Activated carbon (AC) derived from gasified Glyricidia sepium woodchip (GGSWAC) was prepared using KOH and CO2 activation via microwave radiation technique to remove atenolol (ATN) from aqueous solution. The surface area (SBET) and total pore volume (TPV) of GGSWAC were 483.07 m2/g and 0.255 cm3, respectively. The n-BET model fits well with the isothermal data indicating a multilayer adsorption with the saturation capacity of 121, 143 and 163 mg/g at 30, 45 and 60 °C, respectively. The kinetic study showed that ATN adsorption followed Avrami model equation (R2  0.99). Based on the thermodynamic parameters, the adsorption of ATN onto GGSWAC was endothermic (ΔHS = 234.17 kJ/mol) in the first layer of adsorption and exothermic in the subsequent layer (ΔHL = −165.62 kJ/mol). The ATN adsorption was controlled by both diffusion and chemisorption. In continuous operation, the Thomas (R2 = 0.9822) and Yoon–Nelson (R2 = 0.9817) models successfully predicted the ATN adsorption.  相似文献

Present study deals with the adsorption of phenol on carbon rich bagasse fly ash (BFA) and activated carbon-commercial grade (ACC) and laboratory grade (ACL). BFA is a solid waste obtained from the particulate collection equipment attached to the flue gas line of the bagasse-fired boilers of cane sugar mills. Batch studies were performed to evaluate the influences of various experimental parameters like initial pH (pH0), contact time, adsorbent dose and initial concentration (C0) on the removal of phenol. C0 varied from 75 to 300 mg/l for the adsorption isotherm studies and the effect of temperature on adsorption. Optimum conditions for phenol removal were found to be pH0  6.5, adsorbent dose ≈10 g/l of solution and equilibrium time ≈5 h. Adsorption of phenol followed pseudo-second order kinetics with the initial sorption rate for adsorption on ACL being the highest followed by those on BFA and ACC. The effective diffusion coefficient of phenol is of the order of 10−10 m2/s. Equilibrium isotherms for the adsorption of phenol on BFA, ACC and ACL were analysed by Freundlich, Langmuir, Temkin, Redlich–Peterson, Radke–Prausnitz and Toth isotherm models using non-linear regression technique. Redlich–Peterson isotherm was found to best represent the data for phenol adsorption on all the adsorbents. The change in entropy (ΔS°) and heat of adsorption (ΔH°) for phenol adsorption on BFA were estimated as 1.8 MJ/kg K and 0.5 MJ/kg, respectively. The high negative value of change in Gibbs free energy (ΔG°) indicates the feasible and spontaneous adsorption of phenol on BFA. The values of isosteric heat of adsorption varied with the surface loading of phenol.  相似文献

In this study, high surface area activated carbon (AC) was prepared from a local palm tree (Phoenix Dactylifera) using a variety of metal carbonates activators and finally achieved an excellent SBET of 2700 m2/g when Cs2CO3 was used as an activating agent at a temperature of 600 °C. Surface modification of AC was carried out using various nitrogen transporting agents, resulting in N-doped ACs with nitrogen content varying from 4.0 to 11.4 %, depending on the functionalizing agents and activators used. The bimodal (presence of micro- as well as meso-porosity) ACs with such excellent surface properties were studied for their CO2 uptake capacity at two different temperatures (0 and 25 °C) by isotherms recorded at pressure 1 bar and showed a remarkable uptake ability of 3.52 mmol/g (at 25 °C) and 5.6 mmol/g (at 0 °C), respectively. Also, batch experiments with variable pH, contact time, adsorbate concentrations, adsorbent dose, and temperatures were evaluated to understand the mechanism of sorption phenomena of Cr(VI) and Pb(II) achieving > 99.9 % removal capacity by the prepared ACs. Depending on the heavy metal ions being investigated, it was revealed that the pH of the solution and the amount of adsorbent had a direct impact on the total adsorption ability. Nitrogen atoms doped into the carbon frameworks were found to enhance the adsorption in the case of Pb(II) while the removal of Cr(VI) appeared to be unaffected. Maximum adsorption for Cr(VI) was observed at pH 2 and was determined to follow Freundlich isotherm while that of Pb(II) was observed at pH 7 and follows Langmuir isotherm. Best adsorption was found at an adsorbate concentration of 10 ppm and an adsorbent dose of 10 g/L. Kinetic modeling parameters showed the applicability of pseudo-second-order model perfectly.  相似文献

In this work, ionic liquid modified Fe3O4@dopamine/graphene oxide/β-cyclodextrin (ILs-Fe3O4@DA/GO/β-CD) was used as supporting material to synthesize surface molecularly imprinted polymer (SMIP) which then was introduced into chemiluminescence (CL) to achieve an ultrasensitive and selective biosensor for determination of lysozyme (Lys). ILs and β-CD was applied to provide multiple binding sites to prepare Lys SMIP and Fe3O4@DA was designed to make the product separate easily and prevent the aggregation of GO which could improve absorption capacity for its large specific surface area. The ILs-Fe3O4@DA/GO/β-CD-SMIP showed high adsorption capacity (Q = 101 mg/g) to Lys in the adsorption isotherm assays. The adsorption equilibrium was reached within 10 min for all the concentrations, attributing to the binding sites situated exclusively at the surface, and the adsorption model followed Langmuir isotherm. Under the suitable CL conditions, the proposed biosensor could response Lys linearly in the range of 1.0 × 10−9–8.0 × 10−8 mg/mL with a detection limit of 3.0 × 10−10 mg/mL. When used in practical samples in determination of Lys, the efficient biosensor exhibited excellent result with the recoveries ranging from 94% to 112%.  相似文献

Remazol brilliant blue R dye (RBBR) brings toxicity to living organisms once it enters the environment. This study utilized response surface methodology (RSM) and Polymath software for optimization and mass transfer simulation purposes, respectively. RSM revealed that the optimum preparation conditions of meranti wood-based activated carbon (MWAC) were 441 W, 5.76 min, and 1.35 g/g for radiation power, radiation time, and KOH:char impregnation ratio (IR), respectively, which translated into 86.39 mg/g of RBBR uptakes and 31.94 % of MWAC’s yield. The simulation study predicted the mass transfer rate, rm to be 112.20 to 1007.50 s?1 and the adsorption rate, k1 to be 3.96 to 4.34 h?1. The developed model predicted the adsorption surface area, am to be 790.04 m2/g and this value is highly accurate as compared to the actual mesopores surface area of 825.58 m2/g. Mechanism analysis divulged that the interaction that occurred between RBBR molecules and MWAC’s surface were hydrogen bond (methylene and alkyne), dipole–dipole force (alkyl carbonate, terminal alkyne, and methoxy), and ion–dipole force (primary amine). The isotherm and kinetic studies found that the adsorption data obeyed the Freundlich model and pseudo-first-order (PFO) model the best, respectively. The Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity, Qm was computed to be 327.33 mg/g. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated to be ?4.06 kJ mol?1, 0.06 kJ mol?1 K?1, –22.69 kJ mol?1, and 16.03 kJ mol?1 for ΔH°, ΔS°, ΔG°, and Ea, respectively, which signified the adsorption process studied was exothermic, spontaneous and governed by physisorption.  相似文献

The removal of nitrate ions with ethylenediamine (EDA)-functionalized activated carbon (AC-NH2) was studied in this work. Activated carbon prepared from Cucumerupsi manni Naudin seed shells using ZnCl2 (ACZ) was functionalized with EDA via a nitric acid oxidation followed by acyl chlorination and amidation process. The effect of pH, contact time, initial concentration and co-existing ions on the adsorption of nitrate ions have been investigated. The FTIR and elemental analysis revealed that amino groups were successfully grafted onto the ACZ after functionalization. The surface area and average pore of ACZ were found to be 1008.99 m2/g and 2.02 nm respectively. However, it was noticed that, after functionalization (AC-NH2), its surface area decreases to 113.43 m2/g meanwhile, its pore diameter increases to 2.48 nm. The experimental results of adsorption showed that AC-NH2 exhibit excellent nitrate ions uptake performance compared to ACZ which is attributed to the presence of the grafted amino groups on the ACZ. Nitrate adsorption follows pseudo-first-order kinetic model while the equilibrium adsorption data was best fitted the Freundlich isotherm suggesting that the adsorption process was predominated by physisorption. This study demonstrates that the prepared AC-NH2 is a promising adsorbent for nitrate ions removal from aqueous media.  相似文献

The first example of triphenylene-modified chitosan 4 was prepared by reacting chitosan with triphenylene aldehyde derivative 3. Its structure and morphology was characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR, FTIR, XRD, SEM and AFM image. The triphenylene units in Tp-chitosan 4 appended on the skeleton of chitosan and possessed orderly layered structure. Adsorption experiments of Tp-chitosan 4 indicated that it possessed excellent adsorption capacities for both cationic and anionic dyes [Orange G sodium salt, Brilliant ponceau 5R, Victoria blue B (VB), Crystal violet (CV), Neutral red (NR) and Methylene blue]. The highest adsorption capacities for CV, VB and NR were 5.612, 5.353 and 5.375 mmol/g, respectively. Adsorption kinetics and isotherms analysis showed that the adsorption processes obeyed pseudo second-order model and the Langmuir isotherm equation. The adsorption processes were exothermic and spontaneous. The best pH values for adsorption were pH = 6–8.  相似文献

This study evaluates the adsorption of diazinon from aqueous solutions onto coconut shell-modified biochar using a batch system. The amount of dosage and initial pH are the main parameters being studied to obtain maximum adsorption capacity of the probe molecules. The carbonized coconut shell biochar (BC1), activated coconut shell biochar (BC2), chemically modified phosphoric acid (BC3) and sodium hydroxide coconut shell biochar (BC4) were prepared and tested as variables in the adsorption experiment. The characteristic of biochar via SEM, EDX and BET analysis revealed the large porous of surface morphology and slight changes in the composition with high surface area (405.97 – 508.07 m2/g) by following the sequence of BC3 > BC2 > BC4. Diazinon removal percentage as high as 98.96% was achieved at pH 7 with BC3 as adsorbent dosing at 5.0 g/L. The high coefficient of determination, R2 with a small value of ERRSQ and χ2 error analysis present the BC1 (0.9971) and BC2 (0.9999) are best fitted with Freundlich isotherm indicates multilayer sorption onto heterogeneous surface whereby the Langmuir isotherm model is the best fitting is described of monolayer adsorption process onto the homogenous surface of BC3 and BC4. The results indicated the maximum adsorption capacity (qm) was achieved by BC3 with 10.33 mg/g, followed by BC2 (9.65 mg/g) in accordance to the Langmuir isotherm while Freundlich isotherm showed the highest adsorption capacity (kF) with 1.73 mg/g (L/mg)1/n followed by BC4 with 0.63 mg/g (L/mg)1/n at favorable adsorption isotherm (1 ≤ n ≤ 10). Thus, the results obtained depicted that BC2 and BC3 are highly efficient adsorbents and both exhibit great potential in removing diazinon from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

A novel composite adsorbent, silica aerogel activated carbon was synthesized by sol-gel process at ambient pressure drying method. The composite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms (BET).In the present study, the mentioned adsorbent was used moderately for the removal of cadmium ions from aqueous solutions and was compared with two other adsorbents of cadmium, activated carbon and silica aerogel. The experiments of Cd adsorption by adsorbents were performed at different initial ion concentrations, pH of the solution, adsorption temperature, adsorbent dosage and contact time. Moreover, the optimum pH for the adsorption was found to be 6.0 with the corresponding adsorbent dosage level of 0.1 g at 60 °C temperature. Subsequently, the equilibrium was achieved for Cd with 120 min of contact time.Consequently, the results show that using this composite adsorbent could remove more than 60% of Cd under optimum experimental conditions. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm model was applied to analyze the data, in which the adsorption equilibrium data were correlated well with the Freundlich isotherm model and the equilibrium adsorption capacity (qe) was found to be 0.384 mg/g in the 3 mg/L solution of cadmium.  相似文献

This study assesses the performance of optimized acacia wood-based activated carbon (AWAC) as an adsorbent for methylene blue (MB) dye removal in aqueous solution. AWAC was prepared via a physicochemical activation process that consists of potassium hydroxide (KOH) treatment, followed by carbon dioxide (CO2) gasification under microwave heating. By using response surface methodology (RSM), the optimum preparation conditions of radiation power, radiation time, and KOH-impregnation ratio (IR) were determined to be 360 W, 4.50 min, and 0.90 g/g respectively, which resulted in 81.20 mg/g of MB dye removal and 27.96% of AWAC’s yield. Radiation power and IR had a major effect on MB dye removal while radiation power and radiation time caused the greatest impact on AWAC’s yield. BET surface area, mesopore surface area, and pore volume of optimized AWAC were found to be 1045.56 m2/g, 689.77 m2/g, and 0.54 cm3/g, respectively. Adsorption of MB onto AWAC followed Langmuir and pseudo-second order for isotherm and kinetic studies respectively, with a Langmuir monolayer adsorption capacity of 338.29 mg/g. Mechanism studies revealed that the adsorption process was controlled by film diffusion mechanism and indicated to be thermodynamically exothermic in nature.  相似文献

The abundance of gasification char residues which contributed to solid waste management problem is one of the major concerns in biomass gasification industry. This study focuses on synthesizing gasified Glyricidia sepium woodchip based activated carbon (GGSWAC) for the removal of basic green 4 (BG4) dye, evaluating the GGSWAC physicochemical properties and assessing the BG4 adsorption performance in batch and fixed-bed column systems. The optimal conditions of GGSWAC synthesis were at radiation power, time, and impregnation ratio (IR) of 616 W, 1 min and 1.93 g/g, respectively. The surface area (SBET) and total pore volume (TPV) of GGSWAC were 633.30 m2/g and 0.34 cm3/g, respectively. The Fritz–Schlünder best fitted to the experimental data at all temperatures in the isothermal studies, indicating a monolayer adsorption. The kinetic study showed that BG4 adsorption followed Avrami kinetic model. Based on thermodynamic parameters, the adsorption of BG4 dye onto GGSWAC was an endothermic and spontaneous process. In continuous operation, the Thomas and Yoon–Nelson models successfully predicted BG4 adsorption onto GGSWAC. The low production cost of 0.54 USD/kg showed that GGSWAC is economically feasible for commercialization.  相似文献

Fish scale of the species Leporinus elongatus was tested as an adsorbent for anionic Remazol dyes. Characterization has suggested that hydroxyl, phosphate, amides I, II, and III, and carbonate groups are the potential sites of adsorption. From solution calorimetry, values of thermal effects, Q int, and amount of dye that interacts, n int, were determined. The adsorption order observed was Yellow-dye/scale?>?Red-dye/scale?>?Blue-dye/scale. The Q int and n int data were successfully adjusted to the Langmuir isotherm model. The dyes removals by fish scale are exothermic processes (from ?83 to ?199?kJ?mol?1) with negative entropies and are thermodynamically spontaneous. The thermodynamic results suggest that the interactions at scale/anionic dye interfaces occur mainly by surface reactions. It was finding that fish scale is a new and suitable sorbent material for recovery and biosorption/adsorption of anionic dyes from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Fe/Zr-base metal–organic frameworks(Fe/Zr-MOFs) were prepared using a solvothermal method from 1,3,5-phthalic acid (H3BTC, 98 %) as the organic chain and ferrous heptahydrate (FeSO4·7H2O) and zirconium acetate Zr(CH3COO)4] as the metal ions. The resulting material was used to remove Doxycycline hydrochloride (DC). The experimental results showed that when the concentration of DC was 10 ppm and the mass of Zr/Fe-MOFs was 100 mg, the maximum removal rate after 5 h was 87.5 %. The results showed that the correlation coefficients (R2) of the pseudo-second-order kinetics model and Freundlich isotherm model of Zr/Fe-MOFs adsorption of DC were greater than 0.99, indicating good consistency. The results showed that the adsorption process of DC by Zr/Fe-MOFs was endothermic and spontaneous. Fe/Zr-MOFs had a high adsorption capacity for DC removal and good application prospects.  相似文献

In the current research, the sorption of caffeine on fresh and calcined Cu–Al layered double hydroxide was comparatively studied based on adsorption parameters, adsorption kinetics, and adsorption isotherm. Response surface methodology (RSM), support vector machine (SVM) and artificial neural network (ANN), as data mining methods, were applied to develop models by considering various operating variables. Different characterization methods were exploited to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics of HDL in order to acquire a thorough understanding of its structural and functional features. The Langmuir model was employed to accurately describe the maximum monolayer adsorption capacity for calcined sample (qmax) of 152.99 mg/g mg/g with R2 = 0.9977. The pseudo-second order model precisely described the adsorption phenomenon (R2 = 0.999). The thermodynamic analysis also reveals a favorable and spontaneous process. The ANN model predicts adsorption efficiency result with R2 = 0.989. The five-fold cross-validation was achieved to evaluate the validity of the SVM. The predication results revealed approximately 99.9% accuracy for test datasets and 99.63% accuracy for experiment data. Moreover, ANOVA analysis employing the central composite design-response surface methodology (CCD-RSM) indicated a good agreement between the quadratic equation predictions and the experimental data, which results in R2 of 0.9868 and the highest removal percentages in optimized step were obtained for RSM (pH 5.05, mass of adsorbent 20 mg, time of 72 min, and caffeine concentrations of 22 mg/L). On the whole, the findings confirm that the proposed machine learning models provided reliable and robust computer methods for monitoring and simulating the adsorption of pollutants from aqueous solutions by Cu–Al–LDH.  相似文献

Herein, for the first time mesostructured 3D self-assembled β-Ni(OH)2 clusters with high surface area, large pore size, and uniform flower-like morphology have been synthesized by implementing a novel microwave heating method, using glycine as the cappant. The β-Ni(OH)2 clusters are subjected to aqueous phase pollutant adsorption for multiple anionic dyes [congo red (CR), acid fuchsin (AF) and acid red 27 (AR-27)], and heavy metal ions [divalent lead ion, Pb(II) and divalent cadmium ion, Cd(II)]. The comprehensive kinetic analyses show that the adsorption of dyes and metal ions on the β-Ni(OH)2 cluster surface occurs by chemisorption (pseudo-second order kinetics) and intraparticle diffusion (film and pore diffusion) processes. Further, the β-Ni(OH)2 clusters show excellent equilibrium adsorption capacity for all the anionic dyes and metal ions. The equilibrium isotherm data show homogenous distribution of CR and AF dyes, and heterogeneous distribution of AR-27 dye on the β-Ni(OH)2 surface. The excellent adsorption efficiency is attributed to the microwave-induced highly hydroxylated rippled 2D surface, open pore architecture, and suitable pore distribution of the β-Ni(OH)2 clusters, which collectively cause strong hydrogen bonding between the cluster surface and anionic dyes as well as metal ions.  相似文献

Mesoporous magnesium oxide–graphene oxide composite (MGC) has been synthesized using a facile post-immobilization method by mixing pre-synthesized magnesium oxide (MgO) with graphene oxide (GO). MgO used for fabrication of the composite has been synthesized using an environment-friendly method involving gelatin as a template. XRD, Raman and EDX analyses have confirmed the presence of MgO and GO in the composite. FTIR and SEM analyses of synthesized MGC have further elucidated the surface functionalities and morphology, respectively. Using N2 adsorption–desorption isotherm, BET surface area of MGC has been calculated to be 55.9 m2 g?1 and BJH analysis confirmed the mesoporous nature of MGC. The application of synthesized MGC as a selective adsorbent for various toxic anionic dyes has been explored. Batch adsorption studies have been carried out to investigate the influence of different adsorption parameters on the adsorption of two anionic dyes: indigo carmine (IC) and orange G (OG). The maximum adsorption capacities exhibited by MGC for IC and OG are 252.4 and 24.5 mg g?1, respectively. Plausible mechanism of dye adsorption has been explained in detail using FTIR analysis. In a mixture of cationic and anionic dyes, MGC selectively adsorbs anionic dyes with high separation factors, while in binary mixtures of anionic dyes, both dyes are adsorbed efficiently. Thus, MGC has been shown to be a potential adsorbent for the selective removal of anionic dyes from wastewater.

This study reports the synthesis of mesoporous metal-modified nitrogen doped activated carbon (AC-N-Mo) from date seeds by ZnCl2 activation and its applicability for selective adsorptive desulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT). The AC-N-Mo exhibits higher adsorption capacity for DBT at 100 mg-S/L with the maximum removal percentage of 99.7 % corresponding to 19.94 mg-S/g at room temperature than the unmodified carbon with 17.96 mg-S/g despite its highest surface area and pore volume of 1027 m2g?1 and 0.55 cm3g?1 respectively. The adsorption capacity breakthrough follows the order AC-N-Mo > AC-Mo > AC > AC-N. Also, AC-N-Mo displays excellent selectivity in the presence of aromatics (toluene, naphthalene, and 1-methylisoquinoline). The enhancement in the DBT uptake capacities of AC-N-Mo is attributed to the synergistic effect of nitrogen heteroatom that aids the dispersion of molybdenum nanoparticles on carbon surface thereby improving its surface chemistry and promising textural characteristics. The kinetic studies showed that the DBT adsorption proceeds via pseudo-second order kinetics while the isotherm revealed that Langmuir fit the data more accurately for the adsorbents. The physical properties (surface area, pore volume, particle size, etc.) and chemical properties (carbon content, etc.) of as-prepared adsorbents namely; AC, AC-N, AC-N-Mo, and AC-Mo were characterized by N2– physisorption, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Electron Spectroscopy/Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), Raman Spectroscopy (RS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Ammonia-Temperature-Programmed Desorption (NH3-TPD).  相似文献

In current investigation, we synthesized new Polyaniline-Averraoha Bilimbi Leaves Activated Carbon (PANI-ABLC) nanocomposites and utilized as cost effectual for the elimination of Cd2+ and Pb2+ ions from the wastewater. The synthesized nanocomposite was confirmed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX), Fourier Transform-Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffraction (X-RD) techniques. A batch adsorption study carried in wastewater containing different concentrations of Cd2+ and Pb2+ ions in the temperature range of 303–343 K. The results show that, around 80% of Cd2+ and Pb2+ ions from the wastewater was successfully isolated by using PANI-ABLC nanocomposite. Attempts were made to fit adsorption to different isotherm models. The PANI-ABLC nanocomposite complied Langmuir adsorption model (R2 = 0.999) and pseudo-second order kinetics. Further, maximum adsorption efficiency observed at 0.5 g of Polyaniline-Averraoha bilimbi leaves activated carbon nanocomposites. AC- Impedance Spectroscopy (IS) technique shows that, Polyaniline-Averraoha Bilimbi Leaves Activated Carbon (PANI-ABLC) nanocomposite is suitable for removal of Cd2+ and Pb2+ ions from the wastewater. AC impedance spectroscopy technique study shows that, the process of adsorption was controlled by charge transfer process.  相似文献

Different types of activated carbons were prepared by changing the activation temperatures (400–700 °C) and impregnation ratio (sewage sludge: KOH; 1:1, 1:2) and the removal of Sr+2 from aqueous solution was determined. The maximum adsorption yield (12.11 mg/g) was obtained at 500 °C for 1 h carbonization conditions with impregnation ratio of 1:1. The affecting parameters were analyzed by using central composite design method. The selected parameters were initial pH, temperature, initial strontium concentration and carbon dosage. The analysis of variance was performed in 95% confidence level and checked to fitting of experimental value and predicted value. The significant F was P < 0.05 with a model F value of 19.94 which revealed that this regression is statistically significant. The results of regression analysis indicated that pH and temperature parameters were not individually statistically significant for Sr+2sorption. However, the efficiency of strontium sorption increases with the increase in carbon dosage and decreases with the Sr+2 concentration. Influences of initial pH and temperature, pH and Sr+2 concentration, temperature and carbon dosage and Sr+2 concentration and carbon dosage on the adsorption process were considered statistically significant. Adsorption of strontium was described by Freundlich isotherm as a physical adsorption (E = 7.2 kJ/mol). The adsorption reactions were calculated as endothermic, spontaneous and favorable reactions.  相似文献
