An explicit model realizing parton-hadron duality and fitting the data is suggested. Complex nonlinear Regge trajectories are important ingredients of the model. The inclusion of Δ and N* trajectories should account for all resonances in the direct channel. The exotic trajectory is responsible for the smooth background. By using the concept of duality between direct channel resonances and Regge exchanges we relate the small- and large-x behavior of the structure functions. We show that even a single resonance exhibits Bjorken scaling at large Q2. Received: 30 October 2001 / Accepted: 16 November 2001  相似文献

I present an overview of recent data on Deep Inelastic Scattering at large Bjorken x and low invariant mass, W2, where parton-hadron duality was originally observed. I discuss the concept of parton-hadron duality from the perspective of perturbative QCD. Within this framework, I show that parton-hadron duality is broken for low values of W2, in the - and S11-resonance production region. A model that accounts for the anomalous scale dependence ensuing from this situation is developed.Received: 1 November 2002, Published online: 15 July 2003PACS: 13.60.-r Photon and charged-lepton interactions with hadrons - 13.60.Hb Total and inclusive cross-sections (including deep-inelastic processes)  相似文献

We define β-functions for open-string tachyons away from the perturbative fixed point. We show that solutions of the renormalization-group fixed-point equations generate open-string scattering amplitudes.  相似文献

We investigate a special concept of quarkhadron duality in meson physics at low and intermediate energies. With a relativistic propagator for confined quarks, we calculated masses and widths of the mesons which areS- andP-wave states ofq¯q (J P=0?, 1?, 0+, 1+c, 2+) as well as meson-meson scattering amplitudes at energies up totrs ≤ 1.3 GeV by including light pseudoscalar and vector mesons into the interaction dynamics. Our investigation shows that the influence of the light meson dynamics resutls in:
  1. a contribution to the constituent quark mass of approximately 200 MeV.
  2. the appearance of a new soft confinement force barrier responsible for the formation of the highly excited meson states.

We consider the bosonic string path integral over degenerating Riemann surfaces. We first review the factorization of conformal field theory on a degenerating surface. A careful treatment of the degeneration of the measure for moduli leads to a modification of the usual ghost insertions so as to assure covariance under a change of conformal frame. More generally, amplitudes with BRST invariant but conformally non-invariant operators are well defined with the covariant ghost insertions. As a detailed application we study the string modifications to the background field equations. We find to first order in the tadpole and all orders in string coupling that the ratio of the graviton source, dilaton source, and zero-point amplitude agrees with that found from general covariance and the soft-dilaton theorem in the low-energy field theory. We also discuss the unitarity of the bosonic string theory,  相似文献

Classification of the N=1 space–time supersymmetric fermionic Z2×Z2 heterotic-string vacua with symmetric internal shifts, revealed a novel spinor-vector duality symmetry over the entire space of vacua, where the StV duality interchanges the spinor plus anti-spinor representations with vector representations. In this paper we demonstrate that the spinor-vector duality exists also in fermionic Z2 heterotic string models, which preserve N=2 space–time supersymmetry. In this case the interchange is between spinorial and vectorial representations of the unbroken SO(12) GUT symmetry. We provide a general algebraic proof for the existence of the StV duality map. We present a novel basis to generate the free fermionic models in which the ten-dimensional gauge degrees of freedom are grouped into four groups of four, each generating an SO(8) modular block. In the new basis the GUT symmetries are produced by generators arising from the trivial and non-trivial sectors, and due to the triality property of the SO(8) representations. Thus, while in the new basis the appearance of GUT symmetries is more cumbersome, it may be more instrumental in revealing the duality symmetries that underly the string vacua.  相似文献

We present a general method of constructing unfactorizable on-shell amplitudes (amplitude basis) and build up their one-to-one correspondence to the independent and complete operator basis in effective field theory (EFT). We apply our method to the Standard Model EFT and identify the amplitude basis in dimensions 5 and 6, which correspond to the Weinberg operator and operators in the Warsaw basis, except for some linear combinations.  相似文献

We explicitly show that the new polynomial invariants for knots, upto nine crossings, agree with the Ooguri–Vafa conjecture relating Chern–Simons gauge theory to topological string theory on the resolution of the conifold.  相似文献

This is the content of a set of lectures given at the “XIII Jorge André Swieca Summer School on Particles and Fields”, Campos do Jordão, Brazil in January 2005. They intend to be a basic introduction to the topic of gauge/gravity duality in confining theories. We start by reviewing some key aspects of the low energy physics of non‐Abelian gauge theories. Then, we present the basics of the AdS/CFT correspondence and its extension both to gauge theories in different spacetime dimensions with sixteen supercharges and to more realistic situations with less supersymmetry. We discuss the different options of interest: placing D–branes at singularities and wrapping D–branes in calibrated cycles of special holonomy manifolds. We finally present an outline of a number of non‐perturbative phenomena in non‐Abelian gauge theories as seen from supergravity.  相似文献
