The enhancement in a uniform electrostatic field at the tip of a spheroidal drop is shown to depend on the dielectric constant of the drop material, its initial radius, and the external electric field and to become greater as these increase. The loss of stability of a drop in an external electrostatic field that is accompanied by a very rapid growth in the magnitude of the spheroidal deformation causes a rapid, transient enhancement of the field at its tip. This article continues a previous study (Int. J. Quantum Chem. 114, 1645 (2014)) in which is presented a theory that discusses the possibility to induce a novel field – to be called molecular field – via the interaction of an external electro-magnetic (EM) field and a molecular system. Assuming the molecular system is made up of two coupled adiabatic states the theory leads from three time-space curl equations and one time-space divergence equation to a set of decoupled wave equations usually encountered for fields. In the present study, wave equations are derived for an external field having two features: (1) the field intensity is relatively high enough; (2) the duration of the interaction is short enough.

For this situation, the study reveals that the just mentioned interaction creates two fields that coexist within a molecule: one is just a scalar EM field essentially identical to the external EM field and the other, a vectorial field, produced by the non-adiabatic coupling terms. In addition, we mention that the wave velocities related to these two fields are identical to the wave velocity, c, of the external EM field.  相似文献

The effect of the external conjugate field on a weakly discontinuous first-order phase transition is analyzed within Landau theory. The third-degree term in the Ginzburg-Landau expansion is shown to preserve the phase transition for some external fields, in contrast with the second-order case. The free-energy expansion is shown to correspond to a second-order phase transition under the influence of an “effective” external field that depends on both the temperature and the real field. The case of the orientational phase transition in solid C70 is considered, and the transition thermoelastic phenomena caused by the coupling of order parameter with elastic strain are analyzed. It is shown that the uniaxial mechanical pressure along the direction of the 3-fold axis appears to be an external conjugate field for orientational ordering in crystalline C70. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. The high-frequency properties of a biaxial domain-containing bulk ferromagnet in an external magnetic field with a modulated amplitude are investigated on the basis of the Landau-Lifshitz equations. The components of the frequency-dependent magnetic susceptibility tensor and the dependence of the resonant frequency of the uniform pulsation modes of a stripe domain on the amplitude of the external magnetic field are determined. The distribution of the magnetic field in the unit cell of the Abrikosov vortex lattice near the surface of a uniaxial, anisotropic, type-II superconductor in an oblique external magnetic field is determined on the basis of the London model for the cases in which the symmetry axis is perpendicular and parallel to the boundary of the superconductor. The distribution of the local magnetic field is obtained as a function of the distance from the surface of the superconductor and the inclination angle of the external field. It is shown for an YBaCuO high-T c superconductor that the investigation of the distribution function of the local magnetic field as a function of the angle of the external magnetic field relative to the symmetry axis and to the surface of the superconductor can yield important information about the anisotropic properties of the superconductor. It is shown theoretically that application of an external electromagnetic field with specially selected frequencies in a dielectric containing impurity atoms allows a scintillation process of emission from impurity atoms to be activated which does not involve phonons. The process is similar to that in a conventional scintillator except that the field is completely controlled. The behavior of the emission process can change radically as the amplitude and frequency of the external field are varied, thus providing a means for wide-range control of such a “field scintillator.” Zh. éksp. We study the dynamics of 90-degree domain walls in the intermediate state of antiferromagnets, the state being realized in a first-order spin-flop transition in an external magnetic field. We show that an additional oscillating external magnetic field leads to a drift in the domain walls and find the dependence of the drift velocity on the amplitude, frequency, and polarization of the oscillating field. The quantum dynamics of the symmetry-broken λ(Φ 2)2 scalar-field theory in the presence of an homogeneous external field is investigated in the large-N limit. We consider an initial thermal state of temperature T for a constant external field J. A subsequent sign flip of the external field, J→ - J, gives rise to an out-of-equilibrium nonperturbative quantum field dynamics. We review here the dynamics for the symmetry-broken λ(Φ 2)2 scalar N component field theory in the large-N limit, with particular stress in the comparison between the results when the initial temperature is zero and when it is finite. The presence of a finite temperature modifies the dynamical effective potential for the expectation value, and also makes that the transition between the two regimes of the early dynamics occurs for lower values of the external field. The two regimes are characterized by the presence or absence of a temporal trapping close to the metastable equilibrium position of the potential. In the cases when the trapping occurs it is shorter for larger initial temperatures.  相似文献

Isolated Ni nanoparticles were studied in situ by atomic and magnetic force microscopy in the presence of an additional external field up to 300 Oe. By comparing topographic and magnetic images, and also by computer modeling of magnetic images, it was established that particles smaller than 100 nm are single-domain and easily undergo magnetic reversal in the direction of the applied external magnetic field. For large magnetic particles, the external magnetic field enhances the magnetization uniformity and the direction of total magnetization of these particles is determined by their shape anisotropy. Characteristics of the magnetic images and magnetic reversal of particles larger than 150 nm are attributed to the formation of a vortex magnetization structure in these particles. Fiz. Tverd. For the calculation of ε(k) via the correlation function of the bound charge density fluctuations or the ratio of the bound charge density to an external charge density, a generalized form of the fluctuation dissipation theorem is derived which accounts for different types of boundary conditions through a modified Green's function. It is demonstrated for the case of an interaction site model of water that it is possible to obtain consistent results for the non-local dielectric function with different types of boundary conditions. This is shown by calculating ε(k) both from the correlation function 〈ρb(kb(-k)〉 and from the dielectric response to an external electric field.  相似文献

We establish how trapped magnetic flux depends on the frequency and amplitude of an alternating field and how such a field affects the relaxation rate of the flux. We find that the nature of the flux creep changes in the process and that relaxation of the flux stops after the external field is switched off. We examine the dynamics of flux relaxation in a ring in the approximation in which the current density is assumed homogeneous, for various density dependences of the effective vortex activation energy. The critical current density and the vortex activation energy are obtained as functions of the external field strength. We explore the physical origin of the Brewster angle in the external and internal reflections associated with an anisotropic material. We obtain the expressions of the reflected fields and the existence condition of the Brewster angle by using the extinction theorem. It is found that the Brewster angle will occur if the total contribution of the material’s electric and magnetic dipoles to the reflected field becomes zero. In internal reflection, the requirements on the material parameters ε and μ for the Brewster angle are the same as those in external reflection, and the Brewster angle is just the refraction angle in external reflection at the incidence of the external Brewster angle. We consider the gradient-current instability of an inhomogeneous magnetoactive plasma in the approximation of double-fluid magnetohydrodynamics. Unlike the known gradient-drift and current-convective instabilities, the gradient-current instability is related to generation of nonpotential quasistatic electric fields polarized orthogonal to the external magnetic field B 0 and excited by eddy currents whose density vector lies in the plane passing through the vectors of the magnetic field B 0 and large-scale electron-density gradient. It is shown that in the high-latitude upper ionosphere, in the regions containing large-scale currents flowing in and out of the ionosphere along the magnetic field, the gradient-current instability can lead to the appearance of sheet-like irregularities extended predominantly in the plane passing through the geomagnetic-field and regular plasma-drift velocity vectors. __________ Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Radiofizika, Vol. 48, No. 7, pp. 574–587, August 2005.  相似文献

Small oscillations of the charge in a rectangular waveguide are considered. The electromagnetic field generated by these oscillations and its effect on the charge are investigated. It is found that at a certain frequency there is a self-consistent regime of oscillations wherein the charge oscillates under the influence of its self-field in the absence of external forces. The results of an experimental and theoretical investigation of strong turbulence produced by an external rf field in the plasma of a beam-plasma discharge are presented. The modulation instability of a rf electric field, perpendicular to a constant magnetic field, in the frequency range between the lower-hybrid and ionic Langmuir frequencies, has been investigated. We report the results of an experimental study of the external magnetic field of an antiferromagnetic Cr2O3 single-crystal. They confirm reliably that this field corresponds to a magnetic quadrupole field, as predicted by Dzyaloshinskii [Solid State Comm. 82, 570 (1992)] and observed by D. N. Astrov and N. B. The phenomenon whereby the thickness of the water film next to the inner surface of a hydrophilic capillary filled with two fluids increases in the presence of an external static electric field is investigated. A hypothesis of the essential nature of the phenomenon is submitted, along with a corresponding equation for calculating numerically the thickness variations as a function of several parameters of the working system, including the strength of the external field. Experimental results are given. The results of theoretical calculations and the experimental data are shown to be in good agreement.
