The originally developed reflection method of caustics is presented for application to cracks in mechanically anisotropic materials such as fiber-reinforced composites. The derived solutions for the combination of crack-opening modes I and II show that the size of the dark spot depends on the load intensity, whereas its shape depends strongly on the mechanical properties of the material, the orientation of the crack tip and the mixed-mode mixture. The evaluation of optical effects is possible using the diameter-measuring method or the advanced multipoint overdeterministic data reduction method. To find the exact position of caustics, the experimental images are analyzed by the simple boundary value method and a more sophisticated differential method, which is accomplished by shifting the real image onto the gradient image. The standard experimental testing procedure is performed for cracks oriented 0 deg, 45 deg and 90 deg to the material axes in carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer composites.  相似文献

Nonclassical problems of fracture and failure mechanics that have been analyzed by the author and his collaborators at the S. P. Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics (Kiev, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) during the past forty years are considered in brief. The results of the analysis are presented in a form that would be quite informative for the majority of experts interested in various fundamental and applied aspects of fracture and failure problems including the identification of related mechanisms. This paper was prepared on invitation of the Editorial Board of the journal “Annals. The European Academy of Sciences” and may be considered as an Extended Pascal Medal Lecture (The 2007 Blaise Pascal Medal in Materials Sciences of the EAS) This is an updated edition of the author’s lecture prepared at the invitation of the Annals—The European Academy of Sciences Magazine on the occasion of awarding him the 2007 Blaise Pascal Medal in Materials Sciences by the EAS. The author’s speech at the award ceremony at the General Assembly of the Academy has already been published in International Applied Mechanics [75]. 应用爆炸加载的透射式动焦散线测试系统,分析了有机玻璃切槽孔爆破模型的裂纹动态特征变化规律。比较了不同切槽角度、切槽深度的定向断裂裂纹尖端的扩展长度、扩展速度和动态应力强度因子。初步探讨了切槽爆破的动态效应,研究表明切槽孔爆破早期裂纹破坏模式为爆炸拉应力波作用下的I型快速扩展裂纹,裂纹尖端拉应力集中积聚的较大应变能维持了爆炸裂纹进一步扩展,裂纹尖端扩展后期表现为P波、S波共同作用下的复合型扩展特征。切槽角为60时获得的定向断裂效果最好,合理切槽深度为炮孔半径的1/4~1/2。  相似文献

Inter-contact force analysis of impacted disk assembly by dynamic caustics   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The caustic method was utilized to study the contact force transmission in disk assemblies under impact load. The mapping equations were obtained based on the first invariant of the stress components in the disk subject to a normal concentrated force, and a characteristic dimension of the maximum size in the caustic curve was proposed to evaluate the contact force between the disks. Transient patterns of the caustic shadows were recorded by means of a high-speed camera of off-focus imaging, then the histories of the inter-contact forces among the disks were obtained with respect to the conditions of different masses and heights of the falling hammers. The influence of the impact loading and impulsive velocity was analyzed with respect to the force responses of the disk assembly, the double-peak phenomenon with comparison to the initial masses, and the energy dissipation of the systems under impact of different momentums. 断裂力学理论从1921年Griffith研究玻璃的脆性断裂问题开始,经历了从线弹性体系到弹塑性以及蠕变理论体系、从单参数到多参数体系和从理想的二维平面理论到实际三维含裂纹结构的三维断裂理论的发展历程。针对应力强度因子K和J积分以及C(t)积分的计算方法从理想化模型的理论计算发展到实际复杂工程结构裂纹体计算的各种商业软件平台以及专业的断裂理论分析平台。尤其是随着计算机技术的发展,对三维含裂结构的静态和扩展裂纹的计算模拟已经能够融入计算机辅助设计。结合本研究组近30年来在三维疲劳断裂理论和应用研究方面的体会,简述了三维计算断裂力学从裂纹体应力应变分析和断裂参数计算到三维蠕变断裂和疲劳裂纹扩展模拟的国内外进展,并对涉及的计算方法,包括原子尺度和跨尺度的计算模拟,以及目前面临的挑战性问题作了简要介绍和分析。  相似文献

In this paper, the dynamic propagation problem of a mixed-mode crack was studied by means of the experimental method of caustics. The initial curve and caustic equations were derived under the mixed-mode dynamic condition. A multi-point measurement method for determining the dynamic stress intensity factors,K I d , andK II d , and the position of the crack tip was developed. Several other methods were adopted to check this method, and showed that it has a good precision. Finally, the dynamic propagating process of a mixed-mode crack in the three-point bending beam specimen was investigated with our method.  相似文献

The boundary and loading conditions in many dynamic fracture test methods are frequently not well defined and, therefore, introduce a degree of uncertainty in the modeling of the experiment to extract the dynamic fracture resistance for a rapidly propagating crack. A new dynamic fracture test method is presented that overcomes many of these difficulties. In this test, a precracked, three-point bend specimen is loaded by a transmitter bar that is impacted by a striker bar fired from a gas gun. Different levels of energy can be imparted to the specimen by varying the speed and length of the striker to induce different crack growth rates in the material. The specimen is instrumented with a crack ladder gage, crack-opening displacement gage and strain gages to develop requisite data to determine toughness. Typical data for AISI 4340 steel specimen are presented. A simple quasi-dynamic analysis model for deducing the fracture toughness for a running crack from these data is presented, and the results are compared with independent measurements.  相似文献

The scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) is a recently developed numerical method combining advantages of both finite element methods (FEM) and boundary element methods (BEM) and with its own special features as well. One of the most prominent advantages is its capability of calculating stress intensity factors (SIFs) directly from the stress solutions whose singularities at crack tips are analytically represented. This advantage is taken in this study to model static and dynamic fracture problems. For static problems, a remeshing algorithm as simple as used in the BEM is developed while retaining the generality and flexibility of the FEM. Fully-automatic modelling of the mixed-mode crack propagation is then realised by combining the remeshing algorithm with a propagation criterion. For dynamic fracture problems, a newly developed series-increasing solution to the SBFEM governing equations in the frequency domain is applied to calculate dynamic SIFs. Three plane problems are modelled. The numerical results show that the SBFEM can accurately predict static and dynamic SIFs, cracking paths and load-displacement curves, using only a fraction of degrees of freedom generally needed by the traditional finite element methods.The project supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (50579081) and the Australian Research Council (DP0452681)The English text was polished by Keren Wang.  相似文献

Material failure by crack propagation essentially involves a concentration of large displacement-gradients near a crack's tip, even at scales where no irreversible deformation and energy dissipation occurs. This physical situation provides the motivation for a systematic gradient expansion of general nonlinear elastic constitutive laws that goes beyond the first order displacement-gradient expansion that is the basis for linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM). A weakly nonlinear fracture mechanics theory was recently developed by considering displacement-gradients up to second order. The theory predicts that, at scales within a dynamic lengthscale ℓ from a crack's tip, significant logr displacements and 1/r displacement-gradient contributions arise. Whereas in LEFM the 1/r singularity generates an unbalanced force and must be discarded, we show that this singularity not only exists but is also necessary in the weakly nonlinear theory. The theory generates no spurious forces and is consistent with the notion of the autonomy of the near-tip nonlinear region. The J-integral in the weakly nonlinear theory is also shown to be path-independent, taking the same value as the linear elastic J-integral. Thus, the weakly nonlinear theory retains the key tenets of fracture mechanics, while providing excellent quantitative agreement with measurements near the tip of single propagating cracks. As ℓ is consistent with lengthscales that appear in crack tip instabilities, we suggest that this theory may serve as a promising starting point for resolving open questions in fracture dynamics.  相似文献

采用两种圆孔裂缝平台巴西圆盘试件(一种为直径分别为42、80、122、155 mm的几何相似试件,另一种为直径80 mm、仅裂缝长度不同的单一尺寸试件)对岩石动态断裂韧度的尺寸效应进行了研究。给出了在霍普金森压杆系统上对试件进行径向撞击产生的应变波形和断裂模式。实验结果表明,对于几何相似试件,动态断裂韧度的测试值随着尺寸的增大而增大,而对于单一尺寸试件,其测试值随着中心裂缝长度的增加呈现先增大后减小的趋势。裂缝前端的断裂过程区长度和孕育时间是岩石动态断裂韧度测试值表现为尺寸效应的主要原因,为了减小尺寸效应,建立了考虑这两个参数在空间-时间域对动态应力强度因子的分布进行积分后再平均来确定岩石动态断裂韧度的方法。  相似文献

基于有限断裂法和比例边界有限元法提出了一种裂缝开裂过程模拟的数值模型。采用基于有限断裂法的混合断裂准则作为起裂及扩展的判断标准,当最大环向应力和能量释放率同时达到其临界值时,裂缝扩展。结合多边形比例边界有限元法,可以半解析地求解裂尖区域附近的应力场和位移场,在裂尖附近无需富集即可获得高精度的解。计算能量释放率时,只需将裂尖多边形内的裂尖位置局部调整,无需改变整体网格的分布,网格重剖分的工作量降至最少。裂缝扩展步长通过混合断裂准则确定,避免了人为假设的随意性,并可以实现裂缝变步长扩展的模拟,更符合实际情况。通过对四点剪切梁的复合型裂缝扩展过程的模拟,对本文模型进行了验证,并应用于重力坝模型的裂缝扩展模拟,计算结果表明,本文提出的模型简单易行且精度较高。  相似文献

This paper contains a study of the problems of crack propagation under static stresses and under transient stress waves. Within the assumption of linear elastic fracture mechanics, an integral-equation method has been developed for the analysis of these problems. The method has been applied to: (a) the determination of the stress intensity factor at a given loading and a crack-tip velocity and (b) the determination of the crack-tip motion under a given transient loading.  相似文献

A material force method is proposed for evaluating the energy release rate and work rate of dissipation for fracture in inelastic materials. The inelastic material response is characterized by an internal variable model with an explicitly defined free energy density and dissipation potential. Expressions for the global material and dissipation forces are obtained from a global balance of energy-momentum that incorporates dissipation from inelastic material behavior. It is shown that in the special case of steady-state growth, the global dissipation force equals the work rate of dissipation, and the global material force and J-integral methods are equivalent. For implementation in finite element computations, an equivalent domain expression of the global material force is developed from the weak form of the energy-momentum balance. The method is applied to model problems of cohesive fracture in a remote K-field for viscoelasticity and elastoplasticity. The viscoelastic problem is used to compare various element discretizations in combination with different schemes for computing strain gradients. For the elastoplastic problem, the effects of cohesive and bulk properties on the plastic dissipation are examined using calculations of the global dissipation force.  相似文献

为研究预制裂纹不同偏移距离时运动裂纹与空孔的相互作用规律,采用动态焦散线实验系统,将预制裂纹的偏移距离设定为唯一变量,对含空孔的有机玻璃(PMMA)试件进行冲击三点弯实验。研究表明,存在两个临界距离:(6 mm (2 R )、9 mm (3 R )),在该偏移距离下,裂纹扩展轨迹、动态断裂特性发生显著改变:(1) 预制裂纹偏移距离不大于3 mm时,裂纹贯穿空孔,发生二次起裂,且二次起裂的速度与应力强度因子显著大于一次起裂,无偏移时裂纹轨迹的分形维数为最小值;(2) 偏移距离增大至6 mm时,裂纹不再贯穿空孔,空孔对裂纹先吸引后排斥,裂纹速度与应力强度因子先减小后增大,裂纹轨迹的分形维数达到最大值;(3) 偏移距离大于6 mm时,空孔对裂纹的吸引作用逐渐减小,大于9 mm后,空孔对裂纹的吸引不再显著,裂纹起裂后即向落锤加载方向扩展直至贯穿试件。

Probability of failure (pf) of a structure is usually calculated for a specified set of statistical parameters (mean, standard deviation, and probability distribution) that characterize random variables. This approach may not be efficient in cases where one would like to know the effect of variations in statistical parameters on the probability of failure. A method based on generating and analyzing randomly selected statistical parameters is proposed. The method consists of generating databases of mean and coefficient of variation (COV = mean/standard deviation) values of relevant fracture mechanics variables through a random process. The method was applied to surface cracks in a flat wide plate loaded under elastic conditions. Probability of failure was calculated for each database record using the first-order reliability method (FORM). Multiple linear regression analyses of the database records were performed with pf as dependent variable and statistical parameters as independent variables. The predicted pf values were in very good agreement with the directly calculated pf values for the specified variations of statistical parameters (±10%, ±15%, and ±20%), except those for fracture toughness and tensile stress, where variations should be limited to ±10% and ±15% ranges.  相似文献
