This article is a continuation of [J. Math. Sci., 99, No.5, 1541–1547 (2000)] devoted to the validity of the Lax formula (cited in the article of Crandall, Ishii, and Lions [Bull. AMS, 27, No.1, 1–67 (2000)])
for a solution to the Hamilton–Jacobi nonlinear partial differential equation
where the Cauchy data are now a function semicontinuous from below, is the usual norm in , , and is a positive evolution parameter. We proved that the Lax formula solves the Cauchy problem (2) at all points , fixed save for an exceptional set of points R of the F type, having zero Lebesgue measure. In addition, we formulate a similar Lax-type formula without proof for a solution to a new nonlinear equation of the Hamilton–Jacobi-type:

Suppose A generates a strongly continuous linear group on a Banach space X and B is a linear operator on X. It is shown that an extension of generates a strongly continuous semigroup if and only if the family of operators has an appropriate evolution system. This produces simple sufficient conditions for an extension of to generate a strongly continuous semigroup, including
(1)  being m-dissipative and for all x in the domain of B; or
(2)  being m-dissipative and being a commuting family of operators with
dense. This is applied to many differential operators; for at least one class of applications, the semigroup is generated by the closure of and the equivalence between semigroups and evolution systems enables us to construct it explicitly. In all the applications, including the sufficient conditions (1) and (2) above, the semigroup generated by an extension of is given by the Trotter product formula

In this paper we introduce a class of maps referred to as generalised twists and examine them in connection with the Euler–Lagrange equations associated with over . The main result here is that in even dimensions the latter equations admit infinitely many solutions, modulo isometries, amongst such maps. In this paper, we study existence of nontrivial solutions to the elliptic equation
and to the elliptic system

A d-web in ( ,0) is linear if all the leaves are (pieces of) hyperplanes in and is algebraic if it is associated, by duality, to a nondegenerate algebraic curve in of degree d.
