In the present study, the geometrically non-linear dynamics of an axially moving plate is examined by constructing the bifurcation diagrams of Poincaré maps for the system in the sub and supercritical regimes. The von Kármán plate theory is employed to model the system by retaining in-plane displacements and inertia. The governing equations of motion of this gyroscopic system are obtained based on an energy method by means of the Lagrange equations which yields a set of second-order non-linear ordinary differential equations with coupled terms. A change of variables is employed to transform this set into a set of first-order non-linear ordinary differential equations. The resulting equations are solved using direct time integration, yielding time-varying generalized coordinates for the in-plane and out-of-plane motions. From these time histories, the bifurcation diagrams of Poincaré maps, phase-plane portraits, and Poincaré sections are constructed at points of interest in the parameter space for both the axial speed regimes.  相似文献

The buckling of an elastic plate with arbitrary shape flush-mounted on a rigid wall and deforming under the action of a uniform tangential load due to an overpassing simple shear flow is considered. Working under the auspices of the theory of elastic instability of plates governed by the linear von Kármán equation, an eigenvalue problem is formulated for the buckled state resulting in a fourth-order partial differential equation with position-dependent coefficients parameterized by the Poisson ratio. The governing equation also describes the deformation of a plate clamped around the edges on a vertical wall and buckling under the action of its own weight. Solutions are computed analytically for a circular plate by applying a Fourier series expansion to derive an infinite system of coupled ordinary differential equations and then implementing orthogonal collocation, and numerically for elliptical and rectangular plates by using a finite-element method. The eigenvalues of the resulting generalized algebraic eigenvalue problem are bifurcation points in the solution space, physically representing critical thresholds of the uniform tangential load above which the plate buckles and wrinkles due to the partially compressive developing stresses. The associated eigenfunctions representing possible modes of deformation are illustrated, and the effect of the Poisson ratio and plate shape is discussed.  相似文献

Bifurcations of thin circular elastic plates subjected to uniform normal pressure are explored by taking into account the flexural compliance of the edge restraint. This effect is accounted for by formally reinforcing the outer rim of the plate with a curved beam element, whose net effect is akin to a Hookean spring relating the inclination of the median surface of the plate (with respect to a horizontal plane) and the radial edge moment. The new added feature reflects the imperfect nature of the boundary restraints achieved under realistic physical conditions, and includes as particular cases the usual boundary conditions associated with flexurally simply-supported and clamped plates. It is shown here that in the limit of eigen-deformations with very short wavelengths in the azimuthal direction the two equations in the Föppl-von Kármán bifurcation system remain coupled. However, for edge restraints close to the former type the asymptotic limit of the bifurcation system is described by an Airy-like equation, whereas when the outer rim of the plate is flexurally clamped the Airy-like structure morphs into a standard equation for parabolic cylinder functions. Our singular perturbation arguments are complemented by direct numerical simulations that shed further light on the aforementioned results.  相似文献

Dynamic von-Kármán plate models consist of three coupled non-linear, time-dependent partial differential equations. These equations have been recently solved numerically [Kirby, R., Yosibash, Z., 2004. Solution of von-Kármán dynamic non-linear plate equations using a pseudo-spectral method. Comp. Meth. Appl. Mech. Eng. 193 (6–8) 575–599 and Yosibash, Z., Kirby, R., Gottlieb, D., 2004. Pseudo-spectral methods for the solution of the von-Kármán dynamic non-linear plate system. J. Comp. Phys. 200, 432–461] by the Legendre-collocation method in space and the implicit Newmark-β scheme in time, where highly accurate approximations were realized.Due to their complexity, these equations are often reduced by discarding some of the terms associated with time derivatives which are multiplied by the plate thickness squared (being a small parameter). Because of the non-linearities in the system of equations we herein quantitatively investigate the influence of these a-priori assumption on the solution for different plate thicknesses. As shown, the dynamic solutions of the so called “simplified von-Kármán” system do not differ much from the complete von-Kármán system for thin plates, but may have differences of few percent for plates with thicknesses to length ratio of about 1/20. Nevertheless, when investigating the modeling errors, i.e. the difference between the various von-Kármán models and the fully three-dimensional non-linear elastic plate solution, one realizes that for relatively thin plates (thickness is 1/20 of other typical dimensions), this difference is much larger. This implies that the simplified von-Kármán plate model used frequently in the literature is as good as an approximation as the complete (and more complicated) model. As a side note, it is shown that the dynamic response of any of the von-Kármán plate models, is completely different compared to the linearized plate model of Kirchhoff–Love for deflections of an order of magnitude as the plate thickness.  相似文献

The bifurcation and chaos of a clamped circular functionally graded plate is investigated. Considered the geometrically nonlinear relations and the temperature-dependent properties of the materials, the nonlinear partial differential equations of FGM plate subjected to transverse harmonic excitation and thermal load are derived. The Duffing nonlinear forced vibration equation is deduced by using Galerkin method and a multiscale method is used to obtain the bifurcation equation. According to singularity theory, the universal unfolding problem of the bifurcation equation is studied and the bifurcation diagrams are plotted under some conditions for unfolding parameters. Numerical simulation of the dynamic bifurcations of the FGM plate is carried out. The influence of the period doubling bifurcation and chaotic motion with the change of an external excitation are discussed.  相似文献

The non-linear deformation of a thin annular plate subjected to circumferentially distributed bending moments is studied. A von Kármán plate model is adopted to formulate the equations of motion. Free–free boundary conditions have been applied at both inner and outer edges. The matrix formulation of the Differential Quadrature Method is used to discretise and solve the governing equations. Linear analysis predicts that the annular disk deforms axisymmetrically into a spherical dome. However, the proposed non-linear analysis shows that a symmetry breaking bifurcation may occur after which the linear solution becomes unstable and the plate transitions into a non-axisymmetric cylindrical deformation. This is the case when at least one of two parameters reaches a critical value. These parameters are the non-dimensionalised ratio between applied moment and bending stiffness and the ratio between inner and outer radius. Furthermore, it is noted that free-free boundary conditions and circumferentially distributed bending moments do not break the circular symmetry of the annular disk. Hence, the principal axes of curvature in the deformed configuration do not have a preferred orientation. Therefore, the present work describes a shell possessing infinite identical equilibria, having different yet no favoured direction and, hence, links to previous researches on neutrally stable structures.  相似文献

The double Hopf bifurcation of a composite laminated piezoelectric plate with combined external and internal excitations is studied. Using a multiple scale method, the average equations are obtained in two coordinates. The bifurcation response equations of the composite laminated piezoelectric plate with the primary parameter resonance, i.e.,1:3 internal resonance, are achieved. Then, the bifurcation feature of bifurcation equations is considered using the singularity theory. A bifurcation diagram is obtained on the parameter plane. Different steady state solutions of the average equations are analyzed.By numerical simulation, periodic vibration and quasi-periodic vibration responses of the composite laminated piezoelectric plate are obtained.

Both the local and global bifurcations of a parametrically andexternally excited simply supported rectangular thin plate are analyzed. The formulas of the thin plate are derived from the vonKármán equation and Galerkin's method. The method ofmultiple scales is used to find the averaged equations. The numericalsimulation of local bifurcation is given. The theory of normal form, based on the averaged equations, is used to obtain the explicitexpressions of normal form associated with a double zero and a pair ofpurely imaginary eigenvalues from the Maple program. On the basis of thenormal form, global bifurcation analysis of a parametrically andexternally excited rectangular thin plate is given by the globalperturbation method developed by Kovacic and Wiggins. The chaotic motionof the thin plate is found by numerical simulation.  相似文献

We study the elastic stability of infinite inhomogeneous thin plates on an elastic foundation under in-plane compression. The elastic stiffness constants depend on the coordinate variable in the thickness direction of the plate. The elastic foundation is represented as a Winkler-type model characterized by linear and nonlinear spring constants. First we derive the Föppl–von Kármán equations by taking variations of the elastic strain energy. Next we develop the linear stability analysis of the plate under uniform in-plane compression and explicitly derive the critical loads and wave numbers for particular three cases. The effects of the material inhomogeneity, material orthotropy and loading orthotropy on the critical states are examined independently. Finally, we perform a weakly nonlinear analysis of the plate at the onset of the buckling instability. With the multiple scales method, the amplitude equations for the unstable modes that provide insight into the mode type and its amplitude are derived and then the effect of the material inhomogeneity on buckling modes are evaluated qualitatively.  相似文献

We are concerned with the deformation of thin, flat annular plates under a force applied orthogonally to the plane of the plate. This mechanical process can be described via a radial formulation of the Föppl – von Kármán equations, a set of nonlinear partial differential equations describing the deflections of thin flat plates. We are able to obtain analytical solutions for the radial Föppl – von Kármán equations with boundary conditions relevant for clamped, loosely clamped, and free inner and outer. This permits us to study the qualitative behavior of the out-of-plane deflections as well as the Airy stress function for a number of cases. Provided that an appropriate non-dimensionalization is taken, we find that the perturbation solutions are surprisingly valid for a wide variety of parameters, and compare favorably with numerical simulations in all cases (rather than just for small parameters). The results demonstrate that the ratio of the inner to outer radius of the annular plate will strongly influence the properties of the solutions, as will the specific boundary data considered. For instance, one may choose to fix the plate in place with a specific set of boundary conditions, in order to minimize the out-of-plane deflections. Other boundary conditions may result in undesirable behaviors.  相似文献

This paper presents a new approach to characterize the conditions that can possibly lead to chaotic motion for a simply supported large deflection rectangular plate by utilizing the criteria of the fractal dimension and the maximum Lyapunov exponent. The governing partial differential equation of the simply supported rectangular plate is first derived and simplified to a set of two ordinary differential equations by the Galerkin method. Several different features including Fourier spectra, state-space plot, Poinca?e map and bifurcation diagram are then numerically computed by using a double-mode approach. These features are used to characterize the dynamic behavior of the plate subjected to various excitation conditions. Numerical examples are presented to verify the validity of the conditions that lead to chaotic motion and the effectiveness of the proposed modeling approach. The numerical results indicate that large deflection motion of a rectangular plate possesses many bifurcation points, two different chaotic motions and some jump phenomena under various lateral loading. The results of numerical simulation indicate that the computed bifurcation points can lead to either a transcritical bifurcation or a pitchfork bifurcation for the motion of a large deflection rectangular plate. Meanwhile, the points of pitchfork bifurcation can gradually lead to chaotic motion in some specific loading conditions. The modeling result thus obtained by using the method proposed in this paper can be employed to predict the instability induced by the dynamics of a large deflection plate.  相似文献

The necking of an elastic-plastic circular plate under uniform radial tensile loading is investigated both within the framework of the three-dimensional theory and within the context of the plane-stress approximation. Attention is restricted to axisymmetric deformations of the plate. The material behavior is described by two different constitutive laws. One is a finite-strain version of the simplest flow-theory of plasticity and the other is a finite-strain generalization of the simplest deformationtheory, which is employed as a simple model of a solid with a vertex on its yield surface. For an initially uniform plate made of an incompressible material, bifurcation from the uniformly stretched state is studied analytically. The regimes of stress and moduli where the governing axisymmetric three-dimensional equations are elliptic, parabolic or hyperbolic are identified. The plane-stress local-necking mode emerges as the appropriate limiting mode from the bifurcation modes available in the elliptic regime. In the elliptic regime, the main qualitative features of the bifurcation behavior are revealed by the plane-stress analysis, although three-dimensional effects delay the onset of necking somewhat. For the deformation theory employed here, the first bifurcation modes are encountered in the parabolic regime if the hardening-rate is sufficiently high. These bifurcations are not revealed by a plane-stress analysis. For a plate with an initial inhomogeneity, the growth of an imperfection is studied by a perturbation method, by a plane-stress analysis of localized necking, and by numerical computations within the framework of the three-dimensional theory. When bifurcation of the corresponding perfect plate takes place in the elliptic regime, the finite element results show that the plane-stress analysis gives reasonably good agreement with the numerical results. When bifurcation of the corresponding perfect plate first occurs in the parabolic regime, then a bifurcation of the imperfect plate is encountered, that is, the finite element stiffness matrix ceases to be positive definite.  相似文献

The three-dimensional frame is simplified into flat plate by the method of quasiplate. The nonlinear relationships between the surface strain and the midst plane displacement are established. According to the thin plate nonlinear dynamical theory, the nonlinear dynamical equations of three-dimensional frame in the orthogonal coordinates system are obtained. Then the equations are translated into the axial symmetry nonlinear dynamical equations in the polar coordinates system. Some dimensionless quantities different from the plate of uniform thickness are introduced under the boundary conditions of fixed edges, then these fundamental equations are simplified with these dimensionless quantities. A cubic nonlinear vibration equation is obtained with the method of Galerkin. The stability and bifurcation of the circular three-dimensional frame are studied under the condition of without outer motivation. The contingent chaotic vibration of the three-dimensional frame is studied with the method of Melnikov. Some phase figures of contingent chaotic vibration are plotted with digital artificial method.  相似文献

Nonlinear dynamic responses of a laminated hybrid composite plate subjected to time-dependent pulses are investigated. Dynamic equations of the plate are derived by the use of the virtual work principle. The geometric nonlinearity effects are taken into account with the von Kármán large deflection theory of thin plates. Approximate solutions for a clamped plate are assumed for the space domain. The single term approximation functions are selected by considering the nonlinear static deformation of plate obtained using the finite element method. The Galerkin Method is used to obtain the nonlinear differential equations in the time domain and a MATLAB software code is written to solve nonlinear coupled equations by using the Newmark Method. The results of approximate-numerical analysis are obtained and compared with the finite element results. Transient loading conditions considered include blast, sine, rectangular, and triangular pulses. A parametric study is conducted considering the effects of peak pressure, aspect ratio, fiber orientation and thicknesses.  相似文献
