This paper is concerned with parameterized families of approximate fibrations from a compact Hilbert cube manifold M to a compact polyhedron B. The main result shows how to straighten out certain of these families to be nearly like a product. As an application of this technique, it is shown that an approximate fibration p:M → B can be approximated arbitrarily closely by bundle maps if and only if p is homotopic via approximate fibrations to a bundle map. We study two aspects of quantum Schubert calculus: a presentation of the (small) quantum cohomology ring of partial flag manifolds and a quantum Giambelli formula. Our proof gives a relationship between universal Schubert polynomials as defined by Fulton and quantum Schubert polynomials, as defined by Fomin, Gelfand, and Postnikov, and later extended by Ciocan-Fontanine. Mathieu (Math. Helv. 70 (1995) 1) introduced a canonic filtration in the de Rham cohomology of a symplectic manifold and proved, that the middle filtration space is the space of harmonic cohomology classes. We give an interpretation of the other filtration spaces, prove a Künneth theorem for harmonic cohomology, prove Poincaré duality for harmonic cohomology and show how surjectivity of certain Lefschetz type mappings is related to properties of the filtration. It is shown that the proper L-S category of an eventually end-irreducible, R2-irreducible Whitehead 3-manifold is 4. A proper surjection between polyhedra f:P→Q is cellular if each point inverse of f is cellular in P. It is shown that if f:P→Q is a cellular map and either P or Q is a generalized n-manifold, n≠4, then f is approximable by homeomorphisms. Also, if P or Q is an n-manifold with boundary, n≠4, 5, then a cellular map f:P→Q is approximable by homeomorphisms. The Lusternik-Schnirelmann category of a space is a homotopy invariant. Cone-decompositions are used for giving upper-bound for Lusternik-Schnirelmann categories of topological spaces. Singhof has determined the Lusternik-Schnirelmann categories of the unitary groups. In this paper I give two cone-decompositions of each unitary group for alternative proofs of Singhof's result. One cone-decomposition is easy. The other is closely related to Miller's filtration and Yokota's cellular decomposition of the unitary groups. 相似文献
