We analyze the CP-violating electric dipole form factor of the nucleon in the framework of covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. We give a new upper bound on the vacuum angle, |θ0|?2.5×10−10|θ0|?2.5×1010. The quark mass dependence of the electric dipole moment is discussed and compared to lattice QCD data. We also perform the matching between its representations in the three- and two-flavor theories.  相似文献

Considering a CP-violating QCD interaction, the electric dipole moment of neutron (EDMN) is estimated in a quark model of light mesons with a dynamical breaking of chiral symmetry through a non-trivial vacuum structure. Pion and kaon, being treated consistently within the model, yield to the constituent quark wave functions as well as the dynamical quark masses and thus determine the constituent quark field operators with respect to light quark flavors. Using the translationally invariant hadronic states and these constituent quark field operators, the EDMN estimated here remains well within the recent experimental bound ofD n<11 × 10−26 e-cm with the CP-violation parameter |ϑ|=10−8, which in fact accounts for a strong CP-violation.  相似文献

The precession of 3He spins is detected with ultra-low field NMR. The absolute strength of the NMR signal is accurately measured and agrees closely with theoretical calculations. We relax the usual diagonal constraint on the matrix representation of the eigenvalue wave equation by allowing it to be tridiagonal. This results in a larger representation space that incorporates an analytic solution for the non-central electric dipole potential cosθ/r2, which was believed not to belong to the class of exactly solvable potentials. Therefore, we were able to obtain a closed form solution of the three-dimensional time-independent Schrödinger equation for a charged particle in the field of a point electric dipole that could carry a nonzero net charge. This problem models the interaction of an electron with a molecule (neutral or ionized) that has a permanent electric dipole moment. The solution is written as a series in a basis composed of special functions that support a tridiagonal matrix representation for the angular and radial components of the wave operator. Moreover, this solution is for all energies, the discrete (for bound states) as well as the continuous (for scattering states). The expansion coefficients of the radial and angular components of the wavefunction are written in terms of orthogonal polynomials satisfying three-term recursion relations. For the Coulomb-free case, where the molecule is neutral, we calculate critical values for its dipole moment below which no electron capture is allowed. These critical values are obtained not only for the ground state, where it agrees with already known results, but also for excited states as well.  相似文献

With the idea of evaluating the dipole moment of pentafluorobenzene from a lowJ transition, its microwave spectrum was investigated in the frequency region of 8,000 to 12,400 MHz. The spectrum had been earlier observed by the authors in the 12,400 to 18,000 MHz region which needs reassignment in the light of present investigations. The rotational constants areA=1480·856±0·003 MHz,B=1030·066±0·003 MHz andC=607·496±0·002 MHz. The dipole moment is 1·44±0·05 D.  相似文献

We calculate the electrostatic self-force on an electric dipole in the spacetime generated by a static, thin, infinite and straight cosmic string. The electric dipole is held fixed in different configurations, namely, parallel, perpendicular to the cosmic string and oriented along the azimuthal direction around this topological defect, which is stretched along the zz axis. We show that the self-force is equivalent to an interaction of the electric dipole with an effective dipole moment which depends on the linear mass density of the cosmic string and on the configuration. The plots of the self-forces as functions of the parameter which determines the angular deficit of the cosmic string are shown for those different configurations.  相似文献

We report a new measurement of the neutron electric dipole moment with the PNPI EDM spectrometer using the ultracold neutron source PF2 at the research reactor of the ILL. It is shown that a mixing of ordinary quarks and mirror quarks could induce a large electric dipole moment, dn, for the neutron. For an about 1% mixing the prediction is |dn| ≅ 10−25 e cm. Recent results of two experimental groups, one at the Leningrad Nuclear Physics Institute and the other at the Institute Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, indicate that the dipole moment may have such a high value.  相似文献

The direct limit of electric dipole moment and direct searches for dark matter by electric dipole interaction are investigated with including the electromagnetic nuclear form factor, in case that the dark matter candidate is a Dirac particle. The electric dipole moment of dark matter constrained by direct searches must be lower than 7×10−22e cm for dark matter mass of 100 GeV to satisfy the current experimental exclusion limits at XENON10 and CDMS II. The CP violation of electric dipole moment and the dark matter discovery by electric dipole interaction in the future are considered.  相似文献

We analyse the bound states for a Landau-type system for an atom with no permanent electric dipole moment subject to a Coulomb-type potential. By comparing the energy levels for bound states of the system with the Landau quantization for an atom with no permanent electric dipole moment (Furtado et al., 2006), we show that the energy levels of the Landau-type system are modified, where the degeneracy of the energy levels is broken. Another quantum effect investigated is a dependence of the angular frequency of the system on the quantum numbers associated with the radial modes and the angular momentum. As examples, we obtain the angular frequency and the energy levels associated with the ground state and the first excited state of the system.  相似文献

The electric dipole moment of the neutron will be measured to a precision of 10?25 e-cm in the near future. We explore a new theoretical possibility that P and CP noninvariance leads to a sizable electric dipole moment. We calculate an electric dipole moment of about 10?25 e-cm. In this phenomenological theory, we calculate CP-violating observables in non-leptonic decays from theK 0 ? \(\bar K^0 \) ,Λ 0 ?Λ 0 andK +?K ? systems. In connection with CP noninvariance, the possible observable occurrence of ΔS=2 decays is discussed. We calculate possible branching ratios; in particular that forΞ 0 → π? p can be as high as about 10?6. The possible existence of a weakly interacting, neutral scalar boson, which violates P and CP in the course of its propagation as a virtual particle, is considered.  相似文献

The high resolution molecular beam laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectrum of the (0, 0) band of the [17.6]7.5-X18.5 system of holmium monoxide, HoO, has been recorded field free and in the presence of a variable static electric field. The rotational constant, B0, and magnetic hyperfine structure constant, h, for the v = 0 levels of the [17.6]7.5 and X18.5 states were obtained by assigning and fitting the field-free spectral features. The Stark shifts and splittings in the LIF spectra were analyzed to produce values for the magnitude of the permanent electric dipole moments, |μ|, of 3.96(6) and 4.80(5) D for [17.6]7.5, v = 0 and X18.5, v = 0, respectively.  相似文献

运用MOLPRO软件,采用基组6-31G,6-31G(d),6-31G(2d,3f),aug-cc-pv5z,方法HF(Hartree-Fock)、CASSCF(完全活性空间自洽场)和MRCI(多参考组态相互作用),计算了CO的基态X1Σ+的偶极矩随核间距变化的12条曲线,与基于实验光谱数据的偶极矩在平衡位置的值以及在平衡位置的斜率进行了比较,结果表明,采用MRCI方法,aug-cc-pv5z基组的偶极矩曲线最为准确.平衡位置斜率的偏差小于1%.接着采用MRCI方法,aug-cc-pv5z基组计算得到了CO基态的势能曲线,进而通过求解核的薛定谔方程得到振动能级以及分子力常数,分子力常数与实验值符合的很好.  相似文献
