A square complex matrix A is said to be EP if A and its conjugate transpose A have the same range. In this paper, we first collect a group of known characterizations of EP matrix, and give some new characterizations of EP matrices. Then, we define weighted-EP matrix, and present a wealth of characterizations for weighted-EP matrix through various rank formulas for matrices and their generalized inverses.  相似文献

In this paper, we provide some characterizations of inverse M-matrices with special zero patterns. In particular, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for k-diagonal matrices and symmetric k-diagonal matrices to be inverse M-matrices. In addition, results for triadic matrices, tridiagonal matrices and symmetric 5-diagonal matrices are presented as corollaries.  相似文献

Six characterizations of the polynomial numerical hull of degree k are established for bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space. It is shown how these characterizations provide a natural distinction between interior and boundary points. One of the characterizations is used to prove that the polynomial numerical hull of any fixed degree k for a Toeplitz matrix whose symbol is piecewise continuous approaches all or most of that of the infinite-dimensional Toeplitz operator, as the matrix size goes to infinity.  相似文献

Several results involving a product of two orthogonal projectors (i.e., Hermitian idempotent matrices) are established by exploring a representation of the product as a partitioned matrix. These results concern, for instance, rank, trace, range, null space, generalized inverses, and spectral properties of the product and its various functions. Particular attention is paid to the conditions equivalent to the requirement that the product of two orthogonal projectors is an orthogonal projector itself, and these characterizations refer to such known classes of matrices as Hermitian, involutory, normal, star-dagger, unitary as well as partial isometries and semi-orthogonal projectors. Moreover, some results dealing with the notions of parallel sum and spectral norm are obtained. The variety of problems considered shows that the approach utilized in the paper provides a powerful tool of wide applicability.  相似文献

This paper investigates the cardinality of a basis and the characterizations of a basis in semilinear space of n-dimensional vectors over zerosumfree semirings. First, it discusses the cardinality of a basis and gives some necessary and sufficient conditions that each basis has the same number of elements. Then it presents some conditions that a set of vectors is a basis and that a set of linearly independent vectors can be extended to a basis. In the end, it shows a necessary and sufficient condition that two semilinear spaces are isomorphic.  相似文献

In this paper, nilpotent subsemigroups in the matrix semigroup over a commutative antiring are discussed. Some basic properties and characterizations for the nilpotent subsemigroups are given, and some equivalent conditions for the matrix semigroup over a commutative antiring to have a maximal nilpotent subsemigroup are obtained. We present three characterizations of strongly definitizable pencils, which generalize the classical results for definite pencils. They are, in particular, stably simultaneously diagonable. Convexity properties of the inverse of positive definite matrices and the Moore-Penrose inverse of nonnegative definite matrices with respect to the partial ordering induced by nonnegative definiteness are studied. For the positive definite case null-space characterizations are derived, and lead naturally to a concept of strong convexity of a matrix function, extending the conventional concept of strict convexity. The positive definite results are shown to allow for a unified analysis of problems in reproducing kernel Hilbert space theory and inequalities involving matrix means. The main results comprise a detailed study of the convexity properties of the Moore-Penrose inverse, providing extensions and generalizations of all the earlier work in this area.  相似文献

We obtain characterizations of those linear operators that preserve zero-term rank on the m×n matrices over antinegative semirings. The paper deals with two closely related questions about the Bergman space of the unit disk. First, we investigate a special class of invariant subspaces of the Bergman space, namely, invariant subspaces induced by certain Hankel operators. We show that such spaces always have the co-dimension 1 or 2 property; and we determine exactly when such a space has the co-dimension 1 property. Second, we introduce the notion of inner spaces in the Bergman space and give several characterizations of when an inner space is maximal.Research supported by the National Science Foundation  相似文献

The notions of focal point and support function are considered for a nondegenerate hypersurfaceM n in affine spaceR n+1 equipped with an equiaffine transversal field. IfM n is locally strictly convex, these two concepts are related via an Index theorem concerning the critical points of the support functions onM n . In this paper operator-valued Q-functions of Krein-Ovcharenko type are introduced. Such functions arise from the extension theory of Hermitian contractive operators A in a Hilbert space ℌ. The definition is related to the investigations of M.G. Krein and I.E. Ovcharenko of the so-called Qμ- and QM-functions. It turns out that their characterizations of such functions hold true only in the matrix valued case. The present paper extends the corresponding properties for wider classes of selfadjoint contractive extensions of A. For this purpose some peculiar but fundamental properties on the behaviour of operator ranges of positive operators will be used. Also proper characterizations for Qμ- and QM-functions in the general operator-valued case are given. Shorted operators and parallel sums of positive operators will be needed to give a geometric understanding of the function-theoretic properties of the corresponding Q-functions.  相似文献

Azéma associated with an honest time L the supermartingale and established some of its important properties. This supermartingale plays a central role in the general theory of stochastic processes and in particular in the theory of progressive enlargements of filtrations. In this paper, we shall give an additive characterization for these supermartingales, which in turn will naturally provide many examples of enlargements of filtrations. We combine this characterization with some arguments from both initial and progressive enlargements of filtrations to establish some path decomposition results, closely related to or reminiscent of Williams' path decomposition results. In particular, some of the fragments of the paths in our decompositions end or start with a new family of random times which are not stopping times, nor honest times.  相似文献
