We have presented an investigation of the induced focusing in Kerr media of two laser beams, the pump beam and the probe beam, which could be either Gaussian or elliptic Gaussian or a combination of the two. We have used variational formalism to derive relevant beam-width equations. Among several important findings, the finding that a very week probe beam can be guided and focused when power of both beams are well below their individual threshold for self-focusing, is a noteworthy one. It has been found that induced focusing is not possible for laser beams of any wavelength and beam radius. In case both beams are elliptic Gaussian, we have shown that when power of both beams is above a certain threshold value then the effective radius of both beams collapses and collapse distance depends on power. Moreover, it has been found that induced focusing can be employed to convert a circular Gaussian beam into an elliptic Gaussian beam.  相似文献

Characteristics of propagation of bright screening solitons are studied in a photorefractive waveguide. The investigation is performed under paraxial wave approximation and Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin–Jefferys approximation. A Gaussian ansatz for the soliton shape is used instead of the numerical solutions. The planar waveguide structure intensifies the self-focussing while decreasing the minimum or threshold power required for self trapping. The waveguide structure embedded in the crystal can self trap a soliton of power lower than the threshold power. As the waveguide parameter increases, minimum required power to self trap the beam decreases. The existence of bistable states is also predicted. Four regimes of power are identified in which the solitons behaviour is studied. Propagation of screening solitons in a photorefractive waveguide is studied in the absence of the photovoltaic and pyroelectric effect for the first time.  相似文献

Self-compression of femtosecond pulses in noble gases with an input power close to the self-focusing threshold has been investigated experimentally and theoretically. It is demonstrated that either multiphoton ionization (MPI) or space-time focusing and self-steepening effects can induce pulse shortening, but they predominate at different beam intensities during the propagation. The latter effects play a key role in the final pulse self-compression. By choosing an appropriate focusing parameter, action distance of the space-time focusing and self-steepening effects can be lengthened, which can promote a shock pulse structure with a duration as short as two optical cycles. It is also found that, for our calculation cases in which an input pulse power is close to the self-focusing threshold, either group velocity dispersion (GVD) or multiphoton absorption (MPA) has a negligible influence on pulse characteristics in the propagation process.  相似文献

The effect of parametric reflection of a signal beam from a focused reference beam has been investigated. It is shown that focusing reduces a pump power reflection threshold but causes certain distortions due to the reduction of the area of the parametric mirror and occurrence of its longitudinal curvature. These effects limit the width and angle of incidence of the signal beam. To decrease the sum wave power, it is proposed to introduce an additional dispersion mismatch.  相似文献

The steady state nonlinear propagation of an intense, circularly polarized electromagnetic beam in an inhomogeneous magnetized plasma has been investigated in paraxial approximation. The laser induces a large oscillatory velocity on electrons, raising their mass and lowering the plasma frequency. Further, rising due to cyclotron resonance effect. The propagation of the electromagnetic waves in magnetized plasma in both the extraordinary and ordinary mode is analyzed. The nonlinearity in dielectric function is considered in presence of external magnetic field due to saturation effects for arbitrary large intensity, which leads to focusing/defocusing of the beam. The focusing effect along with magnetic field helps in the process of anomalous penetration of the beam by enhancing the depletion of the plasma from the axial region. The penetration increases with the incident beam power up to some critical value beyond which it rises abruptly when all electrons have been driven out of the axis. The cyclotron resonance effect awfully supports the laser beam to propagate inside the overdense plasma region. Numerical computations are performed for typical parameters of relativistic laser–plasma interaction applicable for underdense and overdense plasma.  相似文献

The properties of partially coherent Airy beam propagating in turbulent media are investigated. Firstly the variations in the intensity profile and the location of the Airy beam peak with respect to dislocation and width parameters are examined. On the source plane, it is shown that there is a threshold value of the dislocation parameter which determines whether the beam peak will lie on the negative or positive side of the axis. The changes in source beam power and source beam size with respect to dislocation and width parameters are also examined. Then analysis is made for partially coherent Airy beam propagating in turbulence against variations in propagation distance, dislocation and width parameters, structure constant and partial coherence. It is found that the peak of the Airy beam will always shift to the right for increasing propagation distance. But this shift will become less as the dislocation and width parameters are increased. Finally it is shown that higher levels of turbulence and partial coherence will lead to more spreading and shift the beam peak more toward the on-axis position.  相似文献

In this paper the propagation of elegant Hermite-cosh-Gaussian, elegant Laguerre Gaussian, and Bessel Gaussian beams through a Kerr left-handed metamaterial(LHM) slab have been studied. A split-step Fourier method is used to investigate the propagation of laser beams through this media. Numerical simulation shows that Gaussian beams have different focusing behaviors in a Kerr LHM slab with positive or negative nonlinearity. Beam focusing happens in slabs with positive nonlinearity and not in slabs with negative nonlinearity; however, negative nonlinearity is required for a Kerr LHM slab to act like a lens. Additionally, the focusing properties of beams can be controlled by controlling the thickness of the slab or the input power of the incident beam. A multilayer structure is also proposed to have beam focusing by thinner slabs and passing longer distances.  相似文献

针对用于产生光镊的环形光束,利用分步傅里叶-贝塞尔变换算法,对二维环形超高斯光束的非线性传输及聚焦过程进行了数值模拟,给出了环形光束聚焦场附近的光强分布,并分析了非线性调制对聚焦性质(包括焦面中心光强、焦面光强的横向分布、轴上光强和光束质量)的影响.研究表明,从聚焦角度来看,非线性调制中的位相调制比振幅调制对环形光束聚焦性质的影响程度要大;从非线性传输角度来看,随着非线性介质长度的增加,位相调制和振幅调制对环形光束聚焦性质各有不同程度的加剧,其中非线性作用对振幅调制的影响要比位相调制明显.  相似文献

In this work, we report a model for accurately calculating the focal volumes corresponding to astigmatic elliptical beams used in fs-laser waveguide writing. The model is based on the use of the ABCD matrix formalism for the propagation of a Gaussian beam. The code includes the effects of propagation on the astigmatic elliptical beam, and the effects of beam truncation and diffraction at the entrance pupil of the focusing objective due to beam clipping when overfilling the pupil. The results predict that for a given astigmatism value and propagation distance it is possible to efficiently suppress the astigmatic focus closer to the surface. This explains previous experimental results where single structure waveguides with controllable aspect-ratio were fabricated using astigmatic-elliptical beams. Furthermore, we investigate the respective roles of astigmatism and beam propagation, as well as the strong impact of truncation and diffraction effects caused by clipping the beam at the pupil of the focusing optics. Finally, based on the results from our model, we present some practical considerations in terms of beam propagation and phase wrapping constraints.  相似文献

In this paper, using parabolic equation approach, coupled propagation of two coaxially co-propagating and mutually incoherent bright cylindrical beams in saturable nonlinear medium has been investigated. Considering the coupling coefficient equal to unity (κ=1), a detailed account of formation of spatial soliton pair (i.e. both beams are stationary trapped) and spatial breather pair (i.e. width of each beam oscillates with the propagation distance) has been provided and existence of spatially trapped breather pair (i.e. average width of each breather of the pair does not change with the propagation distance) has been shown. Conditions of formation of trapped spatial breather pair and their existence line has also been revealed for arbitrary beam width ratio of the beams. It is revealed that spatial soliton pairs are just a special case of trapped breather pair. The regions (conditions) of mutual-focusing and mutual-defocusing of spatial soliton pair/breather pair have also been identified. Lastly, the law of trapped breather pair formation is proposed.  相似文献

当高功率激光通过Kerr非线性介质传输时,Kerr效应会严重影响激光的传输特性.实际应用中常遇到像散光束.迄今为止,像散光束传输特性的研究大都局限于在线性介质中的传输,而在非线性介质中传输的研究较少,且还未涉及像散激光束通过含光学系统的Kerr非线性介质传输变换的研究.本文主要研究Kerr效应对聚焦光束像散特性和焦移特性的影响,以及聚焦像散高斯光束的自聚焦焦距和光束焦点调控.在光束扩展情况下,推导出了聚焦像散高斯光束在Kerr非线性介质中传输的束宽、束腰位置和焦移的解析公式,研究表明:在自聚焦介质中,随着自聚焦作用增强(如光束功率增强),光束像散越强,但焦移越小;在自散焦介质中,随着自散焦作用增强(如光束功率增强),光束像散越弱,但焦移越大.另一方面,在光束自聚焦情况下,推导出了自聚焦焦距的解析公式,研究表明利用光束像散可以调控光束焦点个数.  相似文献

Real time inverse filter focusing through iterative time reversal   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
In order to achieve an optimal focusing through heterogeneous media we need to build the inverse filter of the propagation operator. Time reversal is an easy and robust way to achieve such an inverse filter in nondissipative media. However, as soon as losses appear in the medium, time reversal is not equivalent to the inverse filter anymore. Consequently, it does not produce the optimal focusing and beam degradations may appear. In such cases, we showed in previous works that the optimal focusing can be recovered by using the so-called spatiotemporal inverse filter technique. This process requires the presence of a complete set of receivers inside the medium. It allows one to reach the optimal focusing even in extreme situations such as ultrasonic focusing through human skull or audible sound focusing in strongly reverberant rooms. But, this technique is time consuming and implied fastidious numerical calculations. In this paper we propose a new way to process this inverse filter focusing technique in real time and without any calculation. The new process is based on iterative time reversal process. Contrary to the classical inverse filter technique, this iteration does not require any computation and achieves the inverse filter in an experimental way using wave propagation instead of computational power. The convergence from time reversal to inverse filter during the iterative process is theoretically explained. Finally, the feasibility of this iterative technique is experimentally demonstrated for ultrasound applications.  相似文献

A theoretical model for the effect of dust grains on the self‐filamentation of a Gaussian electromagnetic beam propagating in a fully ionized plasma has been developed by employing the energy balance of the plasma constituents, perturbed electron and ion concentrations, and temperature. In this model, neutral atom ionization, re‐integration and accumulation of electrons and ions, photoelectric emission of electrons from the surface of dust grains, as well as elastic and charging collisions have also been considered. The effective dielectric constant in the presence of dust grains has been constructed. The effect of temporal growth of dust grains on various plasma parameters for different values of the dust density has been explored. The variation of the beam width with the normalized channel of propagation has been observed for distinct dust densities and dust charge states. It is observed that the non‐linearity induced by the effective dielectric constant in the presence of dust grains increases the self‐filamentation of the beam, thus enhancing the effective critical power with the dust density. Some of the outcomes of our approach are in line with experimental observations. These outcomes may be useful for explaining space and laboratory plasma experiments as well as for future studies in complex plasmas.  相似文献

Nonparaxial and nonlinear propagation of a short intense laser beam in a parabolic plasma channel is analyzed by means of the variational method and nonlinear dynamics. The beam propagation properties are classified by five kinds of behaviors. In particularly, the electromagnetic solitary wave for finite pulse laser is found beside the other four propagation cases including beam periodically oscillating with defocussing and focusing amplitude, constant spot size, beam catastrophic focusing. It is also found that the laser pulse can be allowed to propagate in the plasma channel only when a certain relation for laser parameters and plasma channel parameters is satisfied. For the solitary wave, it may provide an effective way to obtain ultra-short laser pulse.  相似文献

For sinusoidal beams, minimization of scintillation index is carried out against the displacements parameters. It is found that x-y asymmetric cosh-Gaussian beam fulfills the requirements of such optimum beam. Our minimization procedure reveals that the optimum beam is achieved by continually focusing it at the chosen propagation length and by further adjusting displacements parameters to be propagation distance dependent. Scintillation index of thus constructed optimum beam is formulated and numerically evaluated. Our graphical comparisons entailing collimated and focused versions of cos-, cosh-Gaussian, annular-Gaussian and Gaussian beams show that the optimum beam yields the lowest scintillations provided that propagation range is less than or equal to the focusing distance.  相似文献

There has been very limited work on the application of time reversal to the propagation of audible frequency waves in mechanical structures. The present work concentrates on the application of time reversal to the focusing of audible range, flexural waves in an infinite beam, and to the detection of local heterogeneity in such a beam. Practical applications of time reversal of flexural waves in structures include vibration energy focusing, detection of vibratory or acoustic sources, and detection of defects in mechanical structures. An analytical model of flexural wave propagation in the beam as well as sensing and emission using piezoelectric transducers is presented. Time reversal experiments are conducted and compared to the model results in either a homogeneous beam or a beam with point mass heterogeneities. In the various situations tested, it is shown that time reversal effectively compensates the spreading in time of the impulse due to the dispersive propagation of flexural waves. One interesting aspect of this property is the generation of large amplitude impulsive responses in the beam using remote actuators. Finally, the "Decomposition de l'Operateur de Retournement Temporel" approach is examined to detect and localize point mass scatterers in the beam.  相似文献
