Headspace solid-phase microextraction(HS-SPME) with sol-gel calix[6]arene-containing fiber followed by gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector was used to examine the composition and distribution of seven polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) in water. The novel SPME fiber exhibited higher extraction efficiency to PAHs compared with poly(dimethylsiloxane) and other calixarene-containing fibers. Extraction/retention mechanism based on the interactions between calixarenes and PAHs was discussed. ...  相似文献

Two methods to estimate distribution coefficients (K) between air and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) coating of solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fibers for eight low molecular polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) there are presented. The PDMS phases were used for determination of the coefficients according to equilibrium theory with help of a developed static calibration system (SCS). Another way to estimate the coefficients is based on the use of a linear relationship between the logarithm of the coefficients (log K) and linear temperature-programmed retention indexes (LTPRI) of the compounds without necessity to calibrate. The log K values for both of methods ranged from 5.2 (naphthalene) to 8.9 (pyrene) at 22 degrees C. Relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of log K for each compound determined by static calibration was no more than 5.3%. R.S.D. of retention times for LTPRI indices did not exceed 0.28% for repeated injection. All experiments were implemented on a GC-MS system.  相似文献

In this work we present a new approach for protection of the fiber in solid phase microextraction (SPME) from interfering charged particles present in the sample medium. It involves coating of commercial poly(dimethylsiloxane) extraction phase with polyelectrolyte layer composed of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride), and poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate). The modified fiber provides reproducible, convenient and fast extraction capabilities toward the model analyte, triclosan (TCS). A negatively charged polyelectrolyte coating prevents sorbing oxidic nanoparticles from both partitioning into the PDMS phase and aggregation at its surface. The results for the TCS/nanoparticle sample show that the polyelectrolyte layer-modified solid phase extracts just the free form of the organic compound and enables dynamic speciation analysis of the nanoparticulate target analyte complex.  相似文献

A sol-gel polydimethyldiphenylsiloxane (PDMDPS) coating was developed for capillary microextraction on-line hyphenated with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). This coating was created using methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) as the sol-gel precursor and di-hydroxy-terminated PDMDPS as the sol-gel active polymer. The methyl and phenyl groups on the sol-gel active polymer and the methyl groups on the sol-gel precursor ultimately turned into pendant groups providing the ability to extract non-polar analytes. A 40-cm segment of 0.25mm I.D. fused silica capillary containing the sol-gel PDMDPS coating was installed as an external sampling loop in an HPLC injection port. Aqueous samples containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), aromatic compounds, ketones, and aldehydes were passed through this capillary wherein the analytes were extracted by the sol-gel coating. The extracted analytes were then transferred to the HPLC column using isocratic or gradient elution with an acetonitrile/water mobile phase. This capillary demonstrated excellent extraction capability for non-polar (e.g., polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and aromatic compounds) as well as moderately polar compounds, such as aromatic amines, ketones, and aldehydes. The test results indicate that PDMDPS can be successfully immobilized into a sol-gel network and that the resulting solvent-resistant sol-gel organic-inorganic hybrid coating can be effectively used for on-line hyphenation of capillary microextraction with high-performance liquid chromatography. The test results also indicate that the sol-gel PDMDPS coated capillary is resistant to high-temperature solvents, making it suitable for applications in high-temperature HPLC. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the creation of a silica-based sol-gel PDMDPS coating used in capillary microextraction on-line hyphenated to HPLC.  相似文献

A solid-phase microextraction (SPME) procedure has been developed for the determination of 16 US Environmental Protection Agency promulgated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Five kinds of SPME fibers were used and compared in this study. The extracted sample was analyzed by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection or mass spectrometry. Parameters affecting the sorption of analyte into the fibers, including sampling time, thickness of the fiber coating, and the effect of temperature, have been examined. Moreover, the feasibility of headspace SPME with different working temperatures was evaluated. The method was also applied to real samples. The 85-microm polyacrylate (PA) and 100-microm poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) fibers were shown to have the highest affinities for the selected PAHs. The PA fiber was more suitable than the PDMS fiber for the determination of low-ring PAHs while high sensitivity of high-ring PAHs was observed when a 100-microm PDMS fiber was used. The method showed good linearity between 0.1 and 100 ng/ml with regression coefficients ranging from 0.94 to 0.999. The reproducibility of the measurements between fibers was found to be very good. The precisions of PA and PDMS fibers were from 3 to 24% and from 3 to 14%, respectively. Headspace SPME is a valid alternative for the determination of two- to five-ring PAHs. A working temperature of 60 degrees C provides significant enhancement in sensitivity of two- to five-ring PAHs having low vapor pressures (>10(-6) mmHg at 25 degrees C) (1 mmHg = 133.3 Pa) and low Henry's constants (>10 atm ml/mol) (1 atm = 1.01 x 10(5) Pa).  相似文献

The composition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in crude oil is usually too complex to use standard capillary gas chromatography to separate all of the components. In this study, a multidimensional gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique was used to analyze polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon fractions of crude oil collected from the Dongying oil field in the Bohai Sea. A DB-17MS column (30?m?×?0.25?mm?×?0.25?µm) was used as a prefractionating column and only selected heart-cuts were transferred to the second chromatographic dimension (HP-5MS, 15?m?×?0.25?mm?×?0.25?µm) by a pressure-adjusted continual flow-type switching device for quantification of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The chromatographic elements and parameters, such as detector selection and column combinations, were optimized. Naphthalene, phenanthrene, fluorene, dibenzothiophene, chrysene, and their C1–C4 alkyl homologs were identified. The profile of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons obtained using the multidimensional GC-MS method was compared with the results obtained by traditional one-dimensional GC-MS.  相似文献

Solid-phase extraction (SPE) is an established sample-preparation technique for clean-up procedures of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The suitability of monofluorinated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (F-PAHs) as a novel set of internal standards, was tested for two widely used SPE sorbents, octyl-bonded silica and styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer. The elution profiles of eight F-PAHs and their parent PAHs, taken from the priority pollutant list of the US-Environmental Protection Agency, were compared for demineralized water and waste water. In both instances, the match of the elution profiles was exceptionally close. The eight F-PAHs and the corresponding PAHs were determined by reversed-phase liquid chromatography using acetonitrile-water gradient elution with UV detection at 254 nm. The UV spectra of the F-PAHs show a small bathochromic shift compared with the parent PAHs.  相似文献

Magnetic polyimide poly(4,4′‐oxydiphenylene‐pyromellitimide) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized and developed for the solid‐phase extraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in seawater samples. The aromatic rings of polyimide coating provided a good adsorption capacity (28.3–42.5 mg/g) for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons because of the π–π stacking interaction. The developed method was used as a simple, fast, and efficient extraction and preconcentration technique for the trace analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The high chemical, physical and thermal stability, excellent reusability, and good magnetic properties are the merits of the sorbent. High preconcentration factors (41–63) were obtained. The sorbent was also characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X‐ray spectrometry, transmission electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry. After optimizing several appropriate extraction parameters, the results indicated that the extraction recoveries of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were in the range of 61.6–94.7%, with relative standard deviations between 2.9 and 5.4%, the calibration graph was linear in the concentration range of 1–100 μg/L (r > 0.9991) with limit of detection in the range of 0.15–0.19 μg/L (n = 3). Seawater samples were analyzed as real samples and good recoveries (68.5–99.5%) were obtained at different spiked values.  相似文献

A novel on‐line pretreatment pump‐injection HPLC system for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons is proposed. We report novel pump‐injection HPLC‐based on‐line SPE with a specially designed pretreatment column for the determination of trace amounts of chemical substances in surface water. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are well known for strong carcinogenicity and thus a severe concentration control is required for drinking water and/or river water, which is the main resource of tap water. We found it possible to detect ng/L levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by using pump‐injection column switching HPLC with fluorescence detection. To avoid the phenomenon, in which polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons can be often adsorbed on the surface of flow lines of HPLC by their highly hydrophobicity especially resin‐made parts in sample delivery pump, we employed “autodilution” device that provides reliable recovery and repeatability. Additionally, real water samples were collected and then the spiked polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were determined at ng/L levels.  相似文献

An inorganic–organic hybrid nanocomposite (zinc oxide/polypyrrole) that represents a novel kind of coating for in‐tube solid‐phase microextraction is reported. The composite coating was prepared by a facile electrochemical polymerization strategy on the inner surface of a stainless‐steel tube. Based on the coated tube, a novel online in‐tube solid‐phase microextraction with liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry method was developed and applied for the extraction of three monohydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in human urine. The coating displayed good extraction ability toward monohydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. In addition, long lifespan, excellent stability, and good compression resistance were also obtained for the coating. The experimental conditions affecting the extraction were optimized systematically. Under the optimal conditions, the limits of detection and quantification were in the range of 0.039–0.050 and 0.130–0.167 ng/mL, respectively. Good linearity (0.2–100 ng/mL) was obtained with correlation coefficients larger than 0.9967. The repeatability, expressed as relative standard deviation, ranged between 2.5% and 9.4%. The method offered the advantage of process simplicity, rapidity, automation, and sensitivity in the analysis of human urinary monohydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in two different cities of Hubei province. An acceptable recovery of monohydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (64–122%) represented the additional attractive features of the method in real urine analysis.  相似文献

The ultimate goal of the chemist is to perform sample preparation, and analysis, if possible at the place where a sample is located rather than moving the sample to laboratory, as is common practice in many cases at the present time. This approach eliminates errors and time associated with sample transport and storage and therefore it would result in more accurate, precise and faster analytical data. In addition to portability, two other important features of ideal field sample preparation technique are elimination of solvent use and integration with a sampling step. A method is developed which addresses these requirements for the determination of time-weighted average concentration of gas phase compounds using a solid-phase microextraction device. Quantification of target analytes in air using this method can be carried out without external calibration. The volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds in air diffuse into the fiber coating which is retracted a known distance into its needle housing during the sampling period. The coatings used are poly(dimethylsiloxane) and poly(dimethylsiloxane)-divinylbenzene. The sampling rate at which gas phase analytes load onto the fiber is determined for a wide range of hydrocarbons. There is a good agreement between the theoretical and experimental sampling rates. Sampling time ranges from 1 min to 24 h depending on the coating used and its retraction distance. Effect of the flow-rate on the uptake rate by the fiber is studied. The method is tested in the field and compared with National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety Method 1550. Good agreement between the results is obtained.  相似文献

The amphiphilic polymer‐grafted silica was newly prepared as a stationary phase in high‐performance liquid chromatography. Poly(4‐vinylpyridine) with a trimethoxysilyl group at one end was grafted onto porous silica particles and the pyridyl side chains were quaternized with 1‐bromooctadecane. The obtained poly(octadecylpyridinium)‐grafted silica was characterized by elemental analysis, diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis. The degree of quaternization of the pyridyl groups on the obtained stationary phase was estimated to be 70%. The selective retention behaviors of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons including some positional isomers were investigated using poly(octadecylpyridinium)‐grafted silica as an amphiphilic polymer stationary phase in high‐performance liquid chromatography and results were compared with commercially available polymeric octadecylated silica and phenyl‐bonded silica columns. The results indicate that the selectivity toward polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons exhibited by the amphiphilic polymer stationary phase is higher than the corresponding selectivity exhibited by a conventional phenyl‐bonded silica column. However, compared with the polymeric octadecylated silica phase, the new stationary phase presents similar retention behavior for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons but different retention behavior particularly for positional isomers of disubstituted benzenes as the aggregation structure of amphiphilic polymers on the surface of silica substrate has been altered during mobile phase variation.  相似文献

Stir bar sorptive extraction is an environmentally friendly microextraction technique based on a stir bar with various sorbents. A commercial stirrer is a good support, but it has not been used in stir bar sorptive extraction due to difficult modification. A stirrer was modified with carbon nanoparticles by a simple carbon deposition process in flame and characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectrometry. A three‐dimensional porous coating was formed with carbon nanoparticles. In combination with high‐performance liquid chromatography, the stir bar was evaluated using five polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons as model analytes. Conditions including extraction time and temperature, ionic strength, and desorption solvent were investigated by a factor‐by‐factor optimization method. The established method exhibited good linearity (0.01–10 μg/L) and low limits of quantification (0.01 μg/L). It was applied to detect model analytes in environmental water samples. No analyte was detected in river water, and five analytes were quantified in rain water. The recoveries of five analytes in two samples with spiked at 2 μg/L were in the range of 92.2–106% and 93.4–108%, respectively. The results indicated that the carbon nanoparticle‐coated stirrer was an efficient stir bar for extraction analysis of some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.  相似文献

Effects of ozone on air sampling of standard gas mixtures of aromatic hydrocarbons were tested using solid-phase microextraction (SPME). Standard concentrations of ozone ranging from 10 ppb (v/v) to 6400 ppm (v/v) were generated using an in-house built ozone generator based on corona discharge. Effects of temperature, discharge voltage, and oxygen flow on the ozone generation were tested. The working dc voltage had the greatest effect on generated ozone concentration and was proportional to the ozone concentration. Generation temperature and oxygen flow rate were inversely proportional to ozone concentrations. Produced ozone was mixed with standard benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) gas at less than 100 ppb (v/v). Air samples were collected with poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) 100 microm SPME fibers and analyzed by gas chromatography (GC)-flame ionization detection (FID) and GC-MS. Significant reductions of BTEX concentrations were observed. In addition, some products of BTEX-ozone-oxygen reactions were identified. SPME worked well as a rapid sampler for BTEX and BTEX-ozone-oxygen reaction products. No significant deterioration of the PDMS coating and no significant reduction of absorption capacity were observed after repeated exposure to ozone.  相似文献

A novel, low‐cost and effective in‐needle solid‐phase microextraction device was developed for the enrichment of trace polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in water samples. The in‐needle solid‐phase microextraction device could be easily assembled by inserting hydrofluoric acid‐etched wires, which were used as adsorbent, into a 22‐gauge needle tube within spring supporters. Compared with the commercial solid‐phase microextraction fiber, the developed device has higher efficiency for the extraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with four to six rings from water samples using the optimized extraction conditions. With gas chromatography equipped with a flame ionization detector, the limits of detection for the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with four to six rings ranged from 0.0020 to 0.0067 ng/mL. The relative standard deviations for one needle and needle‐to‐needle extractions were in the range of 5.2–9.9% (n = 5) and 3.4–12.3% (n = 5), respectively. The spiked recoveries of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in tap water samples ranged from 73.2 to 95.4%. This in‐needle solid‐phase microextraction device could be a good field sampler because of the low sample loss over a long storage time.  相似文献

An in‐tube solid‐phase microextraction device was developed by packing poly(ionic liquids)‐coated stainless‐steel wires into a polyether ether ketone tube. An anion‐exchange process was performed to enhance the extraction performance. Surface properties of poly(ionic liquids)‐coated stainless‐steel wires were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X‐ray spectrometry. The extraction device was connected to high‐performance liquid chromatography equipment to build an online enrichment and analysis system. Ten polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were used as model analytes, and important conditions including extraction time and desorption time were optimized. The enrichment factors from 268 to 2497, linear range of 0.03–20 μg/L, detection limits of 0.010–0.020 μg/L, extraction and preparation repeatability with relative standard deviation less than 1.8 and 19%, respectively were given by the established online analysis method. It has been used to detect polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in environmental samples, with the relative recovery (5, 10 μg/L) in the range of 85.1–118.9%.  相似文献

A sol–gel titania poly(tetrahydrofuran) (poly-THF) coating was developed for capillary microextraction hyphenated on-line with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Poly-THF was covalently bonded to the sol–gel titania network which, in turn, became chemically anchored to the inner surface of a 0.25 mm I.D. fused silica capillary. For sample preconcentration, a 38-cm segment of the sol–gel titania poly-THF coated capillary was installed on an HPLC injection port as a sampling loop. Aqueous samples containing a variety of analytes were passed through the capillary and, during this process, the analytes were extracted by the sol–gel titania poly-THF coating on the inner surface of the capillary. Using isocratic and gradient elution with acetonitrile/water mobile phases, the extracted analytes were desorbed into the on-line coupled HPLC column for separation and UV detection. The sol–gel titania poly-THF coating was especially efficient in extracting polar analytes, such as underivatized phenols, alcohols, amines, and aromatic carboxylic acids. In addition, this coating was capable of extracting moderately polar and nonpolar analytes, such as ketones and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The sol–gel titania poly-THF coated capillary was also able to extract polypeptides at pH values near their respective isoelectric points. Extraction of these compounds can be important for environmental and biomedical applications. The observed extraction behavior can be attributed to the polar and nonpolar moieties in the poly-THF structure. This coating was found to be stable under extremely low and high pH conditions—even after 18 h of exposure to 1 M HCl (pH ≈0.0) and 1 M NaOH (pH ≈14.0).  相似文献
