The effective pump rate for Er-doped fibers by using Yb codoping is analyzed. We show that the level of the pump power required to suppress the ion-pair induced self-pulsing in Er-doped fiber lasers can be significantly decreased by using Yb:Er-codoped fibers due to the increased effective pump rate. Our results show the potentiality of developing stable single-frequency or high-repetition-rate mode-locked fiber lasers by using high-gain Yb:Er-codoped fibers with laser diodes as pump sources.  相似文献

设计了一种结构简单、成本低的TW-EDFL(三波长掺铒光纤激光器),其输出波长分别为1 530、1 540和1 550nm,实现了1.5mW的稳定输出功率。研究了EDF(掺铒光纤)长度和泵浦功率与输出功率的关系,得到最佳EDF长度为4.15m、最佳泵浦功率为200mW的结论。在结构中加入3个VOA(可变光衰减器),运用增益均衡的方法来平衡谐振腔内3路信号光的增益和损耗,避免了EDF在室温下的模式竞争效应。  相似文献

通过对掺铒光纤激光器极限输出功率的受限因素分析,在考虑非线性效应、热效应、光损伤等因素的情况下,结合掺铒光纤激光器的单模条件,计算得到单模掺铒光纤激光在1 570 nm 工作波段下的极限功率为6.34kW。同时计算了在少模条件下掺铒光纤激光器的极限输出功率为53.39 kW。还分析了单频情况下掺铒光纤激光器的极限输出功率,结果表明:在绝对单频的条件下,掺铒光纤激光器的极限输出功率为245W。并重点对实际中可行的提升输出极限功率的改善方法进行了分析,结果表明:降低纤芯数值孔径以及提升少模光束运转下的光束质量是提升单模条件下掺铒光纤激光器极限输出功率的重要手段。  相似文献

Fiber Bragg gratings written in polarization-maintaining fiber are proposed for wavelength selection in actively mode-locked Er-doped fiber lasers. Combined with single-polarization optical circulator, they form unidirectional transmission filters that can be incorporated in polarization-maintaining laser cavities. We have fabricated such a grating in hydrogen-loaded PANDA fiber and we have incorporated it in a polarization-maintaining actively mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser designed to generate soliton-like pulses. Dependencies of pulse duration and spectral width on average intracavity power were measured. The power range over which soliton-like pulses were generated without pedestals was found to be ultimately limited by the grating's bandwidth  相似文献

A formulation is given of the stability criterion for oscillations arising at Hopf bifurcations in semiconductor lasers. A second-order perturbation expansion is utilized to provide nonlinear rate equations for the laser. The rate equations contain terms whose second-order partial derivatives are required in the definition of stability parameters. Using these parameters, a simple statement of the stability criterion is possible. Numerical calculations are included, using typical device parameters, and show the existence of both stable and unstable Hopf oscillations.  相似文献

This paper presents a model describing self-mode locking (SML) and sustained self-pulsing (SSP) in a unidirectional ring-fiber laser using only the interaction between the saturated population inversion and the optical signal circulating in the laser cavity. Gain saturation alone is used to explain SML behavior close to laser threshold and the sharp transition to an SSP regime. The model also describes self-pulsing inhibition to the profit of SML for a sufficiently high pump power. Experimental results agree with most model predictions, but the overestimation of the self-pulsing threshold suggests that the phenomenon is furthered by an effect other than gain saturation.  相似文献

We solve the three-component rate equations for semiconductor lasers with a saturable absorber or for multi-section semiconductor lasers by using a singular perturbation method. The effects of nonlinear gain and spontaneous emission are included in the rate equations. By transforming the rate equations to the generalized coordinates, we eliminate the most rapidly varying term adiabatically for the fast saturable absorber. Then, we solve the two-component nonlinear equations to obtain analytic expressions for parametric dependence of self-pulsing amplitude and self-pulsing frequency. the self-pulsing frequency shifts from the small-signal oscillation frequency to the lower-frequency side as we increase the self-pulsing amplitude. The square of the self-pulsing frequency does not linearly depend on the injection current, in agreement with experimental observations. We also derive an optimum saturable absorber recovery time for the shortest optical pulse generation  相似文献

The relationship between the parameters of Er-doped fiber source (EDFS) and the performance of fiber optic gyro (FOG) is analyzed in theory firstly. Then, the irradiation resistance characterizations of FOG using EDFS with and without spectrum trimming are compared. Through the theory analysis and experimental research, it is confirmed that the mean wavelength of the EDFS with spectrum trimming varies less than the EDFS without spectrum trimming under irradiation, and the FOG used EDFS with spectrum trimming have more stable performance under irradiation. Therefore, to trim EDFS’s spectrum into a Gaussian-like spectrum is an effective manner to suppress the irradiation influence on FOG.  相似文献

A long-period fiber grating (LPFG) was inscribed in a single-mode fiber and was spliced with a ytterbium (Yb)-doped double-clad fiber in order to couple pump radiation of the inner cladding into the core in a cladding-pumped fiber laser. The use of an LPFG permits a partial core-pumping scheme in a cladding-pumping fiber laser because a portion of the pump radiation can be coupled to the core by LPFG. The enhancement of the pump absorption of a Yb-doped cladding-pumped fiber laser as the result of pump coupling by LPFG was 35%, and the maximal output power increased by up to 55% when a 20-W pump source is used.  相似文献

The approximate McCumber procedure is often used to predict the emission cross-section spectrum of the 1.5-/spl mu/m transition of Er-doped glass fibers from the transition's measured absorption spectrum. By applying this procedure to a large number of published Er-doped fiber absorption spectra, we demonstrate that its accuracy is actually statistically quite low: it tends to overestimate the peak cross-section (by up to 75%) and predicts an emission spectrum that is erroneously depressed in the S band (below /spl sim/1530 nm) and inflated in the C and L bands. Error levels are substantial and yield unacceptably large errors when modeling Er-doped fiber devices. We provide analytic evidence that this failure is rooted in part in the approximations inherent to the procedure, and in part in a fundamental limitation of the underlying McCumber relation. Specifically, when applied to broad optical transitions, the McCumber relation yields poor predictions of the emission cross-section spectral shape, the error worsening in the L and S bands, with increasing homogeneous broadening, and with increasing bandwidth. The McCumber relation should be avoided for broad laser transitions, which includes most rare-earth transitions in many amorphous hosts.  相似文献

We report on the experimental generation of highly stable pulse trains with GHz level repetition rate in a ring cavity fiber laser. We show both theoretically and experimentally that the generation mechanism of the pulse trains was due to the cavity induced modulation instability (CIMI) lasing of the fiber laser. Coexistence of the conventional modulation instability (MI) and the CIMI in the same fiber laser were also experimentally observed. The dynamic linewidth of a C3 laser is measured as the gap width between the two cavities is varied. With the modulation applied only to one cavity, the chirping is largest for the gap which maximises spurious mode suppression. The two-stage process of the transient buildup of emission in Nd 4+-doped fiber lasers is described both experimentally and theoretically. After switching on the pump, spontaneous emission increases first until the gain becomes sufficient to compensate for the cavity losses; the laser field then develops and reaches the steady state after more or less regular oscillations. During this second stage, an almost chaotic spiking is obtained either for high pumping rates and/or at low temperatures. The whole set of these dynamical scenarios is not described under the usual assumptions of uniform cavity losses over the whole field spectrum and of pure homogeneous broadening for the transition line, but rather a modified form of the Maxwell-Bloch equations which retains some frequency dependence for the losses in the cavity and the inhomogeneous broadening as well is proposed  相似文献

报道了一种基于石墨烯锁模的全保偏掺铒光纤环形短腔实现锁模激光波长切换技术。利用多层石墨烯可饱和吸收镜不仅可实现被动锁模脉冲序列的稳定输出,并可通过三维精密调节,调制腔内信号损耗,有效控制不同波长激光的增益与损耗。实验表明,通过精密调制10层石墨烯膜可饱和吸收镜,在全保偏光纤激光短腔可实现波长1532 nm和1558 nm 处的锁模激光切换输出,并可实现这两波长附近的双波长锁模激光输出,线偏振度可达18 dB。  相似文献

An experimental and theoretical investigation of how the polarization mode competition and beat frequency of Er-doped fiber distributed-feedback lasers depend on perturbations such as localized transverse forces, back reflections, or changes in pump polarization is reported. Good agreement between the experiments and a comprehensive theoretical model is obtained.
