We use Klee’s Dehn–Sommerville relations and other results on face numbers of homology manifolds without boundary to (i) prove Kalai’s conjecture providing lower bounds on the f-vectors of an even-dimensional manifold with all but the middle Betti number vanishing, (ii) verify Kühnel’s conjecture that gives an upper bound on the middle Betti number of a 2k-dimensional manifold in terms of k and the number of vertices, and (iii) partially prove Kühnel’s conjecture providing upper bounds on other Betti numbers of odd- and even-dimensional manifolds. For manifolds with boundary, we derive an extension of Klee’s Dehn–Sommerville relations and strengthen Kalai’s result on the number of their edges. I. We solve the twisted conjugacy problem on Thompson’s group F. We also exhibit orbit undecidable subgroups of Aut(F), and give a proof that Aut(F) and Aut+(F) are orbit decidable provided a certain conjecture on Thompson’s group T is true. By using general criteria introduced by Bogopolski, Martino and Ventura in [5], we construct a family of free extensions of F where the conjugacy problem is unsolvable. As a byproduct of our techniques, we give a new proof of a result of Bleak–Fel’shtyn–Gonçalves in [4] showing that F has property R, and which can be extended to show that Thompson’s group T also has property R.  相似文献

We use a q-series identity by Ramanujan to give a combinatorial interpretation of Ramanujan’s tau function which involves t-cores and a new class of partitions which we call (m,k)-capsids. The same method can be applied in conjunction with other related identities yielding alternative combinatorial interpretations of the tau function.  相似文献

In this article we discuss some aspects of operational Tau Method on delay differential equations and then we apply this method on the differential delay equation defined byw(u) = 1/u for 1 ≤u ≤ 2 and(uw(u))′ = w(u-1) foru ≥ 2, which was introduced by Buchstab. As Khajah et al.[l] applied the Recursive Tau Method on this problem, they had to apply that Method under theMathematica software to get reasonable accuracy. We present very good results obtained just by applying the Operational Tau Method using a Fortran code. The results show that we can obtain as much accuracy as is allowed by the Fortran compiler and the machine-limitations. The easy applications and reported results concerning the Operational Tau are again confirming the numerical capabilities of this Method to handle problems in different applications.  相似文献

Based on constructing the equations of motion for the two-time Green’s functions, we discuss calculating the dynamical spin susceptibility and correlation functions in the Heisenberg model. Using a Mori-type projection, we derive an exact Dyson equation with the self-energy operator in the form of a multiparticle Green’s function. Calculating the self-energy operator in the mode-coupling approximation in the ferromagnetic phase, we reproduce the results of the temperature diagram technique, including the correct formula for low-temperature magnetization. We also consider calculating the spin fluctuation spectrum in the paramagnetic phase in the framework of the method of equations of motion for the relaxation function.  相似文献

Given a homomorphically closed root class K of groups, we find a criterion for a Baumslag–Solitar group to be a residually K-group. In this paper a three parameter family of planar differential systems with homogeneous nonlinearities of arbitrary odd degree is studied. This family is an extension to higher degree of Loud?s systems. The origin is a nondegenerate center for all values of the parameter and we are interested in the qualitative properties of its period function. We study the bifurcation diagram of this function focusing our attention on the bifurcations occurring at the polycycle that bounds the period annulus of the center. Moreover we determine some regions in the parameter space for which the corresponding period function is monotonous or it has at least one critical period, giving also its character (maximum or minimum). Finally we propose a complete conjectural bifurcation diagram of the period function of these generalized Loud?s centers.  相似文献

We precisely evaluate the Bellman function of two variables of the dyadic maximal operator related to Kolmogorov’s inequality, thus giving an alternative proof of the results in [3]. Additionally, we characterize the sequences of functions that are extremal for this Bellman function. More precisely, we prove that they behave approximately like eigenfunctions of the dyadic maximal operator, for a specific eigenvalue.  相似文献
