Fiber Bragg gratings were written in thulium-doped and undoped single-mode ZBLAN fibers by focusing femtosecond laser pulses on the fiber core through a phase mask. Maximum index modulation of the order of 1 x 10(-3) was induced in both types of fibers. Measurements of the transverse refractive index changes across the core and cladding regions indicate that the grating formation originates from a negative index change. 相似文献

A deep ultraviolet femtosecond laser operating at wavelength 258 nm was demonstrated to be effective in trimming fiber Bragg gratings in telecommunication fibers. A smooth tunable resonance wavelength shift of up to 0.52 nm has been observed, corresponding to a refractive index change of ∼5 × 10−4 after an accumulated laser fluence of 63.3 kJ/cm2 at a single pulse fluence of 124 mJ/cm2. The ultrafast laser enhancement of ultraviolet photosensitivity response and modification of anisotropic index profile in silica fiber is a powerful technique to precise control of the performance of fiber Bragg grating devices for applications in optical filtering and polarization mode dispersion management. 相似文献

We present a multiple parameter integrated fiber sensor that can detect vector bending and ambient temperature simultaneously with a single asymmetric multimode fiber Bragg grating. Multimode Bragg gratings were fabricated in an all-silica core fiber by an infrared femtosecond laser, which showed multiple transmission dips in the transmission spectrum. Bending and ambient temperature fluctuations affect the shapes of multiple transmission dips in different ways. In bending, different dips have different sensitivities. On the other hand, temperature fluctuations tended to influence the dips uniformly across different dips. By analyzing the changing spectrum of dips, one can distinguish the changes induced by bending or temperature fluctuations. Furthermore, the high thermal stability of Bragg gratings inscribed by an infrared femtosecond laser can make this double parameter fiber sensor work in very harsh, high-temperature environments. 相似文献

Fabrication of long-period fiber gratings by focused irradiation of infrared femtosecond laser pulses 总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9
We have fabricated long-period fiber gratings by use of a novel technique using focused irradiation of infrared femtosecond laser pulses. We investigate the thermal stability of the fabricated fiber gratings. The values of the loss peak wavelength and the transmittance of the fiber gratings after heat treatment below 500 degrees C are the same as initial values before heat treatment. The fiber gratings that were fabricated by this technique have a high resistance to thermal decay. We propose that this technique will be useful for fabrication of fiber gratings with a superior aging characteristic. 相似文献

Bragg gratings in air-silica structured fibers 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We report on grating writing in air-silica structured optical fibers with pure silica cores by use of two-photon absorption at 193 nm. A decrease in propagation loss with irradiation was observed. The characteristic growth curves were obtained. 相似文献

We present volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) with a period of 1.075 μm inscribed in fused silica using a femtosecond laser and
a phase mask. The femtosecond-inscribed VBGs can be used as reflecting elements with reflectivities of about 80% for a 1-mm-long
grating. Due to the non-sinusoidal refractive-index shape, higher order Bragg resonances up to the 7th reflection order could
be measured. Therefore, the Bragg gratings also reflect light in the visible-wavelength range. 相似文献

Bragg gratings have been written in germanium-doped optical fibers that have been treated to remove the UV absorption bands associated with oxygen-deficient defects. When one is using high-intensity 193-nm light from an ArF excimer laser to fabricate the gratings, the refractive index increases and the grating transmission spectra are similar to those obtained in standard (untreated) fiber. 相似文献

Type I infrared ultrafast laser induced fiber Bragg gratings have been shown to exhibit higher-order resonances related to the Fourier components possessed by their nonsinusoidal index change profile. Using successive higher-order phase masks, we determine the Fourier components of type I-IR gratings in both hydrogen-loaded and unloaded fiber. Knowledge of the relative dc and ac components of a fiber Bragg grating is required for tailoring its spectral response. 相似文献

The intracore fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) were successfully written into the non-photosensitive multi-mode Tm-doped fiber
core by the 800 nm fs laser and a phase mask. Using the varied focal length lens, the tunable writing was realized, and the
tunable wavelength band was over 84 nm. A geometrical optics imaging model and numerical calculation were described to explain
the tunable writing mechanism. The interference modulation intensity characteristics were also theoretically investigated
considering the beam incident angle variation. Based on the intracore FBGs, the all-fiber Tm-doped fiber laser had a maximal
output power of 15.8 W with a slope efficiency of 30% and threshold of 5.1 W. 相似文献
