A scalar complex ordinary differential equation can be considered as two coupled real partial differential equations, along with the constraint of the Cauchy–Riemann equations, which constitute a system of four equations for two unknown real functions of two real variables. It is shown that the resulting system possesses those real Lie symmetries that are obtained by splitting each complex Lie symmetry of the given complex ordinary differential equation. Further, if we restrict the complex function to be of a single real variable, then the complex ordinary differential equation yields a coupled system of two ordinary differential equations and their invariance can be obtained in a non-trivial way from the invariance of the restricted complex differential equation. Also, the use of a complex Lie symmetry reduces the order of the complex ordinary differential equation (restricted complex ordinary differential equation) by one, which in turn yields a reduction in the order by one of the system of partial differential equations (system of ordinary differential equations). In this paper, for simplicity, we investigate the case of scalar second-order ordinary differential equations. As a consequence, we obtain an extension of the Lie table for second-order equations with two symmetries.  相似文献

In this work, we study a Boussinesq equation with a strong damping term from the point of view of the Lie theory. We derive the classical Lie symmetries admitted by the equation as well as the reduced ordinary differential equations. Some nontrivial conservation laws are derived by using the multipliers method. Taking into account the relationship between symmetries and conservation laws and applying the double reduction method, we obtain a direct reduction of order of the ordinary differential equations and in particular a kink solution.  相似文献

The local symmetries of linear differential equations are investigated by means of proven theorems on the structure of the algebra of local symmetries of translationally and dilatationally invariant differential equations. For a nonparabolic second-order equation, the absence of nontrivial nonlinear local symmetries is proved. This means that the local symmetries reduce to the Lie algebra of linear differential symmetry operators. For the Laplace—Beltrami equation, all local symmetries reduce to the enveloping algebra of the algebra of the conformal group.Tomsk State University. Lie symmetries are applied to classify the source of the magnetic field for the Pulsar equation near to the surface of the neutron star. We find that there are six possible different admitted Lie algebras. We apply the corresponding Lie invariants to reduce the Pulsar equation close to the surface to an ordinary differential equation. This equation is solved either with the use of Lie symmetries or the application of the ARS algorithm for singularity analysis to write the analytic solution as a Laurent expansion. These solutions are called inner solutions.  相似文献

A simple method for determining all discrete point symmetries of a given differential equation has been developed recently. The method uses constant matrices that represent inequivalent automorphisms of the Lie algebra spanned by the Lie point symmetry generators. It may be difficult to obtain these matrices if there are three or more independent generators, because the matrix elements are determined by a large system of algebraic equations. This paper contains a classification of the automorphisms that can occur in the calculation of discrete symmetries of scalar ordinary differential equations, up to equivalence under real point transformations. (The results are also applicable to many partial differential equations.) Where these automorphisms can be realized as point transformations, we list all inequivalent realizations. By using this classification as a look-up table, readers can calculate the discrete point symmetries of a given ordinary differential equation with very little effort.  相似文献

For first order scalar ordinary differential equations, a well–known result of Sophus Lie states that a Lie point symmetry can be used to construct an integrating factor and conversely. However, there exist higher order equations without Lie point symmetries that admit integrating factors or that are exact. We present a method based on λ-symmetries to calculate integrating factors. An example of a second order equation without Lie point symmetries illustrates how the method works in practice and how the computations that appear in other methods may be simplified. A systematic investigation to derive Lie point symmetries to time fractional generalized Burgers as well as Korteweg–de Vries equations is presented. Using the obtained Lie point symmetries we have shown that each of them has been transformed into a nonlinear ordinary differential equation of fractional order with a new independent variable. The derivative corresponding to time fractional in the reduced equation is usually known as the Erdélyi–Kober fractional derivative.  相似文献

The Type-II hidden symmetries are extra symmetries in addition to the inherited symmetries of the differential equations when the number of independent and dependent variables is reduced by a Lie point symmetry. In [B. Abraham-Shrauner, K.S. Govinder, Provenance of Type II hidden symmetries from nonlinear partial differential equations, J. Nonlinear Math. Phys. 13 (2006) 612-622] Abraham-Shrauner and Govinder have analyzed the provenance of this kind of symmetries and they developed two methods for determining the source of these hidden symmetries. The Lie point symmetries of a model equation and the two-dimensional Burgers' equation and their descendants were used to identify the hidden symmetries. In this paper we analyze the connection between one of their methods and the weak symmetries of the partial differential equation in order to determine the source of these hidden symmetries. We have considered the same models presented in [B. Abraham-Shrauner, K.S. Govinder, Provenance of Type II hidden symmetries from nonlinear partial differential equations, J. Nonlinear Math. Phys. 13 (2006) 612-622], as well as the WDVV equations of associativity in two-dimensional topological field theory which reduces, in the case of three fields, to a single third order equation of Monge-Ampère type. We have also studied a second order linear partial differential equation in which the number of independent variables cannot be reduced by using Lie symmetries, however when is reduced by using nonclassical symmetries the reduced partial differential equation gains Lie symmetries.  相似文献

In this work, we consider the Lie point symmetry analysis of a strongly nonlinear partial differential equation of third order, the ∞‐Polylaplacian, in two spatial dimensions. This equation is a higher order generalization of the ∞‐Laplacian, also known as Aronsson's equation, and arises as the analog of the Euler–Lagrange equations of a second‐order variational principle in L. We obtain its full symmetry group, one‐dimensional Lie subalgebras and the corresponding symmetry reductions to ordinary differential equations. Finally, we use the Lie symmetries to construct new invariant ∞‐Polyharmonic functions.  相似文献

Lie"s theory for solving second-order quasilinear differential equations based on its symmetries is discussed in detail. Great importance is attached to constructive procedures that may be applied for designing solution algorithms. To this end Lie"s original theory is supplemented by various results that have been obtained after his death one hundred years ago. This is true above all of Janet"s theory for systems of linear partial differential equations and of Loewy"s theory for decomposing linear differential equations into components of lowest order. These results allow it to formulate the equivalence problems connected with Lie symmetries more precisely. In particular, to determine the function field in which the transformation functions act is considered as part of the problem. The equation that originally has to be solved determines the base field, i.e. the smallest field containing its coefficients. Any other field occurring later on in the solution procedure is an extension of the base field and is determined explicitly. An equation with symmetries may be solved in closed form algorithmically if it may be transformed into a canonical form corresponding to its symmetry type by a transformation that is Liouvillian over the base field. For each symmetry type a solution algorithm is described, it is illustrated by several examples. Computer algebra software on top of the type system ALLTYPES has been made available in order to make it easier to apply these algorithms to concrete problems.  相似文献

A new method for finding contact symmetries is proposed for both ordinary and partial differential equations. Symmetries more general than Lie point are often difficult to find owing to an increased dependency of the infinitesimal functions on differential quantities. As a consequence, the invariant surface condition is often unable to be “split” into a reasonably sized set of determining equations, if at all. The problem of solving such a system of determining equations is here reduced to the problem of finding its own point symmetries and thus subsequent similarity solutions to these equations. These solutions will (in general) correspond to some subset of symmetries of the original differential equations. For this reason, we have termed such symmetries associate symmetries. We use this novel method of associate symmetries to determine new contact symmetries for a non-linear PDE and a second order ODE which could not previously be found using computer algebra packages; such symmetries for the latter are particularly difficult to find. We also consider a differential equation with known contact symmetries in order to illustrate that the associate symmetry procedure may, in some cases, be able to retrieve all such symmetries.  相似文献

Symmetry analysis is a powerful tool that enables the user to construct exact solutions of a given differential equation in a fairly systematic way. For this reason, the Lie point symmetry groups of most well-known differential equations have been catalogued. It is widely believed that the set of symmetries of an initial-value problem (or boundary-value problem) is a subset of the set of symmetries of the differential equation. The current paper demonstrates that this is untrue; indeed, an initial-value problem may have no symmetries in common with the underlying differential equation. The paper also introduces a constructive method for obtaining symmetries of a particular class of initial-value problems.  相似文献

The Airy stress function, although frequently employed in classical linear elasticity, does not receive similar usage for granular media problems. For plane strain quasi-static deformations of a cohesionless Coulomb-Mohr granular solid, a single nonlinear partial differential equation is formulated for the Airy stress function by combining the equilibrium equations with the yield condition. This has certain advantages from the usual approach, in which two stress invariants and a stress angle are introduced, and a system of two partial differential equations is needed to describe the flow. In the present study, the symmetry analysis of differential equations is utilised for our single partial differential equation, and by computing an optimal system of one-dimensional Lie algebras, a complete set of group-invariant solutions is derived. By this it is meant that any group-invariant solution of the governing partial differential equation (provided it can be derived via the classical symmetries method) may be obtained as a member of this set by a suitable group transformation. For general values of the parameters (angle of internal friction ? and gravity g) it is found there are three distinct classes of solutions which correspond to granular flows considered previously in the literature. For the two limiting cases of high angle of internal friction and zero gravity, the governing partial differential equation admit larger families of Lie point symmetries, and from these symmetries, further solutions are derived, many of which are new. Furthermore, the majority of these solutions are exact, which is rare for granular flow, especially in the case of gravity driven flows.  相似文献

We investigate some features of generalized symmetries of integrable systems aiming to obtain the Fokas–Gel’fand formula for the immersion of two-dimensional soliton surfaces in Lie algebras. We show that if there exists a common symmetry of the zero-curvature representation of an integrable partial differential equation and its linear spectral problem, then the Fokas–Gel’fand immersion formula is applicable in its original form. In the general case, we show that when the symmetry of the zero-curvature representation is not a symmetry of its linear spectral problem, then the immersion function of the two-dimensional surface is determined by an extended formula involving additional terms in the expression for the tangent vectors. We illustrate these results with examples including the elliptic ordinary differential equation and the CPN?1 sigma-model equation.  相似文献

An approach for determining a class of master partial differential equations from which Type II hidden point symmetries are inherited is presented. As an example a model nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) reduced to a target PDE by a Lie symmetry gains a Lie point symmetry that is not inherited (hidden) from the original PDE. On the other hand this Type II hidden symmetry is inherited from one or more of the class of master PDEs. The class of master PDEs is determined by the hidden symmetry reverse method. The reverse method is extended to determine symmetries of the master PDEs that are not inherited. We indicate why such methods are necessary to determine the genesis of Type II symmetries of PDEs as opposed to those that arise in ordinary differential equations (ODEs).  相似文献

A (2+1) dimensional Broer-Kaup system which is obtained from the constraints of the KP equation is of importance in mathematical physics field. In this paper, the Painlevé analysis of (2+1)-variable coefficients Broer-Kaup (VCBK) equation is performed by the Weiss-Kruskal approach to check the Painlevé property. Similarity reductions of the VCBK equation to one-dimensional partial differential equations including Burger’s equation are investigated by the Lie classical method. The Lie group formalism is applied again on one of the investigated partial differential equation to derive symmetries, and the ordinary differential equations deduced from the optimal system of subalgebras are further studied and some exact solutions are obtained.  相似文献

If an ordinary differential equation admits the nonsolvable Lie algebra     , and we use any of its generators to reduce the order, the reduced equation does not inherit the remaining symmetries. We prove here how the lost symmetries can be recovered as   C   -symmetries of the reduced equation. If the order of the last reduced equation is higher than one, these   C   -symmetries can be used to obtain new order reductions. As a consequence, a classification of the third-order equations that admit     as symmetry algebra is given and a step-by-step method to solve the equations is presented.  相似文献
