Loewy Modules with Finite Loewy Invariants and Max Modules with Finite Radical Invariants

Over a commutative ring R, a module is artinian if and only if it is a Loewy module with finite Loewy invariants [5 Facchini , A. ( 1981 ). Loewy and artinian modules over commutative rings . Ann. Mat. Pura Appl. 128 : 359 – 374 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]]. In this paper, we show that this is not necesarily true for modules over noncommutative rings R, though every artinian module is always a Loewy module with finite Loewy invariants. We prove that every Loewy module with finite Loewy invariants has a semilocal endomorphism ring, thus generalizing a result proved by Camps and Dicks for artinian modules [3 Camps , R. , Dicks , W. Anisotropic Modules over Artinian Principal Ideal Rings

Let V be a finite-dimensional vector space over a field k, and let W be a 1-dimensional k-vector space. Let ?,?: V × V → W be a symmetric bilinear form. Then ?,? is called anisotropic if for all nonzero v ∈ V we have ? v, v ? ≠ 0. Motivated by a problem in algebraic number theory, we give a generalization of the concept of anisotropy to symmetric bilinear forms on finitely generated modules over artinian principal ideal rings. We will give many equivalent definitions of this concept of anisotropy. One of the definitions shows that a form is anisotropic if and only if certain forms on vector spaces are anisotropic. We will also discuss the concept of quasi-anisotropy of a symmetric bilinear form, which has no vector space analogue. Finally, we will discuss the radical root of a symmetric bilinear form, which does not have a vector space analogue either. All three concepts have applications in algebraic number theory.

A Family of Graded Modules Associated to a Module

In this article we introduce a certain family of graded modules associated to a given module. These modules provide a natural extension of the notion of the associated graded ring of an ideal. We will investigate their properties. In particular, we will try to extend Ree' theorem on the associated graded ring of an ideal generated by a regular sequence to this context.     

New Characterizations of Dualizing Modules

Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring. In this article, we provide some new criteria for a semidualizing module to be dualizing in terms of special homological properties of module categories. The purpose of this article is twofold: first, it aims at improving Christensen's and Takahashi et al.'s characterizations of dualizing modules; secondly, while applying these criteria to the ring itself, we not only recover some results of Jenda and Xu, respectively, but also obtain a new characterization of Gorenstein rings.     

Some Properties of Artin-Rees Modules and Rings

The class of Artin-Rees modules is large.It contains modules satisfying (accr).In this paper, we investigate such modules and show that some properties of modules satisfying (accr) can be generalized to modules of this class.     

Artinian Rings Characterized by Direct Sums of CS Modules

Abstract

In this note, we show that the following are equivalent for a ring R for which the socle or the injective hull of R _R is finitely generated: (i) The direct sum of any two CS right R-modules is again CS; (ii) R is right Artinian and every uniform right R-module has composition length at most two. Next we give partial answers to a question of Huynh whether a right countably Σ-CS ring which either is semilocal or has finite Goldie dimension is right Σ-CS. We give characterizations, in terms of radicals, of when such rings are right Σ-CS. In particular, for the semilocal case, Huynh's question is reduced to whether rad(Z ₂(R _R )) is Σ-CS or Noetherian, where Z ₂(R _R ) is the second singular right ideal of R. Our results yield new characterizations of QF-rings.     

Rings Characterized by a Class of Modules

ABSTRACT

Let ? be a class of right R-modules. The notions of ?-injectivity and ?-flatness are used to investigate right ?-Noetherian rings, right ?-hereditary rings, and right ?-coherent rings. For an almost excellent extension S ≥ R, if either ring is the above-mentioned ring, so is the other. Specializing the class ?, some known results can be obtained and extended as corollaries.

Characterizations of schunck classes of finite groups

We prove a number of results concerning Armendariz rings and Gaussian rings. Recall that a (commutative) ring R is (Gaussian) Armendariz if for two polynomials f,g∈R[X] (the ideal of R generated by the coefficients of f g is the product of the ideals generated by the coefficients of f and g) fg = 0 implies a _i b _j=0 for each coefficient a _i of f and b _j of g. A number of examples of Armendariz rings are given. We show that R Armendariz implies that R[X] is Armendariz and that for R von Neumann regularR is Armendariz if and only if R is reduced. We show that R is Gaussian if and only if each homomorphic image of R is Armendariz. Characterizations of when R[X] and R[X] are Gaussian are given.     

Generalization of Regular Modules

We study generalizations of regular modules by Ramamurthy and Mabuchi. These are also generalizations of fully right idempotent and fully left idempotent rings, respectively. We also define and study the properties of *-weakly regular modules, a generalization of fully idempotent rings.

Modules over serial rings

This paper continues the study of Noetherian serial rings. General theorems describing the structure of such rings are proved. Modules Whose Endomorphism Rings are Division Rings

The well-known Schur's Lemma states that the endomorphism ring of a simple module is a division ring. But the converse is not true in general. In this paper we study modules whose endomorphism rings are division rings. We first reduce our consideration to the case of faithful modules with this property. Using the existence of such modules, we obtain results on a new notion which generalizes that of primitive rings. When R is a full or triangular matrix ring over a commutative ring, a structure theorem is proved for an R-module M such that End _R (M) is a division ring. A number of examples are given to illustrate our results and to motivate further study on this topic.     

Indecomposable Modules and Gelfand Rings

It is proved that a commutative ring is clean if and only if it is Gelfand with a totally disconnected maximal spectrum. It is shown that each indecomposable module over a commutative ring R satisfies a finite condition if and only if R _P is an Artinian valuation ring for each maximal prime ideal P. Commutative rings for which each indecomposable module has a local endomorphism ring are studied. These rings are clean and elementary divisor rings. It is shown that each commutative ring R with a Hausdorff and totally disconnected maximal spectrum is local-global. Moreover, if R is arithmetic, then R is an elementary divisor ring.
