The theory of finite point symmetry transformations is revisited within the frame of the general theory of transformations of Lagrangian mechanics. The point symmetry groupG(L) of a given Lagrangian functionL (i.e., the Noether group) is thus obtained, and its main features are briefly discussed. The explicit calculation of the Noether group is presented for two rather simple c-equivalent Lagrangian systems. The formalism affords an introduction to the Noether theory of infinitesimal point symmetry transformations in Lagrangian mechanics; however, it is also of interest in its own right.  相似文献

The Hamilton formalism of cosmological models in fourth-order theories of gravity is considered. An approach to constructing the Hamilton function is presented which starts by replacing the second order derivatives of configuration space coordinates by functions depending on these coordinates, its first order derivatives, and additional variables playing the role of configuration space coordinates. This formalism, which does not resort to the Ostrogradski or Dirac formalism, is elucidated and applied to examples. For a special class of Lagrange functions, it is demonstrated that the canonical coordinates of the considered formalism and of the Ostrogradski formalism are related via a canonical transformation. The canonical transformation is a transformation of the configuration space coordinates and a transformation of momentum components induced by the transformation of the configuration space coordinates for a special element of the class of Lagrange functions mentioned. The Wheeler-DeWitt equations belonging to this Lagrange function are related via minisuperspace coordinate transformations.  相似文献

A superfield action for the relativistic massless superparticle as a spinning particle is presented in the new gauge. The symmetries in the relativistic superparticle theory, that is to say, the invariances under, the reparametrization and the local supersymmetry-transformation in the parameter space, are manifest in this formalism. It is clear how these two kinds of transformations descend from a unified origin to be called “super-reparametrization”, which is a restricted form of the general coordinate transformation in the superspace. The action is manifestly invariant under these transformation by its constructions The minimal coupling with electromagnetic field is also constructed in the superfield formalism, and a manifestly invariant superfield action for the interacting superparticle is presented in our gauge. The formalism is extended to the construction of an action for theN=2 superparticle.  相似文献

Super-gauge transformations on physical space-time are defined on the projective six-dimensional hypercone. The basic observation which motivates the present approach is that the product of any two super-gauges is a general conformal (+ γ5) transformation and indeed these latter transformations are simply realized on the six-dimensional hypercone. It turns out that also super-gauge transformations have a natural action on this projective space where the parameters of such transformations are (totally anticommuting) spinors which transform according to the fundamental (eight-dimensional) representation of the spinor group SU (2,2), isomorphic to the conformal group. The enlarged algebra of super-gauges, conformal and chiral transformations and its most relevant representations are discussed in the present formalism.  相似文献

In this paper we first study the equivalence transformations of class C2, regular, tensorial, quasi-linear systems of field equations which (a) preserve the continuity, regularity, and quasi-linear structure of the systems; and (b) occur within a fixed system of Minkowski coordinates and field components. We identify, among the transformations of this class, those which either induce or preserve a self-adjoint structure of the field equations and we term them genotopic and isotopic transformations, respectively. We then give the necessary and sufficient conditions for an equivalence transformation of the above type to be either genotopic or isotopic. By using this methodology, we then extend the theorem on the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of ordered direct analytic representations introduced in the preceding paper to the case of ordered indirect analytic representations in terms of the conventional Lagrange equations; we introduce a method for the construction of a Lagrangian, when it exists, in this broader context; and we explore some implications of the underlying methodology for the problem of the structure of the Lagrangian capable of representing interactions within the framework of the indirect analytic representations. Some of the several aspects which demand an inspection prior to the use of this analytic approach in actual models are pointed out. In particular, we indicate a possible deep impact in the symmetries and conservation laws of the system generated by the use of the concept of indirect analytic representation. As a preparatory step prior to the analysis of these problems, we study some methodological aspects which underlie the generalized Lagrange equations postulated in the first paper of this series for the case when they are regular, namely, when they are simple equivalence transformations of the conventional Lagrange equations. We first introduce a generalization of the action principle capable of inducing the generalized as well as the conventional equations. In this way we establish that the former equations are “bona fide” analytic equations. Finally, as our most general analytic framework for the case of unconstrained field equations, we work out the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of ordered direct analytic representations of quasi-linear systems in terms of the generalized analytic equations and study their relationship to the conventional representations.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with generalizations of the known local Lagrange formalism of first order. It will be applied to kinetic equations like the Fokker-Planck equation and the Boltzmann equation. In the latter case nonlocal methods are necessary from the very beginning. Nevertheless, in the framework of Fréchet's formalism the calculations are as easy as in the classical local case.Furthermore, a rather general entropy concept can be established within nonlocal Lagrange formalism for irreversible systems. As a main result of this paper we derive within our general concept the known entropy balances of the Boltzmann theory and the Fokker-Planck theory, respectively. It will be emphasized that our general concept may be applied to a very wide class of irreversible systems, in principle.  相似文献

In this paper, we construct a unified covariant formalism for the classical gauge fields in an equiaffine space. The gauge transformation groups are the Lie groups, induced according to the third Lie theorem by the structure constants. As a result of the gauge transformations, one set of geometric objects is replaced by another. It is confirmed that the differential conservation laws in the equiaffine spaces are a result of the equations of the gauge fields. The particular case when the gauge transformation group is a four-parameter group and is abelian is distinguished. This group corresponds to gauge fields that are induced by an energy-momentum tensor and, which, as a result, are called gravitational fields. As a particular case of the equations of the given gravitational fields, we obtain Einstein's equations with the help of a Lagrangian, which is quadratic with respect to the gravitational field intensities. In concluding, we note the possibility of describing gauge fields, corresponding to nongravitational interactions of vector mesons with nonzero rest mass, without invoking the scalar Higgs mesons. This possibility appears both as a result of the generalization of the Yang-Mills covariant derivative and as a result of including gravitational interactions in the general gauge field formalism.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshykh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 12, 47–51, December, 1981.  相似文献

For a Lagrangian system with the action of small disturbance, the Lie symmetrical perturbation and a new type of non-Noether adiabatic invariant are presented in general infinitesimal transformation groups. On the basis of the invariance of disturbed Lagrangian systems under general infinitesimal transformations, the determining equations of Lie symmetries of the system are constructed. Based on the definition of higher-order adiabatic invariants of a mechanical system, a new type of adiabatic invariant, i.e. generalized Lutzky adiabatic invariants, of a disturbed Lagrangian system are obtained by investigating the perturbation of Lie symmetries t'or a Lagrangian system with the action of small disturbance. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the application of the method and results.  相似文献

We study the action for the three-space formalism of general relativity, better known as the Barbour–Foster–Ó Murchadha action, which is a square-root Baierlein–Sharp–Wheeler action. In particular, we explore the (pre)symplectic structure by pulling it back via a Legendre map to the tangent bundle of the configuration space of this action. With it we attain the canonical Lagrangian vector field which generates the gauge transformations (3-diffeomorphisms) and the true physical evolution of the system. This vector field encapsulates all the dynamics of the system. We also discuss briefly the observables and perennials for this theory. We then present a symplectic reduction of the constrained phase space.  相似文献

Based on the phase-space generating functional of the Green function for a system with a regular/singular higher-order Lagrangian, the quantum canonical Noether identities (NIs) under a local and non-local transformation in phase space have been deduced, respectively. For a singular higher-order Lagrangian, one must use an effective canonical action IeffP in quantum canonical NIs instead of the classical IP in classical canonical NIs. The quantum NIs under a local and non-local transformation in configuration space for a gauge-invariant system with a higher-order Lagrangian have also been derived. The above results hold true whether or not the Jacobian of the transformation is equal to unity or not. It has been pointed out that in certain cases the quantum NIs may be converted to conservation laws at the quantum level. This algorithm to derive the quantum conservation laws is significantly different from the quantum first Noether theorem. The applications of our formulation to the Yang-Mills fields and non-Abelian Chern-Simons (CS) theories with higher-order derivatives are given, and the conserved quantities at the quantum level for local and non-local transformations are found, respectively.Received: 12 February 2002, Revised: 16 June 2003, Published online: 25 August 2003Z.-P. Abstract

The transition from Eulerian to Lagrangian coordinates is a nonlocal transformation. In general, isomorphism should not take place between basic Lie groups of studied equations. Besides, in the case of plane and rotational symmetric motion hydrodynamic equations in Lagrangian coordinates are partially integrated. This fact introduces arbitrary functions, initial data, to the resulting systems and makes cuurently central the problem of group classification. It is stated that under a transition to Lagrangian coordinates, the main group becomes infinite–dimensional as well in space coordinates. The exclusive values of arbitrary functions of Lagrange coordinates (vorticity, momentum), at which the further group widening takes place, are found in [1].  相似文献

In a new approach to supergravity we consider the gauge theory of the 14-dimensional supersymmetry group. The theory is constructed from 14×4 gauge fields, 4 gauge fields being associated with each of the 14 generators of supersymmetry. The gauge fields corresponding to the 10 generators of the Poincaré subgroup are those normally associated with general relativity, and the gauge fields corresponding to the 4 generators of supersymmetry transformations are identified with a Rarita-Schwinger spinor. The transformation laws of the gauge fields and the Lagrangian of lowest degree are uniquely constructed from the supersymmetry algebra. The resulting action is shown to be invariant under these gauge transformations if the translation associated field strength vanishes. It is shown that the second-order form of the action, which is the same as that previously proposed, is invariant without constraint.  相似文献

We demonstrate the existence of the nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetry transformations for the four (3+1)-dimensional (4D) topologically massive Abelian U(1) gauge theory that is described by the coupled Lagrangian densities (which incorporate the celebrated (BF) term). The absolute anticommutativity of the (anti-) BRST symmetry transformations is ensured by the existence of a Curci–Ferrari type restriction that emerges from the superfield formalism as well as from the equations of motion which are derived from the above coupled Lagrangian densities. We show the invariance of the action from the point of view of the symmetry considerations as well as superfield formulation. We discuss, furthermore, the topological term within the framework of superfield formalism and provide the geometrical meaning of its invariance under the (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations.  相似文献

A discrete version of Lagrangian reduction is developed within the context of discrete time Lagrangian systems on G × G, where G is a Lie group. We consider the case when the Lagrange function is invariant with respect to the action of an isotropy subgroup of a fixed element in the representation space of G. Within this context, the reduction of the discrete Euler–Lagrange equations is shown to lead to the so-called discrete Euler–Poincaré equations. A constrained variational principle is derived. The Legendre transformation of the discrete Euler–Poincaré equations leads to discrete Hamiltonian (Lie–Poisson) systems on a dual space to a semiproduct Lie algebra.  相似文献

Spatially homogeneous perfect fluid spacetimes are studied from a point of view which emphasizes the spatial geometry and the action of that subgroup of the spatial gauge group of the three-plus-one formulation of general relativity which is compatible with the spatial homogeneity. The specializations of the dynamics which correspond to the existence of additional spacetime symmetries are classified. An unconstrained set of gravitational and fluid variables is obtained by elimination of the gravitational constraints using an approach which obtains the gravitational evolution equations from a suitably modified Lagrangian/Hamiltonian formalism. A slightly different choice of variables is then described which allows one to take full advantage of the spatial gauge group and of the 1-parameter group of scale transformations of the unit of length.  相似文献

The canonical quantization formalism is applied to the Lagrange density of chromodynamics, which includes gauge fixing and Faddeev-Popov ghost terms in a general covariant gauge. We develop the quantum theory of the interacting fields in the Dirac picture, based on the Gell-Mann and Low theorem and the Dyson expansion of the time evolution operator. The physical states are characterized by their invariance under Becchi-Rouet-Stora transformations. Subsequently, confinement is introduced phenomenologically by imposing, on the quark, gluon, and ghost field operators, the linear boundary conditions of the MIT bag model at the surface of a spherically symmetric and static cavity. Based on this formalism, we calculate, in the Feynman gauge, all nondivergent Feynman diagrams of second order in the strong coupling constantg. Explicit values of the matrix elements are given for low-lying quark and gluon cavity modes.  相似文献

Starting from the transformation properties of an action integral of a system under local and nonlocal transformations, we derive the generalized Noether identities for a variant system under those transformations. The applications of the theory to the Yang-Mills field with higher order Lagrangian is presented under the Coulomb gauge condition, a new conserved PBRS charge is found which differs from the BRS conserved charge, and another conserved charge connected with nonlocal transformation is also obtained.  相似文献

In this paper we identify some of the most significant references on the inverse problem of the calculus of variations for single integrals and initiate the study of the generalization of the underlying methodology to classical field theories. We first classify Lorentz-covariant tensorial field equations into nonlinear, quasi-linear, and semilinear forms, and then introduce their systems of equations of variation and adjoint systems. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the self-adjointness of class C2, regular, tensorial, nonlinear, quasi-linear and semilinear forms are worked out. We study the Lagrange equations, their system of equations of variations (Jacobi equations) and their adjoint system by proving that, for class C4 and regular Lagrangian densities, they are always self-adjoint. We then introduce a concept of analytic representation which occurs when the Lagrange equations coincide with the field equations up to equivalence transformations and refine the definition by particularizing it as direct or indirect and ordered or nonordered. Some of the conventional cases of tensorial fields are considered and we prove, in particular, that the conventional representation of the complex scalar field in interaction with the electromagnetic field is of the ordered indirect type. For the objective of identifying our program we recall the two classes of equivalence transformations of the Lagrangian densities which are primarily used nowadays, namely, the Lorentz (coordinate) transformations and the gauge transformations (transformations of fields within a fixed coordinate system), and postulate the existence of a third class, which we term isotopic transformations of the Lagrangian density and which consist of equivalence transformations within a fixed coordinate system and gauge. We finally outline the objectives of our program, which essentially consist of the identification of the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a Lagrangian in field theories and their first application to the transformation theory within the framework of our variational approach to self-adjointness.  相似文献

The Lagrangian field-antifield formalism of Batalin and Vilkovisky (BV) is used to investigate the application of the collective coordinate method to soliton quantisation. In field theories with soliton solutions, the Gaussian fluctuation operator has zero modes due to the breakdown of global symmetries of the Lagrangian in the soliton solutions. It is shown how Noether identities and local symmetries of the Lagrangian arise when collective coordinates are introduced in order to avoid divergences related to these zero modes. This transformation to collective and fluctuation degrees of freedom is interpreted as a canonical transformation in the symplectic field-antifield space which induces a time-local gauge symmetry. Separating the corresponding Lagrangian path integral of the BV scheme in lowest order into harmonic quantum fluctuations and a free motion of the collective coordinate with the classical mass of the soliton, we show how the BV approach clarifies the relation between zero modes, collective coordinates, gauge invariance and the center-of-mass motion of classical solutions in quantum fields. Finally, we apply the procedure to the reduced nonlinear O(3) σ-model.  相似文献
