Let {P n , n ?ℕ} be a sequence of Borel probability measures on a compact and connected metric space X. We show that in case the measures P n converge weakly to a fully supported limit measure P, there exist uniformly converging random variables X n , n ?ℕ with these given laws. Connectivity and compactness are necessary conditions for our theorem to hold. We also present a decent generalization. We prove our theorem by means of a comparison of the Prokhorov and the so-called minimal L metric. Then we only need to use the Strassen-Dudley theorem and Kellerer's measure extension theorem for decomposable families. We analyze reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces of positive definite kernels on a topological space X being either first countable or locally compact. The results include versions of Mercer’s theorem and theorems on the embedding of these spaces into spaces of continuous and square integrable functions.  相似文献

We focus on the notion of an integrable root in the framework of split Lie triple systems T with a coherent 0-root space. As a main result, it is shown that if T has all its nonzero roots integrable, then its standard embedding is a split Lie algebra having all its nonzero roots integrable. As a consequence, a local finiteness theorem for split Lie triple systems, saying that whenever all nonzero roots of T are integrable then T is locally finite, is stated. Finally, a classification theorem for split simple Lie triple systems having all its nonzero roots integrable is given.  相似文献

Let (X, μ) be a measure space. In this paper, using some ideas from Grafakos and Kalton, the authors establish an off-diagonal Marcinkiewicz interpolation theorem for a quasilinear operator T in Lorentz spaces L p,q (X) with p, q ∈ (0,∞], which is a corrected version of Theorem 1.4.19 in [Grafakos, L.: Classical Fourier Analysis, Second Edition, Graduate Texts in Math., No. 249, Springer, New York, 2008] and which, in the case that T is linear or nonnegative sublinear, p ∈ [1,∞) and q ∈ [1,∞), was obtained by Stein and Weiss [Introduction to Fourier Analysis on Euclidean Spaces, Princeton University Press, Princeton, N.J., 1971].  相似文献

The one- and two-parameter Walsh system will be considered in the Paley as well as in the Kaczmarz rearrangement. We show that in the two-dimensional case the restricted maximal operator of the Walsh–Kaczmarz (C, 1)-means is bounded from the diagonal Hardy space H p to L p for every . To this end we consider the maximal operator T of a sequence of summations and show that the p-quasi-locality of T implies the same statement for its two-dimensional version T α. Moreover, we prove that the assumption is essential. Applying known results on interpolation we get the boundedness of T α as mapping from some Hardy–Lorentz spaces to Lorentz spaces. Furthermore, by standard arguments it will be shown that the usual two-parameter maximal operators of the (C, 1)-means are bounded from L p spaces to L p if . As a consequence, the a.e. convergence of the (C, 1)-means will be obtained for functions such that their hybrid maximal function is integrable. Of course, our theorems from the two-dimensional case can be extended to higher dimension in a simple way. (Received 20 April 2000; in revised form 25 September 2000)  相似文献

This note contains the first example of a 1-parameter semigroup {T pt≧0} of linear contractions inL p (1<p<∞) for which the assertion of the local ergodic theorem (t 10T sfds conv. a.e. ast → 0+0 for allfL p) fails to be true. The first example is a continuous semigroup of unitary operators inL 2, the second a power-bounded continuous semigroup of positive operators inL 1. This answers problems of Kubokawa, Fong and Sucheston. In memory of our friend and colleague Shlomo Horowitz  相似文献

Let G be a compactly generated, locally compact group, and let T be the operator of convolution with a probability measure μ on G. Our main results give sufficient conditions on μ for the operator T to be analytic in L p (G), 1 < p < ∞, where analyticity means that one has an estimate of form for all n = 1, 2, ... in L p operator norm. Counterexamples show that analyticity may not hold if some of the conditions are not satisfied.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to extend the approximation theorem of contiuous functions by Haar polynomials (see Theorem A) to infinite matrices (see Theorem C). The extension to the matricial framework will be based on the one hand on the remark that periodic functions which belong toL (T) may be one-to-one identified with Toeplitz matrices fromB(l 2) (see Theorem 0) and on the other hand on some notions given in the paper. We mention for instance:ms—a unital commutative subalgebra ofl ,C(l 2) the matricial analogue of the space of all continuous periodic functionsC(T), the matricial Haar polynomials, etc. In Section 1 we present some results concerning the spacems—a concept important for this generalization, the proof of the main theorem being given in the second section. To each function ϕ˜(ω) mapping the upper complex half plane ?+ into itself such that the coefficient of ω in the Nevanlinna integral representation is one, we associate the kernel p(y, dx) of a Markov chain on ℝ by
The aim of this paper is to study this chain in terms of the measure μ appearing in the Nevanlinna representation of ϕ˜(ω). We prove in particular three results. If x 2 is integrable by μ, a law of large numbers is available. If μ is singular, i.e. if ϕ˜ is an inner function, then the operator P on L (ℝ) for the Lebesgue measure is the adjoint of T defined on L 1(ℝ) by T(f)(ω) = f(ϕ(ω)), where ϕ is the restriction of ϕ˜ to ℝ. Finally, if μ is both singular and with compact support, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for recurrence of the chain.  In the bootstrap percolation model, sites in an L by L square are initially independently declared active with probability p. At each time step, an inactive site becomes active if at least two of its four neighbours are active. We study the behaviour as p→0 and L→∞ simultaneously of the probability I(L,p) that the entire square is eventually active. We prove that I(L,p)→1 if , and I(L,p)→0 if , where λ=π2/18. We prove the same behaviour, with the same threshold λ, for the probability J(L,p) that a site is active by time L in the process on the infinite lattice. The same results hold for the so-called modified bootstrap percolation model, but with threshold λ2/6. The existence of the thresholds λ,λ settles a conjecture of Aizenman and Lebowitz [3], while the determination of their values corrects numerical predictions of Adler, Stauffer and Aharony [2]. In this paper we use a generalized version of absolute continuity defined by J. Kurzweil, J. Jarník, Equiintegrability and controlled convergence of Perron-type integrable functions, Real Anal. Exch. 17 (1992), 110–139. By applying uniformly this generalized version of absolute continuity to the primitives of the Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrable functions, we obtain controlled convergence theorems for the Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integral. First, we present a controlled convergence theorem for Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integral of functions defined on m-dimensional compact intervals of ℝ m and taking values in a Banach space. Then, we extend this theorem to complete locally convex topological vector spaces.  相似文献

The main result of the paper shows that, for 1 < p < ∞ and 1 ≤ q < ∞, a linear operator T: ℓ p → ℓ q attains its norm if, and only if, there exists a not weakly null maximizing sequence for T (counterexamples can be easily constructed when p = 1). For 1 < pq < ∞, as a consequence of the previous result we show that any not weakly null maximizing sequence for a norm attaining operator T: ℓ p → ℓ q has a norm-convergent subsequence (and this result is sharp in the sense that it is not valid if p = q). We also investigate lineability of the sets of norm-attaining and non-norm attaining operators.  相似文献

In 1957 Robert Ellis proved that a group with a locally compact Hausdorff topology T making all translations continuous also has jointly continuous multiplication and continuous inversion, and is thus a topological group. The theorem does not apply to locally compact asymmetric spaces such as the reals with addition and the topology of upper open rays. We first show a bitopological Ellis theorem, and then introduce a generalization of locally compact Hausdorff, called locally skew compact, and a topological dual, Tk, to obtain the following asymmetric Ellis theorem which applies to the example above:Whenever (X,⋅,T) is a group with a locally skew compact topology making all translations continuous, then multiplication is jointly continuous in both (X,⋅,T) and (X,⋅,Tk), and inversion is a homeomorphism between (X,T) and (X,Tk).This generalizes the classical Ellis theorem, because T=Tk when (X,T) is locally compact Hausdorff.  相似文献

A numerical isomorphism invariant,joining-rank, was introduced in [1] as a quantitative generalization of Rudolph’s property of minimal selfjoinings. Therein, a structure theory was developed for those transformationsT whose joining-rank, jr (T), is finite. Here, we sharpen the theorem and show it to be canonical: If jr (T)<∞ then there is a unique triple 〈e, p, S〉 wheree andp are natural numbers andS is a map with minimal self-joinings, such thatT is ane-point extension ofS P. Furthermore, the producte·p equals the joining-rank ofT. This theorem applies to any finite-rank mixing map, since for such maps the rank dominates the joining-rank. Another corollary is that any rank-1 transformation which is partial-mixing has minimal self-joinings. This partially answers a question of [3]. The properties of solutions of the equationu″(t) =p 1(t)u1(t)) +p 2(t)u′(τ2(t)) are investigated wherep i :a, + ∞[→R (i=1,2) are locally summable functions τ1 :a, + ∞[→R is a measurable function, and τ2 :a, + ∞[→R is a nondecreasing locally absolutely continuous function. Moreover, τ i (t) ≥t (i = 1,2),p 1(t)≥0,p 2 2 (t) ≤ (4 - ɛ)τ 2 (t)p 1(t), ɛ =const > 0 and . In particular, it is proved that solutions whose derivatives are square integrable on [α,+∞] form a one-dimensional linear space and for any such solution to vanish at infinity it is necessary and sufficient that .  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact abelian group and let μ be a complex valued regular Borel measure on G. In this paper we consider a generalisation of a class of Banach lattices introduced in Johansson (Syst Control Lett 57:105–111, 2008). We use Laplace transform methods to show that the norm of a convolution operator with symbol μ on such a space is bounded below by the L norm of the Fourier–Stieltjes transform of μ. We also show that for any Banach lattice of locally integrable functions on G with a shift-invariant norm, the norm of a convolution operator with symbol μ is bounded above by the total variation of μ.  相似文献

If Tt = eZt is a positive one-parameter contraction semigroup acting on lp(X) where X is a countable set and 1 ≤ p < ∞, then the peripheral point spectrum P of Z cannot contain any non-zero elements. The same holds for Feller semigroups acting on Lp(X) if X is locally compact.  相似文献

We prove that the roots of a definable C curve of monic hyperbolic polynomials admit a definable C parameterization, where ‘definable’ refers to any fixed o-minimal structure on (ℝ,+, ·). Moreover, we provide sufficient conditions, in terms of the differentiability of the coefficients and the order of contact of the roots, for the existence of C p (for p ∈ ℕ) arrangements of the roots in both the definable and the non-definable case. These conditions are sharp in the definable and, under an additional assumption, also in the non-definable case. In particular, we obtain a simple proof of Bronshtein’s theorem in the definable setting. We prove that the roots of definable C curves of complex polynomials can be desingularized by means of local power substitutions t ↦ ±t N . For a definable continuous curve of complex polynomials we show that any continuous choice of roots is actually locally absolutely continuous.  相似文献
