We consider simple closed curves in a Minkowski space. We give bounds of the total Minkowski curvature of the curve in terms of the total Euclidean curvature and of normal curvatures on the indicatrix (supposed to be a central symmetric hypersurface) of the Minkowski norm. Corollaries of this result provide analogues to Fenchel and Fary-Milnor theorems. We also give an upper bound of the Minkowski length of a simple closed curve contained in a Minkowski ball of radius R, in terms of the total Minkowski curvature and of normal curvatures on the indicatrix. Whenever the Minkowski space is Euclidean our results reduce to the classical ones.  相似文献

Monica Klein classified Minkowski planes with respect to linearly transitive subgroups of Minkowski homotheties. She obtained 23 possible types. In this paper we investigate Minkowski planes with respect to groups of automorphism of certain Klein types 12 and higher. We show that types 12 and 14 can only occur in finite miquelian Minkowski planes of order 3 or 5, and we provide examples for such groups. Furthermore, we prove that types 13 and 18 in finite Minkowski planes can only occur in miquelian planes.  相似文献

In this paper, a dual Orlicz–Brunn–Minkowski theory is presented. An Orlicz radial sum and dual Orlicz mixed volumes are introduced. The dual Orlicz–Minkowski inequality and the dual Orlicz–Brunn–Minkowski inequality are established. The variational formula for the volume with respect to the Orlicz radial sum is proved. The equivalence between the dual Orlicz–Minkowski inequality and the dual Orlicz–Brunn–Minkowski inequality is demonstrated. Minkowski Geometric Algebra of Complex Sets   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A geometric algebra of point sets in the complex plane is proposed, based on two fundamental operations: Minkowski sums and products. Although the (vector) Minkowski sum is widely known, the Minkowski product of two-dimensional sets (induced by the multiplication rule for complex numbers) has not previously attracted much attention. Many interesting applications, interpretations, and connections arise from the geometric algebra based on these operations. Minkowski products with lines and circles are intimately related to problems of wavefront reflection or refraction in geometrical optics. The Minkowski algebra is also the natural extension, to complex numbers, of interval-arithmetic methods for monitoring propagation of errors or uncertainties in real-number computations. The Minkowski sums and products offer basic 'shape operators' for applications such as computer-aided design and mathematical morphology, and may also prove useful in other contexts where complex variables play a fundamental role – Fourier analysis, conformal mapping, stability of control systems, etc.  相似文献

The fundamental ideas of Minkowski geometries are presented. Learning about Minkowski geometries can sharpen our students’ understanding of concepts such as distance measurement. Many of its ideas are important and accessible to undergraduate students. Following a brief overview, distance and orthogonality in Minkowski geometries are thoroughly discussed and many illustrative examples and applications are supplied. Suggestions for further study of these geometries are given. Indeed, Minkowski geometries are an excellent source of topics for undergraduate research and independent study.  相似文献

We validate the conjectured logarithmic Minkowski inequality, and thus the equivalent logarithmic Brunn–Minkowski inequality, in some particular cases and we prove some variants of the logarithmic Minkowski inequality for general convex bodies without the symmetry assumption. The Minkowski set or the central symmetry set (CSS) of a smooth curve Γ on the affine plane is the envelope of chords connecting pairs of points such that the tangents to Γ at them are parallel. Singularities of CSS are of interest, in particular, for applications (for example, in computer graphics). A generalization of the Minkowski set is considered in the paper, namely, the projective Minkowski set with respect to a line on the plane; in the case of general position, we describe its singularities and the bifurcation set of lines corresponding to lines defining the projective Minkowski set having singularities being more degenerate than those of the Minkowski set for a generic line.  相似文献

We investigate (local) Minkowski measurability of ${\mathcal {C}^{1+\alpha}}$ images of self-similar sets. We show that (local) Minkowski measurability of a self-similar set K implies (local) Minkowski measurability of its image F and provide an explicit formula for the (local) Minkowski content of F in this case. A counterexample is presented which shows that the converse is not necessarily true. That is, F can be Minkowski measurable although K is not. However, we obtain that an average version of the (local) Minkowski content of both K and F always exists and also provide an explicit formula for the relation between the (local) average Minkowski contents of K and F.  相似文献

Let (X, B) be a Minkowski space (finite-dimensional Banach space) with unit ball B. Using a Minkowski definition of unit normal to a hypersurface, a Minkowski analogue of Euclidean divergence is defined. We show that the divergence theorem holds. Using the Minkowski divergence, a Minkowski Laplacian is defined. We prove that this Laplacian is a second-order, constant-coefficient, elliptic, differential operator. Quite recently, an Orlicz Minkowski problem has been posed and the existence part of this problem for even measures has been presented. In this paper, the existence part of the Orlicz Minkowski problem for polytopes is demonstrated.
