The products formed in the reactions of CO₂ and CO with the hexameric copper hydride [HCuPPh₃]₆ have been isolated and identified. Reactions of the formate (Ph₃P)₂CuOCOH, the product of CO₂ insertion into the HCu bond, have also been studied.

The paramagnetic compounds [Os₂(OCOR)₄Cl₂] (R = n-C₃H₇, C₂H₇, C₂H₅, CH₂Cl) have been synthesized by reaction of [Os(OCOCH₃)₂Cl]_n with the appropriate acids and the binuclear tetracarboxylate bridged structure confirmed by X-ray analysis for R = n-C₃H₇, (OsOs distance 2.301 Å, cf. the related [Os₂(hp)₄Cl₂](CH₃CN)₂; OsOs, 2.357 Å) (hp = 2-hydroxypyridine anion).

The underpotential deposition of lead on single crystal silver cathodes has been investigated. Only a single monolayer of lead was formed on the (111) and (100) substrates but, on the (110) orientation, the deposition of a second layer started before the onset of bulk deposition. The pattern of an initial adsorption step followed by a sharp phase transformation process, analogous to that seen in thallium deposition, was also followed in this case. The amount of initial adsorption was small for the (111) case in contrast to the other two cases for which a complete superlattice of adsorbed lead was formed. The final phase layer was formed by the nucleation and growth of two-dimensional centres and its structure appeared to be distorted by the structure of the underlying substrate. Adsorbable anions modify the details of the deposition process.

Ruthenium trichloride hydrate combined with tributylphosphine catalyzes the reaction between 1,3-propanediol and an aminoarene at 180°C, providing a novel route to quinoline derivatives under non-acidic conditions.

An X-ray analysis of [Os(CO)₄AuPPh₃₂] shows that the metal atoms define an isosceles triangle in which the Au-Au distance is 2.929(1) Å, which is ca. 0.1 Å shorter than in the corresponding iron analogue [Fe(CO)₄AuPPh₃₂].
