We construct, analyze, and implement SSOR‐like preconditioners for non‐Hermitian positive definite system of linear equations when its coefficient matrix possesses either a dominant Hermitian part or a dominant skew‐Hermitian part. We derive tight bounds for eigenvalues of the preconditioned matrices and obtain convergence rates of the corresponding SSOR‐like iteration methods as well as the corresponding preconditioned GMRES iteration methods. Numerical implementations show that Krylov subspace iteration methods such as GMRES, when accelerated by the SSOR‐like preconditioners, are efficient solvers for these classes of non‐Hermitian positive definite linear systems. An iteration method is constructed to solve the linear matrix equation AXB=C over symmetric X. By this iteration method, the solvability of the equation AXB=C over symmetric X can be determined automatically, when the equation AXB=C is consistent over symmetric X, its solution can be obtained within finite iteration steps, and its least-norm symmetric solution can be obtained by choosing a special kind of initial iteration matrix, furthermore, its optimal approximation solution to a given matrix can be derived by finding the least-norm symmetric solution of a new matrix equation . Finally, numerical examples are given for finding the symmetric solution and the optimal approximation symmetric solution of the matrix equation AXB=C.  相似文献

A hybrid iterative scheme that combines the Conjugate Gradient (CG) method with Richardson iteration is presented. This scheme is designed for the solution of linear systems of equations with a large sparse symmetric positive definite matrix. The purpose of the CG iterations is to improve an available approximate solution, as well as to determine an interval that contains all, or at least most, of the eigenvalues of the matrix. This interval is used to compute iteration parameters for Richardson iteration. The attraction of the hybrid scheme is that most of the iterations are carried out by the Richardson method, the simplicity of which makes efficient implementation on modern computers possible. Moreover, the hybrid scheme yields, at no additional computational cost, accurate estimates of the extreme eigenvalues of the matrix. Knowledge of these eigenvalues is essential in some applications.Research supported in part by NSF grant DMS-9409422.Research supported in part by NSF grant DMS-9205531.  相似文献

To further study the Hermitian and non‐Hermitian splitting methods for a non‐Hermitian and positive‐definite matrix, we introduce a so‐called lopsided Hermitian and skew‐Hermitian splitting and then establish a class of lopsided Hermitian/skew‐Hermitian (LHSS) methods to solve the non‐Hermitian and positive‐definite systems of linear equations. These methods include a two‐step LHSS iteration and its inexact version, the inexact Hermitian/skew‐Hermitian (ILHSS) iteration, which employs some Krylov subspace methods as its inner process. We theoretically prove that the LHSS method converges to the unique solution of the linear system for a loose restriction on the parameter α. Moreover, the contraction factor of the LHSS iteration is derived. The presented numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of both LHSS and ILHSS iterations. For the Hermitian and skew‐Hermitian splitting iteration method and its accelerated variant for solving the large sparse saddle‐point problems, we compute their quasi‐optimal iteration parameters and the corresponding quasi‐optimal convergence factors for the more practical but more difficult case that the (1, 1)‐block of the saddle‐point matrix is not algebraically equivalent to the identity matrix. In addition, the algebraic behaviors and the clustering properties of the eigenvalues of the preconditioned matrices with respect to these two iterations are investigated in detail, and the formulas for computing good iteration parameters are given under certain principle for optimizing the distribution of the eigenvalues. For the non‐symmetric algebraic Riccati equations, we establish a class of alternately linearized implicit (ALI) iteration methods for computing its minimal non‐negative solutions by technical combination of alternate splitting and successive approximating of the algebraic Riccati operators. These methods include one iteration parameter, and suitable choices of this parameter may result in fast convergent iteration methods. Under suitable conditions, we prove the monotone convergence and estimate the asymptotic convergence factor of the ALI iteration matrix sequences. Numerical experiments show that the ALI iteration methods are feasible and effective, and can outperform the Newton iteration method and the fixed‐point iteration methods. Besides, we further generalize the known fixed‐point iterations, obtaining an extensive class of relaxed splitting iteration methods for solving the non‐symmetric algebraic Riccati equations. By an equivalent reformulation of the linear complementarity problem into a system of fixed‐point equations, we construct modulus‐based synchronous multisplitting iteration methods based on multiple splittings of the system matrix. These iteration methods are suitable to high‐speed parallel multiprocessor systems and include the multisplitting relaxation methods such as Jacobi, Gauss–Seidel, successive overrelaxation, and accelerated overrelaxation of the modulus type as special cases. We establish the convergence theory of these modulus‐based synchronous multisplitting iteration methods and their relaxed variants when the system matrix is an H + ‐matrix. Numerical results show that these new iteration methods can achieve high parallel computational efficiency in actual implementations. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Based on the preconditioned modified Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (PMHSS) iteration method, we introduce a lopsided PMHSS (LPMHSS) iteration method for solving a broad class of complex symmetric linear systems. The convergence properties of the LPMHSS method are analyzed, which show that, under a loose restriction on parameter α, the iterative sequence produced by LPMHSS method is convergent to the unique solution of the linear system for any initial guess. Furthermore, we derive an upper bound for the spectral radius of the LPMHSS iteration matrix, and the quasi-optimal parameter α ? which minimizes the above upper bound is also obtained. Both theoretical and numerical results indicate that the LPMHSS method outperforms the PMHSS method when the real part of the coefficient matrix is dominant.  相似文献

We consider the numerical solution of the continuous algebraic Riccati equation A*X + XA ? XFX + G = 0, with F = F*,G = G* of low rank and A large and sparse. We develop an algorithm for the low‐rank approximation of X by means of an invariant subspace iteration on a function of the associated Hamiltonian matrix. We show that the sought‐after approximation can be obtained by a low‐rank update, in the style of the well known Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) iteration for the linear equation, from which the new method inherits many algebraic properties. Moreover, we establish new insightful matrix relations with emerging projection‐type methods, which will help increase our understanding of this latter class of solution strategies. We consider implicit integration methods for the numerical solution of stiff initial-value problems. In applying such methods, the implicit relations are usually solved by Newton iteration. However, it often happens that in subintervals of the integration interval the problem is nonstiff or mildly stiff with respect to the stepsize. In these nonstiff subintervals, we do not need the (expensive) Newton iteration process. This motivated us to look for an iteration process that converges in mildly stiff situations and is less costly than Newton iteration. The process we have in mind uses modified Newton iteration as the outer iteration process and a linear solver for solving the linear Newton systems as an inner iteration process. This linear solver is based on an approximate factorization of the Newton system matrix by splitting this matrix into its lower and upper triangular part. The purpose of this paper is to combine fixed point iteration, approximate factorization iteration and Newton iteration into one iteration process for use in initial-value problems where the degree of stiffness is changing during the integration.  相似文献

The rates of convergence of iterative methods with standard preconditioning techniques usually degrade when the skew-symmetric part S of the matrix is relatively large. In this paper, we address the issue of preconditioning matrices with such large skew-symmetric parts. The main idea of the preconditioner is to split the matrix into its symmetric and skew-symmetric parts and to invert the (shifted) skew-symmetric matrix. Successful use of the method requires the solution of a linear system with matrix I+S. An efficient method is developed using the normal equations, preconditioned by an incomplete orthogonal factorization.Numerical experiments on various systems arising in physics show that the reduction in terms of iteration count compensates for the additional work per iteration when compared to standard preconditioners.  相似文献

In a convection-diffusion equation, if the convection term isvery dominant, the linear system of equations which result fromeither finite-differencing or finite elementing will not havea strictly diagonally dominant coefficient matrix. So, if onetries a standard iteration method (Jacobi or Gauss-Seidel) tosolve the linear system of equations, the iteration matrix maynot satisfy the spectral radius condition for convergence andhence no converging solution may be obtained. The problem canbe overcome, under certain conditions, if one uses the two stepiteration/spectrum enveloping procedure of de Pillis in theformat of a Jacobi method. This paper extends the two step iteration/spectrumenveloping idea to a Gauss-Seidel format for a model convection-diffusionproblem. Summary We introduce a multigrid method for the solution of the discrete Stokes equations, arising from a Petrov-Galerkin formulation. The stiffness matrix is nonsymmetric but coercive, hence we consider smoothing iterations which are not suitable for usual indefinite problems. In this report, we prove convergence for a multigrid method with Richardson iteration in the smoothing part.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose some inversion-free iteration methods for finding the largest positive definite solution of a class of nonlinear matrix equation. Then, we consider the properties of the solution for this nonlinear matrix equation. Also, we establish Newton’s iteration method for finding the largest positive definite solution and prove its quadratic convergence. Furthermore, we derive the semi-local convergence of the Newton’s iteration method. Finally, some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results and the behavior of the considered methods.  相似文献

We construct a class of quasi‐Toeplitz splitting iteration methods to solve the two‐sided unsteady space‐fractional diffusion equations with variable coefficients. By making full use of the structural characteristics of the coefficient matrix, the method only requires computational costs of O(n log n) with n denoting the number of degrees of freedom. We develop an appropriate circulant matrix to replace the Toeplitz matrix as a preconditioner. We discuss the spectral properties of the quasi‐circulant splitting preconditioned matrix. Numerical comparisons with existing approaches show that the present method is both effective and efficient when being used as matrix splitting preconditioners for Krylov subspace iteration methods.  相似文献

A generalized skew‐Hermitian triangular splitting iteration method is presented for solving non‐Hermitian linear systems with strong skew‐Hermitian parts. We study the convergence of the generalized skew‐Hermitian triangular splitting iteration methods for non‐Hermitian positive definite linear systems, as well as spectrum distribution of the preconditioned matrix with respect to the preconditioner induced from the generalized skew‐Hermitian triangular splitting. Then the generalized skew‐Hermitian triangular splitting iteration method is applied to non‐Hermitian positive semidefinite saddle‐point linear systems, and we prove its convergence under suitable restrictions on the iteration parameters. By specially choosing the values of the iteration parameters, we obtain a few of the existing iteration methods in the literature. Numerical results show that the generalized skew‐Hermitian triangular splitting iteration methods are effective for solving non‐Hermitian saddle‐point linear systems with strong skew‐Hermitian parts. By introducing a variable substitution, we transform the two‐point boundary value problem of a third‐order ordinary differential equation into a system of two second‐order ordinary differential equations (ODEs). We discretize this order‐reduced system of ODEs by both sinc‐collocation and sinc‐Galerkin methods, and average these two discretized linear systems to obtain the target system of linear equations. We prove that the discrete solution resulting from the linear system converges exponentially to the true solution of the order‐reduced system of ODEs. The coefficient matrix of the linear system is of block two‐by‐two structure, and each of its blocks is a combination of Toeplitz and diagonal matrices. Because of its algebraic properties and matrix structures, the linear system can be effectively solved by Krylov subspace iteration methods such as GMRES preconditioned by block‐diagonal matrices. We demonstrate that the eigenvalues of certain approximation to the preconditioned matrix are uniformly bounded within a rectangle on the complex plane independent of the size of the discretized linear system, and we use numerical examples to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of this new approach. For large sparse systems of linear equations iterative techniques are attractive. In this paper, we study a splitting method for an important class of symmetric and indefinite system. Theoretical analyses show that this method converges to the unique solution of the system of linear equations for all t>0 (t is the parameter). Moreover, all the eigenvalues of the iteration matrix are real and nonnegative and the spectral radius of the iteration matrix is decreasing with respect to the parameter t. Besides, a preconditioning strategy based on the splitting of the symmetric and indefinite coefficient matrices is proposed. The eigensolution of the preconditioned matrix is described and an upper bound of the degree of the minimal polynomials for the preconditioned matrix is obtained. Numerical experiments of a model Stokes problem and a least‐squares problem with linear constraints presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the method. For solving the large sparse linear complementarity problems, we establish modified modulus‐based matrix splitting iteration methods and present the convergence analysis when the system matrices are H+‐matrices. The optima of parameters involved under some scopes are also analyzed. Numerical results show that in computing efficiency, our new methods are superior to classical modulus‐based matrix splitting iteration methods under suitable conditions.
