We numerically solve the coupled-nonlinear two-dimensional Dirac equations that describe a virtual spin-1/2 system with cubic nonlinearity.We find that this set of equations supports only oscillatory solutions in the non-relativistic limit and families of discrete localized solutions in the relativistic limit. Each family of the localized solutions is characterized by a constant central amplitude value. Each solution within a family is characterized by a number of nodes and a discrete energy eigenvalue, which is bounded by the rest mass of the particle. We study the effect of different parameters on the localized solutions.  相似文献

We investigate the cosmological character of five-dimensional (Kaluza-Klein type) solutions of the Einstein equations. We show that the vacuum solutions of these equations give rise to an effective radiation density connected with the existence of the extra dimension. We examine the connection between this case and the solutions obtained by assuming a five-dimensional radiation source.  相似文献

We investigate the solutions of Nambu–Goto-type actions associated with calibrations. We determine the supersymmetry preserved by these solutions using the contact set of the calibration and examine their bulk interpretation as intersecting branes. We show that the supersymmetry preserved by such solutions is closely related to the spinor singlets of the subgroup G of Spin (9,1) or Spin (10,1) that rotates the tangent spaces of the brane. We find that the supersymmetry projections of the worldvolume solutions are precisely those of the associated bulk configurations. We also investigate the supersymmetric solutions of a Born–Infeld action. We show that in some cases this problem again reduces to counting spinor singlets of a subgroup of Spin (9,1) acting on the associated spinor representations. We also find new worldvolume solutions which preserve 1/8 of the supersymmetry of the bulk and give their bulk interpretation. Received: 20 May 1998 / Accepted: 16 November 1998  相似文献

We present a new class of magnetic brane solutions in (n+1)-dimensional Brans-Dicke-Maxwell theory in the presence of a quadratic potential for the scalar field. These solutions are neither asymptotically flat nor (anti)-de Sitter. Our strategy for constructing these solutions is applying a conformal transformation to the corresponding solutions in dilaton gravity. This class of solutions represents a spacetime with a longitudinal magnetic field generated by a static brane. They have no curvature singularity and no horizons but have a conic geometry with a deficit angle δ. We generalize this class of solutions to the case of spinning magnetic brane with all rotation parameters. We also use the counterterm method and calculate the conserved quantities of the solutions.  相似文献

We construct a new class of spinning magnetic string solutions in f(R) gravity with constant scalar curvature. These solutions which produce a longitudinal magnetic field have no curvature singularity and no horizon, but have a conic geometry with a deficit angle. We also generalize this class of solutions to the case of spinning magnetic solutions with one rotation parameter. We find that the spinning string has a net electric charge which is proportional to the rotation parameter. With choosing a suitable counterterm, we remove the divergences of the action. The conserved quantities of the solutions are also calculated by using the counterterm method.  相似文献

We examine an axi-symmetric deflagration located in a tube with thermally active walls. It is noted that the flame-in-tube configuration defines a classical edge-flame, a flame in a shear flow for which there is a water-shed solution for a critical value of the Damköhler number (D), ignition front solutions for larger values of D, and failure wave solutions for smaller values. We examine semi-infinite tubes with a heat flux imposed at the tube wall ends, to simulate experiments reported in the 30th Symposium. We identify parameters for which stable solutions are obtained at certain flow rates, but unstable solutions are generated at higher flow rates, followed by stable solutions at still higher flow rates. These solutions are consistent with the experimental record. Instability leads either to regular oscillations or to a violent process characterized by quenching and re-ignition.  相似文献

We explicitly demonstrate the existence of static global defect solutions of arbitrary dimensionality whose energy does not diverge at spatial infinity, by considering maximally symmetric solutions described by an action with non-standard kinetic terms in a D+1 dimensional Minkowski space-time. We analytically determine the defect profile both at small and large distances from the defect centre. We study the stability of such solutions and discuss possible implications of our findings, in particular for dark matter and charge fractionalization in graphene.  相似文献

We report a three parameter family of solutions for dilaton gravity in 2+1 dimensions with finite mass and finite angular momentum. These solutions are obtained by a compactification of vacuum solutions in 3+1 dimensions with cylindrical symmetry. In this Letter, He's homotopy perturbation method (HPM) is implemented for finding the solitary-wave solutions of the regularized long-wave (RLW) and generalized modified Boussinesq (GMB) equations. We obtain numerical solutions of these equations for the initial conditions. We will show that the convergence of the HPM is faster than those obtained by the Adomian decomposition method (ADM). The obtained solutions, in comparison with the exact solutions admit a remarkable accuracy. A clear conclusion can be drawn from the numerical results that the HPM provides highly accurate numerical solutions for nonlinear differential equations.  相似文献

In this note we show how to find patterned solutions in linear arrays of coupled cells. The solutions are found by embedding the system in a circular array with twice the number of cells. The individual cells have a unique steady state, so that the patterned solutions represent a discrete analog of Turing structures in continuous media. We then use the symmetry of the circular array (and bifurcation from an invariant equilibrium) to identify symmetric solutions of the circular array that restrict to solutions of the original linear array. We apply these abstract results to a system of coupled Brusselators to prove that patterned solutions exist. In addition, we show, in certain instances, that these patterned solutions can be found by numerical integration and hence are presumably asymptotically stable.  相似文献

We study various classical solutions of the baby-Skyrmion model in (2+1) dimensions. We point out the existence of higher energy states, interpret them as resonances of Skyrmions and anti-Skyrmions and study their decays. Most of the discussion involves a highly exited Skyrmion-like state with winding number one which decays into an ordinary Skyrmion and a Skyrmion-anti-Skyrmion pair. We also study wave-like solutions of the model and show that some of such solutions can be constructed from the solutions of the sine-Gordon equation. We also show that the baby-Skyrmion model has non-topological stationary solutions. We study their interactions with Skyrmions.  相似文献

We construct solutions of the constraint equation with non constant mean curvature on an asymptotically hyperbolic manifold by the conformal method. Our approach consists in decreasing a certain exponent appearing in the equations, constructing solutions of these sub-critical equations and then in letting the exponent tend to its true value. We prove that the solutions of the sub-critical equations remain bounded which yields solutions of the constraint equation unless a certain limit equation admits a non-trivial solution. Finally, we give conditions which ensure that the limit equation admits no non-trivial solution.  相似文献

General quantum gravity arguments predict that Lorentz symmetry might not hold exactly in nature. This has motivated much interest in Lorentz breaking gravity theories recently. Among such models are vector-tensor theories with preferred direction established at every point of spacetime by a fixed-norm vector field. The dynamical vector field defined in this way is referred to as the "aether". In this paper, we put forward the idea of a null aether field and introduce, for the first time, the Null Aether Theory(NAT) — a vector-tensor theory. We first study the Newtonian limit of this theory and then construct exact spherically symmetric black hole solutions in the theory in four dimensions, which contain Vaidya-type non-static solutions and static Schwarzschild-(A)dS type solutions, Reissner-Nordstr?m-(A)dS type solutions and solutions of conformal gravity as special cases. Afterwards, we study the cosmological solutions in NAT:We find some exact solutions with perfect fluid distribution for spatially flat FLRW metric and null aether propagating along the x direction. We observe that there are solutions in which the universe has big-bang singularity and null field diminishes asymptotically. We also study exact gravitational wave solutions — AdS-plane waves and pp-waves — in this theory in any dimension D ≥ 3. Assuming the Kerr-Schild-Kundt class of metrics for such solutions, we show that the full field equations of the theory are reduced to two, in general coupled, differential equations when the background metric assumes the maximally symmetric form. The main conclusion of these computations is that the spin-0 aether field acquires a "mass" determined by the cosmological constant of the background spacetime and the Lagrange multiplier given in the theory.  相似文献

The paraxial wave equation is a reduced form of the Helmholtz equation. Its solutions can be directly obtained from the solutions of the Helmholtz equation by using the method of complex point source. We applied the same logic to quantum mechanics, because the Schrödinger equation is parabolic in nature as the paraxial wave equation. We defined a differential equation, which is analogous to the Helmholtz equation for quantum mechanics and derived the solutions of the Schrödinger equation by taking into account the solutions of this equation with the method of complex point source. The method is applied to the problem of diffraction of matter waves by a shutter.  相似文献

We investigate the integrability of cosmic strings in Bianchi II, VIII and IX space-times using a Lie symmetry analysis. The behaviour of the gravitational field is governed by solutions of a single second order nonlinear differential equation. We demonstrate that this equation is integrable and admits an infinite family of physically reasonable solutions. Particular solutions obtained by other authors are shown to be special cases of our class of solutions.  相似文献

We study the vortex solutions in a multicomponent Zhang–Hansson–Kivelson model for the fractional quantum Hall effect, at the self-dual point. Vortices with minimal free energy represent Laughlin quasiholes. We find at least two classes of solutions, distinguished by their global invariance, or by the number of conserved charges.  相似文献
