The plasmon turbulence parametrically excited by two strong external waves with a frequency difference close to twice the electron plasma frequency is investigated in underdense plasmas. The nonlinear stabilization of the growing plasmons due to scattering by ions is described by a nonlinear integro-differential equation for the spectral plasmon energy density. The dependence of the turbulent relaxation of the plasmon energy and its stationary level on the parameters of the plasma and the pump waves is given by analytical and numerical solutions of this equation.  相似文献

The parametric excitation of longitudinal waves in an infinite homogeneous plasma by a pump field E (t) = E 0(t) sin (ω0t + φ(t)) is studied on the basis of the Vlasov equation, where the amplitude E 0(t) and the phase φ(t) are slowly varying compared with ω0 periodic functions. Firstly it is assumed that ω0 is much larger than the electron plasma frequency ωLe. In the second part the parametric instabilities are considered under the resonance condition ω0 ≈ ωLe. In both parts the threshold fields for the excitation of the longitudinal waves and their growth rates are calculated. As an example these values are analysed for both a sequence of pump impulses and a phase-moduated pump field. They are compared with the results received for a monochromatic pump field.  相似文献

The parametric decay process in inhomogeneous layers existing near the plasma boundaries or in front of antennas and probes in a plasma has been investigated. The linear enhancement of the pump field near ω = ωp, the threshold fieldstrength, the wavenumber selection rules and the influence of spontaneous low frequency fluctuations are discussed in detail using a one-dimensional model of the inhomogeneous plasma capacitor. According to this model the instabilities appear in the layers with maximum linear transformation and (linear) absorption. In addition, a strong nonlinear part of absorption in the presence of the instability has been observed. The level of the spontaneous low frequency fluctuations influences strongly the spectrum of the parametrically excited ion waves. The experiments show a redistribution of the transferred ion acoustic wave energy over the whole wave continuum up to ωpi, if a sufficient strong spontaneous fluctuation level exists in the plasma. It is impossible, however, to excite ion acoustic turbulence by the decay of the high frequency pump field under the present conditions. The conditions for the linear field enhancement are disturbed by the action of the ponderomotive forces changing the density profile near the critical point before reaching the strong pump amplitude being necessary for the excitation of a cascade of decay processes.  相似文献

The generation of coherent optical phonons in an antimony film has been directly observed by the femtosecond electron diffraction method. The sample has been excited by a femtosecond laser pulse (λ = 800 nm) and probed with a pulsed photoelectron beam. Oscillations of the intensity corresponding to vibration frequencies of optical phonons excited by the laser have been observed in the obtained diffraction patterns: totally symmetric (A1g) and twofold degenerate (E2g) phonon modes of antimony and their combinations.  相似文献

The generation of coherent optical phonons in a polycrystalline antimony film sample has been investigated using femtosecond electron diffraction method. Phonon vibrations have been induced in the Sb sample by the main harmonic of a femtosecond Ti:Sa laser (λ = 800 nm) and probed by a pulsed ultrashort photoelectron beam synchronized with the pump laser. The diffraction patterns recorded at different times relative to the pump laser pulse display oscillations of electron diffraction intensity corresponding to the frequencies of vibrations of optical phonons: totally symmetric (A 1g ) and twofold degenerate (E g ) phonon modes. The frequencies that correspond to combinations of these phonon modes in the Sb sample have also been experimentally observed.  相似文献

The nonpolar optic phonons of E2 symmetry in CdS are shown to exhibit a pronounced decrease in Raman cross-section at certain excitation energies. For the E2 phonon branch at 43 cm−1 the minimum cross-section occurs for laser excitation ∼0.18 eV below the band gap, and cross-section vs. excitation energy near this antiresonant minimum can be described by an equation of the form used by Ralston et al. for transverse polar phonon cross-sections. For the E2 mode at 256 cm−1 the antiresonance occurs at wavelengths longer than 6328 Å.  相似文献

A nonlinear theory of the interaction of an external pump field with ion-acoustic and h.f. surface waves in a plasma layer with inhomogeneous boundary regions is presented for the case, when the pump field frequency is less than the electron plasma frequency. The evolution of the parametrically excited turbulence and its stationary state are both analytically treated and numerically demonstrated. Dependent on the pump field strength, two mechanisms are to be distinguished: (i) nonlinear generation of damped ion-acoustic harmonics, (ii) cascade excitation of secondary eigenmodes by growing surface oscillations. At only slight overthreshold values, mechanism (i) is responsible for the occurence of the steady state, whereas, for higher pump field strength, the wave amplitudes as well as their saturated levels are mainly determined by mechanism (ii).  相似文献

Raman studies are reported for the A 1 (TO), E 2 (high) and E 1 (LO) phonons of Co-doped AlN whiskers from 78 K to 778 K. The temperature dependence of the Raman shifts and line widths of these phonons can be well described by an empirical model which takes into account the contribution of the thermal expansion of the lattice and the symmetric decay of phonons into two and three identical phonons with lower energy. Our results show that the three-phonon process is the dominant decay channel in A 1 (TO), E 2 (high) and E 1 (LO). The symmetric decay of A 1 (TO) may be attributed to the production of two LA phonons near the M symmetry point of the Brillouin zone. For E 2 (high), the symmetric decay may be near the M and L symmetry points. The E 1 (LO) phonon, whose decay behavior has not been identified in AlN, may decay near the H and K symmetry points of the Brillouin zone. Compared with undoped AlN, the stronger temperature dependence of the A 1 (TO) and E 2 (high) phonons in Co-doped AlN whiskers was observed, which is probably due to the distortion of the lattice and the much larger tensile stress after doping Co into AlN.  相似文献

Abstract

The fundamental problem of Farley-Buneman turbulence in the auroral E-region has been discussed and debated extensively in the past two decades. In the present paper we intend to clarify the different steps that the auroral E-region plasma has to undergo before reaching a steady state. The mode-coupling calculation, for Farley-Buneman turbulence, is developed in order to place it in perspective and to estimate its magnitude relative to the anomalous effects which arise through the nonlinear wave-particle interaction. This nonlinear effect, known as nonlinear “Landau damping” is due to the coupling of waves which produces other waves which in turn lose energy to the bulk of the particles by Landau damping. This leads to a decay of the wave energy and consequently a heating of the plasma. An equation governing the evolution of the field spectrum is derived and a physical interpration for each of its terms is provided.  相似文献

The vibrational properties of InN films with different strain have been studied using Infrared ellipsometry and Raman scattering spectroscopy. We have established a correlation between the phonon mode parameters and the strain, which allows the determination of the deformation potentials and the strain-free frequencies of the InN E1(TO) and E2 modes. The LO phonons and their coupling to the free-carrier plasmon excitations are also discussed in relation to the carrier concentration in the films.  相似文献

We study the ultrafast dynamics of surface electromagnetic waves photogenerated on aluminum film perforated with subwavelength holes array by means of transient photomodulation with ∼100 fs time resolution. We observed a pronounced blueshift of the resonant transmission band that reveals the important role of plasma attenuation in the dynamics and that is inconsistent with plasmon–polariton mechanism of extraordinary transmission. The transient photomodulation spectra were successfully modeled within the Boltzmann equation approach for the electron–phonon relaxation dynamics, involving non-equilibrium hot electrons and quasi-equilibrium phonons.  相似文献

The resonance of the 2TO phonon second order Raman band of germanium was investigated in the vicinity of the E1, E1 + Δ1 gaps. The peak reported earlier for 2TO phonons at Γ is interpreted as due to a resonant process of the iterative type, involving two first order electron-phonon vertices. The rest of the 2TO band is interpreted as a process involving a second order electron-two phonon interaction vertex. From these measurements three phonon coupling constants for the electron-two phonon interaction are obtained.  相似文献

The effect of optical phonons scattering on electronic current has been studied in metallic carbon nanotubes. The current has been calculated self-consistently by total voltage equation and the heat transport equation. The total voltage equation consists of three terms, optical phonons collision term, acoustic phonon scattering term, and contact resistance one. Including LO, A1, and E1(2) phonons in collision term, we can reproduce the experimental I-V curves displaying negative differential conductance. Furthermore, one conclusion is made that the more optical phonons are scattered by electron, the lower current is in metallic carbon nanotubes. By comparing the current under different conditions, we can make another conclusion that there should be nonequilibrium optical phonons under high bias in spite of whether the metallic nanotube is suspended or not. This result agrees well with the others [M. Lazzeri, F. Mauri, Phys. Rev. B 73 (2006) 165419]. Based on these results, we do not only explain the experiment, but also propose to design a heat-controlling electronic transistor with metallic carbon nanotubes as its channel, in which the electronic current can be controlled by optical phonons.  相似文献

The stability of the electromagnetic plasma confinement by powerful external s-polarized pump waves is considered. The parametric excitation of standing electromagnetic waves along the plasma boundary with frequencies close to the frequency of the pump wave leads to a periodic density modulation of the plasma boundary. The density disturbances along the direction of the external wave field are connected to the excitation of transverse p-polarized surface waves while the modulation in the direction perpendicular to the pump field are created by the parametric interaction between the external wave and s-polarized trapped leaking oscillations. Only when the leaking waves are excited the scale length of the modulation is larger than half the free space wave length of the incident radiation.  相似文献

Thermal conductivity and ballistic phonon imaging measurements in KH2PO4 (KDP) at low temperature (T<3K) indicate that scattering from domain walls has a large effect on phonon transport. kDP has a ferroelectric phase transition from tetragonal to orthorhombic structure atT c =122 K. BelowT c domains of opposite electric polarization and crystal orientation form unless the sample is colled in an electric field. Thermal conductivity measured along the [100] (tetragonal) axis drops 30% when domain walls are present, which is independent of sample size and temperature. We attribute this decrease to phonon polarization-dependent scattering at the domain boundaries. This is verified by measurements of ballistic transport, using phonon imaging techniques, which reveal the phonon polarization and mode dependence of the scattering. The scattering is successfully modelled using continuum acoustics with simple acoustic mismatch at the domainwall. The interface scattering is found to be mode dependent: Caustic structures in the phonon images due to slow transverse phonons are most affected by the domain wall scattering, which channels these phonons along parallel planes by multiple reflections without mode conversion. Mode conversion scattering, though possible for a number of phonons, has little effect on the overall phonon transmission.  相似文献

The coupling of 4f electrons and longitudinal optical phonons and its implications on different types of structural phase transitions in intermediate valence compounds is discussed within the framework of the periodic Anderson model. Two types of interactions are considered. First, the usual density type of coupling of 4f electrons and phonons leads to a weakly temperature dependent renormalization of the positionE 0 of the 4f level with respect to the 5d band. Secondly, phonon induced 4f–5d interband transitions lead to a renormalization of the hybridization energyV of 4f and conduction electrons. For appropriate parameter values the latter effect gives rise to discontinuous changes of the occupation of the 4f state.The tendency towards a ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic instability is essentially suppressed by the presence of phonons.The dependence of the susceptibility on temperature and onE 0 is calculated and a jump is found whenever a discontinuous change of the occupation of the 4f state occurs.Work performed within the research program of the Sonderforschungsbereich 125, Aachen-Jülich-Köln  相似文献

The propagation of ion acoustic (IA) solitary waves is investigated in a magnetized electron-positron-ion (EPI) plasma with Tsalli distributed electrons and Maxwellian positrons. A non-linear Korteweg–de Vries (KdV)-type equation is derived for the potential by using the reductive perturbation method (RPM), and its solitary wave solution is analysed. For a given set of plasma parameters, the present model supports only compressive IA solitary structures. It is found that the variation of various relevant plasma parameters, like the nonextensive parameter q, temperature ratio σ , direction cosine lz , the positron concentration γ and the magnetic field strength Ω significantly alter the characteristic properties of IA solitary waves.  相似文献

I present a nonlinear differential equation model (DAM) for the spectrum of Kelvin waves on a thin vortex filament. This model preserves the original scaling of the six-wave kinetic equation, its direct and inverse cascade solutions, as well as the thermodynamic equilibrium spectra. Further, I extend DAM to include the effect of sound radiation by Kelvin waves. I show that, because of the phonon radiation, the turbulence spectrum ends at a maximum frequency of ω* ∼ (ε3 c s 2016)1/13, where ε is the total energy injection rate, c s is the speed of sound, and κ is the quantum of circulation. The phase transitions in DyVO4 at about 14K and in TbVO4 at about 33K have been investigated by Raman scattering. The Eg phonons are split below the transition temperature but the singlet phonon modes are not appreciably affected. No soft phonon mode is observed but large changes are seen in the low lying electronic levels. These results appear to be a consequence of a cooperative Jahn-Teller effect.  相似文献
