Trapezoidal and triangular approximations preserving the expected interval

In this paper, an improvement of the nearest trapezoidal approximation operator preserving the expected interval is studied, which is proposed by Grzegorzewski and Mrówka. A formula for computing the improved approximation is presented. Moreover, the nearest triangular approximation operator preserving the expected interval is also investigated.     

Approximation of fuzzy numbers by trapezoidal fuzzy numbers preserving the expected interval

The problem to find the nearest trapezoidal approximation of a fuzzy number with respect to a well-known metric, which preserves the expected interval of the fuzzy number, is completely solved. The previously proposed approximation operators are improved so as to always obtain a trapezoidal fuzzy number. Properties of this new trapezoidal approximation operator are studied.     

Triangular and parametric approximations of fuzzy numbers—inadvertences and corrections

Recent papers were dedicated to approximate fuzzy numbers by triangular, trapezoidal or parametric fuzzy numbers, with or without additional conditions. Unfortunately, the result of approximation is not always a fuzzy number, sometimes it is not a fuzzy set. We point out the wrongs and inadvertences in some recent papers, then we correct the results.     

The valuation of life contingencies: A symmetrical triangular fuzzy approximation

This paper extends the framework for the valuation of life insurance policies and annuities by Andrés-Sánchez and González-Vila (2012, 2014) in two ways. First we allow various uncertain magnitudes to be estimated by means of fuzzy numbers. This applies not only to interest rates but also to the amounts to be paid out by the insurance company. Second, the use of symmetrical triangular fuzzy numbers allows us to obtain expressions for the pricing of life contingencies and their variability that are closely linked to standard financial and actuarial mathematics. Moreover, they are relatively straightforward to compute and understand from a standard actuarial point of view.     

Metric properties of the nearest extended parametric fuzzy number and applications

We propose the notion of extended parametric fuzzy number, which generalizes the extended trapezoidal fuzzy number and parametric fuzzy number, discussed in some recent papers. The metric properties of the nearest extended parametric fuzzy number of a fuzzy number, proved in the present article, help us to obtain the property of continuity for the parametric approximation operator and to simplify the solving of the problems of parametric approximations under conditions.     

The middle-parametric representation of fuzzy numbers and applications to fuzzy interpolation

In this paper we introduce the middle-parametric representation of a fuzzy number presenting some of the advantages in the use of this representation. A special attention is focused on the subset of symmetric fuzzy numbers presenting the special properties of their arithmetic. The approach on symmetric fuzzy numbers is sustained by the applications of these kinds of fuzzy numbers in fuzzy linear programming and by the presence of the symmetric Gaussian type fuzzy numbers in the theory of errors. As potential applications of the middle-parametric representation, some fuzzy interpolation problems are considered.     

Fuzzy n-cell numbers and the differential of fuzzy n-cell number value mappings

In this paper, we give the definition of a special kind of n-dimension fuzzy numbers, fuzzy n-cell numbers, discuss their operations and representation theorems, define a complete metric on the fuzzy n-cell number space and prove that the metric is equivalent to the supremum metric derived by the Hausdorff metric between the level sets of the n-dimension fuzzy numbers, and obtain an embedding theorem of the fuzzy n-cell number space (isometrically embeds it into a concrete Banach space). We also consider the differential of the fuzzy mappings from an interval into the fuzzy n-cell number space by using the embedding theorem.     

On the possibilistic mean value and variance of multiplication of fuzzy numbers

In this paper, we introduce the definitions of the possibilistic mean, variance and covariance of multiplication of fuzzy numbers, and show some properties of these definitions. Then, we apply these definitions to build the possibilistic models of portfolio selection under the situations involving uncertainty over the time horizon, by considering the portfolio selection problem from the point of view of possibilistic analysis. Moreover, numerical experiments with real market data indicate that our approach results in better portfolio performance.     

On the Cesàro convergence of sequences of fuzzy numbers

In this paper we have determined necessary and sufficient Tauberian conditions under which convergence follows from (C,1)-convergence of sequences of fuzzy numbers.
