EP Banach space operators and EP Banach algebra elements are characterized using different kinds of factorizations. The results obtained generalize well-known characterizations of EP matrices, EP Hilbert space operators and EP C?-algebra elements. We show that the index defined via a trace for Fredholm elements in a Banach algebra has the property that an index zero Fredholm element can be decomposed as the sum of an invertible element and an element in the socle. We identify the set of index zero Fredholm elements as an upper semiregularity with the Jacobson property. The Weyl spectrum is then characterized in terms of the index.  相似文献

As far as we know, the exterior product with any norm has not been studied for Banach spaces. Especially, no studies have been done on Grassmann manifolds in Banach spaces. We think it is important to study these because simple m-vectors can be thought of as m-dimensional subspaces scaled in some way according to our work. We hope Banach space norms of simple m-vectors will yield metric information about their associated subspaces. In fact, this is the case with m-uniform convexity and m-uniform rotundity which are associated with area (in Banach spaces).  相似文献

The main concern of this note is the Moore-Penrose inverse in the context of Banach spaces and algebras. Generalizing earlier results about the set of idempotents in a Banach algebra, or of self-adjoint idempotents in a C*-algebra, we announce constructions of nice connecting paths in the connected components of the set of elements in a Banach algebra, or of self-adjoint elements in a C*-algebra, that satisfy a given polynomial equation, without multiple roots. In particular, we prove that in the Banach algebra case every such non-central element lies on a complex line, all of whose points satisfy the given equation. We introduce the Stiefel bundle associated to a given Banachable algebra and study the properties of this analytic principal fiber bundle over the Grassmannian of equivalence classes of idempotents in the algebra. Our main application concerns the bounded linear operators of a Banach space.
