In this paper we consider a model consisting of a deteriorating installation that transfers a raw material to a production unit and a buffer which has been built between the installation and the production unit. The deterioration process of the installation is considered to be nonstationary, i.e. the transition probabilities may depend not only on the working conditions of the installation but on its age as well. The problem of the optimal preventive maintenance of the installation is considered. Under a suitable cost structure it is shown that, for fixed age of the installation and fixed buffer level, the optimal policy is of control-limit type. When the deterioration process is stationary, an efficient Markov decision algorithm operating on the class of control-limit policies is developed. There is strong numerical evidence that the algorithm converges to the optimal policy. Two generalizations of this model are also discussed.  相似文献

We consider a manufacturing system in which an input generating installation transfers a raw material to a subsequent production unit. Both machines deteriorate stochastically with usage and may fail. For each machine the deteriorating process is described by some known transition probabilities between different degrees of deterioration. A buffer has been built between the two machines in order to cope with unexpected failures of the installation. A discrete-time Markov decision model is formulated for the optimal preventive maintenance of both machines. The maintenance times are geometrically distributed and the cost structure includes operating costs, storage costs, maintenance costs and costs due to the lost production. It is proved that for fixed buffer content and for fixed deterioration degree of one machine, the average-cost optimal policy initiates a preventive maintenance of the other machine if and only if its degree of deterioration exceeds some critical level. We study, by means of numerical results, the effect of the variation of some parameters on the optimal policy and on the minimum average cost. For the case in which the maintenance times follow continuous distributions, an approximate discrete-time Markov decision model is proposed.  相似文献

We consider a system which deteriorates with age and may experience a failure at any time instant. On failure, the system may be replaced or repaired. The repair can partially reset the failure intensity of the unit. Under a suitable cost structure it has been proved in the literature that the average-cost optimal policy is of control-limit type, i.e. it conducts a replacement if and only if, on the nth failure, the real age of the system is greater than or equal to a critical value. We develop an efficient special-purpose policy iteration algorithm that generates a sequence of improving control-limit policies. The value determination step of the algorithm is based on the embedding technique. There is strong numerical evidence that the algorithm converges to the optimal policy.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a Markov decision model introduced by Economou (2003), in which it was proved that the optimal policy in the problem of controlling a compound immigration process through total catastrophes is of control-limit type. We show that the average cost of a control-limit policy is unimodal as a function of the critical point. In this paper, we formulate an analytical model for the joint determination of an optimal age-dependent buffer inventory and preventive maintenance policy in a production environment that is subject to random machine breakdowns. Traditional preventive maintenance policies, such as age and periodic replacements, are usually studied based on simplified and non-realistic assumptions, as well as on the expected costs criterion. Finished goods inventories and the age-dependent likelihood of machine breakdowns are usually not considered. As a result, these policies could significantly extend beyond the anticipated financial incomes of the system, and lead to crises. In order to solve this problem, a more realistic analysis model is proposed in this paper to consider the effects of both preventive maintenance policies and machine age on optimal safety stock levels. Hence, a unified framework is developed, allowing production and preventive maintenance to be jointly considered. We use an age-dependent optimization model based on the minimization of an overall cost function, including inventory holdings, lost sales, preventive and corrective maintenance costs. We provide optimality conditions for the manufacturing systems considered, and use numerical methods to obtain an optimal preventive maintenance policy and the relevant age-dependent threshold level production policy. In this work, this policy is called the multiple threshold levels hedging point policy. We include numerical examples and sensitivity analyses to illustrate the importance and the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. Compared with other available optimal production and maintenance policies, the numerical solution obtained shows that the proposed age-dependent optimal production and maintenance policies significantly reduce the overall cost incurred.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the material procurement and delivery policy in a production system where raw materials enter into the assembly line from two different flow channels. The system encompasses batch production process in which the finished product demand is approximately constant for an infinite planning horizon. Two distinct types of raw materials are passed through the assembly line before to convert them into the finished product. Of the two types of raw materials, one type requires preprocessing inside the facility before the assembly operation and other group is fed straightway in the assembly line. The conversion factors are assigned to raw materials to quantify the raw material batch size required. To analyze such a system, we formulate a nonlinear cost function to aggregate all the costs of the inventories, ordering, shipping and deliveries. An algorithm using the branch and bound concept is provided to find the best integer values of the optimal solutions. The result shows that the optimal procurement and delivery policy minimizes the expected total cost of the model. Using a test problem, the inventory requirements at each stage of production and their corresponding costs are calculated. From the analysis, it is shown that the rate and direction change of total cost is turned to positive when delivery rates per batch reaches close to the optimal value and the minimum cost is achieved at the optimal delivery rate. Also, it is shown that total incremental cost is monotonically increasing, if the finished product batch size is increased, and if, inventory cost rates are increased. We examine a set of numerical examples that reveal the insights into the procurement-delivery policy and the performance of such an assembly type inventory model.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a periodic preventive maintenance model, from the manufacturer's perspective, which can be implemented to reduce the maintenance cost of a repairable product during a given warranty period. The product is assumed to deteriorate with age and the warranty policy we adopt in this paper takes into account the two factors of failure time and repair time of the product when the product failure occurs. Under the proposed two-factor warranty, a repair time threshold is pre-determined and if the repair takes more time than that of the threshold, the failed product is replaced with a renewed warranty policy. Otherwise, the product is only minimally repaired to return to the operating state. During such a renewable warranty period, preventive maintenance is conducted to reduce the rate of degradation periodically while the product is in operation. By assuming certain cost structures, we formulate the expected warranty cost during the warranty period from the manufacturer's perspective when a periodic preventive maintenance strategy is adapted. Although more frequent preventive maintenance increases the warranty cost, the chance of product failures would be reduced. The main aim of this paper is to accomplish the optimal trade-off between the warranty cost and the preventive maintenance period by determining the optimal preventive maintenance period that minimizes the total expected warranty cost during the warranty period. Assuming the power law process for the product failures, we illustrate our proposed maintenance model numerically and study the impact of relevant parameters on the optimal preventive maintenance policy.  相似文献

Consider a system subject to two modes of failures: maintainable and non-maintainable. A failure rate function is related to each failure mode. Whenever the system fails, a minimal repair is performed. Preventive maintenances are performed at integer multiples of a fixed period. The system is replaced when a fixed number of preventive maintenances have been completed. The preventive maintenance is imperfect because it reduces the failure rate of the maintainable failures but does not affect the failure rate of the non-maintainable failures. The two failure modes are dependent in the following way: after each preventive maintenance, the failure rate of the maintainable failures depends on the total of non-maintainable failures since the installation of the system. The problem is to determine an optimal length between successive preventive maintenances and the optimal number of preventive maintenances before the system replacement that minimize the expected cost rate. Optimal preventive maintenance schedules are obtained for non-decreasing failure rates and numerical examples for power law models are given.  相似文献

We consider a two-stage, pull-type production/inventory system with a known service mechanism at the first stage. Set-ups and start-ups are involved in the operation of the second stage. We develop a production control policy for the second stage, within the class of (R, r) continuous-review policies, that minimizes the long run average total cost. We use a semi-Markov decision model to obtain an optimal policy for the operation of the second stage. The structure of the optimal policy suggests the use of a suboptimal look-back policy that delays the set-up at the second stage if the buffer lacks sufficient raw material. The performance of the system and the average total cost under the suboptimal policy can be obtained approximately using a decomposition algorithm. In this paper we consider the problem of controlling the arrival of customers into a GI/M/1 service station. It is known that when the decisions controlling the system are made only at arrival epochs, the optimal acceptance strategy is of a control-limit type, i.e., an arrival is accepted if and only if fewer than n customers are present in the system. The question is whether exercising conditional acceptance can further increase the expected long run average profit of a firm which operates the system. To reveal the relevance of conditional acceptance we consider an extension of the control-limit rule in which the nth customer is conditionally admitted to the queue. This customer may later be rejected if neither service completion nor arrival has occurred within a given time period since the last arrival epoch. We model the system as a semi-Markov decision process, and develop conditions under which such a policy is preferable to the simple control-limit rule.  相似文献

Under the generalized age replacement policy, the system is replaced either at the predetermined age or upon failure if its corresponding repair time exceeds the threshold, whichever comes first. In this paper, we investigate the optimal choice of the pre‐determined preventive replacement age for a nonwarranted system, which minimizes the expected cost rate during the life cycle of the system from the customer's perspective under certain cost structures. Furthermore, we discuss several properties of such a generalized age replacement policy in comparison with the traditional age replacement policy. An efficiency, which represents the fractional time that the system is on, is defined under the proposed generalized age replacement policy and its monotonicity properties are investigated as well. The main objective of this study is to investigate the advantageous features of the generalized age replacement policy over the traditional age replacement policy with regard to the availability of the repairable system. Assuming that the system deteriorates with age, we illustrate our proposed optimal policies numerically and observe the impact of relevant parameters on the optimal preventive replacement age.  相似文献

针对考虑库存缓冲区的多目标设备维修问题,以设备维修能力为约束条件,获得随机故障设备的不完美预防维修策略。首先,利用准更新过程,表示出设备的随机故障次数。其次,结合设备故障次数表达式,以最大设备可用度和最小生产总成本为多目标构建不完美预防维修模型,使用粒子群算法求解,优化设备可用度与生产总成本,获得更新周期内的库存量和预防维修周期两个决策变量的最优值。最后,通过算例分析,验证了多目标不完美预防维修模型的可用性。  相似文献

This paper investigates preventive-maintenance warranty (PMW) policies for repairable products. When the length of a warranty period is pre-specified, the optimal number of preventive maintenance actions, corresponding maintenance degrees, and the maintenance schedule are jointly determined. We show that there exists a unique optimal policy such that the expected total warranty cost is minimized. Under some reasonable conditions, structural properties of the optimal policy are obtained. Using these properties, an algorithm is provided to efficiently search for the optimal policy. In the case where the failure density is Weibull, a closed form expression of the optimal policy is derived. Finally, the impact of providing preventive maintenance within a warranty period is illustrated through a numerical example.  相似文献

A continuously monitored system is considered, that gradually and stochastically deteriorates according to a bivariate non-decreasing Lévy process. The system is considered as failed as soon as its bivariate deterioration level enters a failure zone, assumed to be an upper set. A preventive maintenance policy is proposed, which involves a delayed replacement, triggered by the reaching of some preventive zone for the system deterioration level. The preventive maintenance policy is assessed through a cost function on an infinite horizon time. The cost function is provided in full form, and tools are provided for its numerical computation. The influence of different parameters on the cost function is studied, both from a theoretical and/or numerical point of view.  相似文献

In this paper, a geometric process maintenance model with preventive repair is studied. A maintenance policy (TN) is applied by which the system will be repaired whenever it fails or its operating time reaches T whichever occurs first, and the system will be replaced by a new and identical one following the Nth failure. The long-run average cost per unit time is determined. An optimal policy (TN) could be determined numerically or analytically for minimizing the average cost. A new class of lifetime distribution which takes into account the effect of preventive repair is studied that is applied to determine the optimal policy (TN).  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the joint determination of both economic production quantity and preventive maintenance (PM) schedules under the realistic assumption that the production facility is subject to random failure and the maintenance is imperfect. The manufacturing system is assumed to deteriorate while in operation, with an increasing failure rate. The system undergoes PM either upon failure or after having reached a predetermined age, whichever of them occurs first. As is often the case in real manufacturing applications, maintenance activities are imperfect and unable to restore the system to its original healthy state. In this work, we propose a model that could be used to determine the optimal number of production runs and the sequence of PM schedules that minimizes the long-term average cost. Some useful properties of the cost function are developed to characterize the optimal policy. An algorithm is also proposed to find the optimal solutions to the problem at hand. Numerical results are provided to illustrate both the use of the algorithm in the study of the optimal cost function and the latter’s sensitivity to different changes in cost factors.  相似文献

This paper proposes a coordinated maintenance model in a multi-component system with compound Poisson deterioration. The main contribution is a policy-iteration approach for Semi-Markov processes that optimizes the threshold at which the component is eligible for preventive maintenance if another component requires corrective maintenance. The methodology is novel as we develop explicit expressions for the policy evaluation and prove these expressions to satisfy the set of linear equations which characterize traditional policy evaluation. By doing so, long-run average cost savings are achieved, since setup costs can be shared.  相似文献
