Using both theoretical modeling and computer simulations we study a model system for DNA interactions in the vicinity of charged membranes. We focus on the polarization of the mobile charges in the membranes due to the nearby charged rods (DNA) and the resulting screening of their fields and inter-rod interactions. We find, both within a Debye-Hückel model and in Brownian dynamics simulations, that the confinement of the mobile charges to the surface leads to a qualitative reduction in their ability to screen the charged rods to the degree that the fields and resulting interactions are not finite-ranged as in systems including a bulk salt concentration, but rather decay algebraically and the screening effect is more like an effective increase in the multipole moment of the charged rod. This work presents an overview of investigations of the nuclear spin dynamics in nanostructures with negatively charged InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots characterized by strong quadrupole splitting of nuclear spin sublevels. The main method of the investigations is the experimental measurements and the theoretical analysis of the photoluminescence polarization as a function of the transverse magnetic field (effect Hanle). The dependence of the Hanle curve profile on the temporal protocol of optical excitation is examined. Experimental data are analyzed using an original approach based on separate consideration of behavior of the longitudinal and transverse components of the nuclear polarization. The rise and decay times of each component of the nuclear polarization and their dependence on transverse magnetic field strength are determined. To study the role of the Knight field in the dynamic of nuclear polarization, a weak additional magnetic field parallel to the optical axis is used. We have found that, only taking into account the nuclear spin fluctuations, we can accurately describe the measured Hanle curves and evaluate the parameters of the electron–nuclear spin system in the studied quantum dots. A new effect of the resonant optical pumping of nuclear spin polarization in an ensemble of the singly charged (In,Ga)As/GaAs quantum dots subjected to a transverse magnetic field is discussed. Nuclear spin resonances for all isotopes in the quantum dots are detected in that way. In particular, transitions between the states split off from the ±1/2 doublets by the nuclear quadrupole interaction are identified.  相似文献

The time-resolved Hanle effect is examined for negatively charged InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots. Experimental data are analyzed by using an original approach to separate behavior of the longitudinal and transverse components of nuclear polarization. This made it possible to determine the rise and decay times of each component of nuclear polarization and their dependence on transverse magnetic field strength. The rise and decay times of the longitudinal component of nuclear polarization (parallel to the applied field) were found to be almost equal (approximately 5 ms). An analysis of the transverse component of nuclear polarization shows that the corresponding rise and decay times differ widely and strongly depend on magnetic field strength, increasing from a few to tens of milliseconds with an applied field between 20 and 100 mT. Current phenomenological models fail to explain the observed behavior of nuclear polarization. To find an explanation, an adequate theory of spin dynamics should be developed for the nuclear spin system of a quantum dot under conditions of strong quadrupole splitting.  相似文献

A 2D photonic crystal optical switch is proposed based on a rods-in-air square-lattice photonic crystal by removing two cross-lines of rods from a 2D square-lattice photonic crystal to form four optical channels. The simulation results show that, when inserting a single rod along the diagonal line of the intersection area of two removed cross-lines of rods, the position of the single inserted rod determines how much incident energy goes into different channels. In the case of transverse magnetic (TM) Gaussian point source, time domain simulation shows that up to 87.3% of the incident energy can be switched into a channel, which is vertical to the source channel. Because there are two diagonal lines in the intersection area of two removed cross-lines of rods, the optical switch feature is achieved by shifting the inserted rod between two diagonal lines. It is also found that the magnitude of the reflected wave in the source channel varies greatly with spatial position of the single inserted rod. The larger the magnitude of the reflected wave in the source channel, the less the energy that goes into the switched channel. The time delay between the incident wave and the reflected wave in the source channel is also related to the position of the single inserted rod. In addition, the large time delay between the incident wave and the reflected wave in the source channel shows that the reflected wave encounters many reflections with the walls of the source channel, instead of waves reflected back from the single inserted rod.  相似文献

Based on the reported physical parameters for hexagonal system solids,we have calculated the effects of anisotropy on polarization of plane P-wave propagation.Herein we report the results of calculations and the newly observed physical phenomena.It is found that,for a given propagation,if the polarization is parallel to the wave vector,so also to the Poynting vector.In such a case,the phase velocity is identical to the energy velocity;the quasi P-wave degenerates to a pure P-wave along the propagation.It is also noted that if the polarization is parallel to the Poynting vector but not to the wave vector,the propagating wave cannot be a pure P-wave.Furthermore,the polarization in a quasi P-wave may deviate from the wave vector for more than 45°,but the deviation from the Poynting vector is always less than 45°.The energy velocity of a quasi SV-wave can be larger than that of the quasi P-wave in some propagation directions,even though the phase velocity of a quasi SV-wave may never be larger than either the phase velocity or energy velocity of the quasi P-wave.Finally,in case of parameters ε=0 and δ*≠0,the polarization of a quasi P-wave has an observed symmetry at a 45°phase angle.The anisotropy of a hexagonal system solid determines if a pure P-wave can be created and what the propagation direction is for a plane wave propagating inside such a hexagonal system solid.  相似文献

Stability of highly charged metal clusters in the electric field of an external ion is investigated with the classical liquid drop model. We study the optimum shape of the cluster which has a local minimum of the total energy, taking account of the effects of the surface charge polarization on the Coulomb energy and the cluster deformation on the surface energy. We find that the cluster deformation greatly affects the total energy of the system and that a cluster with a fissility larger than some critical value 0.7-0.8 can become unstable against deformation. We investigate the local competition between the Coulomb force and the surface tension at the cluster surface and show that the surface charge polarization which is induced by the external electric field significantly affects the shape of the cluster and its stability. The microwave electromagnetic properties of Co2-Y hexagonal ferrite single rod and paired rods are demonstrated using a standard waveguide method. With the sweeping of the bias magnetic field, the ferromagnetic resonance occurs twice in the transmission spectra of single ferrite rod, which are induced by the self-bias magnetization and the external field magnetization, respectively. The zero/low-field resonance is determined by the shape anisotropy mainly, and disappears as the rod?s aspect ratio is relatively low. For the paired rods, when the interval between two parallel rods is small, the zero/low-field resonance vanishes due to the dipolar interaction between two rods.  相似文献

Free energy of semiflexible polymers and structure of interfaces   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The free energy of semiflexible polymers is calculated as a functional of the compositional scalar order parameter and the orientational order parameter of second-rank tensor Sij on the basis of a microscopic model of wormlike chains with variable segment lengths. We use a density functional theory and a gradient expansion to evaluate the entropic part of the free energy, which is given in a power series of .The interaction term of the free energy is derived with a random phase approximation. For the rigid rod limit, the nematic-isotropic transition point is given by , N and w being the degree of polymerization and the anisotropic interaction parameter, respectively, and the degree of ordering at the transition point is 0.33448. We also find that the contour length of polymer chains becomes larger in a nematic phase than in an isotropic phase. Interface profiles are obtained numerically for some typical cases. In the neighborhood of isotropic-isotropic interfaces, polymer chains tend to align parallel to the interface on the polymer-rich side and perpendicular on the poor side. When an isotropic region and a nematic region coexist, orientational order parallel to the interface is preferred in the nematic region. We consider surfaces with disordered charge distribution. The disorder can be caused by mobile charges, as for example in mixed lipid bilayers, or by weakly charged surfaces where charge regulation takes place (e.g. carboxyl groups). Using Monte-Carlo simulation methods we find for quenched as well as annealed disordered charge distributions counterion densities close to the surface that are significantly larger than for ordered regularly spaced surface ions. Our field-theoretic results agree well with results obtained from Monte-Carlo simulations of the system. Furthermore, we obtain expressions for the effective interaction between charged colloids and charged rods close to a charged surface and discuss the effect of the surface-ion mobility and polarization charges on the interaction. In general, polarization effects as well as surface-ion mobility lead to a weakening of the effective interaction between charged objects.  相似文献

脉冲磁约束线形空心阴极放电形成的大面积等离子体片可应用于等离子体天线、隐身及模拟超音速飞行器表面的等离子体鞘套. 本文首次利用实测等离子体片电子密度时空分布和横向场传播矩阵法, 研究了电磁波在等离子体片中反射率、透射率、吸收率随频率及脉冲放电时间的变化特征. 结果表明: 极化方向平行磁场的电磁波, 在小于截止频率的低频带内具有较高的反射率和吸收率, 增大电流, 反射率增加, 吸收率下降, 在大于截止频率的高频带内反射率和吸收率较低, 增大电流, 透射率下降, 吸收率升高; 极化方向垂直磁场的电磁波在高混杂谐振频率附近存在吸收率明显增强的吸收带, 谐振吸收峰值与放电电流无关; 脉冲放电期间, 电磁波的反射率、透射率与吸收率由不稳定过渡到稳定的时间约为100 μs, 过渡时间随着放电电流的增加而增大, 极化方向垂直磁场、小于截止频率的电磁波在稳定放电阶段谐振吸收较强. 本文的研究成果对利用等离子体片实现对电磁波的稳定高反射作用具有重要意义.  相似文献

We investigate nematic order in vibrated granular rods confined to a small quasi-2D container less than 10 rod lengths in diameter. As rod density ρ increases, patterning shifts from bipolar to uniform alignment. We find that a continuum liquid crystal free energy functional captures key patterning features down to almost the particle size. By fitting theory to experiments, we estimate the relative values of bend and splay elastic constants and wall anchoring. We find that splay is softer than bend for all ρ and rod lengths tested, while the ratio of the average elastic constant to wall anchoring increases with ρ.  相似文献

In a high-temperature approximation, theoretical consideration is given to dynamic polarization of nuclei within the framework of the EPR spin-temperature concept. We show that the maximum polarization of nuclei can be attained at a certain value of the detuning of an SHF-field if the intensity of the latter is fixed. The possibility of determining some relaxation parameters of the system by the value of this detuning at a high value of the saturating field is shown. In the presence of a trial field, the effect of a nuclear Zeeman subsystem on the time of transverse relaxation T2 is evaluated. We formulate and apply a microscopic self-consistent theory for the dynamic transverse confinement field in solutions of zero-excluded-volume rods based solely on topological entanglements. In agreement with the phenomenological tube model, an infinitely deep potential is predicted. However, strong anharmonicities are found to qualitatively soften localization, in quantitative agreement with experiments on heavily entangled biopolymer solutions. Predictions are also made for the effect of rod alignment on the transverse diffusion constant, tube diameter, and confinement force.  相似文献

We present theoretical analysis of plasmon dispersion in single-walled metallic carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in the presence of low-frequency electromagnetic radiation, based on classical electrodynamic formulations and linearized hydrodynamic model. We assume that metallic carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are charged due to the field emission, and hence the metallic nanotubes can be regarded as charged dust rods surrounded by degenerate electrons and ions. Calculations are performed for the transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) waves, respectively, by solving the Maxwell and hydrodynamic equations with appropriate boundary conditions.  相似文献

The photon magnetic moment for radiation propagating in magnetized vacuum is defined as a pseudotensor quantity, proportional to the external electromagnetic field tensor. After expanding the eigenvalues of the polarization operator in powers of \(k^2\) , we obtain approximate dispersion equations (cubic in \(k^2\) ), and analytic solutions for the photon magnetic moment, valid for low momentum and/or large magnetic field. The paramagnetic photon experiences a redshift, with opposite sign to the gravitational one, which differs for parallel and perpendicular polarizations. It is due to the drain of photon transverse momentum and energy by the external field. By defining an effective transverse momentum, the constancy of the speed of light orthogonal to the field is guaranteed. We conclude that the propagation of the photon non-parallel to the magnetic direction behaves as if there is a quantum compression of the vacuum or a warp of space-time in an amount depending on its angle with regard to the field.  相似文献

Subwavelength optical imaging through a metallic nanorod array   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We propose a subwavelength imaging system without a lens or a mirror but with an array of metallic nanorods. The near-field components of dipole sources were plasmonically transferred through the rod array to reproduce the source distribution in the other side. We calculated the field distribution at the different planes of imaging process using the finite-difference time-domain algorithm and found that the spatial resolution was 40 nm given by the rod size and spacing. A typical configuration is a hexagonal arrangement of silver rods of 50 nm height and 20 nm diameter. We also show that the image formation highly depends on the coherence and the polarization of the source distribution and the source-array distance.  相似文献

The layer polarizations and average polarizations of multi-surface ferroelectric thin films described by the transverse Ising model (TIM) have been studied within the framework of a Green’s function technique. The effects of the exchange interactions and transverse field parameters on the polarizations are discussed systemically. By performing a higher-order decoupling to the Fermi-type Green’s functions, the numerical results beyond those of the usual mean-field approximation are obtained. It is shown that the larger the exchange interaction, the larger the layer polarization and the average polarization; the larger the transverse field, the smaller the polarization.  相似文献
