Two classroom proofs concerning composition operators

We consider composition operators on spaces of analytic functions. First we give an elementary proof for the well-known fact that these operators are bounded on the usual Hardy spaces. Then, for more general spaces, we give two results concerning the question when composition operators are injective or onto, and get a complete answer for a class of spaces, including the Hardy spaces.     

Products of Toeplitz operators

An aspect of the theory of Toeplitz operators on generalised Hardy spaces is considered, namely, a necessary and sufficient condition on the symbols to ensure that the product of two Toeplitz operators is itself a Toeplitz operator. The answer to this question draws on many deep results of the theory of generalised Hardy spaces.     

Isometric Equivalence of Certain Operators on Banach Spaces

A pair of operators on a Banach space X are isometrically equivalent if they are intertwined by a surjective isometry of X. We investigate the isometric equivalence problem for pairs of operators on specific types of Banach spaces. We study weighted shifts on symmetric sequence spaces, elementary operators acting on an ideal I of Hilbert space operators, and composition operators on the Bloch space. This last case requires an extension of known results about surjective isometries of the Bloch space.     

Little Hankel operators on the half plane

In this paper we consider a class of weighted integral operators onL ² (0, ) and show that they are unitarily equivalent to Hankel operators on weighted Bergman spaces of the right half plane. We discuss conditions for the Hankel integral operator to be finite rank, Hilbert-Schmidt, nuclear and compact, expressed in terms of the kernel of the integral operator. For a particular class of weights these operators are shown to be unitarily equivalent to little Hankel operators on weighted Bergman spaces of the disc, and the symbol correspondence is given. Finally the special case of the unweighted Bergman space is considered and for this case, motivated by approximation problems in systems theory, some asymptotic results on the singular values of Hankel integral operators are provided.     

Invariant Subspaces of Positive Quasinilpotent Operators on Ordered Banach Spaces

In this paper we find invariant subspaces of certain positive quasinilpotent operators on Krein spaces and, more generally, on ordered Banach spaces with closed generating cones. In the later case, we use the method of minimal vectors. We present applications to Sobolev spaces, spaces of differentiable functions, and C*-algebras.      

Noncommuting Domination in Krein Spaces Via Commutators of Block Operator Matrices

The commutators of 2 × 2 block operator matrices with (unbounded) operator entries are investigated. The matrix representation of a symmetric operator in a Krein space is exploited. As a consequence, the domination result due to Cichoń, Stochel and Szafraniec is extended to the case of Krein spaces.     

Weighted Composition Operators on H 2 and Applications

Operators on function spaces acting by composition to the right with a fixed selfmap φ of some set are called composition operators of symbol φ. A weighted composition operator is an operator equal to a composition operator followed by a multiplication operator. We summarize the basic properties of bounded and compact weighted composition operators on the Hilbert Hardy space on the open unit disk and use them to study composition operators on Hardy–Smirnov spaces. Essential norm of differences of weighted composition operators between weighted-type spaces on the unit ball

We find an asymptotically equivalent expression to the essential norm of differences of weighted composition operators between weighted-type spaces of holomorphic functions on the unit ball in C^N. As a consequence we characterize the compactness of these operators. The boundedness of these operators is also characterized.     

The effect of boundary geometry on Hankel operators belonging to the trace ideals of Bergman spaces

The characterization of thosef for which the Hankel operatorsH _f belongs to various trace ideals over Bergman spaces on pseudoconvex domains of finite type in complex dimension two is given. In particular, we determine how the cutoff values are affected by the boundary geometry.All three authors supported by grants from the National Science Foundation     

Symmetric relations and module spaces

We study module spaces for linear relations (multi-valued operators) in a Hilbert space. The defect spaces are not required to be finite-dimensional. In particular we pay attention to module spaces for symmetric relations.     

NOTE ON SOME CHARACTERISATIONS OF UNBOUNDED WEAKLY COMPACT OPERATORS

Abstract

Some well known properties of bounded weakly compact operators in Banach spaces are shown to be valid for arbitrary operators in normed spaces.     

Operators on harmonic Bergman spaces

We study the commutator of the multiplication and harmonic Bergman projection, Hankel and Toeplitz operators on the harmonic Bergman spaces. The same type operators have been well studied on the analytic Bergman spaces. The main difficulty of this study is that the bounded harmonic function space is not an algebra! In this paper, we characterize theL ^p boundedness and compactness of these operators with harmonic symbols. Results about operators in Schatten classes, the cut-off phenomenon and general symbols are also included.Partially supported by a grant from the Research Grants Committee of the University of Alabama.     

A reproducing kernel thesis for operators on Bergman-type function spaces

In this paper we consider the reproducing kernel thesis for boundedness and compactness for various operators on Bergman-type spaces. In particular, the results in this paper apply to the weighted Bergman space on the unit ball, the unit polydisc and more generally to weighted Fock spaces.     

Essential norm of the difference of weighted composition operators

We study differences of weighted composition operators between weighted Banach spaces H _ν ^∞ of analytic functions with weighted sup-norms and give an expression for the essential norm of these differences. We apply our result to estimate the essential norm of differences of composition operators acting on Bloch-type spaces. Fixed point theorems for holomorphic mappings and operator theory in indefinite metric spaces

In this paper we establish several new results on the existence and uniqueness of a fixed point for holomorphic mappings and one-parameter semigroups in Banach spaces. We also present an application to operator theory on spaces with an indefinite metric.     

ON THE FUNCTIONAL CALCULUS IN ARCHIMEDEAN RIESZ SPACES WITH APPLICATIONS TO APPROXIMATION THEOREMS

ABSTRACT

We show that the functional calculus defined on the class of Dedekind σ-complete Riesz spaces can be extended to the class of uniformly complete Archimedean Riesz spaces without representing in the process the spaces involved by spaces of functions. As a consequence some results in the theory of Riesz spaces which were proved previously by representation techniques, can now be proved in an intrinsic way.     

Extremal Problems for Operators in Banach Spaces Arising in the Study of Linear Operator Pencils

Inspired by some problems on fractional linear transformations the authors introduce and study the class of operators satisfying the condition where stands for the spectral radius; and the class of Banach spaces in which all operators satisfy this condition, the authors call such spaces V-spaces. It is shown that many well-known reflexive spaces, in particular, such spaces as L_p(0,1) and C_p, are non-V-spaces if p 2; and that the spaces l_p are V-spaces if and only if 1 < p < . The authors pose and discuss some related open problems.     

ON STRICT SINGULARITY OF LOCALLY INTEGRAL OPERATORS ON BANACH FUNCTION SPACES

Abstract

In this note we generalize a result of L. Weis and V. V. Shevchik about strict singularity of the Fourier transform to a large class of locally integral operators on function spaces.
