Let be a C*-algebra, a subalgebra of its center and Φ: → a tracial faithful conditional expectation. We define the positive projective space as the quotient where G+ is the space of positive invertible elements of , and if there exists g invertible in such that a′ = |g|2a. When is abelian, this space is a set of representatives for probability densities equivalent to a given one. The aim of this paper is to endow ℙ+ with differentiable structure, a linear connection and a Finsler metric. This is done in a way that given any pair of elements in ℙ+, there is a unique geodesic of this connection, which is the shortest curve joining such endpoints for the given metric. The metric space ℙ+ with the given geodesic distance is non positively curved.  相似文献

We obtain a characterization of all locally bounded functions p ≥ 0 for which the equation (E) Δu +p(x)ψ(u) = 0 has a positive solution in Ω vanishing on the boundary, where Ω is a domain of ℝN and ψ > 0 is a nonincreasing continuous function on ]0,∞[. In particular, for Ω = ℝN with N ≥ 3, it is shown that (E) has a (unique) positive solution in ℝN which decays to zero at infinity if and only if the set {p > 0} has positive Lebesgue measure and This condition can be replaced by if p is radial.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to prove some stability result for nonlinear elliptic systems of the form where Δp denotes the p-Laplacian operator defined by Δpz = div(|∇ z|p-2z); p > 2, Ω is a bounded domain in RN (N > 1) with smooth boundary where with h = 1 when α = 1, λ is a positive parameter and f,g are C2 functin on [0,∞) × [0,∞). Let L be a σ-complete D-lattice and BV the AL-space of all realvalued, null in zero, functions on L of bounded variation. We prove the existence of a continuous Aumann-Shapley operator on the closed subspace of BV generated by powers of nonatomic σ-additive positive modular measures on L. A positive operator-valued measure is a (weak-star) countably additive set function from a σ-field Σ to the space of nonnegative bounded operators on a separable complex Hilbert space . Such functions can be written as M = V*E(·)V in which E is a spectral measure acting on a complex Hilbert space and V is a bounded operator from to such that the only closed linear subspace of , containing the range of V and reducing E (Σ), is itself. Attention is paid to an existing notion of maximality for positive operator-valued measures. The purpose of this paper is to show that M is maximal if and only if E, in the above representation of M, generates a maximal commutative von Neumann algebra.  相似文献

Let A be an Archimedean vector lattice, let be its Dedekind completion and let B be a Dedekind complete vector lattice. If Ψ 0:A × AB is a positive orthosymmetric bimorphism, then there exists a positive bimorphism extension Ψ of Ψ 0 to × in B which is orthosymmetric. A classical result of Birch claims that for given k, n integers, n-odd there exists some N = N(k, n) such that for an arbitrary n-homogeneous polynomial P on , there exists a linear subspace of dimension at least k, where the restriction of P is identically zero (we say that Y is a null space for P). Given n > 1 odd, and arbitrary real separable Banach space X (or more generally a space with w*-separable dual X*), we construct an n-homogeneous polynomial P with the property that for every point 0 ≠ xX there exists some k ∈ such that every null space containing x has dimension at most k. In particular, P has no infinite dimensional null space. For a given n odd and a cardinal τ , we obtain a cardinal N = N(τ, n) = expn+1τ such that every n-homogeneous polynomial on a real Banach space X of density N has a null space of density τ . For a given boundary Γ in Rn consisting of arcs and vertices, with two or more arcs meeting at each vertex, we treat the problem of estimating the area density of a soap film-like surface Σ spanning Γ. Σ is assumed locally to minimize area, or more generally, to be strongly stationary for area with respect to Γ. We introduce a notion of total curvature (Γ) for such graphs, or nets, Γ. We show that 2π times the area density of Σ at any point is less than or equal to (Γ). For n=3, these density estimates imply, for example, that if (Γ)≤3.649π, then the only possible singularities of a piecewise smooth (M,0,δ)-minimizing set Σ are curves, along which three smooth sheets of Σ meet with equal angles of 120°. We consider immersed hypersurfaces :Mn→ℝn+1 with prescribed anisotropic mean curvature . Such hypersurfaces can be characterized as critical points of parametric functionals of the type with an elliptic Lagrangian F depending on normal directions and a smooth vectorfield Q satisfying . We establish curvature estimates for stable hypersurfaces of dimension n≤5, provided F is C3-close to the area integrand.  相似文献

A hypergraph is τ-critical if τ(−{E})<τ() for every edge E ∈ , where τ() denotes the transversal number of . We show that if is a connected τ-critical hypergraph, then −{E} can be partitioned into τ()−1 stars of size at least two, for every edge E ∈ . An immediate corollary is that a connected τ-critical hypergraph has at least 2τ()−1 edges. This extends, in a very natural way, a classical theorem of Gallai on colour-critical graphs, and is equivalent to a theorem of Füredi on t-stable hypergraphs. We deduce a lower bound on the size of τ-critical hypergraphs of minimum degree at least two.  相似文献

Consider the periodic solutions of autonomous Hamiltonian systems on the given compact energy hypersurface Σ=H−1(1). If Σ is convex or star-shaped, there have been many remarkable contributions for existence and multiplicity of periodic solutions. It is a hard problem to discuss the multiplicity on general hypersurfaces of contact type. In this paper we prove a multiplicity result for periodic solutions on a special class of hypersurfaces of contact type more general than star-shaped ones.  相似文献

In this paper, it has been proved that and are factorable, where ⊗ denotes wreath product of graphs. As a consequence, a resolvable (k,n,k,2λ) multipartite –design exists for even k. These results generalize the results of Ushio on –factorizations of complete tripartite graphs.  相似文献

In real semialgebraic geometry it is common to represent a polynomial q which is positive on a region R as a weighted sum of squares. Serious obstructions arise when q is not strictly positive on the region R. Here we are concerned with noncommutative polynomials and obtaining a representation for them which is valid even when strict positivity fails. Specifically, we treat a ``symmetric' polynomial q(x, h) in noncommuting variables, {x1, . . . , } and {h1, . . . , } for which q(X,H) is positive semidefinite whenever are tuples of selfadjoint matrices with ||Xj|| ≤ 1 but Hj unconstrained. The representation we obtain is a Gram representation in the variables h where Pq is a symmetric matrix whose entries are noncommutative polynomials only in x and V is a ``vector' whose entries are polynomials in both x and h. We show that one can choose Pq such that the matrix Pq(X) is positive semidefinite for all ||Xj|| ≤ 1. The representation covers sum of square results ([Am. Math. (to appear); Linear Algebra Appl. 326 (2001), 193–203; Non commutative Sums of Squares, preprint]) when gx = 0. Also it allows for arbitrary degree in h, rather than degree two, in the main result of [Matrix Inequalities: A Symbolic Procedure to Determine Convexity Automatically to appear IOET July 2003] when restricted to x-domains of the type ||Xj|| ≤ 1. For n independent random variables f1, . . . ,fn and a symmetric norm || ||X on ℝn, we show that for 1≤ p < ∞ Here is the disjoint sum of the fi's and h* is the non-increasing rearrangement. Similar results (where Lp is replaced by a more general rearrangement invariant function space) were obtained first by Litvak, Gordon, Schütt and Werner for Orlicz spaces X and independently by S. Montgomery-Smith [22] for general X but without an explicit analysis of the order of growth for the constant in the upper estimate. The order is optimal and obtained from combinatorial estimates for doubly stochastic matrices. The result extends to Lorentz-norms lf, q on ℝn under mild assumptions on f. We give applications to the theory of noncommutative Lp spaces.  相似文献

We study those smooth complex hypersurfaces W in having the property that all holomorphic functions of finite weighted Lp norm on W extend to entire functions with finite weighted Lp norm. Such hypersurfaces are called interpolation hypersurfaces. We also examine the dual problem of finding all sampling hypersurfaces, i.e., smooth hypersurfaces W in such that any entire function with finite weighted Lp norm is stably determined by its restriction to W. We provide sufficient geometric conditions on the hypersurface to be an interpolation or sampling hypersurface. The geometric conditions that imply the extension property and the restriction property are given in terms of some directional densities. Let C be a nowhere dense compact analytic subset of a 2-dimensional complex manifold X. A result of Napier is the construction of a neighborhood V of C such that for any covering space in which is holomorphically convex, there is a C exhaustion function φ on which is strictly plurisubharmonic on π-1(V) away from the compact irreducible components of . Colţoiu and Vajaitu obtained a q-convex version of this result for C a q-dimensional fiber of a proper surjective submersion XY. The goal of this paper is a similar version for Cprojective.  相似文献
