The Partition Algebra as a Centralizer Algebra of the Alternating Group

ABSTRACT

In this article, we focus on the result of V.F.R. Jones which says that the partition algebra is the algebra of all transformations commuting with the action of the symmetric group on tensor products of its permutation representation. In particular, we restrict the action of the symmetric group to the action of the alternating group. In this context, we compute a basis for the centralizer algebra and show when the centralizer is isomorphic to the partition algebra.     

The Peak Algebra of the Symmetric Group

The peak set of a permutation is the set {i : (i – 1) < (i) > (i + 1)}. The group algebra of the symmetric group S _n admits a subalgebra in which elements are sums of permutations with a common descent set. In this paper we show the existence of a subalgebra of this descent algebra in which elements are sums of permutations sharing a common peak set. To prove the existence of this peak algebra we use the theory of enriched (P, )-partitions and the algebra of quasisymmetric peak functions studied by Stembridge (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 349 (1997) 763–788).     

The Second Dual Algebra of the Measure Algebra of a Compact Group

The p-Modular Descent Algebra of the Symmetric Group

The descent algebra of the symmetric group, over a field ofnon-zero characteristic p, is studied. A homomorphism into thealgebra of generalised p-modular characters of the symmetricgroup is defined. This is then used to determine the radical,and its nilpotency index. The Group of Automorphisms of the Rational Group Algebra of a Finite Metacyclic Group

We investigate the group of automorphisms Aut(? G) of a rational group algebra ? G of a finite metacyclic group G by first describing the simple components of the Wedderburn decomposition of ? G and then investigating when two of these simple components are isomorphic.     

The Group of Outer Automorphisms and the Picard Group of an Algebra

The primary goal of this work is to develop a strategy to compute Pic_K(A) and Out_K(A) where A is a finite-dimensional algebra over a field K. The basic idea is to put the normal subgroup Inn^*(A) of the inner automorphisms of A induced by elements of 1 + J(A), as a common denominator in the fraction Aut_K(A) / Inn(A). The new numerator Aut_K(A)/Inn^*(A) and the new denominator Inn(A)/Inn^*(A) are much easier to deal with than the original Aut_K(A) and Inn(A). The main ingredient to study Out(A) is now the appearance of an Abelian group Ch(, K), the group of acyclic characters of the quiver of A, that can be completely calculated. We show how to apply these results to compute the Picard group of a split finite-dimensional algebra in several cases.     

The Primitive Idempotents of a Cyclic Group Algebra

Approximation of Invariant Measures for Regime-switching Diffusions

In this paper, we are concerned with long-time behavior of Euler-Maruyama schemes associated with regime-switching diffusion processes. The key contributions of this paper lie in that existence and uniqueness of numerical invariant measures are addressed (i) for regime-switching diffusion processes with finite state spaces by the Perron-Frobenius theorem if the “averaging condition” holds, and, for the case of reversible Markov chain, via the principal eigenvalue approach provided that the principal eigenvalue is positive; (ii) for regime-switching diffusion processes with countable state spaces by means of a finite partition method and an M-Matrix theory. We also reveal that numerical invariant measures converge in the Wasserstein metric to the underlying ones. Several examples are constructed to demonstrate our theory.

The Projective Cover of the Trivial Module Over a Group Algebra of a Finite Group

We determine all finite groups G such that the Loewy length (socle length) of the projective cover P(k _G ) of the trivial kG-module k _G is four, where k is a field of characteristic p > 0 and kG is the group algebra of G over k, by using previous results and also the classification of finite simple groups. As a by-product we prove also that if p = 2 then all finite groups G such that the Loewy lengths of the principal block algebras of kG are four, are determined.
