We present in this paper a rigorous error analysis of several projection schemes for the approximation of the unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The error analysis is accomplished by interpreting the respective projection schemes as second-order time discretizations of a perturbed system which approximates the Navier-Stokes equations. Numerical results in agreement with the error analysis are also presented.

Unconditionally stable finite difference schemes for the time approximation of first-order operator-differential systems with self-adjoint operators are constructed. Such systems arise in many applied problems, for example, in connection with nonstationary problems for the system of Stokes (Navier-Stokes) equations. Stability conditions in the corresponding Hilbert spaces for two-level weighted operator-difference schemes are obtained. Additive (splitting) schemes are proposed that involve the solution of simple problems at each time step. The results are used to construct splitting schemes with respect to spatial variables for nonstationary Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible fluid. The capabilities of additive schemes are illustrated using a two-dimensional model problem as an example.  相似文献

The incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, upon spatial discretization, become a system of differential algebraic equations, formally of index2.But due to the special forms of the discrete gradient and disrete divergence, its index can be regarded as 1.Thus,in this paper,a systematic approach following the ODE theory and methods is presented for the construction of high-order time-accurate implicit schemes for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, with projection methods for efficiency of numerical solution. The 3rd order 3-step BDF with componentconsistent pressure-correction projection method is a first attempt in this direction;the related iterative solution of the auxiliary velocyty, the boundary conditions and the stability of the algorithm are discussed. Results of numerical tests on the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with an exact solution are presented, confirming the accureacy, stability and component-consistency of the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate some new properties of the incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations by studying a 3D model for axisymmetric 3D incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations with swirl. The 3D model is derived by reformulating the axisymmetric 3D incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations and then neglecting the convection term of the resulting equations. Some properties of this 3D model are reviewed. Finally, some potential features of the incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations such as the stabilizing effect of the convection are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, the authors consider the zero-viscosity limit of the three dimensional incompressible steady Navier-Stokes equations in a half space R+×R2. The result shows that the solution of three dimensional incompressible steady Navier-Stokes equations converges to the solution of three dimensional incompressible steady Euler equations in Sobolev space as the viscosity coefficient going to zero. The method is based on a new weighted energy estimates and Nash-Moser itera...  相似文献

Two- and multilevel truncated Newton finite element discretizations are presently a very promising approach for approximating the (nonlinear) Navier-Stokes equations describing the equilibrium flow of a viscous, incompressible fluid. Their combination with mesh adaptivity is considered in this article. Specifically, locally calculable a posteriori error estimators are derived, with full mathematical support, for the basic two-level discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

We consider high-order compact (HOC) schemes for quasilinear parabolic partial differential equations to discretise the Black–Scholes PDE for the numerical pricing of European and American options. We show that for the heat equation with smooth initial conditions, the HOC schemes attain clear fourth-order convergence but fail if non-smooth payoff conditions are used. To restore the fourth-order convergence, we use a grid stretching that concentrates grid nodes at the strike price for European options. For an American option, an efficient procedure is also described to compute the option price, Greeks and the optimal exercise curve. Comparisons with a fourth-order non-compact scheme are also done. However, fourth-order convergence is not experienced with this strategy. To improve the convergence rate for American options, we discuss the use of a front-fixing transformation with the HOC scheme. We also show that the HOC scheme with grid stretching along the asset price dimension gives accurate numerical solutions for European options under stochastic volatility.  相似文献

Summary We consider mixed finite element approximations of the stationary, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with slip boundary condition simultaneously approximating the velocity, pressure, and normal stress component. The stability of the schemes is achieved by adding suitable, consistent penalty terms corresponding to the normal stress component and to the pressure. A new method of proving the stability of the discretizations allows, us to obtain optimal error estimates for the velocity, pressure, and normal stress component in natural norms without using duality arguments and without imposing uniformity conditions on the finite element partition. The schemes can easily be implemented into existing finite element codes for the Navier-Stokes equations with standard Dirichlet boundary conditions.  相似文献

In this note, we rigorously justify a singular approximation of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Our approximation combines two classical approximations of the incompressible Euler equations: a standard relaxation approximation, but with a diffusive scaling, and the Euler-Poisson equations in the quasineutral regime.

This paper presents a fourth-order kernel-free boundary integral method for the time-dependent, incompressible Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations defined on irregular bounded domains. By the stream function-vorticity formulation, the incompressible flow equations are interpreted as vorticity evolution equations. Time discretization methods for the evolution equations lead to a modified Helmholtz equation for the vorticity, or alternatively, a modified biharmonic equation for the stream function with two clamped boundary conditions. The resulting fourth-order elliptic boundary value problem is solved by a fourth-order kernel-free boundary integral method, with which integrals in the reformulated boundary integral equation are evaluated by solving corresponding equivalent interface problems, regardless of the exact expression of the involved Green's function. To solve the unsteady Stokes equations, a four-stage composite backward differential formula of the same order accuracy is employed for time integration. For the Navier-Stokes equations, a three-stage third-order semi-implicit Runge-Kutta method is utilized to guarantee the global numerical solution has at least third-order convergence rate. Numerical results for the unsteady Stokes equations and the Navier-Stokes equations are presented to validate efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method.  相似文献

We construct solutions for 2- and 3-D stochastic nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with general multiplicative noise. These equations model the velocity of a mixture of incompressible fluids of varying density, influenced by random external forces that involve feedback; that is, multiplicative noise. Weak solutions for the corresponding deterministic equations were first found by Kazhikhov [A.V. Kazhikhov, Solvability of the initial and boundary-value problem for the equations of motion of an inhomogeneous viscous incompressible fluid, Soviet Phys. Dokl. 19 (6) (1974) 331-332; English translation of the paper in: Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 216 (6) (1974) 1240-1243]. A stochastic version with additive noise was solved by Yashima [H.F. Yashima, Equations de Navier-Stokes stochastiques non homogènes et applications, Thesis, Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, 1992].The methods here extend the Loeb space techniques used to obtain the first general solutions of the stochastic Navier-Stokes equations with multiplicative noise in the homogeneous case [M. Capiński, N.J. Cutland, Stochastic Navier-Stokes equations, Applicandae Math. 25 (1991) 59-85]. The solutions display more regularity in the 2D case. The methods also give a simpler proof of the basic existence result of Kazhikhov.  相似文献

Summary This paper deals with some convergence/stability results concerning two numerical methods for solving the incompressible nonstationary Navier-Stokes equations. The algorithms are of a particular kind in what regards time discretization (more precisely, of the Peaceman-Rachford and the Strang type resp.), and have been obtained by modifying slightly the numerical treatment of the nonlinear terms in other schemes due to Glowinski et al. (1980). We first describe the full discretization of the homogeneous Dirichlet problem using a (general) external approximation of the spatial functional spaces involved (a particular and simple choice of such an approximation is the standardP 2-Lagrange finite element for the velocity field when the fluid is bidimensional). Then we establish and prove convergence and stability and make some comments on the numerical treatment of other (generally nonhomogeneous) boundary conditions. The theoretical results show that the schemes are (at least) conditionally stable and convergent, which justifies the success of Glowinski's methods.  相似文献

When the artificial compressibility method in conjunction with high-order upwind compact finite difference schemes is employed to discretize the steady-state incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, in each pseudo-time step we need to solve a structured system of linear equations approximately by, for example, a Krylov subspace method such as the preconditioned GMRES. In this paper, based on the special structure and concrete property of the linear system we construct a structured preconditioner for its coefficient matrix and estimate eigenvalue bounds of the correspondingly preconditioned matrix. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed preconditioning methods.  相似文献

Equations of motion of a viscous Newtonian fluid are derived, which, in addition to the terms of the Navier-Stokes equations, contain additional terms taking into account the relaxation effect of vorticity on the rate of strain. An independent experimental method for measuring a new parameter involved in the equations is described. As an application of the Navier-Stokes equations in the second approximation, Stokes’ hypothesis is rigorously substantiated. New similarity criteria for incompressible viscous flows are presented. The Poynting effect for viscous incompressible Newtonian fluids is theoretically explained.  相似文献

The MAC discretization scheme for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is interpreted as a covolume approximation to the equations. Using some results from earlier papers dealing with covolume error estimates for div-curl equation systems, and under certain conditions on the data and the solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations, we obtain first-order error estimates for both the vorticity and the pressure.

A relaxation system based on a Lattice-Boltzmann type discrete velocity model is considered in the low Mach number limit. A third order relaxation scheme is developed working uniformly for all ranges of the mean free path and Mach number. In the incompressible Navier-Stokes limit the scheme reduces to an explicit high order finite difference scheme for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations based on nonoscillatory upwind discretization. Numerical results and comparisons with other approaches are presented for several test cases in one and two space dimensions.

In this paper, we study the regularity of weak solution to the incompressible magnetohydrodynamic equations. We obtain some sufficient conditions for regularity of weak solutions to the magnetohydrodynamic equations, which is similar to that of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Moreover, our results demonstrate that the velocity field of the fluid plays a more dominant role than the magnetic field does on the regularity of solution to the magneto-hydrodynamic equations.  相似文献

By reversing the time variable we derive a stochastic representation for backward incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in terms of stochastic Lagrangian paths, which is similar to Constantin and Iyer’s forward formulations in Constantin and Iyer (Comm Pure Appl Math LXI:330–345, 2008). Using this representation, a self-contained proof of local existence of solutions in Sobolev spaces are provided for incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in the whole space. In two dimensions or large viscosity, an alternative proof to the global existence is also given. Moreover, a large deviation estimate for stochastic particle trajectories is presented when the viscosity tends to zero.  相似文献
