics, we find a model-dependent \(B\bar B\) production cross-section \(\sigma _{BB} = 14_{ - 6}^{ + 7} nb/nucleon\) .  相似文献

Based on the standard model with two Higgs-doublets, we study physics of ultraheavy quarkonia which are composed of superheavy (such as 4-th generation) quarks. Owing to the strong Higgs-boson exchange force over the gluon exchange force, the situation of the mass levels of such quarkonia becomes drastically different from the ordinary qaurkonia like \(c\bar c\) or \(b\bar b\) . The hyperfine splitting becomes larger than the fine splitting. The production rate of such quarkonia increases largely in multi-TeV colliders. Feasibility for observing such quarkonia is discussed.  相似文献

With experimental data of ${\bar p}$ annihilation at rest on nuclei of 4He, collected by the Obelix spectrometer (LEAR, CERN), we have studied a number of reactions with 4 and 5 charged particles in the final state, distinguishing the annihilations on more than one nucleon, and with strangeness production. The main results of our observations are: (a) a higher (up to 20 times) strangeness production in 4He than in H; (b) the evidence of a possible signature of a $\overline{K}pp$ ( $\overline{K} ppn$ ) bound state; (c) a measurement of a double strangeness production (2K +) and a hint for some production yields of double-strange bound systems like 2K ?2n; (d) a signal compatible with the baryonic $\Theta^+(1530)$ resonance, interpreted as a pentaquark system.  相似文献

Approximating the long-distance gluon dynamics ofSU(3)colour by colour-dielectric block-spin variables, we obtain an effective QCD theory of a scalar colour-dielectric field and a massive colour-bleached gluon field coupled to light quarks. The massive vector field produces a strong attraction betweenq \(\bar q\) pairs, which leads toq \(\bar q\) condensation when the colour-dielectric field becomes small. We calculate \(\left\langle {\bar \psi \psi } \right\rangle\) and the pion decay constantf n as a function of the dielectric field expectation value, by evaluating the fermion determinant in a derivative expansion, and integrating out the bosonic variables. We find that the effective quark-gluon coupling,α s eff , including quark effects, is large on the surface of bags, where \(\left\langle {\bar \psi \psi } \right\rangle\) ±0, but decreases inside hadronic bags, where | \(\left\langle {\bar \psi \psi } \right\rangle\) | is decreasing.  相似文献

We present cross sections for heavy flavour production through photon gluon fusion in electron proton collisions at HERA energy. The electron photon vertex is taken into account explicitly, and theQ 2 of the exchanged photon ranges from nearly zero (almost real photon) to the kinematically allowed maximum. In our approach the scale is set by the mass of the produced quarks. Our formalism is also applicable to the production of light quarks as long as the invariant mass of the pair is sufficiently high, so we also give cross sections for \(u\bar u,d\bar d\) and \(s\bar s\) production.  相似文献

We review and update our results for $K\rightarrow \pi \pi $ decays and $K^0$ $\bar{K}^0$ mixing obtained by us in the 1980s within an analytic approximate approach based on the dual representation of QCD as a theory of weakly interacting mesons for large $N$ , where $N$ is the number of colors. In our analytic approach the Standard Model dynamics behind the enhancement of $\hbox {Re}A_0$ and suppression of $\hbox {Re}A_2$ , the so-called $\Delta I=1/2$ rule for $K\rightarrow \pi \pi $ decays, has a simple structure: the usual octet enhancement through the long but slow quark–gluon renormalization group evolution down to the scales $\mathcal{O}(1\, {\hbox { GeV}})$ is continued as a short but fast meson evolution down to zero momentum scales at which the factorization of hadronic matrix elements is at work. The inclusion of lowest-lying vector meson contributions in addition to the pseudoscalar ones and of Wilson coefficients in a momentum scheme improves significantly the matching between quark–gluon and meson evolutions. In particular, the anomalous dimension matrix governing the meson evolution exhibits the structure of the known anomalous dimension matrix in the quark–gluon evolution. While this physical picture did not yet emerge from lattice simulations, the recent results on $\hbox {Re}A_2$ and $\hbox {Re}A_0$ from the RBC-UKQCD collaboration give support for its correctness. In particular, the signs of the two main contractions found numerically by these authors follow uniquely from our analytic approach. Though the current–current operators dominate the $\Delta I=1/2$ rule, working with matching scales $\mathcal{O}(1 \, {\hbox { GeV}})$ we find that the presence of QCD-penguin operator $Q_6$ is required to obtain satisfactory result for $\hbox {Re}A_0$ . At NLO in $1/N$ we obtain $R=\hbox {Re}A_0/\hbox {Re}A_2= 16.0\pm 1.5$ which amounts to an order of magnitude enhancement over the strict large $N$ limit value $\sqrt{2}$ . We also update our results for the parameter $\hat{B}_K$ , finding $\hat{B}_K=0.73\pm 0.02$ . The smallness of $1/N$ corrections to the large $N$ value $\hat{B}_K=3/4$ results within our approach from an approximate cancelation between pseudoscalar and vector meson one-loop contributions. We also summarize the status of $\Delta M_K$ in this approach.  相似文献

Tensor meson dominance combined with vector meson dominance, QCD-potentials and the experimental leptonic widths of Γ and Γ′ predicts $$\Gamma _{\Upsilon '\left( {10.01} \right) \to \gamma 2^{ + + } \left( {\bar bb} \right)} = 2.8keV$$ and $$\Gamma _{2^{ + + } \left( {\bar bb} \right) \to \gamma \Upsilon \left( {9.46} \right)} = 134keV.$$ The angular distributions of the γ and the jetsj resulting from the decays $$e^ + e^ - \to \Upsilon '\left( {10.01} \right) \to \gamma 2^{ + + } \left( {\bar bb} \right) \to \gamma gg \to \gamma jj$$ and $$e^ + e^ - \to \Upsilon '\left( {10.01} \right) \to \gamma 2^{ + + } \left( {\bar bb} \right) \to \gamma \bar qq \to \gamma jj$$ with massless vector gluonsg, (coupled gauge invariantly) and quarksq are uniquely determined in TMD. The result for the first process agrees with that of perturbative QCD. No perturbative QCD-prediction for the latter is known.  相似文献

We show that inclusive ψ hadroproduction cross sections andx F -distributions are quantitatively consistent with calculations based on the lowest order \(q\bar q \to c\bar c\) andgg \(c\bar c\) QCD subprocesses using a duality ansatz. Data in the πN, KN, NN and \(\bar NN\) channels are considered. They provide determinations of the gluon distributions within the nucleon, the pion, and the kaon at the ψ mass scale. AvailableNN→ΥX data aty=0 are consistent with the same model, using gluon distributions appropriate to the Υ mass: predictions ofx F -distributions are made.  相似文献

Considering the proton either as a three-quark state with its wave function fulfilling QCD sum rules or as a quark-diquark state with wave function parametrizations that are shown to fitG M P , we study the possibility of discriminating between these two competing pictures by comparing their respective predictions for \(J/\Psi \to p\bar p\gamma \) and \(\Upsilon (1S) \to p\bar p\gamma \) decays. ForJ/Ψ decay, thep \(\bar p\) invariantmass distributions derived from either model are found to be of about the same magnitude, but neither of them is able by itself to reproduce present-day data. Differences between the two pictures may eventually show up in the case of Υ(1S) decay, but the predicted counting rates are small. We also consider some other possible production mechanisms for \(p\bar p\gamma \) final states.  相似文献

A search for narrow Θ+(1540), a candidate for a pentaquark baryon with positive strangeness, has been performed in an exclusive proton-induced reaction $p + C(N) \to \Theta ^ + \bar \kappa ^0 + C(N)$ on carbon nuclei or quasifree nucleons at $E_{beam} = 70GeV(\sqrt s = 11.5GeV)$ studying nK +, pK S 0 , and pK L 0 decay channels of Θ+(1540) in four different final states of the $\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 $ system. In order to assess the quality of the identification of the final states with neutron or K L 0 , we reconstructed Λ(1520) → nK S 0 and ?K L 0 K S 0 decays in the calibration reactions p + C(N) → Λ (1520)K ++C(N) and p+C(N) → p?+C(N). We found no evidence for a narrow pentaquark peak in any of the studied final states and decay channels. Assuming that the production characteristics of the $\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 $ system are not drastically different from those of the Λ(1520)K + and p? systems, we established upper limits on the cross-section ratios $\sigma (\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 )/\sigma (\Lambda (1520)K^ + ) < 0.02$ and $\sigma (\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 )/\sigma (p\phi ) < 0.15$ at 90% C.L. and a preliminary upper limit for the forward-hemisphere cross section $\sigma (\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 )$ nb/nucleon.  相似文献

The presence of a narrow peak in the $ \Lambda$ p invariant-mass distribution observed in the $ \bar{{p}}$ annihilation reaction at rest $\ensuremath \bar{p} {}^4\mathrm{He}\rightarrow p\pi^-p\pi^+\pi^-n X$ is discussed again through an analysis procedure which improves the ratio signal/background in comparison with the previous analysis. The peak is centred at 2223.2±3.2stat±1.2syst MeV and has a statistical significance of 4.7 $ \sigma$ , values compatible with those published previously. If interpreted as the result of the decay into $ \Lambda$ p of a $\ensuremath { }_{\bar{K}}{}^2\mathrm{H}$ bound system, the corresponding binding energy should be B = - 151.0±3.2stat±1.2syst MeV and the width $ \Gamma_{{FWHM}}^{}$ < 33.9±6.2 MeV. The production rate has a lower limit of 1.2 10-4. Data on the $ \bar{{p}}$ annihilation reaction at rest $ \bar{{p}}$ 4He $ \rightarrow$ p $ \pi^{-}_{}$ p $ \pi^{-}_{}$ p s X , analyzed for the first time, lead to a result in qualitative agreement with the previous one.  相似文献
