A hard scattering mechanism for the production of large pT hadrons is suggested which only involves valence quarks. The corresponding π+π? ratio and the ratios of the away side charged pion correlations are in satisfactory agreement with data.  相似文献

Using a standard parametrization of large pT scattering and assuming the hard subprocess is mediated by a color octet exchange which produces two universally decaying high mass color single jets, we obtain the s and pT dependence of the associated multiplicity. Good agreement with ISR data is found with a jet density of 1.1 charged particle per unit of rapidity.  相似文献

We make predictions for spin asymmetries in the production of gauge bosons, such as Z0, Wsu± and γ, at large pT from the collision of longitudinally polarized hadrons using QCD perturbation theory and the electroweak gauge model in the framework of a hard scattering model. Asymmetries typically at the 20% and 4% level are predicted for the weak bosons and photon, respectively. Experimental tests should be possible in the near future, e.g., at Fermilab, ISABELLE and colliding SPS.  相似文献

The invariant cross sections for π0 meson production in alpha—alpha and alpha—proton collisions at the ISR were meas- ured up to transverse momenta of 7 GeVc and 8 GeVc, respectively. These measurements are compared with π0 production in pp collisions at the same values of s/nucleon, and the variation of the nuclear A-dependence with pT is determined.  相似文献

Formation of Cu-doped SiOxCy nanostructures has been studied by using hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO)/H2/Ar radio frequency (RF) plasma, where a copper tube was utilized as power electrode to generate plasma jet. Tree-like nanostructures were obtained at low concentration of HMDSO. One can find the initial vertical growth of nanowires (NWs) and the spherical structures on sidewalls of the bended NWs, which were attributed to the vertical gas flow and secondary catalyzing due to copper from the ambience, respectively. However, the fragments with big mass were too many to synthesize nanostructure at high concentration of HMDSO. More Cu particles were transported to the substrate while an RF bias was applied to the substrate, which restrained the NWs growth catalyzed by Au and resulted in the formation of acaleph-like nanostructures.  相似文献

We calculate cross sections for the production ofW + andZ bosons in association with 1 and 2 jets at \(p\bar p\) collider energies. The expected rates for these processes in second-order QCD are presented as a function of the cuts on the transverse momenta of the jets and are compared with jet rates measured by UA1.  相似文献

The contribution of the hard scattering subprocess quark + quark → quark + quark + gluon to two-particle inclusive distributions at large p is studied. It is shown to be accessible experimentally, and agrees with recent data on azimuthal distributions in the adequate kinematical region.  相似文献

Properties of QCD jets for two proposed choices of the variable appearing in the QCD running coupling constant, αS(K2) or αS(KT2) with KT2=z(1?z)K2, have been studied in detail by the use of Monte Carlo techniques. Contrary to expectations based on approximate analytic calculations it is found that when substituting K2 with KT2 in αS the growth with energy of the multiplicity of the quanta is not sensibly altered, and it is even slowed down for extreme values of the non-perturbative cutoff, which delimits the minimum virtual mass of the quanta. It appears, therefore, that the analysis of subleading effects may be totally misleading if phase-space constraints are not taken into account exactly, which is possible to do in Monte Carlo calculations.  相似文献

We present a next-to-leading order calculation for the virtual photoproduction of one and two jets inep collisions. Soft and collinear singularities are extracted using the phase space slicing method. The collinear photon initial state singularity depends logarithmically on the mass of the virtual photon and is absorbed into the virtual photon structure function. An $\overline {MS} $ factorization scheme is defined similarly to the real photon case. Numerical results are presented for HERA conditions using the Snowmass jet definition for inclusive single jet and dijet cross sections. We study the dependence of these cross sections on the transverse energies and rapidities of the jets. Finally, we compare the ratio of the experimentally defined resolved and direct cross sections with recent ZEUS data as a function of the photon virtualityP 2.  相似文献

The instability and inhomogeneity of the PdHx and PdDx systems is discussed. A simple model based on the existence of more than one local electronic and or ionic configuration is proposed, and the results of this model are shown to be consistent with several important lattice properties of these systems including a difference between the Pd-H and Pd-D force constants.  相似文献

In the perturbative QCD approach single and double inclusive cross-sections for gluon production off the nucleus are studied by the relevant reggeized gluon diagrams. Various terms corresponding to emission of gluons from the triple pomeron vertex are found. Among them the term derived by Kovchegov and Tuchin emerges as a result of the transition from the diffractive to effective high-energy vertex. However it does not exhaust all the vertex contributions to the inclusive cross-section. In the double inclusive cross-section a contribution violating the naive AGK rules is found in which one gluon is emitted from the vertex and the other from one of the two pomerons below the vertex. We present next-to-leading order calculations of one- and two-jet production in eP collisions at HERA for photon virtualities in the range GeV. Soft and collinear singularities are extracted using the phase space slicing method. Numerical results are presented for HERA conditions with the Snowmass jet definition. The transition between photoproduction and deep-inelastic scattering is investigated in detail. We compare two approaches, the usual deep-inelastic theory, where the virtual photon couples only directly to quarks and antiquarks, and the photoproduction approach, where the photon couples either in the direct way or in the resolved way via the parton constituents of the virtual photon with the proton constituents. Finally we compare with recent H1 data of the dijet rate obtained for various photon virtualities with special attention to the region, in which two jets have equal transverse momenta. Relying on the hard scattering formalism we estimate cross sections and spin asymmetries for large-pt jet production from two-photon processes in collisions of electrons and positrons of definite helicity states. We use distribution functions of polarized partons in polarized electrons obtained in a modified leading logarithmic approximation as well as spin-dependent parton cross sections according to lowest-order QCD calculations. Detecting at least one forward or backward hadronic jet, topologies of jets can be observed different from the 2 large pt production.  相似文献

The secondary ion mass spectrum of silicon sputtered by high energy C60+ ions in sputter equilibrium is found to be dominated by Si clusters and we report the relative yields of Sim+ (1 ≤ m ≤ 15) and various SimCn+ clusters (1 ≤ m ≤ 11 for n = 1; 1 ≤ m ≤ 6 for n = 2; 1 ≤ m ≤ 4 for n = 3). The yields of Sim+ clusters up to Si7+ are significant (between 0.1 and 0.6 of the Si+ yield) with even numbered clusters Si4+ and Si6+ having the highest probability of formation. The abundances of cluster ions between Si8+ and Si11+ are still significant (>1% relative to Si+) but drop by a factor of ∼100 between Si11+ and Si13+. The probability of formation of clusters Si13+-Si15+ is approximately constant at ∼5 × 10−4 relative to Si+ and rising a little for Si15+, but clusters beyond Si15 are not detected (Sim≥16+/Si+ < 1 × 10−4). The probability of formation of Sim+ and SimCn+ clusters depends only very weakly on the C60+ primary ion energy between 13.5 keV and 37.5 keV. The behaviour of Sim+ and SimCn+ cluster ions was also investigated for impacts onto a fresh Si surface to study the effects that saturation of the surface with C60+ in reaching sputter equilibrium may have had on the measured abundances. By comparison, there are very minor amounts of pure Sim+ clusters produced during C60+ sputtering of silica (SiO2) and various silicate minerals. The abundances for clusters heavier than Si2+ are very small compared to the case where Si is the target.The data reported here suggest that Sim+ and SimCn+ cluster abundances may be consistent in a qualitative way with theoretical modelling by others which predicts each carbon atom to bind with 3-4 Si atoms in the sample. This experimental data may now be used to improve theoretical modelling.  相似文献

We report on the calculation of the next-to-leading-order QCD corrections to the production of W-boson pairs in association with a hard jet at the Fermilab Tevatron and CERN Large Hadron Collider, which is an important source of background for Higgs boson and new-physics searches. The corrections stabilize the leading-order prediction for the cross section considerably, in particular, if a veto against the emission of a second hard jet is applied.  相似文献

The differential cross section and all components of the analyzing powers Ay, Axx, Ayy and Axz have been measured in dp elastic scattering at 56 MeV. This is the first measurement of Axz in the cyclotron energy region. Axz has been measured with the beam polarized in the horizontal plane using the polarization tagging method. Faddeev calculations have been performed for four cases of the NN interaction. The Coulomb correction gave smaller effects at the present energy than at lower energies. Three of them reproduce the experimental data well. The agreement between the calculations and data for Axz was better than that reported at lower energy. The deuteron asymptotic D- to S-state ratio has been obtained and is consistent within the limits of uncertainty with previously obtained values.  相似文献

Inclusive cross sections for jet and hadron production in nucleus-nucleus collisions are computed within perturbative QCD with allowance for multiple parton rescattering. We present a mean-field study of the magnetic phase diagram of Ni1−xMox and Ni1−xWx alloys. The pair energies that enter the internal energy part of the free energy are obtained from a first-principles calculation. We try to understand why spin-glass phase is not observed in these alloys.  相似文献
