A kinematic model based on the superposition of p + p collisions, relativistic geometry and final-state hadronic rescattering is used to predict two-boson HBT parameters in √s NN = 2.76 TeV Pb + Pb collisions. A short proper time for hadronization is assumed. Previous calculations using this model which were performed for √s NN = 200 GeV Au + Au collisions were shown to describe reasonably well the trends of two-pion HBT in experiments carried out at that energy, giving the present predictions for Pb + Pb at higher energy some degree of credibility.  相似文献

The Regge pole plus cut model has been used to explain the data at the collider energies √s=546 and 630 GeV and the most recent differential cross-section results at √s=1.8 TeV. Predictions of the model at 1.8 and 40 TeV are compared with those of Bourrelyet al.  相似文献

We present measurements of charged particle production in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of √s = 0.9, 2.36 and 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events were collected using a single-arm minimum bias trigger, charged tracks are measured with high precision in the inner tracking system. Minimum bias analysis uses data samples at all three energies, while diffractive events are studied using a sample of events at √s = 7 TeV. To study diffractive interactions, the events that have hits on exactly one side of the ATLAS detector were selected. The charged particle multiplicity, pseudorapidity and transverse momentum spectra are analyzed and compared to the predictions by various Monte Carlo models.  相似文献

The CERN LHC collider will operate with lead ions at √s of 5.5 TeV/nucleon. The ATLAS detector, designed to study high-pT physics in the pp mode of the LHC, has the potential to study ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions in a full range of observables characterized extremely dense matter and the formation of a quark-gluon plasma. The ATLAS physics program includes global event measurements (particle multiplicities, transverse momentum), suppression of heavy-quarkonia production, jet quenching, and a study of ultraperipheral collisions. The possibility of measuring cross sections for the production of J/ψ mesons in fixed-target experiments with the proton and ion beams of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN (Switzerland) is considered. At the present time, measurements of charmonium production in proton-proton collisions at an energy of 7 TeV have begun at LHC. Previously, the production of J/ψ and ψ′ mesons was studied in the NA38, NA50, and NA60 fixed-target experiments with beams of the CERN synchrotron (SPS) and in the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC, Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA). A normal nuclear absorption of J/ψ mesons in proton-nucleus collisions and an enhanced, anomalous, suppression of the production of charmonium states in central collisions of relativistic nuclei were observed. At the present time, there are no theoretical models that could describe the entire body of experimental data. Measurements over a broad interval of proton and ion energies are required. Measurements of charmonium production using LHC beams with fixed targets in the energy range between the SPS and RHIC energies-a beam of 7-TeV protons (√s = 114.6 GeV) and a beam of 2.75-TeV/nucleon lead ions (√s = 71.8 GeV)-will provide an additional possibility for studying the charmonium-production mechanism. Estimates of the geometric acceptance, luminosity, and counting rate for the production of J/ψ mesons are presented.  相似文献

We consider the UED scenario and study the detectability of the first KK electron-positron pair at the ILC. A few hundred GeV KK electron decays into a nearly degenerate KK photon, which carries away missing energy, and the standard electron. The mass splitting between the KK electron and KK photon is controlled by the bulk-and brane-induced radiative corrections. We look for the signal event e + e + large missing energy for √s = 1 TeV and observe that with a few hundred fb−1 luminosity the signal can be deciphered from the standard model background. We briefly outline how the UED signals may be distinguished from the supersymmetric signals. This talk is based on a work the author did with Paramita Dey, Anirban Kundu and Amitava Raychaudhuri [1].  相似文献

We examine the predictions of gauge theories with colour excitation for the processppμ + μ X. Relative to the predictions of quark parton model (with three colours) we find enhancements as large as a factor 3 – 4 for the cross-sectionM 3 d 2 σ/dMdy|y=0 in the region 0·03 ≲M/√s ≲ 0·2 at √s=62 GeV,M being the invariant mass andy the rapidity of the muon pair. We study the sensitivity of this result to the colour gluon mass and the underlying parametrisation of the quark and gluon distribution functions.  相似文献

When analyzing two-particle correlations for identical pions in p + p collisions at √s = 0.9 and 7 TeV, significant background correlation structures are observed. The structures are also observed for pairs of non-identical pions and are reproduced by Monte-Carlo simulations. We analyze these structures quantitatively and propose methods to account for their impact on the system sizes extracted from the fits to the identical pion correlation functions.  相似文献

Light hadrons provide a convenient tool for studying the properties of hot and dense media formed in central collisions of relativistic heavy nuclei. The results obtained in the PHENIX experiment at the relativistic heavy-ion collider (RHIC, Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA) by measuring nuclearmodification factors for light hadrons in various colliding systems (pp, dAu, CuCu, and AuAu) at the c.m. energies of √s NN = 62.4 and 200 GeV are presented.  相似文献

ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is the LHC detector designed to measure nucleus-nucleus (AA) collisions where the formation of the Quark Gluon Plasma is expected. The experiment will also study proton-proton (pp) collisions at 14 TeV. Amongst the relevant observables to be investigated in pp collisions, the B-hadron cross-section is particularly interesting since it provides benchmarks for theoretical models and it is mandatory for understanding heavy flavour production in AA collisions. The performances of the ALICE muon spectrometer to measure B-hadron cross-section in pp collisions at 14 TeV via single muons are presented.  相似文献

We present the measurements of charged particle pseudorapidity distributions dNch/dη performed by the NA50 experiment in Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN SPS. Measurements were done at incident energies of 40 GeV (√s = 8.77 GeV) and 158 GeV (√s = 17.3 GeV) per nucleon over a broad impact parameter range. The multiplicity distributions are studied as a function of centrality using the number of participating nucleons(N part ), or the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions (Ncoll). Their values at midrapidity exhibit a linear scaling withN part at both energies. Particle yield increases approximately by a factor of 2 betweeny √s = 8.77 GeV and √s = 17.3 GeV.  相似文献

A model for multiparticle production process in high-energy hadronic collisions is proposed. In the centre of mass (CM) system of colliding particles the target and the projectile are assumed to pass through each other sharing energies allowed by kinematical constraints. Thus in app collision the energy associated with each is √S/2 (S being the square of the CM energy) which is taken to be the real variable that governs the number of particles produced. In the case of hadronnucleus collisions the projectile and the target ofv nucleons lying in a (Lorentz contracted) tube pass through each other sharing energies ⋍ √S A2, whereS AvS. Before the final state particles emerge from these systems, the constituents of the target, i.e.,v nucleons share equally (= √S A2v) the total energy associated with the target and become the centres from which final state particles stem out. Several results have been discussed.  相似文献

We present a measurement of the e + e K S K L cross section in the energy range √s = 1.04−1.38 GeV. For an energy of √s ≥ 1.2 GeV the cross section exceeds vector meson dominance model predictions with only ρ(770), ω(783), and ϕ(1020) mesons taken into account. The measured cross section agrees well with previous measurements. Published in Russian in Zhurnal éksperimental’noĭ i Teoreticheskoĭ Fiziki, 2006, Vol. 130, No. 5, pp. 831–839. We study the prospects for observing double parton scattering through four-muon final states, forming two opposite-sign muon pairs, in the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at 14 TeV centre of mass energy. We consider two special cases, namely double Drell–Yan and J/ψ-pair production. The kinematic properties and prospects for observing these processes are discussed. We find that the production rate depends strongly on the origin of the four muons, while many kinematic properties can be used to help identify the presence of double parton scattering events.  相似文献

Analytical formula for multiplicity distribution is derived in the QO approach, where chaotic and coherent fields are contained. Observed charged multiplicity distributions in Au + Au collisions at √s = 200 A GeV and in pp collisions at √s = 900 GeV are analyzed by the formula. Chaoticity parameters in the inclusive events estimated from the analysis of multiplicity distributions are compared with those estimated from the analysis of observed two-particle inclusive identical particle correlations.  相似文献

The PHOBOS detector has been used to study Au + Au collisions at√sNN = 56,130, and 200 GeV Several global observables have been measured and the results are compared with theoretical models. These observables include the charged-particle multiplicity measured as a function of beam energy, pseudo-rapidity, and centrality of the collision. A unique feature of the PHOBOS detector is its almost complete angular coverage such that these quantities can be studied over a pseudo-rapidity interval of |η|≤5.4. This allows for an almost complete integration of the total charged particle yield, which is found to be about N ch tot = 4200 ±470 at √sNN = 130 GeV and N ch tot = 5300 ±530 at √sNN = 200 GeV. The ratio of anti-particles to particles emitted in the mid-rapidity region has also been measured using the PHOBOS magnetic spectrometer. Of particular interest is the ratio of anti-protons to protons in the mid-rapidity region, which was found to be (i.e.921-1) at √sNN = 130 GeV. This high value suggests that an almost baryon-free region has been produced in the collisions.  相似文献

We examine the effects of mixing induced light heavy charged lepton neutral currents on the partial wave amplitude for the process l+lZZ (withl = e,μ or τ). By imposing the constraints that the amplitude should not exceed the perturbative unitarity limit at high energy (√s = Λ), we obtain bounds on light heavy charged lepton mixing parameter sin2(2θ L a ) where θ L a is the mixing angle of the ordinary charged lepton with its exotic partner. For Λ = 1 TeV, no bound is obtained on sin2 (2θ L a ) form E < 0.69 TeV. However, sin2 (2θ L a ) ≤ 1.52×10−5 form E = 5 TeV, sin2 (2θ L a ) ≤ 2.41 ×10−7 form E = 10 TeV. Similarity for Λ = ∞ no bound is obtained on sin2 (2θ L a ) for mE < 1.97 TeV and sin2 (2θ L a ) ≤ 0.15 form E = 5 TeV and sin2 (2θ L a ) ≤ 3.88×10-2 form E = 10 TeV.  相似文献

We present a preliminary result on a search for narrow-width resonances that decay intot-t pairs using 130 pb−1 of lepton + jets data inp-p collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV. No significant deviation is observed from prediction of the standard model, and upper limits at 95% confidence on the product of the production cross-section and its branching fraction tot-t are presented for narrow-width resonances, as a function of resonance massMx. We also use these limits to exclude the existence of a leptophobic top-color particle,X, withM x < 560 GeV/c2 and width Γx = 0.012M x .  相似文献

As B s -mesons will be produced abundantly at the LHC, the observability of the flavour-changing-neutral-current decay mode B s ϕμ+μ has been studied in CMS at the LHC centre-of-mass energy of 10 TeV. With an integrated luminosity of 100 pb−1, an upper limit of 6.7 × 10−6 on the branching ratio is expected to be obtained. The potential at 7 TeV with a luminosity of 1 fb−1 is expected to be better.  相似文献
