Two new benzotriazole-bridged sensitizers are designed and synthesized ( BTA-I and BTA-II ) containing a furan moiety for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Two corresponding dyes ( BTA-III and BTA-IV ) with a thiophene spacer were also synthesized for comparison. All of these dyes performed as sensitizers for DSSCs, and the photovoltaic performance data of these benzotriazole-bridged dyes showed a high open-circuit voltage (Voc: 804–834 mV). Among the four dyes, DSSCs based on BTA-II , with a furan moiety and branched alkyl chain, showed the highest Voc (834 mV), a photocurrent density (Jsc) of 12.64 mA cm−2, and a fill factor (FF) of 0.64, corresponding to an overall conversion efficiency (η) of 6.72 %. Most importantly, long-term stability of the BTA-I , BTA-II , BTA-III , BTA-IV -based DSSCs with ionic-liquid electrolytes under 1000 h light-soaking was demonstrated, and BTA-II exhibited better photovoltaic performance of up to 5.06 % power conversion efficiency.  相似文献

A series of porphyrin sensitizers that featured two electron‐donating groups and dual anchoring groups that were connected through a porphine π‐bridging unit have been synthesized and successfully applied in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The presence of electron‐donating groups had a significant influence on their spectroscopic, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties. Overall, the dual anchoring groups gave tunable electronic properties and stronger attachment to TiO2. These new dyes were readily synthesized in a minimum number of steps in gram‐scale quantities. Optical and electrochemical data confirmed the advantages of these dyes for use as sensitizers in DSSCs. Porphyrins with electron‐donating amino moieties provided improved charge separation and better charge‐injection efficiencies for the studied dual‐push–pull dyes. Attenuated total reflectance–Fourier‐transform infrared (ATR‐FTIR) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the porphyrin dyes on TiO2 suggest that both p‐carboxyphenyl groups are attached onto TiO2, thereby resulting in strong attachment. Among these dyes, cis-Zn2BC2A , with two electron‐donating 3,6‐ditertbutyl‐phenyl‐carbazole groups and dual‐anchoring p‐carboxyphenyl groups, showed the highest efficiency of 4.07 %, with JSC=9.81 mA cm?2, VOC=0.63 V, and FF=66 %. Our results also indicated a better photostability of the studied dual‐anchored sensitizers compared to their mono‐anchored analogues under identical conditions. These results provide insight into the developments of a new generation of high‐efficiency and thermally stable porphyrin sensitizers.  相似文献

Dipolar metal‐free sensitizers (D‐π‐A; D=donor, π=conjugated bridge, A=acceptor) consisting of a dithiafulvalene (DTF) unit as the electron donor, a benzene, thiophene, or fluorene moiety as the conjugated spacer, and 2‐cyanoacrylic acid as the electron acceptor have been synthesized. Dimeric congeners of these dyes, (D‐π‐A)2, were also synthesized through iodine‐induced dimerization of an appropriate DTF‐containing segment. Dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with the new dyes as the sensitizers have cell efficiencies that range from 2.11 to 5.24 %. In addition to better light harvesting, more effective suppression of the dark current than the D‐π‐A dyes is possible with the (D‐π‐A)2 dyes.  相似文献

Two novel main chain polymeric metal complexes containing 8‐hydroxyquinoline europium complexes and phenylethyl or fluorene units: 1,4‐Dioctyloxy‐2,5‐bis[2‐(8‐hydroxyquinoline)‐vinyl]‐benzene Eu(III) (3) and 2,7‐bis[2‐(8‐hydroxyquinoline)‐vinyl]‐9,9′‐diocthylfluorene Eu(III) (4) with donor–acceptor‐π‐conjugated structure (D‐π‐A) have been synthesized and investigated as dye sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells dyes (DSSCs). They have been determined and studied by FT‐IR, TGA, DSC, GPC, Elemental analysis, UV–vis absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and application in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) as dye sensitizers. On the basis of optimized dye and molecular structure, they have shown solar‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency 2.25% for 3 (Jsc = 4.77 mA cm?2, Voc = 630 mV, FF = 0.75) and 3.04% for 4 (Jsc = 6.33 mA cm?2, Voc = 640 mV, FF = 0.75), under the illumination of AM1.5G, 100 mW/cm2. The IPCE of 3 and 4 are 30% and 46% at 400 nm, respectively. Besides, they showed good stabilities with thermal decomposition temperatures at 280 °C and 225 °C, respectively, which are suitable for DSSCs. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on organic dyes adsorbed on oxide semiconductor electrodes, such as TiO2, ZnO, or NiO, which have emerged as a new generation of sustainable photovoltaic devices, have attracted much attention from chemists, physicists, and engineers because of enormous scientific interest in not only their construction and operational principles, but also in their high incident‐solar‐light‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency and low cost of production. To develop high‐performance DSSCs, it is important to create efficient organic dye sensitizers, which should be optimized for the photophysical and electrochemical properties of the dyes themselves, with molecular structures that provide good light‐harvesting features, good electron communication between the dye and semiconductor electrode and between the dye and electrolyte, and to control the molecular orientation and arrangement of the dyes on a semiconductor surface. The aim of this Review is not to make a list of a number of organic dye sensitizers developed so far, but to provide a new direction in the epoch‐making molecular design of organic dyes for high photovoltaic performance and long‐term stability of DSSCs, based on the accumulated knowledge of their photophysical and electrochemical properties, and molecular structures of the organic dye sensitizers developed so far.  相似文献

Abstract

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have gained great attention as lower-cost alternatives to conventional photovoltaic devices. One way to improve the excellent efficiencies (ca. 11%) exhibited by DSSCs based on ruthenium polypyridyl dyes would consist in using sensitizers with enhanced light-harvesting properties in the red region of the spectrum. Phthalocyanines (Pcs) are very robust molecules which present extraordinary high extinction coefficients in the 600- to 700-nm spectral region. Intensive research has been focused on reducing the undesired aggregation phenomena of Pcs on the metal oxide surface, while keeping a good electronic coupling between the LUMO of the Pcs and the TiO2 conduction band, and a good solubility of the dye in organic solvents. Recently, unsymmetrically substituted “push–pull” Pcs have emerged as efficient red-absorbing dyes, reaching power conversion efficiencies of up to 4.7%, when used as single sensitizers.  相似文献

Double donor-acceptor (D-A) branched dyes (DBD) with a phenothiazine unit as electron donor and a 2-cyanoacrylic acid unit as electron acceptor were synthesized and used as sensitizers for solar cells (DSSCs). The conversion efficiency of the DSSCs amounts up to 4.22% (2.91% for the single D-A branched dye) under AM 1.5 G irradiation. The results show that the performance of DSSCs can be effectively enhanced by the cooperation of two donor-acceptor containing branches in one molecule of the dyes.  相似文献

A new series of benzimidazole ( BIm )‐based dyes ( SC32 and SC33 ) and pyridoimidazole‐( PIm ) based dyes ( SC35, SC36N and SC36 ) were synthesized as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The N‐substituent and C‐substituent at the BIm and PIm cores were found to be the dominating factor in determining the electronic properties of the dyes and their DSSCs performance. The efficiency of BIm ‐based dyes ( SC35 and SC36 ) was found to be higher than that of the PIm ‐based dyes ( SC32 and SC33 ) due to better light harvesting. The C‐substituents in SC36 , a 4‐hexylloxybenzene and a hexyl chain, are beneficial to dark current suppression, and hence SC36 achieves the best efficiency of 7.38 % (≈85 % of N719 ). The two BIm dyes have better cell efficiencies than their congeners with a bithiophene entity between the BIm and the anchor due to better light harvesting of the former.  相似文献

A series of platinum(II) alkynyl‐based sensitizers has been synthesized and found to show light‐to‐electricity conversion properties. These dyes were developed as sensitizers for the application in nanocrystalline TiO2 dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Their photophysical and electrochemical properties were studied. The excited‐state property was probed using nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, which showed the formation of a charge‐separated state that arises from the intramolecular photoinduced charge transfer from the platinum(II) alkynylbithienylbenzothiadiazole moiety (donor) to the polypyridyl ligand (acceptor). A lifetime of 3.4 μs was observed for the charge‐separated state. A dye‐sensitized solar cell based on one of the complexes showed a short‐circuit photocurrent of 7.12 mA cm?2, an open circuit voltage of 780 mV, and a fill factor of 0.65, thus giving an overall power conversion efficiency of 3.6 %.  相似文献

Two novel tris‐heteroleptic Ru–dipyrrinates were prepared and tested as sensitizers in the dye‐sensitized solar cell (DSSC). Under AM 1.5 sunlight, DSSCs employing these dyes achieved power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 3.4 and 2.2 %, substantially exceeding the value achieved previously with a bis‐heteroleptic dye (0.75 %). As shown by electrochemical measurements and DFT calculations, the improved PCEs stem from the synthetically tuned electronic structure, which affords more negative excited state redox potentials and favorable electron injection into the TiO2 conduction band. Electron injection was quantified by nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, which revealed that the highest injection yield is achieved with the dye that acts as the strongest photoreductant.  相似文献

A new‐type of donor–acceptor π‐conjugated (D‐π‐A) fluorescent dyes NI3 – NI8 with a pyridine ring as electron‐withdrawing‐injecting anchoring group have been developed and their photovoltaic performances in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are investigated. The short‐circuit photocurrent densities and solar energy‐to‐electricity conversion yields of DSSCs based on NI3 – NI8 are greater than those for the conventional D‐π‐A dye sensitizers NI1 and NI2 with a carboxyl group as the electron‐withdrawing anchoring group. The IR spectra of NI3 – NI8 adsorbed on TiO2 indicate the formation of coordinate bonds between the pyridine ring of dyes NI3 – NI8 and the Lewis acid sites (exposed Tin+ cations) of the TiO2 surface. This work demonstrates that the pyridine rings of D‐π‐A dye sensitizers that form a coordinate bond with the Lewis acid site of a TiO2 surface are promising candidates as not only electron‐withdrawing anchoring group but also electron‐injecting group, rather than the carboxyl groups of the conventional D‐π‐A dye sensitizers that form an ester linkage with the Brønsted acid sites of the TiO2 surface.  相似文献

A series of new push–pull organic dyes ( BT‐I – VI ), incorporating electron‐withdrawing bithiazole with a thiophene, furan, benzene, or cyano moiety, as π spacer have been synthesized, characterized, and used as the sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In comparison with the model compound T1 , these dyes containing a thiophene moiety between triphenylamine and bithiazole display enhanced spectral responses in the red portion of the solar spectrum. Electrochemical measurement data indicate that the HOMO and LUMO energy levels can be tuned by introducing different π spacers between the bithiazole moiety and cyanoacrylic acid acceptor. The incorporation of bithiazole substituted with two hexyl groups is highly beneficial to prevent close π–π aggregation, thus favorably suppressing charge recombination and intermolecular interaction. The overall conversion efficiencies of DSSCs based on bithiazole dyes are in the range of 3.58 to 7.51 %, in which BT‐I ‐based DSSCs showed the best photovoltaic performance: a maximum monochromatic incident photon‐to‐current conversion efficiency (IPCE) of 81.1 %, a short‐circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) of 15.69 mA cm?2, an open‐circuit photovoltage (Voc) of 778 mV, and a fill factor (ff) of 0.61, which correspond to an overall conversion efficiency of 7.51 % under standard global AM 1.5 solar light conditions. Most importantly, long‐term stability of the BT‐I – III ‐based DSSCs with ionic‐liquid electrolytes under 1000 h of light soaking was demonstrated and BT‐II with a furan moiety exhibited better photovoltaic performance of up to 5.75 % power conversion efficiency.  相似文献

Novel organic sensitizers containing a thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD) moiety with triphenylamine or julolidine as the electron donor have been designed and synthesized for quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). For comparison, two organic dyes based on a terthiophene spacer have also been synthesized. The absorption, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties of all sensitizers have been systematically investigated. We found that the incorporation of TPD is highly beneficial to broaden the absorption spectra of the organic sensitizers and prevent the intermolecular interaction. Therefore, the charge recombination possibility is reduced, which is revealed by the controlled intensity modulated photovoltage spectroscopy. A quasi-solid-state DSSC based on sensitizer FNE38 with TPD and triphenylamine moieties demonstrates a solar energy conversion efficiency of 4.71% under standard AM 1.5G sunlight without the use of coadsorbant agents.  相似文献

A series of novel metal‐free organic dyes containing the thiazolo[5,4‐d]thiazole moiety were designed and synthesized for quasi‐solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Different alkoxy chains were introduced into the electron donor part of the dye molecules for comparison. The optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties for all sensitizers were systematically investigated. It was found that the sensitizers with the different alkoxy groups have similar photophysical and electrochemical properties, such as absorbance and energy levels, owing to their close chemical structures. However, the quasi‐solid‐state DSSCs based on the resulting sensitizers exhibit different performance parameters. The quasi‐solid‐state DSSC based on sensitizer FNE74 with two octyloxy chains possessed the highest solar energy conversion efficiency of 5.10 % under standard AM 1.5G sunlight illumination without the use of coadsorbant agents.  相似文献

Chalcogenorhodamine dyes bearing phosphonic acids and carboxylic acids were compared as sensitizers of nanocrystalline TiO(2) in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The dyes were constructed around a 3,6-bis(dimethylamino)chalcogenoxanthylium core and varied in the 9 substituent: 5-carboxythien-2-yl in dyes 1-E (E = O, Se), 4-carboxyphenyl in dyes 2-E (E = O, S), 5-phosphonothien-2-yl in dyes 3-E (E = O, Se), and 4-phosphonophenyl in dyes 4-E (E = O, Se). All dyes adsorbed to TiO(2) as mixtures of H aggregates and monomers, which exhibited broadened absorption spectra relative to those of purely amorphous monolayers. Surface coverages of dyes and the extent of H aggregation varied minimally with the surface-attachment functionality, the structure of the 9-aryl group, and the identity of the chalcogen heteroatom. Carboxylic acid-functionalized dyes 1-E and 2-E desorbed rapidly and completely from TiO(2) into acidified CH(3)CN, but phosphonic acid-functionalized dyes 3-E and 4-E persisted on TiO(2) for days. Short-circuit photocurrent action spectra of DSSCs corresponded closely to the absorptance spectra of dye-functionalized films; thus, H aggregation did not decrease the electron-injection yield or charge-collection efficiency. Maximum monochromatic incident photon-to-current efficiencies (IPCEs) of DSSCs ranged from 53 to 95% and were slightly higher for carboxylic acid-functionalized dyes 1-E and 2-E. Power-conversion efficiencies of DSSCs under white-light illumination were low (<1%), suggesting that dye regeneration was inefficient at high light intensities. The photoelectrochemical performance (under monochromatic or white-light illumination) of 1-E and 2-E decayed significantly within 20-80 min of the assembly of DSSCs, primarily because of the desorption of the dyes. In contrast, the performance of phosphonic acid-functionalized dyes remained stable or improved slightly on similar timescales. Thus, replacing carboxylic acids with phosphonic acids increased the inertness of chalcogenorhodamine-TiO(2) interfaces without greatly impacting the aggregation of dyes or the interfacial electron-transfer reactivity.  相似文献

A series of new organic dyes, comprising indenofluorene moiety as a conjugated bridge, with an extended π-groups, such as thiophene and furan, diphenylamine as donor, cyanoacrylic acid group as an electron acceptor and anchoring group, have been synthesized. Photophysical and electrochemical measurements, and theoretical computation were carried out on these dyes. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) using these dyes as the sensitizers exhibited photocurrent density (JSC), open-circuit voltage (VOC), and fill factor (FF) in the range of 6.95–8.20 mA/cm2, 0.70–0.71 V, and 0.69–0.71, respectively, corresponding to an overall conversion efficiency of 3.36–4.05%. The best efficiency reached 56% of the standard cell based on N719.  相似文献

Benzimidazole‐branched bi‐anchoring organic dyes that contained triphenylamine/phenothiazine donors, 2‐cyanoacrylic acid acceptors, and various π linkers were synthesized and examined as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells. The structure–activity relationships in these dyes were systematically investigated by using absorption spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and density functional theory calculations. The wavelength of the absorption peak was more‐heavily influenced by the nature of the π linker than by the nature of the donor. For a given donor, the absorption maximum (λmax) was red‐shifted on changing the π linker from phenyl to 2,2′‐bithiophene, whilst the dyes that contained triphenylamine units displayed higher molar extinction coefficients (?) than their analogous phenothiazine‐based triphenylamine dyes, which led to good light‐harvesting properties in the triphenylamine‐based dyes. Electrochemical data for the dyes indicated that the triphenylamine‐based dyes possessed relatively low‐lying HOMOs, which could be beneficial for suppressing back electron transfer from the conduction band of TiO2 to the oxidized dyes, owing to facile regeneration of the oxidized dye by the electrolyte. The best performance in the DSSCs was observed for a dye that possessed a triphenylamine donor and 2,2′‐bithiophene π linkers. Electron impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies revealed that the use of triphenylamine as the donor and phenyl or 2,2′‐bithiophene as the π linkers was beneficial for disrupting the dark current and charge‐recombination kinetics, which led to a long electron lifetime of the injected electrons in the conduction band of TiO2.  相似文献

To design efficient dyes for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), using a Zn‐coordinated phthalocyanine (TT7) as the prototype, a series of phthalocyanine dyes (Pcs) with different metal ions and peripheral/axial groups have been investigated by means of density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent DFT (TDDFT) methods. Computational results show that the iodinated Al‐based dye with a peripheral amino group (Al‐I‐NH2‐Pc) exhibits the largest redshift in the maximum absorbance (λmax). In addition, Al‐based dyes have appropriate energy‐level arrangements of frontier orbitals to keep excellent balance between electron injection and regeneration of oxidized dyes. Further, it has been found that the intermolecular π‐staking interaction in Al‐I‐Pc molecules is weaker than the other metal‐based Pcs, which may effectively reduce dye aggregation on the semi‐conductor surface. All these results suggest iodinated Al‐based Pcs (Al‐I‐Pcs) to be potentially promising sensitizers in DSSCs.  相似文献
