Examination of the convergence of full valence complete active space self-consistent-field energies with expansion of the one-electron basis set reveals a pattern very similar to the convergence of single determinant Hartree-Fock energies. Calculations on 26 molecular examples with the sequence of ntuple-zeta augmented polarized (nZaP) basis sets (n=2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) are used to evaluate complete basis set extrapolation schemes. The most effective extrapolation reduces the rms one-electron basis set truncation errors from 3.03, 0.58, and 0.12 mhartree to 0.23, 0.05, and 0.014 mhartree for the 3ZaP, 4ZaP, and 5ZaP basis sets, respectively.  相似文献

Examination of the convergence of full valence complete active space self-consistent-field configuration interaction including all single and double excitation (CASSCF-CISD) energies with expansion of the one-electron basis set reveals a pattern very similar to the convergence of single determinant energies. Calculations on the lowest four singlet states and the lowest four triplet states of N(2) with the sequence of n-tuple-zeta augmented polarized (nZaP) basis sets (n=2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) are used to establish the complete basis set limits. Full configuration-interaction (CI) and core electron contributions must be included for very accurate potential energy surfaces. However, a simple extrapolation scheme that has no adjustable parameters and requires nothing more demanding than CAS(10e(-),8orb)-CISD/3ZaP calculations gives the R(e), omega(e), omega(e)X(e), T(e), and D(e) for these eight states with rms errors of 0.0006 Angstrom, 4.43 cm(-1), 0.35 cm(-1), 0.063 eV, and 0.018 eV, respectively.  相似文献

The extrapolation scheme of correlation energy is revisited to evaluate the complete basis set limit from double‐zeta (DZ) and triple‐zeta levels of calculations. The DZ level results are adjusted to the standard asymptotic behavior with respect to the cardinal number, observed at the higher levels of basis sets. Two types of adjusting schemes with effective scaling factors, which recover errors in extrapolations with the DZ level basis set, are examined. The first scheme scales the cardinal number for the DZ level energy, while the second scheme scales the prefactor of the extrapolation function. Systematic assessments on the Gaussian‐3X and Gaussian‐2 test sets reveal that these calibration schemes successfully and drastically reduce errors without additional computational efforts. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The electron correlation energy of two-electron atoms is known to converge asymptotically as approximately (L+1)(-3) to the complete basis set limit, where L is the maximum angular momentum quantum number included in the basis set. Numerical evidence has established a similar asymptotic convergence approximately X(-3) with the cardinal number X of correlation-consistent basis sets cc-pVXZ for coupled cluster singles and doubles (CCSD) and second order perturbation theory (MP2) calculations of molecules. The main focus of this article is to probe for deviations from asymptotic convergence behavior for practical values of X by defining a trial function X(-beta) that for an effective exponent beta=beta(eff)(X,X+1,X+N) provides the correct energy E(X+N), when extrapolating from results for two smaller basis sets, E(X) and E(X+1). This analysis is first applied to "model" expansions available from analytical theory, and then to a large body of finite basis set results (X=D,T,Q,5,6) for 105 molecules containing H, C, N, O, and F, complemented by a smaller set of 14 molecules for which accurate complete basis set limits are available from MP2-R12 and CCSD-R12 calculations. beta(eff) is generally found to vary monotonically with the target of extrapolation, X+N, making results for large but finite basis sets a useful addition to the limited number of cases where complete basis set limits are available. Significant differences in effective convergence behavior are observed between MP2 and CCSD (valence) correlation energies, between hydrogen-rich and hydrogen-free molecules, and, for He, between partial-wave expansions and correlation-consistent basis sets. Deviations from asymptotic convergence behavior tend to get smaller as X increases, but not always monotonically, and are still quite noticeable even for X=5. Finally, correlation contributions to atomization energies (rather than total energies) exhibit a much larger variation of effective convergence behavior, and extrapolations from small basis sets are found to be particularly erratic for molecules containing several electronegative atoms. Observed effects are discussed in the light of results known from analytical theory. A carefully calibrated protocol for extrapolations to the complete basis set limit is presented, based on a single "optimal" exponent beta(opt)(X,X+1,infinity) for the entire set of molecules, and compared to similar approaches reported in the literature.  相似文献

A vast number of non-covalent interaction energies at the counterpoise corrected CCSD(T) level have been collected from the literature to build a diverse new dataset. The whole dataset, which consists of 2027 CCSD(T) energies, includes most of the published data at this level. A large subset of the data was then used to train a novel, B3LYP specific, empirical correction scheme for non-covalent interactions and basis set superposition error (abbreviated as B3LYP-MM). Results obtained with our new correction scheme were directly compared to benchmark results obtained with B3LYP-D3(1) and M06-2X(2) (two popular density functions designed specifically to accurately model non-covalent interactions). For non-covalent complexes dominated by dispersion or dipole-dipole interactions all three tested methods give accurate results with the medium size aug-cc-pVDZ(3-6) basis set with MUE's of 0.27 (B3LYP-MM), 0.32 (B3LYP-D3) and 0.47 kcal/mol (M06-2X) (with explicit counterpoise corrections). These results validate both B3LYP-D3 and M06-2X for interactions of this type using a much larger data set than was presented in prior work. However, our new dispersion correction scheme shows some clear advantages for dispersion and dipole-dipole dominated complexes with the small LACVP* basis set, which is very popular in use due to its low associated computational cost: The MUE for B3LYP-MM with the LACVP* basis set for this subset of complexes (without explicit counterpoise corrections) is only 0.28 kcal/mol, compared to 0.65 kcal/mol for M06-2X or 1.16 kcal/mol for B3LYP-D3. Additionally, our new correction scheme also shows major improvements in accuracy for hydrogen-bonded systems and for systems involving ionic interactions, for example cation-π interactions. Compared to B3LYP-D3 and M06-2X, we also find that our new B3LYP-MM correction scheme gives results of higher or equal accuracy for a large dataset of conformer energies of di- and tripeptides, sugars, and cysteine.  相似文献

Several minimal (7, 3/3) Gaussian basis sets have been used to calculate the energies and some other properties of CH4 and H2O. Improved basis sets developed for these molecules have been extended to NH3 and HF and employed to H2CO and CH3OH. Interaction energies between XHn molecules have been calculated using the old and the new minimal basis sets. The results obtained with the new basis sets are comparable in accuracy to those calculated with significantly more extended basis sets involving polarization functions. Binding energies calculated using the counterpoise method are not much different for the new and the old minimal basis sets, and are likely to be more accurate than the results of much more extended calculations.  相似文献

Explicitly correlated second-order M?ller-Plesset (MP2-F12) calculations of intermolecular interaction energies for the S22 benchmark set of Jurecka, Sponer, Cerny, and Hobza (Chem. Phys. Phys. Chem. 2006, 8, 1985) are presented and compared with standard MP2 results. The MP2 complete basis set limits are estimated using basis set extrapolation and augmented quadruple-zeta and quintuple-zeta basis sets. Already with augmented double-zeta basis sets the MP2-F12 interaction energies are found to be closer to the complete basis set limits than standard MP2 calculations with augmented quintuple-zeta basis sets. Various possible approximations in the MP2-F12 method are systematically tested. Best results are obtained with localized orbitals and the diagonal MP2-F12/C(D) ansatz. Hybrid approximations, in which some contributions of the auxiliary basis set are neglected and which considerably reduce the computational cost, have a negligible effect on the interaction energies. Also the orbital-invariant fixed-amplitude approximation of Ten-no leads to only slightly less accurate results. Preliminary results for the neon and benzene dimers, obtained with the recently proposed CCSD(T)-F12a approximation, indicate that the CCSD(T) basis set limits can also be very closely approached using augmented triple-zeta basis sets.  相似文献

The potential energy surface for the electronic ground state of PH(3) was calculated at the CCSD(T) level using aug-cc-pV(Q+d)Z and aug-cc-pVQZ basis sets for P and H, respectively, with scalar relativistic corrections included. A parametrized function was fitted through these ab initio points, and one parameter of this function was empirically adjusted. This analytical PES was employed in variational calculations of vibrational energies with the newly developed program TROVE. The convergence of the calculated vibrational energies with increasing vibrational basis set size was improved by means of an extrapolation scheme analogous to the complete basis set limit schemes used in ab initio electronic structure calculations. The resulting theoretical energy values are in excellent agreement with the available experimentally derived values.  相似文献

Stacking energies in low-energy geometries of pyrimidine, uracil, cytosine, and guanine homodimers were determined by the MP2 and CCSD(T) calculations utilizing a wide range of split-valence, correlation-consistent, and bond-functions basis sets. Complete basis set MP2 (CBS MP2) stacking energies extrapolated using aug-cc-pVXZ (X = D, T, and for pyrimidine dimer Q) basis sets equal to -5.3, -12.3, and -11.2 kcal/mol for the first three dimers, respectively. Higher-order correlation corrections estimated as the difference between MP2 and CCSD(T) stacking energies amount to 2.0, 0.7, and 0.9 kcal/mol and lead to final estimates of the genuine stacking energies for the three dimers of -3.4, -11.6, and -10.4 kcal/mol. The CBS MP2 stacking-energy estimate for guanine dimer (-14.8 kcal/mol) was based on the 6-31G(0.25) and aug-cc-pVDZ calculations. This simplified extrapolation can be routinely used with a meaningful accuracy around 1 kcal/mol for large aromatic stacking clusters. The final estimate of the guanine stacking energy after the CCSD(T) correction amounts to -12.9 kcal/mol. The MP2/6-31G(0.25) method previously used as the standard level to calculate aromatic stacking in hundreds of geometries of nucleobase dimers systematically underestimates the base stacking by ca. 1.0-2.5 kcal/mol per stacked dimer, covering 75-90% of the intermolecular correlation stabilization. We suggest that this correction is to be considered in calibration of force fields and other cheaper computational methods. The quality of the MP2/6-31G(0.25) predictions is nevertheless considerably better than suggested on the basis of monomer polarizability calculations. Fast and very accurate estimates of the MP2 aromatic stacking energies can be achieved using the RI-MP2 method. The CBS MP2 calculations and the CCSD(T) correction, when taken together, bring only marginal changes to the relative stability of H-bonded and stacked base pairs, with a slight shift of ca. 1 kcal/mol in favor of H-bonding. We suggest that the present values are very close to ultimate predictions of the strength of aromatic base stacking of DNA and RNA bases.  相似文献

A one center method, based on the work of Karplus and Kolker, is discussed and used to calculate the induction energy, through O(R?8), for the H(ls) – H+ interaction employing two types of Gaussian basis sets constructed from functions of the form {rje?αr2}. The effective hydrogen atom excitation energies and transition multipole moment matrix elements generated in these calculations are used to calculate the dispersion energy for the H(ls) – H(ls) interaction, through O(R?10), and the R?9 triple dipole energy corresponding to the interaction of three H(ls) atoms. The results indicate that Gaussian functions can form good basis sets for obtaining long range forces for a variety of multipole interaction energies.  相似文献

It is shown that the multipole expansion of each order of the polarization series converges for large enough intermolecular distances when finite basis sets of Gaussian or Slater-type functions are used to approximate molecular response properties. Convergence of the multipole expansion for each order of the polarization series does not imply convergence of the polarization series itself. A corresponding convergence condition is extracted from the general perturbation theory in a finite-dimensional space and is applied to the H + H+ problem.  For the intermolecular interaction energies of ion-water clusters [OH(H2O) n (n=1,2), F(H2O), Cl(H2O), H3O+(H2O) n (n=1,2), and NH4 +(H2O) n (n=1,2)] calculated with correlation-consistent basis sets at MP2, MP4, QCISD(T), and CCSD(T) levels, the basis set superposition error is nearly zero in the complete basis set (CBS) limit. That is, the counterpoise-uncorrected intermolecular interaction energies are nearly equal to the counterpoise-corrected intermolecular interaction energies in the CBS limit. When the basis set is smaller, the counterpoise-uncorrected intermolecular interaction energies are more reliable than the counterpoise-corrected intermolecular interaction energies. The counterpoise-uncorrected intermolecular interaction energies evaluated using the MP2/aug-cc-pVDZ level is reliable. The leading cause of error in standard coupled cluster theory calculations of thermodynamic properties such as atomization energies and heats of formation originates with the truncation of the one-particle basis set expansion. Unfortunately, the use of finite basis sets is currently a computational necessity. Even with basis sets of quadruple zeta quality, errors can easily exceed 8 kcal/mol in small molecules, rendering the results of little practical use. Attempts to address this serious problem have led to a wide variety of proposals for simple complete basis set extrapolation formulas that exploit the regularity in the correlation consistent sequence of basis sets. This study explores the effectiveness of six formulas for reproducing the complete basis set limit. The W4 approach was also examined, although in lesser detail. Reference atomization energies were obtained from standard coupled-cluster singles, doubles, and perturbative triples (CCSD(T)) calculations involving basis sets of 6ζ or better quality for a collection of 141 molecules. In addition, a subset of 51 atomization energies was treated with explicitly correlated CCSD(T)-F12b calculations and very large basis sets. Of the formulas considered, all proved reliable at reducing the one-particle expansion error. Even the least effective formulas cut the error in the raw values by more than half, a feat requiring a much larger basis set without the aid of extrapolation. The most effective formulas cut the mean absolute deviation by a further factor of two. Careful examination of the complete body of statistics failed to reveal a single choice that out performed the others for all basis set combinations and all classes of molecules.  相似文献

Recently, two different but conceptually similar basis set superposition error (BSSE) free second‐order perturbation theoretical schemes were developed by us that are being based on the chemical Hamiltonian approach (CHA). Using these CHA‐MP2 and CHA‐PT2 methods, a comparison is made between the a posteriori and a priori BSSE correction schemes at the correlated level. Sample calculations are presented for four hydrogen bonded complexes (HFH3N, HFH2O, H2SHF, and H2OHCl) in nine different basis sets (from 6–31G to TZV**++). The results show that the BSSE content is very significant in the interaction energy if electron correlation is accounted for, so removing the BSSE is very important. The differences of the two perturbational theories discussed are connected solely with the different one electron orbital sets used for building up the unperturbed single determinant wave function. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. MP2 and CCSD(T) complete basis set (CBS) limit interaction energies and geometries for more than 100 DNA base pairs, amino acid pairs and model complexes are for the first time presented together. Extrapolation to the CBS limit is done by using two-point extrapolation methods and different basis sets (aug-cc-pVDZ - aug-cc-pVTZ, aug-cc-pVTZ - aug-cc-pVQZ, cc-pVTZ - cc-pVQZ) are utilized. The CCSD(T) correction term, determined as a difference between CCSD(T) and MP2 interaction energies, is evaluated with smaller basis sets (6-31G** and cc-pVDZ). Two sets of complex geometries were used, optimized or experimental ones. The JSCH-2005 benchmark set, which is now available to the chemical community, can be used for testing lower-level computational methods. For the first screening the smaller training set (S22) containing 22 model complexes can be recommended. In this case larger basis sets were used for extrapolation to the CBS limit and also CCSD(T) and counterpoise-corrected MP2 optimized geometries were sometimes adopted.  相似文献

A new implementation of the scaled opposite spin M?ller-Plesset (SOS-MP2) method is briefly described, which exploits the locality and sparsity of expansion coefficients and as a result has computational costs that increase approximately quadratically with molecular size. The performance of SOS-MP2 for describing stacked pi-complexes is carefully investigated using the benzene, ethylene, uracil, and naphthalene dimers as model systems. It is demonstrated that counterpoise-corrected SOS-MP2 results, extrapolated towards the complete basis set (CBS) limit using a two-point extrapolation scheme, can yield association energies that are reasonably close to the best available numbers, when the single scale factor is chosen as 1.55 for extrapolating results at the cc-pVDZ and cc-pVTZ levels. This methodology yields an interaction energy for the fullerene-tetraphenylporphyrin dimer of -31.47 kcal mol(-1) while Hartree-Fock (HF) with the cc-pVTZ basis finds the dimer at the same geometry is unbound by +10.83 kcal mol(-1). This implies that the net binding is a result of substantial correlation effects, presumably long-range London dispersions.  相似文献

In order to elucidate some basic principles for protein–ligand interactions, a subset of 87 structures of human proteins with their ligands was obtained from the PDB databank. After a short molecular dynamics simulation (to ensure structure stability), a variety of interaction energies and structural parameters were extracted. Linear regression was performed to determine which of these parameters have a potentially significant contribution to the protein–ligand interaction. The parameters exhibiting relatively high correlation coefficients were selected. Important factors seem to be the number of ligand atoms, the ratio of N, O and S atoms to total ligand atoms, the hydrophobic/polar aminoacid ratio and the ratio of cavity size to the sum of ligand plus water atoms in the cavity. An important factor also seems to be the immobile water molecules in the cavity. Nine of these parameters were used as known inputs to train a neural network in the prediction of seven other. Eight structures were left out of the training to test the quality of the predictions. After optimization of the neural network, the predictions were fairly accurate given the relatively small number of structures, especially in the prediction of the number of nitrogen and sulfur atoms of the ligand.  相似文献
