The tunable growth of metal–organic materials has implications for engineering particles and surfaces for diverse applications. Specifically, controlling the self‐assembly of metal–phenolic networks (MPNs), an emerging class of metal–organic materials, is challenging, as previous studies suggest that growth often terminates through kinetic trapping. Herein, kinetic strategies were used to temporally and spatially control MPN growth by promoting self‐correction of the coordinating building blocks through oxidation‐mediated MPN assembly. The formation and growth mechanisms were investigated and used to engineer films with microporous structures and continuous gradients. Moreover, reactive oxygen species generated by ultrasonication expedite oxidation and result in faster (ca. 30 times) film growth than that achieved by other MPN assembly methods. This study expands our understanding of metal–phenolic chemistry towards engineering metal–phenolic materials for various applications.  相似文献

Porous electrospun nanofibers, as new materials for solid‐phase extraction, were synthesized by electrospinning and coupled with ultra high performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry to determine sulfonamide residues in environmental water. Aligned porous polystyrene electrospun nanofibers were fabricated under the mechanism of phase separation. The high‐specific surface of these nanofibers (70 m2/g) could improve recoveries of the target sulfonamides 4–10 times compared with that of polystyrene nonporous material (3.8 m2/g). Under the optimized conditions, 13 sulfonamide residues showed an excellent linear relationship in the range of 0.125–12.5 ng/mL with a linear correlation coefficient (r2) greater than 0.99, and the detection limits of sulfonamides were as low as 0.80–5.0 ng/L. Compared to the commercial C18 and HLB columns, the homemade porous nanofibers columns had some merits including simple fabrication and extraction process, short process time and environmental friendliness. The optimized method was applied to eight water samples collected from different livestock farms (Xuzhou, China). The results showed that polystyrene porous nanofibers were promising to preconcentrate sulfonamides of different polarities in the waste water.  相似文献

Effective integration of one‐dimensional carbon nanofibers (CNF) and two‐dimensional carbon sheets into three‐dimensional (3D) conductive frameworks is essential for their practical applications as electrode materials. Herein, a novel “vein‐leaf”‐type 3D complex of carbon nanofibers with nitrogen‐doped graphene (NG) was prepared through a simple thermal condensation of urea and bacterial cellulose. During the formation of the 3D complex CNF@NG, the graphene species was tethered to CNF via carbon–carbon bonds. Such an interconnected 3D network facilitates both the electron transfer and mass diffusion for electrochemical reactions.  相似文献

The novel use of nanofibers as a physical barrier between blood and medical devices has allowed for modifiable, innovative surface coatings on devices ordinarily plagued by thrombosis, delayed healing, and chronic infection. In this study, the nitric oxide (NO) donor S‐nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) is blended with the biodegradable polymers polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) and polylactic acid (PLA) for the fabrication of hemocompatible, antibacterial nanofibers tailored for blood‐contacting applications. Stress/strain behavior of different concentrations of PHB and PLA is recorded to optimize the mechanical properties of the nanofibers. Nanofibers incorporated with different concentrations of GSNO (10, 15, 20 wt%) are evaluated based on their NO‐releasing kinetics. PLA/PHB + 20 wt% GSNO nanofibers display the greatest NO release over 72 h (0.4–1.5 × 10?10 mol mg?1 min?1). NO‐releasing fibers successfully reduce viable adhered bacterial counts by ≈80% after 24 h of exposure to Staphylococcus aureus. NO‐releasing nanofibers exposed to porcine plasma reduce platelet adhesion by 64.6% compared to control nanofibers. The nanofibers are found noncytotoxic (>95% viability) toward NIH/3T3 mouse fibroblasts, and 4′,6‐diamidino‐2‐phenylindole and phalloidin staining shows that fibroblasts cultured on NO‐releasing fibers have improved cellular adhesion and functionality. Therefore, these novel NO‐releasing nanofibers provide a safe antimicrobial and hemocompatible coating for blood‐contacting medical devices.  相似文献

Miniaturization of metal–biomolecule frameworks (MBioFs) to the nanometer scale represents a novel strategy for fabricating materials with tunable physical and chemical properties. Herein, we demonstrate a simple, low‐cost, and completely organic solvent‐free strategy for constructing a dl ‐glutamic acid–copper ion‐based three‐dimensional nanofibrous network structure. The building blocks used are available in large quantities and do not require any laborious synthesis or modification. Importantly, we demonstrate with an intriguing example, that the self‐assembly ability of supramolecular nanofibers could be finely tuned with the ligands’ chirality. This offers opportunities for obtaining one‐dimensional hierarchical nanostructures and expands the investigation scope of stereoselective self‐assembly. Furthermore, the material displays good ability in removing anionic dyes from water and inhibits the growth of both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, possibly through the contact‐killing mechanism; this indicates potential applications in environmental issues and antimicrobial nanotherapeutics.  相似文献

Self‐assembled peptide amphiphile (PA) nanofibers are a class of supramolecular materials with promising applications in nanotechnology. Alignment of nanofibers, which is essential for biomaterials applications, is achieved at low salt concentrations in the PA nanofiber suspensions. Regardless of its importance, the effect of ion concentration on the properties of these nanostructures remains unexplored. Using atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, canonical PA nanostructures are investigated to elucidate the relationship between counterion condensation and morphological changes. Simulations reveal that nanofibers with the highest cross‐section density have expanded radii. This expansion decreases the accessible volume for sodium counterions and diminishes the counterion translational entropy, while also reducing the total electrostatic potential. Interestingly, we show that the competition between these effects leads to a fraction of condensed counterions independent of the fiber radius. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A label‐free DNA biosensor based on three‐dimensional reduced graphene oxide (3D‐rGO) and polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was successfully developed for supersensitive detection of breast cancer BRCA1. The results demonstrated that 3D‐rGO and PANI nanofibers had synergic effects for reducing the charge transfer resistance (Rct), meaning a huge enhancement in electrochemical activity of 3D‐rGO‐PANI/GCE. Probe DNA could be immobilized on 3D‐rGO‐PANI/GCE for special and sensitive recognition of target DNA (1.0×10?15–1.0×10?7 M) with a theoretical LOD of 3.01×10?16 M (3S/m). Furthermore, this proposed nano‐biosensor could directly detect BRCA1 in real blood samples.  相似文献

There is significant interest in the development of a sustainable and integrated process for the extraction of essential oils and separation of biopolymers by using novel and efficient solvent systems. Herein, cassia essential oil enriched in coumarin is extracted from Cinnamomum cassia bark by using a protic ionic liquid (IL), ethylammonium nitrate (EAN), through dissolution and the creation of a biphasic system with the help of diethyl ether. The process has been perfected, in terms of higher biomass dissolution ability and essential oil yield through the addition of aprotic ILs (based on the 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium (C4mim) cation and chloride or acetate anions) to EAN. After extraction of oil, cellulose‐rich material and free lignin were regenerated from biomass–IL solutions by using a 1:1 mixture of acetone–water. The purity of the extracted essential oil and biopolymers were ascertained by means of FTIR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and GC‐MS techniques. Because lignin contains UV‐blocking chromophores, the oil‐free residual lignocellulosic material has been directly utilized to construct UV‐light‐resistant composite materials in conjunction with the biopolymer chitosan. Composite material thus obtained was processed to form biodegradable films, which were characterized for mechanical and optical properties. The films showed excellent UV‐light resistance and mechanical properties, thereby making it a material suitable for packaging and light‐sensitive applications.  相似文献

Burn injuries represent a major life‐threatening event that impacts the quality of life of patients, and places enormous demands on the global healthcare systems. This study introduces the fabrication and characterization of a novel wound dressing made of core–shell hyaluronic acid–silk fibroin/zinc oxide (ZO) nanofibers for treatment of burn injuries. The core–shell configuration enables loading ZO—an antibacterial agent—in the core of nanofibers, which in return improves the sustained release of the drug and maintains its bioactivity. Successful formation of core–shell nanofibers and loading of zinc oxide are confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, and energy dispersive X‐ray. The antibacterial activity of the dressings are examined against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and it is shown that addition of ZO improves the antibacterial property of the dressing in a dose‐dependent fashion. However, in vitro cytotoxicity studies show that high concentration of ZO (>3 wt%) is toxic to the cells. In vivo studies indicate that the wound dressings loaded with ZO (3 wt%) substantially improves the wound healing procedure and significantly reduces the inflammatory response at the wound site. Overall, the dressing introduced herein holds great promise for the management of burn injuries.  相似文献

Electrospinning is a powerful technique to produce nanofibers of tunable diameter and morphology for medicine and biotechnological applications. By doping electrospun nanofibers with inorganic and organic compounds, new functionalities can be provided for technological applications. Herein, we report a study on the morphology and optical properties of electrospun nanofibers based on the conjugated polymer poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] (MEH‐PPV) and poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA). Initially, we investigate the influence of the solvent, surfactant, and the polymer concentration on electrospinning of PMMA. After determining the best conditions, 0.1% MEH‐PPV was added to obtain fluorescent nanofibers. The optical characterizations display the successful impregnation of MEH‐PPV into the PMMA fibers without phase separation and the preservation of fluorescent property after fiber electrospinning. The obtained results show the ability of the electrospinning approach to obtain fluorescent PMMA/MEH‐PPV nanofibers with potential for optical devices applications. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Constructing complex nanostructures has become increasingly important in the development of hydrogen storage, self‐cleaning materials, and the formation of chiral branched nanowires. Several approaches have been developed to generate complex nanostructures, which have led to novel applications. Combining biology and nanotechnology through the utilization of biomolecules to chemically template the growth of complex nanostructures during synthesis has aroused great interest. Herein, we use a biomolecule‐assisted hydrothermal method to synthesize β‐phase Ni(OH)2 peony‐like complex nanostructures with second‐order structure nanoplate structure. The novel β‐Ni(OH)2 nanostructures exhibit high‐power Ni/MH battery performance, close to the theoretical capacity of Ni(OH)2, as well as controlled wetting behavior. We demonstrate that this bioinspired route to generate a complex nanostructure has applications in environmental protection and green secondary cells. This approach opens up opportunities for the synthesis and potential applications of new kinds of nanostructures.  相似文献

Continuous polymer nanofibers are available through electrospinning, but most have the same structure in their cross section. This article focuses on the fabrication and the structural and mechanical characterization of pencil‐like double‐layered composite nanofibers coaxially electrospun from solutions of two different biodegradable materials, i.e., gelatin and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL). Transmission electron microscopy and water contact angle measurements confirmed that a gelatin inner fiber was wrapped with a PCL outer layer. Possible applications of such nanofibers include a controlled degradation rate when used as a medical device in human body. It has been found that the tensile performance of the composite nanofibers was better than those of both the pure constituent, i.e. gelatin and PCL, nanofibers alone. The ultimate strength and ultimate strain of the composite nanofibers with 7.5% w/v gelatin in the core and 10% w/v PCL as shell were at least 68% and 244% higher, respectively, than those of the same concentration pure gelatin and PCL nanofibers. Thus, a coaxial electrospinning technique as used in this article can be applicable, not only in developing functionalized nanofibers but also in elevating their mechanical property. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Energetic materials (explosives, propellants, and pyrotechnics) are used extensively for both civilian and military applications and the development of such materials, particularly in the case of energetic salts, is subject to continuous research efforts all over the world. This Review concerns recent advances in the syntheses, properties, and potential applications of ionic salts based on tetrazole N‐oxide. Most of these salts exhibit excellent characteristics and can be classified as a new family of highly energetic materials with increased density and performance, alongside decreased mechanical sensitivity. Additionally, novel tetrazole N‐oxide salts are proposed based on a diverse array of functional groups and ions pairs, which may be promising candidates for new energetic materials.  相似文献

Metal–organic coordination materials are of widespread interest because of the coupled benefits of inorganic and organic building blocks. These materials can be assembled into hollow capsules with a range of properties, which include selective permeability, enhanced mechanical/thermal stability, and stimuli‐responsiveness. Previous studies have primarily focused on the assembly aspects of metal‐coordination capsules; however, the engineering of metal‐specific functionality for capsule design has not been explored. A library of functional metal–phenolic network (MPN) capsules prepared from a phenolic ligand (tannic acid) and a range of metals is reported. The properties of the MPN capsules are determined by the coordinated metals, allowing for control over film thickness, disassembly characteristics, and fluorescence behavior. Furthermore, the functional properties of the MPN capsules were tailored for drug delivery, positron emission tomography (PET), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and catalysis. The ability to incorporate multiple metals into MPN capsules demonstrates that a diverse range of functional materials can be generated.  相似文献

Traditional chromatographic methods for the analysis of lignin‐derived phenolic compounds in environmental samples are generally time consuming. In this work, an ultra‐high performance supercritical fluid chromatography method with a diode array detector for the analysis of major lignin‐derived phenolic compounds produced by alkaline cupric oxide oxidation was developed. In an analysis of a collection of 11 representative monomeric lignin phenolic compounds, all compounds were clearly separated within 6 min with excellent peak shapes, with a limit of detection of 0.5–2.5 μM, a limit of quantification of 2.5–5.0 μM, and a dynamic range of 5.0–2.0 mM (R2 > 0.997). The new ultra‐high performance supercritical fluid chromatography method was also applied for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of lignin‐derived phenolic compounds obtained upon alkaline cupric oxide oxidation of a commercial humic acid. Ten out of the previous eleven model compounds could be quantified in the oxidized humic acid sample. The high separation power and short analysis time obtained demonstrate for the first time that supercritical fluid chromatography is a fast and reliable technique for the analysis of lignin‐derived phenols in complex environmental samples.  相似文献

Dense and homogeneous metal–organic framework (MOF) coatings on functional bead surfaces are easily prepared by using intermediate sacrificial metal oxide coatings containing the metal precursor of the MOF. Polystyrene (PS) beads are coated with a ZnO layer to give ZnO@PS core–shell beads. The ZnO@PS beads are reactive in the presence of 2‐methylimidazole to transform part of the ZnO coating into a porous zeolitic imidazolate framework‐8 (ZIF‐8) external shell positioned above the internal ZnO precursor shell. The obtained ZIF‐8@ZnO@PS beads can be easily packed in column format for flow‐through applications, such as the solid‐phase extraction of trace priority‐listed environmental pollutants. The prepared material shows an excellent permeance to flow when packed as a column to give high enrichment factors, facile regeneration, and excellent reusability for the extraction of the pollutant bisphenol A. It also shows an outstanding performance for the simultaneous enrichment of mixtures of endocrine disrupting chemicals (bisphenol A, 4‐tert‐octylphenol and 4‐n‐nonylphenol), facilitating their analysis when present at very low levels (<1 μg L?1) in drinking waters. For the extraction of the pollutant bisphenol A, the prepared ZIF‐8@ZnO@PS beads also show a superior extraction and preconcentration capacity to that of the PS beads used as precursors and the composite materials obtained by the direct growth of ZIF‐8 on the surface of the PS beads in the absence of metal oxide intermediate coatings.  相似文献

Ultrathin oxide nanofibers are widely used in an array of catalytic applications toward energy conversion and environmental protection. Remarkable progress has been made with regard to the development of engineering oxide nanofibers into unique structures to suit or enable various functions. We aim to provide a comprehensive overview of oxide nanofibers, including the structure engineering, derivates, assemblies and their applications. We begin with a brief introduction to the production of nanofibers with diversified compositions, structures and properties, followed by discussions of the wet-chemistry derivates. Afterward, we discuss the applications of catalytic oxide nanofibers, including electrocata-lysis, photocatalysis and thermal-catalysis. Then we highlight the most significant role of oxide nanofibers as catalyst support for the immobilization of metal nanoparticles. Moreover, we showcase the advanced assemblies based on oxide nanofibers, including their use as multi-functional membranes and foams. In the end, we offer perspectives on the challenges, opportunities and new directions for future development.  相似文献

Hybrid organo–metal halide perovskite materials, such as CH3NH3PbI3, have been shown to be some of the most competitive candidates for absorber materials in photovoltaic (PV) applications. However, their potential has not been completely developed, because a photovoltaic effect with an anomalously large voltage can be achieved only in a ferroelectric phase, while these materials are probably ferroelectric only at temperatures below 180 K. A new hexagonal stacking perovskite‐type complex (3‐pyrrolinium)(CdCl3) exhibits above‐room‐temperature ferroelectricity with a Curie temperature Tc=316 K and a spontaneous polarization Ps=5.1 μC cm?2. The material also exhibits antiparallel 180° domains which are related to the anomalous photovoltaic effect. The open‐circuit photovoltage for a 1 mm‐thick bulky crystal reaches 32 V. This finding could provide a new approach to develop solar cells based on organo–metal halide perovskites in photovoltaic research.  相似文献

Polyesters constitute an important class of materials for in vivo biomedical applications. Poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) is a hydrophobic biodegradable polyester which is employed to a lesser extent in drug delivery applications due to its rather limited range of physicochemical characteristics. Here, we present a new paradigm for the synthesis of functionalized PCL via copolymerization of caprolactone with α,ω‐epoxy esters. Ethyl 2‐methyl‐4‐pentenoate oxide was used as a monomer which was copolymerized with ?‐caprolactone to yield random copolymers of poly(?‐caprolactone‐co‐ethyl‐2‐methyl‐4‐pentenoate oxide). The reaction conditions were optimized to generate functionalization greater than 25%. The use of ester‐epoxides favors a statistical and uniform distribution of monomer along the polymer backbone, which while preserving some of the key properties of PCL such as glass transition that is below room temperature, allows the tailoring of the melting behavior of PCL. The strategy presented herein opens up new avenues for engineering PCL properties for biomedical applications. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. The threat associated with chemical warfare agents (CWAs) motivates the development of new materials to provide enhanced protection with a reduced burden. Metal–organic frame‐works (MOFs) have recently been shown as highly effective catalysts for detoxifying CWAs, but challenges still remain for integrating MOFs into functional filter media and/or protective garments. Herein, we report a series of MOF–nanofiber kebab structures for fast degradation of CWAs. We found TiO2 coatings deposited via atomic layer deposition (ALD) onto polyamide‐6 nanofibers enable the formation of conformal Zr‐based MOF thin films including UiO‐66, UiO‐66‐NH2, and UiO‐67. Cross‐sectional TEM images show that these MOF crystals nucleate and grow directly on and around the nanofibers, with strong attachment to the substrates. These MOF‐functionalized nanofibers exhibit excellent reactivity for detoxifying CWAs. The half‐lives of a CWA simulant compound and nerve agent soman (GD) are as short as 7.3 min and 2.3 min, respectively. These results therefore provide the earliest report of MOF–nanofiber textile composites capable of ultra‐fast degradation of CWAs.  相似文献
