We will establish the following improved Krasnosel'skii theorems for the dimension of the kernel of a starshaped set: For each k and d, 0 k d, define f(d,k) = d+1 if k = 0 and f(d,k) = max{d+1,2d–2k+2} if 1 k d.Theorem 1. Let S be a compact, connected, locally starshaped set in Rd, S not convex. Then for a k with 0 k d, dim ker S k if and only if every f(d, k) lnc points of S are clearly visible from a common k-dimensional subset of S.Theorem 2. Let S be a nonempty compact set in Rd. Then for a k with 0 k d, dim ker S k if and only if every f (d, k) boundary points of S are clearly visible from a common k-dimensional subset of S. A family of subtrees of a graphG whose edge sets form a partition of the edge set ofG is called atree decomposition ofG. The minimum number of trees in a tree decomposition ofG is called thetree number ofG and is denoted by(G). It is known that ifG is connected then(G) |G|/2. In this paper we show that ifG is connected and has girthg 5 then(G) |G|/g + 1. Surprisingly, the case wheng = 4 seems to be more difficult. We conjecture that in this case(G) |G|/4 + 1 and show a wide class of graphs that satisfy it. Also, some special graphs like complete bipartite graphs andn-dimensional cubes, for which we determine their tree numbers, satisfy it. In the general case we prove the weaker inequality(G) (|G| – 1)/3 + 1.  相似文献

Let R(r, m) be the rth order Reed-Muller code of length 2 m , and let (r, m) be its covering radius. We prove that if 2 k m - r - 1, then (r + k, m + k) (r, m + 2(k - 1). We also prove that if m - r 4, 2 k m - r - 1, and R(r, m) has a coset with minimal weight (r, m) which does not contain any vector of weight (r, m) + 2, then (r + k, m + k) (r, m) + 2k(. Let X1, X2,..., Xm, Y1, Y2,..., Yn be a simple random sample without replacement from a finite population and let X(1) X(2) ... X(m) and Y(1) Y(2) ... Y(n) be the order statistics of X1, X2,..., Xm and Y1, Y2,..., Yn, respectively. It is shown that the joint distribution of X(i) and X(j) is positively likelihood ratio dependent and Y(j) is negatively regression dependent on X(i). Using these results, it is shown that when samples are drawn without replacement from a finite population, the relative precision of the ranked set sampling estimator of the population mean, relative to the simple random sample estimator with the same number of units quantified, is bounded below by 1.  相似文献

Landman and Long showed that for allm 2 and 1 q < m, q(m) does not have the Ramsey property, while q(m) A m does. We extend these results to various finite unions of q(m) 's andA t 's. We show that for allm 2, q=1 m–1 q(m) does not have the Ramsey property. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for collections of the form q(m) ( t T A t) to have the Ramsey property. We determine when collections of the form a(m1) b(m2) have the Ramsey property. We extend this to the study of arbitrary finite unions of q(m)'s.
