Bee pollen, because of its high content of nutrients, is a very valuable medicinal and nutritional product. However, since its composition is not completely studied, the consumption of this product may cause adverse effects, including allergic reactions. Therefore, this study aimed to discover and characterize the bioactive proteins of bee pollen collected in Poland, focusing mainly on the allergens. For this purpose, the purified and concentrated pollen aqueous solutions were analyzed using the nanoLC-MALDI-TOF/TOF MS analytical platform. As a result of the experiments, 197 unique proteins derived from green plants (Viridiplantae) and 10 unique proteins derived from bees (Apis spp.) were identified. Among them, potential plant allergens were discovered. Moreover, proteins belonging to the group of hypothetical proteins, whose expression had not been confirmed experimentally before, were detected. Because of the content of bioactive compounds—both beneficial and harmful—there is a critical need to develop guidelines for standardizing bee pollen, especially intended for consumption or therapeutic purposes. This is of particular importance because awareness of the allergen content of bee pollen and other bee products can prevent health- or life-threatening incidents following the ingestion of these increasingly popular “superfoods”.  相似文献

This study aimed to characterize bee products (bee bread, bee pollen, beeswax, and multiflorous honey) with the profile of phenolic compounds, total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid (TFC) contents, and antioxidant and microbiological properties. The TP and TF contents could be ordered as follows: bee pollen > bee bread > beeswax > honey. The UPLC−PDA−MS/MS analysis allowed identifying 20 polyphenols. Sinapic acid dominated in bee pollen, gallic acid in the bee bread and honey, while pinobanksin was the major compound of beeswax. The data showed that bee pollen and bee bread had a stronger antioxidant potential than honey and beeswax. Moreover, the antibacterial activity of the bee products was studied using 14 bacterial strains. Bee bread’s and bee pollen’s antimicrobial activity was higher towards Gram-negative strains. In comparison, honey was more potent in inhibiting Gram-positive bacteria. Our study indicates that bee products may represent valuable sources of bioactive compounds offering functional properties.  相似文献

In the present work, we study the use of near infra-red spectroscopy (NIRS) technology together with a remote reflectance fibre-optic probe for determination of the major components in bee pollen. The method allows immediate control of the bee pollen without prior sample treatment or destruction through direct application of the fibre-optic probe to the sample.The regression method employed was modified partial least squares (MPLS). The calibration results obtained using 45 samples of bee pollen allowed the measurement of protein, moisture, ash, reducing sugars, and pH with multiple correlation coefficients (RSQ) and prediction corrected standard errors (SEPC) of 0.91, 0.56% for protein, of 0.78 and 0.49% for moisture; 0.92 and 0.049% for ash; 0.81 and 1.32 g of glucose/100 g of bee pollen; 0.84 and 0.15 for pH, respectively.The prediction capacity of the pattern was checked by applying it to samples of unknown pollen in external validation.  相似文献

This research was focused on the analysis of material composition and organic residues present in three molds found in the Moravian region (Czech Republic) belonging to the Roman era. X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy pointed out the possible remelting of Roman objects in Barbarian territory. The analysis of organic residues retrieved from the internal part of mold #2 by pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry proved the presence of ozokerite wax (“earth wax”). Consequent analysis of this organic residue by Atmospheric Solids Analysis Probe–ion mobility spectrometry–high-resolution mass spectrometry (ASAP-IMS-HRMS) confirmed the presence of ceresin, the main component of ozokerite. Ceresin was also detected in a sample of the organic residue from mold #1. Note that this is the first application of ASAP-IMS-HRMS in archaeological research. The remains of earth wax in molds suggest the production of wax models as an intermediate stage for the production of lost-wax ceramic casting molds.  相似文献

Ascorbic acid (AA) is one of the essential nutrients in bee pollen, however, it is unstable and likely to be oxidized. Generally, the oxidation form (dehydroascorbic acid (DHA)) is considered to have equivalent biological activity as the reduction form. Thus, determination of the total content of AA and DHA would be more accurate for the nutritional analysis of bee pollen. Here we present a simple, sensitive, and reliable method for the determination of AA, total ascorbic acids (TAA), and DHA in rape (Brassica campestris), lotus (Nelumbo nucifera), and camellia (Camellia japonica) bee pollen, which is based on ultrasonic extraction in metaphosphoric acid solution, and analysis using hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC)-ultraviolet detection. Analytical performance of the method was evaluated and validated, then the proposed method was successfully applied in twenty-one bee pollen samples. Results indicated that contents of AA were in the range of 17.54 to 94.01 µg/g, 66.01 to 111.66 µg/g, and 90.04 to 313.02 µg/g for rape, lotus, and camellia bee pollen, respectively. In addition, percentages of DHA in TAA showed good intra-species consistency, with values of 13.7%, 16.5%, and 7.6% in rape, lotus, and camellia bee pollen, respectively. This is the first report on the discriminative determination between AA and DHA in bee pollen matrices. The proposed method would be valuable for the nutritional analysis of bee pollen.  相似文献

Biochemical investigations were carried out on the embalmed head of Nebiri (Museo Egizio, Turin; S-5109)—an 18th Dynasty Ancient Egyptian dignitary—and on the canopic jar containing his lungs (Museo Egizio, Turin; S. 5111/02) with the aim of characterizing the organ’s (lung) specific paleo-proteins and of identifying the compounds used in his embalming “recipe”. The application of a functionalized film method allowed us to perform a non-invasive sampling. Paleo-proteomics confirmed the presence of lung tissue-specific proteins (organ specific) as well as the presence of proteins linked to severe inflammation. Paleoproteomics and paleometabolomics further allowed the identification of the main components of Nebiri’s embalming recipe: animal fats and glue, balms, essential oils, aromatic plants, heated Pistacia, and coniferous resins. Both the use of Pistacia and coniferous resins in an early 18th Dynasty individual confirm Nebiri’s high social status. The technique applied offers a targeted approach to the chemical characterization of human tissues, embalming compounds, and organic materials layering in pottery. The ability of the functionalized film method to harvest all types of compounds, from macromolecules (i.e., proteins) to small molecules (i.e., organic acids) opens a new path in the study of ancient material culture; furthermore, it allows to perform untargeted analysis, which is necessary when no a priori information is available.  相似文献

Simple SummaryAnalytical discrimination models of Raman spectra of prostate cancer tissue were constructed by using the projections onto latent structures data analysis (PLS-DA) method for different wavelengths of exciting radiation—532 and 785 nm. These models allowed us to divide the Raman spectra of prostate cancer and the spectra of hyperplasia sites for validation datasets with the accuracy of 70–80%, depending on the specificity value. Meanwhile, for the calibration datasets, the accuracy values reached 100% for the excitation of a laser with a wavelength of 785 nm. Due to the registration of Raman “fingerprints”, the main features of cellular metabolism occurring in the tissue of a malignant prostate tumor were confirmed, namely the absence of aerobic glycolysis, over-expression of markers, and a strong increase in the concentration of cholesterol and its esters, as well as fatty acids and glutamic acid.AbstractThe possibilities of using optical spectroscopy methods in the differential diagnosis of prostate cancer were investigated. We report a highly efficient and recyclable heterogeneous zinc catalytic system via covalent immobilization of 2-hydroxyacetophenone (2-HAP) onto an amine functionalized silica gel followed by metallation with zinc chloride and its catalytic application in three component click synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles. The structure of the synthesized organic–inorganic hybrid material (SiO2@APTES@2HAP-Zn) has been confirmed by various physicochemical characterization techniques, such as solid-state 13C CPMAS NMR spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (ED-XRF), and elemental analysis. The newly designed catalyst works under mild reaction conditions and also exhibits excellent performance in terms of good product yield and high turnover number (TON). One of the most important attributes of the present methodology is that the catalyst can be recycled several times without appreciable loss in its activity as proved by FTIR spectroscopy and SEM analysis. Besides, the heterogeneity test also confirms that no leaching of active catalytic species occurs from the silica supported zinc catalyst which confirms its remarkable structural stability under the reaction conditions.  相似文献

Beehive products possess nutritional value and health-promoting properties and are recommended as so-called “superfoods”. However, because of their natural origin, they may contain relevant elemental contaminants. Therefore, to assess the quality of bee products, we examined concentrations of a broad range of 24 selected elements in propolis, bee pollen, and royal jelly. The quantitative analyses were performed with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) techniques. The results of our research indicate that bee products contain essential macronutrients (i.e., K, P, and S) and micronutrients (i.e., Zn and Fe) in concentrations depending on the products’ type. However, the presence of toxic heavy metals makes it necessary to test the quality of bee products before using them as dietary supplements. Bearing in mind that bee products are highly heterogenous and, depending on the environmental factors, differ in their elemental content, it is necessary to develop standards regulating the acceptable levels of inorganic pollutants. Furthermore, since bees and their products are considered to be an effective biomonitoring tool, our results may reflect the environment’s condition in west-central Poland, affecting the health and well-being of both humans and bees.  相似文献

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) greatly influences the transformation of nutrients and pollutants in the environment. To investigate the effects of pyrolysis temperatures on the composition and evolution of pyroligneous acid (PA)-derived DOM, DOM solutions extracted from a series of PA derived from eucalyptus at five pyrolysis temperature ranges (240–420 °C) were analysed with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. Results showed that the dissolved organic carbon content sharply increased (p < 0.05) with an increase in pyrolysis temperature. Analysis of the dissolved organic matter composition showed that humic-acid-like substances (71.34–100%) dominated and other fluorescent components (i.e., fulvic-acid-like, soluble microbial by-products, and proteinlike substances) disappeared at high temperatures (>370 °C). The results of two-dimensional correlation spectroscopic analysis suggested that with increasing pyrolysis temperatures, the humic-acid-like substances became more sensitive than other fluorescent components. This study provides valuable information on the characteristic evolution of PA-derived DOM.  相似文献

Concrete surfaces were studied by two spectroscopic techniques, FT‐IR (in ATR mode) and Raman, to establish a nondestructive method to analyze the distribution of hydrated and organic phases. The surface composition of ordinary clinker, polished concrete, concrete after demoulding, and coated concrete as used in building construction was studied. The clinker's mineral phases and the polished concrete were first analyzed by Raman spectroscopy to determine a spectrum database of the specific phases located on the surface of the concrete. Then, both spectroscopic techniques were used to analyze, directly, the surface of hardened concrete after demoulding. No impact of roughness or porosity was highlighted using Raman spectroscopy; many cementitious, or hydrated phases (alite, belite, tricalcium aluminate, ferrite, portlandite and ettringite) were clearly identified. FT‐IR in ATR mode only identified some hydrated phases: portlandite and CaO? SiO2? H2O (C? S? H), but organic residues from the demoulding oil were characterized by this technique. Furthermore, the convenience of using these techniques together was tested by analyzing the composition of concrete surfaces coated by different organic post‐treatments. FT‐IR spectroscopy was useful to identify the main organic groups at the concrete surface, whereas Raman spectroscopy was especially able to characterize the mineral/hydrated phases under a thick post‐treatment layer (constituted of polyester varnish). Due to their own specificities, these complementary techniques should be used together to easily identify all the mineral phases and organic residues/coatings on concrete surfaces. Characterization of volatile compounds composition and evaluation of antioxidant properties of bee pollen collected in Lithuania is presented in the paper, which is the first study on pollen of Lithuanian origin to our knowledge. Three polyfloral pollen samples collected by honey bees were analyzed. Characterization of volatile compounds was performed using solid phase microextraction (SPME) and GC-MS. Styrene was predominant in all samples contributing 19.6–27.0 mass %. Sample A distinguished by a high amount of limonene, 9.0 mass %, sample B differed from the rest by a high content of hexanal, 9.3 mass %, and nonanal, 12.3 mass %, while sample C showed the highest content of 1-tridecene, 43.3 mass %. Screening of antioxidant properties was carried out by spectrophotometric methods and liquid chromatography coupled with a post-column 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) reaction detector and electrochemical detector. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents together with radical scavenging activity in the free radical (DPPH) model system were evaluated in the tested samples. Total phenolic content varied from 24.4 mg g?1 to 38.9 mg g?1, total flavonoid content was in the range of 7.3–10.0 mg g?1 and radical scavenging activity was found between 30.7 mg g?1 and 34.9 mg g?1, all data are expressed in rutin equivalents. To process the collected data statistically and classify the bee pollen samples to clusters according to their volatile composition and antioxidant activity, principal component analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis and non-linear discriminant analysis were applied.  相似文献

Common “glanded” (Gd) cottonseeds contain the toxic compound gossypol that restricts human consumption of the derived products. The “glandless” (Gl) cottonseeds of a new cotton variety, in contrast, show a trace gossypol content, indicating the great potential of cottonseed for agro-food applications. This work comparatively evaluated the chemical composition and thermogravimetric behaviors of the two types of cottonseed kernels. In contrast to the high gossypol content (3.75 g kg−1) observed in Gd kernels, the gossypol level detected in Gl kernels was only 0.06 g kg−1, meeting the FDA’s criteria as human food. While the gossypol gland dots in Gd kernels were visually observed, scanning electron microcopy was not able to distinguish the microstructural difference between ground Gd and Gl samples. Chemical analysis and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy showed that Gl kernels and Gd kernels had similar chemical components and mineral contents, but the former was slightly higher in protein, starch, and phosphorus contents. Thermogravimetric (TG) processes of both kernels and their residues after hexane and ethanol extraction were based on three stages of drying, de-volatilization, and char formation. TG-FTIR analysis revealed apparent spectral differences between Gd and Gl samples, as well as between raw and extracted cottonseed kernel samples, indicating that some components in Gd kernels were more susceptible to thermal decomposition than Gl kernels. The TG and TG-FTIR observations suggested that the Gl kernels could be heat treated (e.g., frying and roasting) at an optimal temperature of 140–150 °C for food applications. On the other hand, optimal pyrolysis temperatures would be much higher (350–500 °C) for Gd cottonseed and its defatted residues for non-food bio-oil and biochar production. The findings from this research enhance the potential utilization of Gd and Gl cottonseed kernels for food applications.  相似文献

Bee products are known for their beneficial properties widely used in complementary medicine. This study aims to unveil the physicochemical, nutritional value, and phenolic profile of bee pollen and honey collected from Boulemane–Morocco, and to evaluate their antioxidant and antihyperglycemic activity. The results indicate that Citrus aurantium pollen grains were the majority pollen in both samples. Bee pollen was richer in proteins than honey while the inverse was observed for carbohydrate content. Potassium and calcium were the predominant minerals in the studied samples. Seven similar phenolic compounds were found in honey and bee pollen. Three phenolic compounds were identified only in honey (catechin, caffeic acid, vanillic acid) and six phenolic compounds were identified only in bee pollen (hesperidin, cinnamic acid, apigenin, rutin, chlorogenic acid, kaempferol). Naringin is the predominant phenolic in honey while hesperidin is predominant in bee pollen. The results of bioactivities revealed that bee pollen exhibited stronger antioxidant activity and effective α-amylase and α-glycosidase inhibitory action. These bee products show interesting nutritional and bioactive capabilities due to their chemical constituents. These features may allow these bee products to be used in food formulation, as functional and bioactive ingredients, as well as the potential for the nutraceutical sector.  相似文献

Substituted 3-(alk-1-enyl)-2-hydroxynaphthazarins were synthesized. According to data from IR spectroscopy, these compounds exist in organic aprotic solvents as mixtures of tautomeric 1,4-naphthoquinonoid forms. The compositions of tautomeric mixtures were quantitatively determined. Green pepper fruit is often consumed before it is completely ripe. However, the influence of the phenological stage in which the green pepper is consumed as a potential influencing factor in its bioactive compounds content and antioxidant capacity remains unknown. In addition, no literature is available concerning the bioactive compounds changes in ‘Lamuyo’ green peppers along its developmental and growth cycle. For this, two different approaches have been carried out, one using twelve different phenological stages (S1 to S12), and in the other, seven different harvest dates (from 27 February to 20 April). Moreover, bioactive compounds changes during 21 days of postharvest storage at 8 °C were investigated. In this study, bioactive compounds (ascorbic acid, dehydroascorbic acid, and total phenolic content) and the total hydrophilic and lipophilic (TAA-H and TAA-L) antioxidant activity were analysed. In addition, total soluble solids, total acidity, individual sugars, and organic acids were determined. Vitamin C levels increased along the phenological stages and harvest dates due to significant increases in ascorbic and dehydroascorbic acid levels. Our results show that the total phenol content decreases as vegetables develop and subsequently increases both as ripening begins and by the last harvest date. Furthermore, TAA-H was also greater by the phenological stage S12 and the 20 April harvest date. In conclusion, the phenological stage and harvest date are key factors that significantly influence the bioactive compounds of green peppers, and those that appear by S12 and 20 April could be more beneficial to health.  相似文献

Bacteria are a major cause of infection. To fight disease and growing resistance, research interest is focused on understanding bacterial metabolism. For a detailed evaluation of the involved mechanisms, a precise knowledge of the molecular composition of the bacteria is required. In this article, various vibrational spectroscopic techniques are applied to comprehensively characterize, on a molecular level, bacteria of the strain Staphylococcus epidermidis, an opportunistic pathogen which has evolved to become a major cause of nosocomial infections. IR absorption spectroscopy reflects the overall chemical composition of the cells, with major focus on the protein vibrations. Smaller sample volumes-down to a single cell-are sufficient to probe the overall chemical composition by means of micro-Raman spectroscopy. The nucleic-acid and aromatic amino-acid moieties are almost exclusively explored by UV resonance Raman spectroscopy. In combination with statistical evaluation methods [hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), principal component analysis (PCA), linear discriminant analysis (LDA)], the protein and nucleic-acid components that change during the different bacterial growth phases can be identified from the in vivo vibrational spectra. Furthermore, tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) provides insight into the surface structures and follows the dynamics of the polysaccharide and peptide components on the bacterial cells with a spatial resolution below the diffraction limit. This might open new ways for the elucidation of host-bacteria and drug-bacteria interactions.  相似文献

Peaches are one of the most preferred seasonal fruits, and a reliable source of nutrients. They possess biologically active substances that largely differ among varieties. Hence, revealing the potential of several late season peaches is of present interest. Three commonly consumed varieties (“Flat Queen”; “Evmolpiya”; “Morsiani 90”) were studied in terms of nutritive and phytochemical content, as well as antioxidant activity with the use of reliable spectrophotometric and High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (HPLC) methods. An analysis of the soil was also made. The phytochemical data were subjected to principal component analysis in order to evaluate their relationship. The “Morsiani 90” variety had the highest minerals concentration (2349.03 mg/kg fw), total carbohydrates (16.21 g/100 g fw), and α-tocopherol (395.75 µg/100 g fresh weight (fw)). Similar amounts of TDF (approx. 3 g/100 g fw) were reported for all three varieties. “Flat Queen’s” peel extract was the richest in monomeric anthocyanins (2279.33 µg cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3GE)/100 g fw). The “Morsiani 90” variety extracts had the highest antioxidant potential, defined by 2,2-diphenil-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and cupric ion-reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) assays.  相似文献
