The semiempirical zero-differential-overlap molecular orbital model which was shown in earlier papers in this series to give a good account of the charge transfer and -* spectra of Fe(II) complexes with conjugated ligands such as 2,2-bipyridyl and 1,10-phenanthroline is extended to complexes having openshell ground states, such as those of Fe(III), and to complexes of Ru(II) and Ru(III). The results are used to assign the observed charge transfer and intra-ligand absorption bands to specific orbital transitions. Observed and calculated intensities are in good agreement: reasons are advanced for the much lower intensity of the charge transfer bands in Ru(III) compared to Ru(II) complexes.  相似文献

Thiol-type compounds are an important class of strong antioxidants and main determinants of total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of cellular homogenates. The TAC of thiol mixtures and the corresponding TEAC (trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity) values of individual thiols were determined by the CUPRAC (CUPric Reducing Antioxidant Capacity) method, and the results were compared with those found by reference assays for method validation. Synthetic mixtures of thiols were prepared, and the expected and found TAC values (in mM trolox (TR) equivalents) of these mixtures showed a good agreement. The technique of standard additions was performed for thiol mixtures and human serum, and the absorbance results confirmed that apparent chemical deviations from Beer's law were absent in the system. The CUPRAC results were compared with those of reference methods, namely 2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS)/persulphate and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP). As being a most important thiol (-SH) peptide at in vivo conditions, glutathione (GSH) showed a TEAC value of 0.57 in the CUPRAC method, as opposed to the corresponding value (1.51) in the ABTS/persulphate method. The ABTS/persulphate result was not in accordance with the reversible 1-e oxidation of GSH to the corresponding disulfide that is expected to occur under physiological conditions. FRAP did not give consistent results, and even at relatively high concentrations of GSH, the TEACFRAP value was only 0.07. The thiol-type antioxidant-bearing pharmaceuticals of Brunac eye drop, Trom and Mentopin effervescent tablets containing N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) were assayed with HPLC for comparison, and the obtained results for NAC were in accordance with those found with CUPRAC.  相似文献

We report on the application of a simple and versatile antioxidant capacity assay for dietary polyphenols, vitamin C and vitamin E utilizing the copper(II)-neocuproine (Cu(II)-Nc) reagent as the chromogenic oxidant, which we term the CUPRAC (cupric reducing antioxidant capacity) method. It involves mixing the antioxidant solution (directly or after acid hydrolysis) with solutions of CuCl2, neocuproine, and ammonium acetate at pH 7, and measuring the absorbance at 450 nm after 30 min. Slowly reacting antioxidants required an incubation at 50 °C for 20 min for color development. The flavonoid glycosides were hydrolyzed to their corresponding aglycones by refluxing in 1.2 M HCl-containing 50% MeOH for fully exhibiting their antioxidant potencies. Certain compounds also needed incubation after acid hydrolysis for color development. The CUPRAC absorbances of mixture constituents were additive, indicating lack of chemical deviations from Beer’s law. The CUPRAC antioxidant capacities of a wide range of polyphenolics are reported in this work and compared to those found by ABTS/persulfate and Folin assays. The trolox-equivalent capacities of the antioxidants were linearly correlated (r = 0.8) to those found by ABTS but not to those of Folin. The highest antioxidant capacities in the CUPRAC method were observed for epicatechin gallate, epigallocatechin gallate, quercetin, fisetin, epigallocatechin, catechin, caffeic acid, epicatechin, gallic acid, rutin, and chlorogenic acid in this order, in accordance with theoretical expectations. The experiences of other CUPRAC users also are summarized. Dietary antioxidants widely found in fruits and vegetables may serve the task of reducing oxidative damage in humans induced by free radicals and reactive oxygen species under ‘oxidative stress’ conditions. The aim of this work is to develop a simple, low-cost, sensitive, and diversely applicable indirect spectrophotometric method for the determination of total antioxidant capacity of several plants. The method is based on the oxidation of antioxidants with cerium(IV) sulfate in dilute sulfuric acid at room temperature. The Ce(IV) reducing capacity of the sample is measured under carefully adjusted conditions of oxidant concentration and pH such that only antioxidants and not other organic compounds would be oxidized. The spectrophotometric determination of the remaining Ce(IV) was performed after completion of reaction with antioxidants. Quercetin and gallic acid were used as standards for flavonoids and phenolic acids, respectively, and results of antioxidant measurements were reported as trolox equivalents. The developed procedure was successfully applied to the assay of total antioxidant capacity due to simple compounds such as trolox, quercetin, gallic acid, ascorbic acid, catechin, naringin, naringenin, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid, and p-coumaric acid, and due to phenolic acids and flavonoids in the arieal parts of nettle (Urtica Dioica L.). Blank correction of significantly absorbing plant extracts at 320 nm could be made with the aid of spectrophotometric titration. Plant selection was made in respect to high antioxidant content, and extraction was made with water. The proposed method was reproducible, and the trolox equivalent antioxidant capacities (TEAC coefficients) of the tested antioxidant compounds were correlated to those found by reference methods such as ABTS and CUPRAC. Since the TEAC coefficients found with the proposed method of naringin-naringenin and rutin-catechin pairs were close to each other, this Ce(IV)-based assay probably caused the simultaneous hydrolysis of flavonoid glycosides to the corresponding aglycones and their subsequent oxidation such that the hydrolysis products exhibed antioxidant capacities roughly proportional the number of -OH groups contained in a molecule.  相似文献

This study aims to identify the essential antioxidant compounds present in parsley (Petroselinum sativum) and celery (Apium graveolens) leaves belonging to the Umbelliferae (Apiaceae) family, and in stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) belonging to Urticaceae family, to measure the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of these compounds with CUPRAC (cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity) and ABTS spectrophotometric methods, and to correlate the TAC with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) findings. The CUPRAC spectrophotometric method of TAC assay using copper(II)-neocuproine (2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) as the chromogenic oxidant was developed in our laboratories. The individual antioxidant constituents of plant extracts were identified and quantified by HPLC on a C18 column using a modified mobile phase of gradient elution comprised of MeOH-0.2% o-phosphoric acid and UV detection for polyphenols at 280 nm. The TAC values of HPLC-quantified antioxidant constituents were found, and compared for the first time with those found by CUPRAC. The TAC of HPLC-quantified compounds accounted for a relatively high percentage of the observed CUPRAC capacities of plant extracts, namely 81% of nettle, 60-77% of parsley (in different hydrolyzates of extract and solid sample), and 41-57% of celery leaves (in different hydrolyzates). The CUPRAC total capacities of the 70% MeOH extracts of studied plants (in the units of mmol trolox g−1 plant) were in the order: celery leaves > nettle > parsley. The TAC calculated with the aid of HPLC-spectrophotometry did not compensate for 100% of the CUPRAC total capacities, because all flavonoid glycosides subjected to hydrolysis were either not detectable with HPLC, or not converted to the corresponding aglycons (i.e., easily detectable and quantifiable with HPLC) during the hydrolysis step.  相似文献

Catalytic activity of Mn(III) and Fe(III) complexes of meso-tetra(n-propyl)porphyrin, MnT(n-Pr)P(X) and FeT(n-Pr)P(X) (X = Cl, SCN, OAc) in oxidation of olefins with tetra-n-butylammonium periodate at room temperature has been studied. The influence of different parameters including the molar ratio of catalyst to imidazole, type of counter ion (X) and oxidative stability of metalloporphyrins on the efficiency of the catalysts was investigated. The results of competitive oxidation of cis- and trans-stilbene suggest the presence of a high-valent Mn-oxo as the predominant oxidant species in equilibrium with a six coordinate complex, MnT(n-Pr)P(ImH)(IO4) in the case of MnT(n-Pr)P(OAc). An unusual preference for trans-stilbene over cis-stilbene was observed in the reaction catalyzed by FeT(n-Pr)P(OAc). Control reaction indicated a significant cis- to trans-isomerization (81%) in oxidation of cis-stilbene catalyzed by FeT(n-Pr)P(OAc) which may explain the observed unusual cis to trans-stilbene oxide ratio. While oxidation of cyclooctene and styrene led to the exclusive formation of the corresponding epoxides, oxidation of cyclohexene gave 2-cyclohexe-1-ol and cyclohexene oxide as the products. However, the results of this study clearly demonstrate the key role played by the group substituted at the meso positions of metalloporphyrins on their catalytic activity, apart from the electron-donating or electron-withdrawing properties of the substituents.  相似文献

Preparation of affinity polyacrylamide gels containing immobilized Fe(III) ions for the separation of proteins exhibiting metal ion binding properties is described. The presented method enables uniform distribution of immobilized metal ions in the affinity part of the polyacrylamide separating gel. Affinity gels prepared by this way are suitable to follow the effect of different concentrations of metal ions immobilized in polyacrylamide gel on a protein electrophoretic behavior. Polyacrylamide gels containing immobilized Fe(III) ions were used to study the electrophoretic behavior of two model proteins differing in their phosphate group content: chicken ovalbumin and bovine α‐casein. For the electrophoretic separation, both the native and the denaturating conditions were used.  相似文献

In this study, the role of oxygen in the regeneration of Fe(III) during the degradation of atrazine in UV/Fe(III) process was studied. The degradations of atrazine in UV/Fe(III) and UV-photolysis processes in the presence and absence of oxygen were compared. The results showed that the degradations of atrazine in these processes followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics well. The process exhibiting the highest rate constant (k) was UV/Fe(III)/air process, because k-value for UV/Fe(III)/air process was about 1.47, 2.23 and 2.56 times of those for UV/Fe(III)/N2, UV/air and UV/N2 processes, respectively. The degradation of atrazine was enhanced by oxygen in UV/Fe(III) process and the enhancement was more remarkable at higher initial concentrations of Fe(III). The investigation into the changes of Fe(III) concentrations demonstrated that the presence of oxygen led to the regeneration of Fe(III), which resulted in the enhancement of atrazine degradation. With air bubbling, the ferric ions were 25% more than those with N2 bubbling. The experimental data showed the regeneration of Fe(III) required the excited organic molecules and oxygen and on the basis of these results, the regeneration mechanism of Fe(III) was proposed. It was also found that due to the oxidation of Fe(II), the degradation of atrazine in UV/Fe(II)/air process was effective at a low Fe(II) concentration of 7 mg/L, similar to that in UV/Fe(III)/air process. This study makes clear the role of oxygen in the regeneration of Fe(III), and thus it provides a guide to reduce the input of Fe(III) and is helpful to the application of UV/Fe(III) process in practice.  相似文献

This work presents a new flow-based coupled electrochemical technique for evaluation of “total antioxidant capacity (TAC)”. A sequential injection (SI) with amperometric detection was applied to the TAC analysis of commercial instant ginger infusion beverages using 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assay. Besides having chromogenic properties, the ABTS reagent behaves as an electroactive species at the glassy carbon electrode in phosphate buffer pH 7.0, the decrease of the cathodic current signal of the ABTS+ radical after reaction with antioxidants can be monitored. The SI system, furnished with an in-house electrochemical detection cell (ECD), was optimized with respect to the applied potential, sample and reagent volume, and flow rate to the detector. Gallic acid was used as the standard antioxidant and the capacity was reported as gallic acid equivalent (GAE) unit. TAC measurements of ginger infusions at the optimum condition were performed using the proposed technique and also with the classical batch spectrophotometric ABTS assay. TAC values obtained from our method and the standard method are in good agreement (r2 = 0.956). The SI-amperometric technique provided satisfactory precision (4.11% RSD) with rapid sample throughput (40 samples h−1). Also using this method, the consumption of the expensive ABTS reagent was greatly reduced.  相似文献

Two polydentade Schiff base ligands and their Ru(III), Cr(III) and Fe(III) complexes were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N), UV/Vis, FT IR, 1H and 13C NMR, LC–MS/MS, molar conductivity and magnetic susceptibility techniques. The absorption bands in the electronic spectra and magnetic moment measurements verified an octahedral environment around the metal ions in the complexes. The thermal stabilities were investigated using TGA. The synthesized complexes were used in the catalytic oxidation of 2-methyl naphthalene (2MN) to 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone; vitamin K3, menadione, 2MNQ; using hydrogen peroxide, acetic acid and sulfuric acid. L1-Fe(III) complex showed very efficient catalytic activity with 58.54% selectivity in the conversions of 79.11%.  相似文献

Various dietary polyphenolics have been found to show an inhibitory effect on xanthine oxidase (XO) which mediates oxidative stress-originated diseases because of its ability to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), including superoxide anion radical (O2) and hydrogen peroxide. XO activity has usually been determined by following the rate of uric acid formation from xanthine-xanthine oxidase (X-XO) system using the classical XO activity assay (UV-method) at 295 nm. Since some polyphenolics have strong absorption from the UV to visible region, XO-inhibitory activity of polyphenolics was alternatively determined without interference by directly measuring the formation of uric acid and hydrogen peroxide using the modified CUPRAC (cupric reducing antioxidant capacity) spectrophotometric method at 450 nm. The CUPRAC absorbance of the incubation solution due to the reduction of Cu(II)-neocuproine reagent by the products of the X-XO system decreased in the presence of polyphenolics, the difference being proportional to the XO inhibition ability of the tested compound. The structure-activity relationship revealed that the flavones and flavonols with a 7-hydroxyl group such as apigenin, luteolin, kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin inhibited XO-inhibitory activity at low concentrations (IC50 values from 1.46 to 1.90 μM), while the flavan-3-ols and naringin were less inhibitory. The findings of the developed method for quercetin and catechin in the presence of catalase were statistically alike with those of HPLC. In addition to polyphenolics, five kinds of herbs were evaluated for their XO-inhibitory activity using the developed method. The proposed spectrophotometric method was practical, low-cost, rapid, and could reliably assay uric acid and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of polyphenols (flavonoids, simple phenolic acids and hydroxycinnamic acids), and less open to interferences by UV-absorbing substances.  相似文献

In this study, the imine‐graphene hybrid material (HM) was used as an adsorbent for removal of Fe(III) and Cr(III) metal ions from the drinking waters. The adsorbent material (HM) was prepared at three steps. At the first step, the graphite was oxidized by Hummer's method for preparation of graphene oxide (GO), in the second step, the silanization derivative (GO‐APTES) was obtained from the reaction of the 3‐(trimethoxysilyl) propylamine and GO. In the final step, the hybrid material (HM) was synthesized from the reaction of the 3,5‐diiodosalicylaldehyde and GO‐APTES. The chemical structures of three materials GO, GO‐APTES and HB were characterized by using the FT‐IR, XRD, EDX, SEM, TEM and UV‐vis methods. Thermal properties of the materials GO, GO‐APTES and HB were investigated by TGA/DTA methods in the 25–1000°C temperature range. Adsorption and desorption studies of the hybrid material toward Fe(III) and Cr(III) metal ions were investigated using the Batch method. The effect of pH, contact time, temperature, concentration on the adsorption properties of the hybrid material were investigated by ICP‐OES. The Fe(III) and Cr(III) ions have the maximum adsorption at the pH 7. The adsorption capacity decreases with the increase in pH values because above pH 9 the adsorption decreases due to the precipitation of metal hydroxide.  相似文献

Both Al(III) and Fe(III) display a rich hydrolytic chemistry which can lead to the formation of a variety of aggregated oxo and hydroxo-bridged aggregates. The formation, structures and properties of these species are important in defining the availability and reactivity of these species in aqueous environments such as are found in biological systems and the environment. Although there are many similarities in the behaviour of the Al3+ and Fe3+ ions there are also some important differences between these two metal ions which can lead to a divergence in their chemistries. These considerations are discussed and illustrated with reference to 16 Al(III) and Fe(III) compounds, which have been crystallographically characterised, and which form in aqueous environments in the presence of chelating ligands containing the iminodiacetate functionality.  相似文献

An efficient synthesis of p-arylquinols by the oxidation of 4-arylphenol trimethylsilyl ethers with phenyliodine(III) diacetate (PIDA) is reported. This protocol greatly improved the yield of p-quinol by minimizing oligomer side products compared to the oxidation of free phenol with hypervalent iodine(III) reagents. The innocuity of phenyliodine(III) diacetate associated with the mild conditions make the method highly competitive over metal-mediated oxidation reactions. The proposed reaction mechanism is discussed and compared to the generally accepted mechanism of 4-substituted phenols to explain the yield improvement.  相似文献

The method exploits the possibilities of flow injection gradient titration in a system of reversed flow with spectrophotometric detection. In the developed approach a small amount of titrant (EDTA) is injected into a stream of sample containing a mixture of indicators (sulfosalicylic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline). In acid environment sulfosalicylic acid forms a complex with Fe(III), whereas 1,10-phenanthroline forms a complex with Fe(II). Measurements are performed at wavelength λ = 530 nm when radiation is absorbed by both complexes. After injection EDTA replaces sulfosalicylic acid and forms with Fe(III) more stable colourless complex. As a result, a characteristic “cut off” peak is registered with a width corresponding to the Fe(III) concentration and with a height corresponding to the Fe(II) concentration. Calibration was performed by titration of four two-component standard solutions of the Fe(II)/Fe(III) concentrations established in accordance with 22 factorial plan. The method was tested with the use of synthetic samples and then it was applied to the analysis of water samples taken from artesian wells. Under optimized experimental conditions Fe(II) and Fe(III) were determined with precision less than 0.8 and 2.5% (RSD) and accuracy less than 3.2 and 5.1% (relative error) within the concentration ranges of 0.1-3.0 and 0.9-3.5 mg L−1 of both analytes, respectively.  相似文献

Studies of IR and Raman spectra of monohydrates MI2[MIIICl5(H2O)] (where MI=K+, Rb+, Cs+ and MIII=Fe3+, In3+) at 1400-1900 cm−1 have been carried out. The medium intensity band, detected in the region 1580-1595 cm−1 was assigned to bending vibrations of water molecules (δHOH). The shift of the δHOH band towards low wavenumbers (1580-1595 cm−1) is a main sign of the water molecule interactions in the chain hydrates. Additionally in the IR and Raman spectra of these salts, the appearance of the low intensity band between 1750 and 1810 cm−1 (νx(H2O)) was observed. In the presented paper we also discuss the influence of MI and MIII cations on the position and splitting of these bands.  相似文献

In this Letter, a selective deprotection of the alcohol protecting 3,4-dimethoxybenzyl (3,4DMB) group is described. The hypervalent iodine(III) reagent phenyliodine bis(trifluoroacetate) (PIFA) is found to be an efficient reagent for the chemoselective deprotection of 3,4DMB ethers in the presence of benzyl, p-methoxybenzyl, methoxymethyl, tert-butyldimethylsilyl, and tert-butyldiphenylsilyl ethers under mild conditions. This is the first example of the selective deprotection of the 3,4DMB group from a hydroxy group with PIFA.  相似文献

The reactions of Ga(acac)3 with N-salicylidene-o-aminophenol (saphH2) and its 5-methyl (5MesaphH2) and 5-bromo (5BrsaphH2) derivatives in alcohols afforded the complexes [Ga(acac)(saph)(EtOH)] (1), [Ga(acac)(5Mesaph)(MeOH)] (2) and [Ga(acac)(5Brsaph)(EtOH)] (3), respectively, in good yields. The crystal structures of 1 and 2 have been solved by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. All three complexes are mononuclear with the GaIII atoms being surrounded by a dianionic tridentate Schiff base ligand, one bidentate acac ligand and a terminal alcohol molecule. Characteristic IR data are discussed in terms of the nature of bonding and the structures of the three complexes.  相似文献

An amide-imine conjugate, (E)-N′-((2-hydroxybenzen-1-yl) methylene)-4-methylbenzohydrazide (H2LPTASAL), derived from 4-methyl-benzoic acid hydrazide (PTA) and 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde is used to prepare Mo (VI), Cu (II) and Fe (III) complexes. The X-ray structurally characterized complexes have been explored as catalyst for amine assisted asymmetric ring opening (ARO) of epoxide, carbon-heteroatom cross-coupling and ethyl benzene oxidation. In addition, their catecholase like activities have thoroughly been investigated. Moreover, the Cu (II) complex selectively recognizes histidine by fluorescence spectroscopy.  相似文献
