Tris(2,4,6-trimethylphenolate) lanthartide [Ln(OTMP)3] has been prepared and employed for ring-opening polymerization of D,L-lactide (LA) as single-component catalysts. The characteristics, kinetics and mechanism were examined. The polymerization is first-order with respect to monomer and initiator concentration, and the overall activation energy amounts to 62.9 kJ/mol. DSC curve disclosed the random structure of PLA. ^1H NMR spectrum analysis demonstrates that the polymerization of LA proceeded through acyl-oxygen bond cleavage.  相似文献

The reaction of anhydrous CoCl2 with NaOAr (ArO=2,4,6‐tri‐tert‐butylphenoxo) in THF at room temperature in 1:3 molar ratio afforded anionic cobalt aryloxide [Na(THF)6][Co(OAr)3] ( 1 ). The definite structure of this complex was characterized by X‐ray single crystal diffraction. It was found that this anionic aryloxo cobalt(II) complex could effectively initiate the ring‐opening polymerization of L‐lactide both in solution and in bulk, leading to high molecular weight poly(L‐lactide).  相似文献

Several new heteroleptic SnII complexes supported by amino‐ether phenolate ligands [Sn{LOn}(Nu)] (LO1=2‐[(1,4,7,10‐tetraoxa‐13‐azacyclopentadecan‐13‐yl)methyl]‐4,6‐di‐tert‐butylphenolate, Nu=NMe2 ( 1 ), N(SiMe3)2 ( 3 ), OSiPh3 ( 6 ); LO2=2,4‐di‐tert‐butyl‐6‐(morpholinomethyl)phenolate, Nu=N(SiMe3)2 ( 7 ), OSiPh3 ( 8 )) and the homoleptic Sn{LO1}2 ( 2 ) have been synthesized. The alkoxy derivatives [Sn{LO1}(OR)] (OR=OiPr ( 4 ), (S)‐OCH(CH3)CO2iPr ( 5 )), which were generated by alcoholysis of the parent amido precursor, were stable in solution but could not be isolated. [Sn{LO1}]+[H2N{B(C6F5)3}2]? ( 9 ), a rare well‐defined, solvent‐free tin cation, was prepared in high yield. The X‐ray crystal structures of compounds 3 , 6 , and 8 were elucidated, and compounds 3 , 6 , 8 , and 9 were further characterized by 119Sn Mössbauer spectroscopy. In the presence of iPrOH, compounds 1 – 5 , 7 , and 9 catalyzed the well‐controlled, immortal ring‐opening polymerization (iROP) of L ‐lactide (L ‐LA) with high activities (ca. 150–550 molL?LA molSn?1 h?1) for tin(II) complexes. The cationic compound 9 required a higher temperature (100 °C) than the neutral species (60 °C); monodisperse poly(L ‐LA)s were obtained in all cases. The activities of the heteroleptic pre‐catalysts 1 , 3 , and 7 were virtually independent of the nature of the ancillary ligand, and, most strikingly, the homoleptic complex 2 was equally competent as a pre‐catalyst. Polymerization of trimethylene carbonate (TMC) occurs much more slowly, and not at all in the presence of LA; therefore, the generation of PLA‐PTMC copolymers is only possible if TMC is polymerized first. Mechanistic studies based on 1H and 119Sn{1H} NMR spectroscopy showed that the addition of an excess of iPrOH to compound 3 yielded a mixture of compound 4 , compound [Sn(OiPr)2]n 10 , and free {LO1}H in a dynamic temperature‐dependent and concentration‐dependent equilibrium. Upon further addition of L ‐LA, two active species were detected, [Sn{LO1}(OPLLA)] ( 12 ) and [Sn(OPLLA)2] ( 14 ), which were also in fast equilibrium. Based on assignment of the 119Sn{1H} NMR spectrum, all of the species present in the ROP reaction were identified; starting from either the heteroleptic ( 1 , 3 , 7 ) or homoleptic ( 2 ) pre‐catalysts, both types of pre‐catalysts yielded the same active species. The catalytic inactivity of the siloxy derivative 6 confirmed that ROP catalysts of the type 1 – 5 could not operate according to an activated‐monomer mechanism. These mechanistic studies removed a number of ambiguities regarding the mechanism of the (i)ROPs of L ‐LA and TMC promoted by industrially relevant homoleptic or heteroleptic SnII species.  相似文献

Iso‐selective initiators for the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of rac‐lactide are rare outside of Group 13. We describe the first examples of highly iso‐selective lutetium initiators. The phosphasalen lutetium ethoxide complex shows excellent iso‐selectivity, with a Pi value of 0.81–0.84 at 298 K, excellent rates, and high degrees of polymerization control. Conversely, the corresponding La derivative exhibits moderate heteroselectivity (Ps=0.74, 298 K). Thus, the choice of metal center is shown to be crucial in determining the level and mode of stereocontrol. The relative order of rates for the series of complexes is inversely related to metallic covalent radius: that is, La>Y>Lu.  相似文献

Eight new N‐Hoveyda‐type complexes were synthesized in yields of 67–92 % through reaction of [RuCl2(NHC)(Ind)(py)] (NHC=1,3‐bis(2,4,6‐trimethylphenylimidazolin)‐2‐ylidene (SIMes) or 1,3‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenylimidazolin)‐2‐ylidene (SIPr), Ind=3‐phenylindenylid‐1‐ene, py=pyridine) with various 1‐ or 1,2‐substituted ferrocene compounds with vinyl and amine or imine substituents. The redox potentials of the respective complexes were determined; in all complexes an iron‐centered oxidation reaction occurs at potentials close to E=+0.5 V. The crystal structures of the reduced and of the respective oxidized Hoveyda‐type complexes were determined and show that the oxidation of the ferrocene unit has little effect on the ruthenium environment. Two of the eight new complexes were found to be switchable catalysts, in that the reduced form is inactive in the ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of cis‐cyclooctene (COE), whereas the oxidized complexes produce polyCOE. The other complexes are not switchable catalysts and are either inactive or active in both reduced and oxidized states.  相似文献

The ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide initiated by single‐component rare‐earth tris(4‐tert‐butylphenolate)s was conducted. The influences of the rare‐earth elements, solvents, temperature, monomer and initiator concentrations, and reaction time on the polymerization were investigated in detail. No racemization was found from 70 to 100 °C under the examined conditions. NMR and differential scanning calorimetry measurements further confirmed that the polymerization occurred without epimerization of the monomer or polymer. A kinetic study indicated that the polymerization rate was first‐order with respect to the monomer and initiator concentrations. The overall activation energy of the ring‐opening polymerization was 79.2 kJ mol?1. 1H NMR data showed that the L ‐lactide monomer inserted into the growing chains with acyl–oxygen bond cleavage. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Divalent samarocene complex [(C5H9C5H4)2Sm(tetrahydrofuran)2] was prepared and characterized and used to catalyze the ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide (L‐LA) and copolymerization of L‐LA with caprolactone (CL). Several factors affecting monomer conversion and molecular weight of polymer, such as polymerization time, temperature, monomer/catalyst ratio, and solvent, were examined. The results indicated that polymerization was rapid, with monomer conversions reaching 100% within 1 h, and the conformation of L‐LA was retained. The structure of the block copolymer of CL/L‐LA was characterized by NMR and differential scanning calorimetry. The morphological changes during crystallization of poly(caprolactone) (PCL)‐b‐P(L‐LA) copolymer were monitored with real‐time hot‐stage atomic force microscopy (AFM). The effect of temperature on the morphological change and crystallization behavior of PCL‐b‐P(L‐LA) copolymer was demonstrated through AFM observation. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. N‐Carboxyanhydride ring‐opening polymerization (NCA ROP) is a synthetically straightforward methodology to generate homopolypeptides. Extensive control over the polymerization permits the production of highly monodisperse synthetic polypeptides to a targeted molecular weight in the absence of unfavorable side reactions. Sequential NCA ROP permits the creation of block copolypeptides composed of individual polypeptide blocks boasting different functionalities, secondary structures, and desirable chemical properties. Consequently, a plethora of novel materials have been generated that have found wide‐range applicability. This review offers an insight into contemporary synthetic approaches toward NCA ROP before highlighting a number of block copolypeptide architectures generated.  相似文献

L,L ‐lactide (LA) and ε‐caprolactone (CL) block copolymers have been prepared by initiating the poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) block growth with living poly(L,L ‐lactide) (PLA*). In the previous attempts to prepare block copolymers this way only random copolyesters were obtained because the PLA* + CL cross‐propagation rate was lower than that of the PLA–CL* + PLA transesterification. The present paper shows that application of Al‐alkoxide active centers that bear bulky diphenolate ligands results in efficient suppression of the transesterification. Thus, the corresponding well‐defined di‐ and triblock copolymers could be prepared.

This communication describes photoresponsive gels, prepared using ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), that dissolve upon irradiation with ultraviolet light. Exposure of mixtures of norbornene‐type ROMP monomers and new photoreactive cross‐linkers comprising two norbornene units bound through a chain containing o‐nitrobenzyl esters (NBEs) to well‐known ruthenium carbene catalysts gave cross‐linked polymer networks that swelled in organic solvents or water depending on the structure of the monomer. These gels became homogeneous upon irradiation with UV light, consistent with breaking of the cross‐links through photolysis of the NBE groups. The irradiation time required for homogenization of the gels depended on the cross‐link density and the structure of the photoresponsive cross‐linker.

Various half‐titanocene complexes of the ATiCl2Nu type, where A is the pentamethylcyclopentadienyl (Cp*) or indenyl (Ind) group and Nu a nucleophile (ethoxy group or chloride), were used for the polymerization of L ‐lactide, LLA. In the cases where Nu is an ethoxy group, a 5% excess of ATiCl3 was used to accelerate the polymerization reaction. These systems were proven to be very efficient initiators for the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of LLA in toluene at 130 °C. Kinetic studies revealed that in most cases the polymerization yield was quantitative and the molecular weight increased linearly with time, leading to well‐defined PLLA with narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.1). LLA was also polymerized by the in situ formation of the initiating system after mixing IndTiCl3, benzyl alcohol, BzOH, and NEt3. The thermal properties of the produced polymers were examined by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The activation energy of the thermal decomposition was calculated by the Ozawa–Flynn–Wall and Kissinger methods. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

A water‐soluble polycarbonate with dimethylamino pendant groups, poly(2‐dimethylaminotrimethylene carbonate) (PDMATC), is synthesized and characterized. First, the six‐membered carbonate monomer, 2‐dimethylaminotrimethylene carbonate (DMATC), is prepared via the cyclization reaction of 2‐(dimethylamino)propane‐1,3‐diol with triphosgene in the presence of triethylamine. Although the attempted ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of DMATC with Sn(Oct)2 as a catalyst fails, the ROP of DMATC is successfully carried out with Novozym‐435 as a catalyst to give water‐soluble aliphatic polycarbonate PDMATC with low cytotoxicity and good degradability.  相似文献

The successful activation observed when using ButP4 phosphazene base and thiophenol or bisthiols for the anionic ring opening polymerization (ROP) of di‐n‐propyl cyclopropane‐1,1‐dicarboxylate is described. Well‐defined monofunctional or difunctional polymers with a very narrow molecular weight distribution were obtained through a living process. Quantitative end‐capping of the propagating malonate carbanion was accessible by using either an electrophilic reagent such as allyl bromide or a strong acid such as HCl. Kinetics studies demonstrated a much higher reactivity compared to the conventional route using alkali metal thiophenolates.

Metal‐based catalysts and initiators have played a pivotal role in the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters, thanks to their high activity and remarkable ability to control precisely the architectures of the resulting polyesters in terms of molar mass, dispersity, microstructure, or tacticity. Today, after two decades of extensive research, the field is slowly reaching maturity. However, several challenges remain, while original concepts have emerged around new types or new applications of catalysis. This Review is not intended to comprehensively cover all of these aspects. Rather, it provides a personal overview of the very recent progress achieved in some selected, important aspects of ROP catalysis—stereocontrol and switchable catalysis. Hence, the first part addresses the development of new metal‐based catalysts for the isoselective ROP of racemic lactide towards stereoblock copolymers, and the use of syndioselective ROP metal catalysts to control the monomer sequence in copolymers. A second part covers the development of ROP catalysts—primarily metal‐based catalysts, but also organocatalysts—that can be externally regulated by the use of chemical or photo stimuli to switch them between two states with different catalytic abilities. Current challenges and opportunities are highlighted.  相似文献

Summary: Radical copolymerization of 1,1‐bis(ethoxycarbonyl)‐2‐vinylcyclopropane (ECVCP) with allyl carbonates that contain isopropyl groups yields highly branched polyvinylcyclopropanes. The polymerizations were carried out in the presence of 2,2‐azoisobutyronitrile at 150 °C in chlorobenzene. Structural analysis of the polymers suggested that radical ring‐opening polymerization proceeded through 1,5‐ring‐opening followed by transfer to the allylic carbonate comonomers. Intra‐molecular cyclization, which yields polycyclobutane units, was also observed during the polymerization.

Coating of silica nanoparticles by biocompatible and biodegradable polymers of ε‐caprolactone and L ‐lactide was performed in situ by ring‐opening polymerization of the cyclic monomers with aluminum, yttrium, and tin alkoxides as catalysts. Hydroxyl groups were introduced on the silica surface by grafting of a prehydrolyzed 3‐glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane to initiate a catalytic polymerization in the presence of metal alkoxides. In this manner, free polymer chains were formed to grafted ones, and the graft density was controlled by the nature of the metal and the alcohol‐to‐metal ratio. The grafting reaction was extensively characterized by spectroscopic techniques and quantified. Nanocomposites containing up to 96% of polymer were obtained by this technique. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 1976–1984, 2004  相似文献

D ,L ‐3‐Methylglycolide (MG) was synthesized via two step reactions with a good yield (42%). It was successfully polymerized in bulk with stannous octoate as a catalyst at 110 °C. The effects of the polymerization time and catalyst concentration on the molecular weight and monomer conversion were studied. Poly(D ,L ‐lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid) (D ,L ‐PLGA50; 50/50 mol/mol) copolymers were successfully synthesized from the homopolymerization of MG with high polymerization rates and high monomer conversions under moderate polymerization conditions. 1H NMR spectroscopy indicated that the bulk ring‐opening polymerization of MG conformed to the coordination–insertion mechanism. 13C NMR spectra of D ,L ‐PLGA50 copolymers obtained under different experimental conditions revealed that the copolymers had alternating structures of lactyl and glycolyl. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave (MW)‐assisted ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) provides a rapid and straightforward method for engineering a wide array of well‐defined poly(3‐hydroxyalkanoate)‐b‐poly(D,L ‐lactide) (PHA‐b‐PLA) diblock copolymers. On MW irradiation, the bulk ROP of D,L ‐lactide (LA) could be efficiently triggered by a series of monohydroxylated PHA‐based macroinitiators previously produced via acid‐catalyzed methanolysis of corresponding native PHAs, thus affording diblock copolyesters with tunable compositions. The dependence of LA polymerization on temperature, macroinitiator structure, irradiation time, and [LA]0/[PHA]0 molar ratio was carefully investigated. It turned out that initiator efficiency values close to 1 associated with conversions ranging from 50 to 85% were obtained only after 5 min at 115 °C. A kinetic investigation of the MW‐assisted ROP of LA gave evidence of its “living”/controlled character under the experimental conditions selected. Structural analyses and thermal properties of biodegradable diblock copolyesters were also performed. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献
