In this paper, a new kind of mixed energy variational principles in linear elasticity—the combined energy variational principles is presented. First, we define the conjugate body of an elastic body, which is obtained by changing the boundary conditions of the elastic body. Next, we decompose the conjugate body into two component-states, construct functionals of potential energy and complementary energy, respectively, for the component-states and define the additional hybrid energy between the component-states. Thus the functionals of combined energy can be constructed. Three typical combined energy variational principles are demonstrated and the other forms of combined energy variational principles are given. The application of the proposed principles to the calculation of thin plates with complicated boundaries is shown.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to introduce and to discuss several main variation principles in nonlinear theory of elasticity——namely the classic potential energy principle, complementary energyprinciple, and other two complementary energy principles (Levinson principle and Fraeijs de Veu-beke principle) which are widely discussed in recent literatures. At the same time, the generalized variational principles are given also for all these principles. In this paper, systematic derivation and rigorous proof are given to these variational principles on the unified bases of principle of virtual work, and the intrinsic relations between these principles are also indicated. It is shown that, these principles have unified bases, and their differences are solely due to the adoption of different variables and Legendre tarnsformation. Thus, various variational principles constitute an organized totality in an unified frame. For those variational principles not discussed in this paper, the same frame can also be used, a diagram is given to illustrate the interrelationships between these principles.  相似文献

本文提出一条简单而统一的新途径,系统地建立了线粘弹性动力学中各种简化Gurtin型变分原理,文中首先给出一个很有用的以卷积表示的积分关系式,然后从该式出发,系统地导出成互补关系的五类变量、四类变量、三类变量、二类变量及一类变量简化Gurtin型变分原理,并清楚地阐明它们之间的内在联系,而且,还发现当前在国际上有广泛影响的力学变分原理方面的名著[1]及文[2]中,所给出的四个变分原理的泛函式均有误.本文除给出这四个正确的泛函式外,还建立了一些新的更一般广义变分原理。  相似文献

The fundamentals for the correct use of the method of Lagrange multiplier are presented and illustrated by examples. Some misunderstandings of the method are clarified. Equivalent variational principles are defined. It is pointed out that for a given problem of mechanics, there may be many equivalent and unequivalent variational principles. The functional of the so called generalized variational principles of elasticity with more general forms[16] are linear combinations of the well known functionals given by Reissner and Hu-Washizu.  相似文献

The Lagrangian formulation for continuous media is derived from variational principles for perfectly general mechanical systems. The basic conservation laws for such systems are generated from first principles and these are all referred to general curvilinear coordinates. Specific results are catalogued for spherical and cylindrical coordinate systems. The equilibrium equations for isotropic, homogeneous, and incompressible elastic media are recovered as are some previous results of Bland.  相似文献

A new approach is proposed for the systematic derivation of varïous variational principles in linear elastodynamics. Based on an important integral relation in terms of convolutions given by the authors, the new approach can be used to derive the complementary functionals for the five-field, four-field, three-field, two-field and one-field variational principles more simply and directly. Furthermore, with this approach, it is possible not only to derive the variational principles given by Herrera and Bielak, Oden and Reddy, but also to develop new more general variational principles. I , a variational method for bounding the effective properties of nonlinear composites with isotropic phases, proposed recently by ponte castañeda (J. Mech. Phys. Solids 39, 45, 1991), is given full variational principle status. Two dual versions of the new variational principle are presented and their equivalence to each other, and to the classical variational principles, is demonstrated. The variational principles are used to determine bounds and estimates for the effective energy functions of nonlinear composites with prescribed volume fractions in the context of the deformation theory of plasticity. The classical bounds of Voigt and Reuss for completely anisotropic composites are recovered from the new variational principles and are given alternative, simpler forms. Also, use of a novel identity allows the determination of simpler forms for nonlinear Hashin-Shtrikman bounds, and estimates, for isotropic, particle-reinforced composites, as well as for transversely isotropic, fiber-reinforced composites. Additionally, third-order bounds of the Beran type are determined for the first time for nonlinear composites. The question of the optimality of these bounds is discussed briefly.  相似文献

Since 1979, a series of papers have been published concerning the variational principles and generalized variational principles in elasticity such as [1] (1979), [6] (1980), [2,3] (1983) and [4,5] (1984). All these papers deal with the elastic body with linear stress-strain relations. In 1985, a book was published on generalized variational principles dealing with some nonlinear elastic body, but never going into detailed discussion. This paper discusses particularly variational principles and generalized variational principles for elastic body with nonlinear stress-strain relations. In these discussions, we find many interesting problems worth while to pay some attention. At the same time, these discussions are also instructive for linear elastic problems. When the strain is small, the high order terms may be neglected, the results of this paper may be simplified to the well-known principles in ordinary elasticity problems.  相似文献

A method for establishing generalized variational principle is proposed in this paper. It is based on the analysis of mechanical meaning and it can be applied to problems in which the variational principles are needed but no corresponding variational principle is available. In this paper, the Hu-Washizu ’s generalized variational principle and the Hu’s generalized principle of complementary energy are derived from the mechanical meaning instead of from the generalization of the principle of minimum potenlial energy and the correct proofs of these two generaleed variational principles are given. It is also proved that this is wrong if one beleives that σij, eij and ui are independent variables each other based on the reason that these three kinds of variables are all contained in these two generalized variational principles. The condition of using these two variational principles in a correct manner is also explained.  相似文献

The relations of all generalized variational principles in elasticity are studied by employing the invariance theorem of field theory. The infinitesimal scale transformation in field theory was employed to investigate the equivalent theorem. Among the results found particularly interesting are those related to that all generalized variational principles in elasticity are equal to each other. Also studied result is that only two variables are independent in the functional and the stress-strain relation is the variational constraint condition for all generalized variational principles in elasticity. It is shown that the well-known variational principles for the ideal compressible fluid model in Eulerian coordinates have the following deficiencies:
  1. They are not related to the corresponding variational principles in Lagrangian coordinates;
  2. The variation procedure in these variational problems does not lead to the equations of motion themselves in the Euler form; rather it leads to relations which correspond to definite classes of solutions of the Euler equations. Here allowance for the equations of the constraints imposed by the adiabaticity and continuity conditions limits the region of application of these variational principles to only potential flows;
  3. More general results, involving flows other than potential, are achieved by artificial selection of certain additional constraint conditions imposed on the quantities being varied, and in this case additional clarification is required to ascertain whether any inviscid compressible fluid flow is the extremum of the corresponding variational problem.
A new formulation of the Hamilton principle for the inviscid compressible fluid in Eulerian coordinates is suggested which is free from these deficiencies.  相似文献

In the present paper, we first by Laplace transform present a derivation of principle of transformed virtual work, three principles of minimum transformed energy with influence of rotatory enertia for dynamics of anisotropic linear elastic plates with three generalized displacements. Moreover, the forms with the original in place-time domain corresponding these variational principles are presented.Then by the introduction of the set of admissible weight functions the three minimum principles for the original place-time domain are derived.In each of the preceding groups of the variational principles there are two which are the dynamic counterparts to the static principles of minimum potetial energy and minimum complementary energy; the other principles are formulated in terms of the internal force alone, but have no counterpart in elastostatics of plates.  相似文献

The fundamental equations, governing all the variables of the initial boundary value problem in fully dynamic magneto-electro-elasticity with geometrical nonlinearity, are expressed in covariant differential form. The generalized principle of virtual work is given in terms of convolutions for the present problem. Two simplified Gurtin-type generalized variational principles, directly leading to all the fundamental equations, are deduced by using He’s semi-inverse method instead of Laplace transforms. By enforcing some fundamental equations as constraint conditions, one of various constrained variational principles is given as an example. By simply dropping out selected field functions, several reduced variational principles are obtained as special forms for piezoelectricity, elastodynamics, and electromagnetics, respectively. This paper aims at providing a more complete theoretical foundation for the finite element applications for the discussed problem.  相似文献

An expression of the generalized principle of virtual work for the boundary value problem of the linear and anisotropic electromagnetic field is given. Using Chien's method, a pair of generalized variational principles (GVPs) are established, which directly leads to all four Maxwell's equations, two intensity-potential equations, two constitutive equations, and eight boundary conditions. A family of constrained variational principles is derived sequentially. As additional verifications, two degenerated forms are obtained, equivalent to two known variational principles. Two modified GVPs are given to provide the hybrid finite element models for the present problem.  相似文献
