The paper studies unsteady Navier–Stokes equations with two space variables. It shows that the non-linear fourth-order equation for the stream function with three independent variables admits functional separable solutions described by a system of three partial differential equations with two independent variables. The system is found to have a number of exact solutions, which generate new classes of exact solutions to the Navier–Stokes equations. All these solutions involve two or more arbitrary functions of a single argument as well as a few free parameters. Many of the solutions are expressed in terms of elementary functions, provided that the arbitrary functions are also elementary; such solutions, having relatively simple form and presenting significant arbitrariness, can be especially useful for solving certain model problems and testing numerical and approximate analytical hydrodynamic methods. The paper uses the obtained results to describe some model unsteady flows of viscous incompressible fluids, including flows through a strip with permeable walls, flows through a strip with extrusion at the boundaries, flows onto a shrinking plane, and others. Some blow-up modes, which correspond to singular solutions, are discussed.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to perform a complete symmetry classification of a generalized Emden-Fowler equation. The various forms of this equation are extensively studied in the literature and they have applications in astrophysical and physiological phenomena. The classical approach of group classification and the procedure based upon the Lie algebras of low dimension are employed for classification. Exact solutions of the invariant equations are derived.  相似文献

Stagnation regions exist on all blunt bodies moving in a viscous fluid. In certain stagnation flow problems, the Navier–Stokes equations reduce to nonlinear ordinary differential equations through a similarity transform. This paper reviews the existing steady similarity stagnation flow solutions and discusses a new area of research, stagnation flow with slip.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical study of the partially invariant solution of the Navier–Stokes equations for the plane case which describes unsteady flow in a layer bounded by a straight solid wall and a free boundary parallel to it. It is found that for different initial flow velocities, a steady state can be established with a decrease or an increase in the initial layer thickness or the layer thickness can be increased infinitely due to fluid inflow from infinity.  相似文献

A new HLLC (Harten-Lax-van leer contact) approximate Riemann solver with the preconditioning technique based on the pseudo-compressibility formulation for numerical simulation of the incompressible viscous flows has been proposed, which follows the HLLC Riemann solver (Harten, Lax and van Leer solver with contact resolution modified by Toro) for the compressible flow system. In the authors' previous work, the preconditioned Roe's Riemann solver is applied to the finite difference discretisation of the inviscid flux for incompressible flows. Although the Roe's Riemann solver is found to be an accurate and robust scheme in various numerical computations, the HLLC Riemann solver is more suitable for the pseudo-compressible Navier--Stokes equations, in which the inviscid flux vector is a non-homogeneous function of degree one of the flow field vector, and however the Roe's solver is restricted to the homogeneous systems. Numerical investigations have been performed in order to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the present procedure in both two- and three-dimensional cases. The present results are found to be in good agreement with the exact solutions, existing numerical results and experimental data.  相似文献

We prove the existence and uniqueness of periodic motions to Stokes and Navier–Stokes flows around a rotating obstacle \({D \subset \mathbb{R}^3}\) with the complement \({\Omega = \mathbb{R}^3 \backslash D}\) being an exterior domain. In our strategy, we show the C b -regularity in time for the mild solutions to linearized equations in the Lorentz space \({L^{3,\infty}(\Omega)}\) (known as weak-L 3 spaces) and prove a Massera-typed Theorem on the existence and uniqueness of periodic mild solutions to the linearized equations in weak-L 3 spaces. We then use the obtained results for such equations and the fixed point argument to prove such results for Navier–Stokes equations around a rotating obstacle. We also show the stability of such periodic solutions.  相似文献

Let be a body moving by prescribed rigid motion in a Navier–Stokes liquid that fills the whole space and is subject to given boundary conditions and body force. Under the assumptions that, with respect to a frame , attached to , these data are time independent, and that their magnitude is not “too large”, we show the existence of one and only one corresponding steady motion of , with respect to , such that the velocity field, at the generic point x in space, decays like |x|−1. These solutions are “physically reasonable” in the sense of FINN [10]. In particular, they are unique and satisfy the energy equation. Among other things, this result is relevant in engineering applications involving orientation of particles in viscous liquid [14].  相似文献

This paper is devoted to a theoretical analysis of counter-current gas–liquid wavy film flow between vertical plates. We consider two-dimensional nonlinear waves on the interface over a wide variation of parameters. We use the Navier–Stokes equations in their full statement to describe the liquid phase hydrodynamics. For the gas phase equations, we use the Benjamin-Miles approach where the liquid phase is a small disturbance for the turbulent gas flow. We find a region of the superficial velocity where we have two solutions at one set of the problem parameters and where the flooding takes place. We calculate the flooding dependences on the gas/liquid physical properties, on the liquid Reynolds number and on the distance between the plates. These computations allow us to present the correlation for the onset of flooding that based on the fundamental equations and principles.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper presents two global convergence strategies for a spectral-element, space-time discretisation of the Navier–Stokes equations. The first employs a hierarchical temporal mesh subdivision and polynomial order reduction to approximate the high-order solution. The second generalises Pseudo-Transient Continuation for steady problems to a space-time system.  相似文献

The effect of curved-boundary representation on the physics of the separated flow over a NACA 65(1)-412 airfoil is thoroughly investigated. A method is presented to approximate curved boundaries with a high-order discontinuous-Galerkin spectral element method for the solution of the Navier–Stokes equations. Multiblock quadrilateral element meshes are constructed with the grid generation software GridPro. The boundary of a NACA 65(1)-412 airfoil, defined by a cubic natural spline, is piecewise-approximated by isoparametric polynomial interpolants that represent the edges of boundary-fitted elements. Direct numerical simulation of the airfoil is performed on a coarse mesh and fine mesh with polynomial orders ranging from four to twelve. The accuracy of the curve fitting is investigated by comparing the flows computed on curved-sided meshes with those given by straight-sided meshes. Straight-sided meshes yield irregular wakes, whereas curved-sided meshes produce a regular Karman street wake. Straight-sided meshes also produce lower lift and higher viscous drag as compared with curved-sided meshes. When the mesh is refined by reducing the sizes of the elements, the lift decrease and viscous drag increase are less pronounced. The differences in the aerodynamic performance between the straight-sided meshes and the curved-sided meshes are concluded to be the result of artificial surface roughness introduced by the piecewise-linear boundary approximation provided by the straight-sided meshes.  相似文献

The paper extends a stabilized fictitious domain finite element method initially developed for the Stokes problem to the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations coupled with a moving solid. This method presents the advantage to predict an optimal approximation of the normal stress tensor at the interface. The dynamics of the solid is governed by Newton׳s laws and the interface between the fluid and the structure is materialized by a level-set which cuts the elements of the mesh. An algorithm is proposed in order to treat the time evolution of the geometry and numerical results are presented on a classical benchmark of the motion of a disk falling in a channel.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to a theoretical analysis of a counter-current gas-liquid flow between two inclined plates. We linearized the Navier–Stokes equations and carried out a stability analysis of the basic steady-state solution over a wide variation of the liquid Reynolds number and the gas superficial velocity. As a result, we found two modes of the unstable disturbances and computed the wavelength and phase velocity of their neutral disturbances varying the liquid and gas Reynolds number. The first mode is a “surface mode” that corresponds to the Kapitza's waves at small values of the gas superficial velocity. We found that the dependence of the neutral disturbance wavelength on the liquid Reynolds number strongly depends on the gas superficial velocity, the distance between the plates and the channel inclination angle for this mode. The second mode of the unstable disturbances corresponds to the transition to a turbulent flow in the gas phase and there is a critical value of the gas Reynolds number for this mode. We obtained that this critical Reynolds number weakly depends on both the channel inclination angle, the distance between the plates and the liquid flow parameters for the conditions considered in the paper. Despite a thorough search, we did not find the unstable modes that may correspond to the instability in frame of the viscous (or inviscid) Kelvin–Helmholtz heuristic analysis.  相似文献

We study the initial-boundary value problem for the Stokes equations with Robin boundary conditions in the half-space It is proved that the associated Stokes operator is sectorial and admits a bounded H-calculus on As an application we prove also a local existence result for the nonlinear initial value problem of the Navier–Stokes equations with Robin boundary conditions.  相似文献

A novel methodology is proposed for the numerical computation of pressure-driven gravity-stratified flows along channels comprising two immiscible phases. The parabolized Navier–Stokes equations are combined with the level set approach, resulting into a downstream-marching problem in which the solution is computed at each cross-section based on upstream information only. A main difficulty in the implementation of the approach for internal flows is the conservation of the mass flow rates, which is addressed by extending to two-phase flows the method proposed by Patankar and Spalding (1972) and Raythby and Schneider (1979), and by adding an explicit forcing term in the equation for the advection of the level function. The combination of high-order finite differences and sparse storage and algebra used here allows a fully-coupled integration of the parabolized equations, as opposed to the more classical segregated approaches. This enables a very efficient calculation of the complete downstream-developing flow field.  相似文献

We prove that the linearization of the hydrostatic Euler equations at certain parallel shear flows is ill-posed. The result also extends to the hydrostatic Navier–Stokes equations with a small viscosity.  相似文献

In the present paper, the longitudinal dynamic flight stability properties of two model insects are predicted by an approximate theory and computed by numerical sim- ulation. The theory is based on the averaged model (which assumes that the frequency of wingbeat is sufficiently higher than that of the body motion, so that the flapping wings' degrees of freedom relative to the body can be dropped and the wings can be replaced by wingbeat-cycle-average forces and moments); the simulation solves the complete equations of motion coupled with the Navier-Stokes equations. Comparison between the theory and the simulation provides a test to the validity of the assumptions in the theory. One of the insects is a model dronefly which has relatively high wingbeat frequency (164 Hz) and the other is a model hawkmoth which has relatively low wingbeat frequency (26 Hz). The results show that the averaged model is valid for the hawkmoth as well as for the dronefly. Since the wingbeat frequency of the hawkmoth is relatively low (the characteristic times of the natural modes of motion of the body divided by wingbeat period are relatively large) compared with many other insects, that the theory based on the averaged model is valid for the hawkmoth means that it could be valid for many insects.  相似文献

We propose a new outflow boundary condition, a unilateral condition of Signorini’s type, for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. The condition is a generalization of the standard free-traction condition. Its variational formulation is given by a variational inequality. We also consider a penalty approximation, a kind of the Robin condition, to deduce a suitable formulation for numerical computations. Under those conditions, we can obtain energy inequalities that are key features for numerical computations. The main contribution of this paper is to establish the well-posedness of the Navier–Stokes equations under those boundary conditions. Particularly, we prove the unique existence of strong solutions of Ladyzhenskaya’s class using the standard Galerkin’s method. For the proof of the existence of pressures, however, we offer a new method of analysis.  相似文献

We consider the asymptotic limit for the complete Navier–Stokes–Fourier system as both Mach and Froude numbers tend to zero. The limit is investigated in the context of weak variational solutions on an arbitrary large time interval and for the ill-prepared initial data. The convergence to the Oberbeck–Boussinesq system is shown.   相似文献
