The fundamental problem of dualisability and the particular problem of endodualisability are discussed. It is proved tha every finite generating algebra of a quasi-variety generated by a finite dualisable algebra D is also dualisable. The corresponding result for endodualisability is true when D is subdirectly irreducible. Under special conditions, it is also proved that a finite algebra M is endodualisable if and only if any finite power M n of M is endodualisable. In this paper we consider the cocircuit graph G M of an oriented matroid M , the 1 -skeleton of the cell complex W formed by the span of the cocircuits of M . In general, W is not determined by G M . However, we show that if the vertex set (resp. edge set) of G M is properly labeled by the hyperplanes (resp. colines) of M , G M determines W . Also we prove that, when M is uniform, the cocircuit graph together with all antipodal pairs of vertices being marked determines W . These results can be considered as variations of Blind—Mani's theorem that says the 1-skeleton of a simple convex polytope determines its face lattice. In this paper we consider the question of the existence of a nonstable vector bundle monomorphism u:α→β over a closed, connected and smooth manifold M, when dimension of α= 3, dimension of β= dimension of M=n≡ 0(4). An analogous Bonnet-Myers theorem is obtained for a complete and positively curved n-dimensional (n≥3) Riemannian manifold M n . We prove that if n≥4 and the curvature operator of M n is pointwise pinched, or if n=3 and the Ricci curvature of M 3 is pointwise pinched, then M n is compact. Summary In a recent survey article, G. Grätzer and E. T. Schmidt raise the problem when is the ideal lattice of a sectionally complemented chopped lattice sectionally complemented. The only general result is a 1999 lemma of theirs, stating that if the finite chopped lattice is the union of two ideals that intersect in a two-element ideal U, then the ideal lattice of M is sectionally complemented. In this paper, we present examples showing that in many ways their result is optimal. A typical result is the following: For any finite sectionally complemented lattice U with more than two elements, there exists a finite sectionally complemented chopped lattice M that is (i) the union of two ideals intersecting in the ideal U; (ii) the ideal lattice of M is not sectionally complemented.  相似文献

Summary. The cascade algorithm with mask a and dilation M generates a sequence by the iterative process from a starting function where M is a dilation matrix. A complete characterization is given for the strong convergence of cascade algorithms in Sobolev spaces for the case in which M is isotropic. The results on the convergence of cascade algorithms are used to deduce simple conditions for the computation of integrals of products of derivatives of refinable functions and wavelets. A convex body N moves such that it touches a closed surface M. While doing this, it is undergoing a purely translational motion. A fixed point of N traces out the general offset surface during this motion. M   is a non-contractible subcomplex of a simplex S then M is evasive. In this paper we make this result quantitative, and show that the more non-contractible M is, the more evasive M is. Recall that M is evasive if for every decision tree algorithm A there is a face of S that requires that one examines all vertices of S (in the order determined by A) before one is able to determine whether or not lies in M. We call such faces evaders of A. M is nonevasive if and only if there is a decision tree algorithm A with no evaders. A main result of this paper is that for any decision tree algorithm A, there is a CW complex M', homotopy equivalent to M, such that the number of cells in M' is precisely
where the constant is +1 if the emptyset is not an evader of A, and -1 otherwise. In particular, this implies that if there is a decision tree algorithm with no evaders, then M is homotopy equivalent to a point. This is the theorem in [12]. In fact, in [12] it was shown that if M is non-collapsible then M is evasive, and we also present a quantitative version of this more precise statement. Let Focal(∂M) be the focal distance of ∂M in M. Then conditions are given that imply the equality roll(M)= Focal(∂M). This generalizes Blaschke's rolling theorem from bounded convex domains in Euclidean space to more general Euclidean domains and to Riemannian manifolds with boundary. Let R be a complete local ring of dimension d over a perfect field of prime characteristic p, and let M be an R-module of finite length and finite projective dimension. S. Dutta showed that the equality holds when the ring R is a complete intersection or a Gorenstein ring of dimension at most 3. We construct a module over a Gorenstein ring R of dimension five for which this equality fails to hold. This then provides an example of a nonzero Todd class , and of a bounded free complex whose local Chern character does not vanish on this class. Received: February 11, 1999  相似文献

The homological degree is a cohomological degree generalizing the classical degree function of a module. Given a finitely generated graded module M, over a standard graded ring A, this note is concerned with the question of when, for an element x in the augmentation ideal of A that is not in any associated prime of M other than the augmentation ideal itself, the homological degree of M is equal to the homological degree of M/xM. A submanifold M of a Euclidean space is called diametrical with respect to a centre p if it admits a tangent preserving diffeomorphism such that the chords connecting the points on M with their images pass through p. Characterisations are given for the obvious situation, when M is reflectionally symmetric with respect to p and when M is spherical in addition to this. Moreover, non-obvious examples are obtained and the structure of diametrical submanifolds is investigated in more general cases.  相似文献

Summary. Weighted max-norm bounds are obtained for Algebraic Additive Schwarz Iterations with overlapping blocks for the solution of Ax = b, when the coefficient matrix A is an M-matrix. The case of inexact local solvers is also covered. These bounds are analogous to those that exist using A-norms when the matrix A is symmetric positive definite. A new theorem concerning P-regular splittings is presented which provides a useful tool for the A-norm bounds. Furthermore, a theory of splittings is developed to represent Algebraic Additive Schwarz Iterations. This representation makes a connection with multisplitting methods. With this representation, and using a comparison theorem, it is shown that a coarse grid correction improves the convergence of Additive Schwarz Iterations when measured in weighted max norm. Let M be a noncompact complete Riemannian manifold with finitely many ends. In this paper we study the existence of Green's function for the p-Laplace equation on M in terms of a certain volume growth. We also show that the dimension of the linear space of polynomial growth harmonic functions is finite if a volume comparison condition and a mean value inequality for nonnegative subharmonic functions hold in sufficiently large parts of each end.
