A photoresponsive discrete metallogelator was rationally designed by incorporating a photochromic azobenzene subunit in the structure of a redox‐active ferrocene–peptide conjugate. The target molecule was purposefully equipped with a dipeptide unit capable of self‐assembly in response to sonication. The designed molecule was shown to undergo supramolecular self‐assembly and achieve organogelation in response to ultrasound, light, heat, and redox signals. The sol–gel phase transition of the designed gelator was found to be sensitive to a plethora of input stimuli, allowing the application of the sol–gel transition behavior in basic logic gate operations. A gel‐based NOT logic gate operation was realized when the redox‐active property of the organogel was examined by using different oxidizing agents. The smart response of the gelator was further exploited in designing XOR operations under oxidizing or non‐oxidizing conditions.  相似文献

Multiple noncovalent interactions can drive self‐assembly through different pathways. Here, by coordination‐assisted changes in π‐stacking modes between chromophores in pyrene‐conjugated histidine (PyHis), a self‐assembly system with reversible and inversed switching of supramolecular chirality, as well as circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) is described. It was found that l ‐PyHis self‐assembled into nanofibers showing P‐chirality and right‐handed CPL. Upon ZnII coordination, the nanofibers changed into nanospheres with M‐chirality, as well as left‐handed CPL. The process is reversible and the M‐chirality can change to P‐chirality by removing the ZnII ions. Experimental and theoretical models unequivocally revealed that the cooperation of metal coordination and π‐stacking modes are responsible the reversible switching of supramolecular chirality. This work not only provides insight into how multiple noncovalent interactions regulate self‐assembly pathways.  相似文献

The fusion of bowl‐shaped π‐conjugated corannulene units to anion‐responsive π‐conjugated dipyrrolyldiketone‐boron complexes resulted in new molecular materials with a unique self‐assembly capability. The bowl‐fused receptor with aliphatic tails could form both supramolecular gels and mesophases through π‐stacking interactions and also exhibited anion‐responsive characteristics. The presence of the π‐bowl unit not only afforded enhanced self‐assembly capability both in solution and in the mesophases, as evidenced by gelation experiments and phase‐transition profiles, but also enhanced intrinsic charge‐carrier mobility.  相似文献

We report on a pronounced specific‐ion effect on the intermolecular and chiral organization, supramolecular structure formation, and resulting materials properties for a series of low molecular weight peptide‐based hydrogelators, observed in the presence of simple inorganic salts. This effect was demonstrated using aromatic short peptide amphiphiles, based on fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc). Gel‐phase materials were formed due to molecular self‐assembly, driven by a combination of hydrogen bonding and π‐stacking interactions. Pronounced morphological changes were observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) for Fmoc‐YL peptide, ranging from dense fibrous networks to spherical aggregates, depending on the type of anions present. The gels formed had variable mechanical properties, with G′ values between 0.8 kPa and 2.4 kPa as determined by rheometry. Spectroscopic analysis provided insights into the differential mode of self‐assembly, which was found to be dictated by the hydrophobic interactions of the fluorenyl component, with comparable H‐bonding patterns observed in each case. The efficiency of the anions in promoting the hydrophobic interactions and thereby self‐assembly was found to be consistent with the Hofmeister anion sequence. Similar effects were observed with other hydrophobic peptides, Fmoc‐VL and Fmoc‐LL. The effect was found to be less pronounced for a less hydrophobic peptide, Fmoc‐AA. To get more insights into the molecular mechanism, the effect of anions on sol–gel equilibrium was investigated, which indicates the observed changes result from the specific‐ion effects on gels structure, rather than on the sol–gel equilibrium. Thus, we demonstrate that, by simply changing the ionic environment, structurally diverse materials can be accessed providing an important design consideration in nanofabrication via molecular self‐assembly.  相似文献

Reactions between the U‐shaped binuclear CuI complex A that bears short metal–metal distances and the cyano‐capped monotopic π‐conjugated ligands 1 – 5 that carry gradually bulkier polyaromatic terminal fragments lead to the formation of π‐stacked supramolecular assemblies 6 – 10 , respectively, in yields of 50–80 %. These derivatives have been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopic analysis and X‐ray diffraction studies. Their solid‐state structures show the selective formation of U‐shaped supramolecular assemblies in which two monotopic π‐conjugated systems present large ( 6 , 7 , and 9 ) or medium ( 8 and 10 ) intramolecular π overlap, thus revealing π–π interactions. These assemblies self‐organize into head‐to‐tail π‐stacked dimers that in turn self‐assemble to afford infinite columnar π stacks. The nature, extent, and complexity of the intermolecular contacts within the head‐to‐tail π‐stacked dimer depend on the nature of the terminal polyaromatic fragment carried by the cyano‐capped monotopic ligand, but it does not alter the result of the self‐assembling process. These results demonstrate that the dinuclear molecular clip A that bears short metal–metal distances allows selective supramolecular assembly processes driven by the formation of intra‐ and intermolecular short π–π interactions in the resulting self‐assembled structures; thus, demonstrating that their shape is not only dictated by the symmetry of the building blocks. This approach opens perspectives toward the formation of extended π‐stacked columns based on dissymmetrical and functional π‐conjugated systems.  相似文献

A new family of isomeric tetrapeptides containing aromatic and polar amino acid residues that are able to form molecular hydrogels following a smooth change in pH is described. The hydrogels have been studied by spectroscopic and microscopic techniques showing that the peptide primary sequence has an enormous influence on the self‐assembly process. In particular, the formation of extended hydrophobic regions and the appearance of π‐stacking interactions have been revealed as the driving forces for aggregation. Moreover, the interaction of these compounds with amyloid peptidic fragment Aβ1‐40 has been studied and some of them have been shown to act as templates for the aggregation of this peptide into non‐β‐sheet fibrillar structures. These compounds could potentially be used for the capture of toxic, soluble amyloid oligomers.  相似文献

The study of the organization of small π‐conjugated molecules is imperative to understanding and controlling its properties for various applications. Coronene bisimides (CBIs) are potential candidates for novel liquid‐crystalline materials and active n‐type semiconductor molecules in organic electronics. To understand the self‐assembly of this seldom‐studied chromophore, we have designed two derivatives of CBIs bearing chiral and achiral 3,4,5‐trialkoxyphenyl groups at the imide position, named as CBI‐GCH and CBI‐GACH , respectively. CBI‐GCH self‐assembles mainly through π‐stacking and van der Waals interactions in nonpolar methylcyclohexane to result in long 1D fibrillar stacks. The mechanism of supramolecular polymerization was probed by using chiroptical studies, which showed an isodesmic pathway for CBI‐GCH . The thermodynamic parameters that govern the self‐assembly are detailed. CBI‐GACH also shows similar self‐assembly behavior as its chiral counterpart. X‐ray diffraction studies of both molecules reveals a 2D hexagonal columnar arrangement. The coassembly of CBI‐GCH and CBI‐GACH shows chiral amplification (sergeant and soldiers experiment) with saturation at 30–50 % of the chiral derivative, which was further used to study the dynamics of the assembly. Thus, this study presents a rare report of chiral amplification in an isodesmic system.  相似文献

Self‐organization of organic molecules through weak noncovalent forces such as CH/π interactions and creation of large hierarchical supramolecular structures in the solid state are at the very early stage of research. The present study reports direct evidence for CH/π interaction driven hierarchical self‐assembly in π‐conjugated molecules based on custom‐designed oligophenylenevinylenes (OPVs) whose structures differ only in the number of carbon atoms in the tails. Single‐crystal X‐ray structures were resolved for these OPV synthons and the existence of long‐range multiple‐arm CH/π interactions was revealed in the crystal lattices. Alignment of these π‐conjugated OPVs in the solid state was found to be crucial in producing either right‐handed herringbone packing in the crystal or left‐handed helices in the liquid‐crystalline mesophase. Pitch‐ and roll‐angle displacements of OPV chromophores were determined to trace the effect of the molecular inclination on the ordering of hierarchical structures. Furthermore, circular dichroism studies on the OPVs were carried out in the aligned helical structures to prove the existence of molecular self‐assembly. Thus, the present strategy opens up new approaches in supramolecular chemistry based on weak CH/π hydrogen bonding, more specifically in π‐conjugated materials.  相似文献

There has been significant progress in the self‐assembly of biological materials, but the one‐step covalent peptide self‐assembly for well‐defined nanostructures is still in its infancy. Inspired by the biological functions of tyrosine, a covalently assembled fluorescent peptide nanogel is developed by a ruthenium‐mediated, one‐step photo‐crosslinking of tyrosine‐rich short peptides under the visible light within 6 minutes. The covalently assembled peptide nanogel is stable in various organic solvents and different pH levels, unlike those made from vulnerable non‐covalent assemblies. The semipermeable peptide nanogel with a high density of redox‐active tyrosine acts as a novel nano‐bioreactor, allowing the formation of uniform metal–peptide hybrids by selective biomineralization under UV irradiation. As such, this peptide nanogel could be useful in the design of novel nanohybrids and peptidosomes possessing functional nanomaterials.  相似文献

A glucose oxidase (GOx)‐mediated glucose metabolism was in vitro mimicked and employed to regulate the self‐assembly of peptide‐based building blocks. In this new stimuli‐responsive self‐assembly system, two peptide‐based building blocks, respectively, having aspartic acid (gelator 1 ) and lysine (gelator 2 ) residues were designed and prepared. When adding glucose and GOx to the aqueous solution of gelator 1 or the self‐assembled fibrillar hydrogel of gelator 2 to construct glucose metabolism system, the metabolic product (gluconic acid) can trigger the protonation of the peptide molecules and induce the phase transitions of gelators 1 (sol‐gel) and 2 (gel‐sol). Because this glucose metabolism regulated peptide self‐assembly is built on the oxidation of glucose, it can be used as a simple visual biosensor for glucose detection.  相似文献

The hierarchical self‐assembly properties of a dimer‐forming cyclic peptide that bears a nicotinic acid moiety to form molecular pom‐pom‐like structures are described. This dimeric assembly self organizes into spherical structures that can encapsulate small organic molecules owing to its porosity and it can also facilitate metal deposition on its surface directed by the pyridine moiety.  相似文献

In this study, spectroelectrochemical (SPE) studies to monitor the electrochromic properties of electrochemically synthesized sub‐10 nm sized Prussian blue (PB) nanostructures (NSs) are employed. At the beginning the dark blue coloured device, shifts reversibly between translucent and dark‐blue while applying an applied bias between +1 to ?1 V with an opposite polarization. Amine functionalized silicate sol‐gel matrix (SSG) is used as a solid support and stabilizer for electrodepositing highly uniform sub‐10 nm PB NSs. The SSG's film thickness is suitably optimized through suitable controlled experiments. It is found that the SPE behaviour of sub‐10 nm sized PB NSs, suitably followed a colour modulation of PB into Prussian white (PW) and vice‐versa. SPE studies are used to investigate the redox switching between the PB and PW and which are responsible for an electrochromic function of a fabricated electrochromic device (ECD). Fabricated ECD has demonstrated an optical modulation at 680 nm with the moderate coloration efficiency of 115.8 cm2/C. Present study validates the SPE feature of sub‐10 nm PB NSs as an active electrochromic nanomaterial and demonstrating the applicability of SPE technique to investigate the variety of electrochromic nanomaterials, with consequences in both spectral and electrochemically active nanomaterials for electrochromic device applications.  相似文献

The controlled self‐assembly of well‐defined and spatially ordered π‐systems has attracted considerable interest because of their potential applications in organic electronics. An important contemporary pursuit relates to the investigation of charge transport across noncovalently coupled components in a stepwise fashion. Dynamic oligorotaxanes, prepared by template‐directed methods, provide a scaffold for directing the construction of monodisperse one‐dimensional assemblies in which the functional units communicate electronically through‐space by way of π‐orbital interactions. Reported herein is a series of oligorotaxanes containing one, two, three and four naphthalene diimide (NDI) redox‐active units, which have been shown by cyclic voltammetry, and by EPR and ENDOR spectroscopies, to share electrons across the NDI stacks. Thermally driven motions between the neighboring NDI units in the oligorotaxanes influence the passage of electrons through the NDI stacks in a manner reminiscent of the conformationally gated charge transfer observed in DNA.  相似文献

Higher‐order super‐helical structures derived from biological molecules are known to evolve through opposite coiling of the initial helical fibers, as seen in collagen protein. A similar phenomenon is observed in a π‐system self‐assembly of chiral oligo(phenyleneethylene) derivatives (S )‐ 1 and (R )‐ 1 that explains the unequal formation of both left‐ and right‐handed helices from molecule having a specific chiral center. Concentration‐ and temperature‐dependent circular dichroism (CD) and UV/Vis spectroscopic studies revealed that the initial formation of helical aggregates is in accordance with the molecular chirality. At the next level of hierarchical self‐assembly, coiling of the fibers occurs with opposite handedness, thereby superseding the command of the molecular chirality. This was confirmed by solvent‐dependent decoiling of super‐helical structures and concentration‐dependent morphological analysis.  相似文献

A novel metal‐induced template for the self‐assembly of two independent phosphane ligands by means of unprecedented multiple noncovalent interactions (classical hydrogen bond, weak hydrogen bond, metal coordination, π‐stacking interaction) was developed and investigated. Our results address the importance and capability of weak hydrogen bonds (WHBs) as important attractive interactions in self‐assembling processes based on molecular recognition. Together with a classical hydrogen bond, WHBs may serve as promoters for the specific self‐assembly of complementary monomeric phosphane ligands into supramolecular hybrid structures. The formation of an intermolecular C? H???N hydrogen bond and its persistence in the solid state and in solution was studied by X‐ray crystal analysis, mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy analysis. Further evidence was demonstrated by DFT calculations, which gave specific geometric parameters for the proposed conformations and allowed us to estimate the energy involved in the hydrogen bonds that are responsible for the molecular recognition process. The presented template can be regarded as a new type of self‐assembled β‐turn mimic or supramolecular pseudo amino acid for the nucleation of β‐sheet structures when attached to oligopeptides.  相似文献

To overcome the limitations of molecular assemblies, the development of novel supramolecular building blocks and self‐assembly modes is essential to create more sophisticated, complex, and controllable aggregates. The self‐assembly of peptide–DNA conjugates (PDCs), in which two orthogonal self‐assembly modes, that is, β‐sheet formation and Watson–Crick base pairing, are covalently combined in one supramolecular system, is reported. Despite extensive research, most self‐assembly studies have focused on using only one type of building block, which restricts structural and functional diversity compared to multicomponent systems. Multicomponent systems, however, suffer from poor control of self‐assembly behaviors. Covalently conjugated PDC building blocks are shown to assemble into well‐defined and controllable nanostructures. This controllability likely results from the decrease in entropy associated with the restriction of the molecular degrees of freedom by the covalent constraints. Using this strategy, the possibility to thermodynamically program nano‐assemblies to exert gene regulation activity with low cytotoxicity is demonstrated.  相似文献

The self‐assembling ability of block copolymers offers an attractive strategy for the organization of π‐conjugated polymers. This article reports the synthesis of a coil–rod–coil triblock copolymer consisting of oligo(p‐phenyleneethynylene) as the rodlike segment and polystyrene as the coil‐like segment. The chemical structure of the afforded triblock copolymer has been fully characterized by various spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, Raman, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, ultraviolet–visible, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The small‐angle neutron scattering and photophysical measurements indicate that this triblock copolymer exhibits unique solvatochromatic behaviors through the interplay of aggregation‐induced π–π stacking and planarization of the conjugated backbone. Supramolecular gel nanostructures have been produced via the controlled assembly of the polymer into H‐aggregates. It has been demonstrated that the use of the solvent composition to influence chain conformations and thus to manipulate the packing of the conjugated polymer blocks is important for achieving control in the assembly of conducting polymers and associated optical characteristics. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis and self‐assembly of peptide–polymer conjugates into fibrillar nanostructures are reported, based on the amyloidogenic peptide KLVFF. A strategy for rational synthesis of polymer–peptide conjugates is documented via tethering of the amyloidogenic peptide segment LVFF (Aβ17‐20) and its modified derivative FFFF to the hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether (mPEG) polymer via thio‐bromo based “click” chemistry. The resultant conjugates mPEG‐LVFF‐OMe and mPEG‐FFFF‐OMe are purified via preparative gel permeation chromatography technique (with a yield of 61% and 64%, respectively), and are successfully characterized via combination of spectroscopic and chromatographic methods, including electrospray ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. The peptide‐guided self‐assembling behavior of the as‐constructed amphiphilic supramolecular materials is further investigated via transmission electron microscopic and circular dichroism spectroscopic analysis, exhibiting fibrillar nanostructure formation in binary aqueous solution mixture.  相似文献

Controlling the self‐assembly morphology of π‐conjugated block copolymer is of great interesting. Herein, amphiphilic poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐block‐poly(phenyl isocyanide)s (P3HT‐b‐PPI) copolymers composed of π‐conjugated P3HT and optically active helical PPI segments were readily prepared. Taking advantage of the crystallizable nature of P3HT and the chirality of the helical PPI segment, crystallization‐driven asymmetric self‐assembly (CDASA) of the block copolymers lead to the formation of single‐handed helical nanofibers with controlled length, narrow dispersity, and well‐defined helicity. During the self‐assembly process, the chirality of helical PPI was transferred to the supramolecular assemblies, giving the helical assemblies large optical activity. The single‐handed helical assemblies of the block copolymers exhibited interesting white‐light emission and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). The handedness and dissymmetric factor of the induced CPL can be finely tuned through the variation on the helicity and length of the helical nanofibers.  相似文献

Fluorescent, cell‐permeable, organic nanoparticles based on self‐assembled π‐conjugated oligomers with high absorption cross‐sections and high quantum yields have been developed. The nanoparticles are generated with a tuneable density of amino groups for charge‐mediated cellular uptake by a straightforward self‐assembly protocol, which allows for control over size and toxicity. The results show that a single amino group per ten oligomers is sufficient to achieve cellular uptake. The non‐toxic nanoparticles are suitable for both one‐ and two‐photon cellular imaging and flow cytometry, and undergo very efficient cellular uptake.  相似文献
