We study the solutions of a parabolic system of heat equations coupled at the boundary through a nonlinear flux. We characterize in terms of the parameters involved when non-simultaneous quenching may appear. Moreover, if quenching is non-simultaneous we find the quenching rate, which surprisingly depends on the flux associated to the other component. Partially supported by project BFM2002-04572 (Spain). Several models have been proposed for describing the formation of animal coat patterns. We consider reaction-diffusion models due to Murray, which rely on a Turing instability for the pattern selection. In this paper, we describe the early stages of the pattern formation process for large domain sizes. This includes the selection mechanism and the geometry of the patterns generated by the nonlinear system on one-, two-, and three-dimensional base domains. These results are obtained by an adaptation of results explaining the occurrence of spinodal decomposition in materials science as modeled by the Cahn-Hilliard equation. We use techniques of dynamical systems, viewing solutions of the reaction-diffusion model in terms of nonlinear semiflows. Our results are applicable to any parabolic system exhibiting a Turing instability.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a weak coupled semilinear parabolic system with general Wentzell boundary condition. We prove the well-posedness of the problem and derive different conditions in terms of the powers of the nonlinear terms under which the global solution exists and finite time blow-up occurs.  相似文献

For a coupled nonlinear singular system of thermoelasticity with one space dimension, we consider its initial boundary value problem on an interval. For one of the unknowns a classical condition is replaced by a nonlocal constraint of integral type. Because of the presence of a memory term in one of the equations and the presence of a weighted boundary integral condition, the solution requires a delicate set of techniques. We first solve a particular case of the given nonlinear problem by using a functional analysis approach. On the basis of the results obtained and an iteration method we establish the well-posedness of solutions in weighted Sobolev spaces.  相似文献

This paper deals with the blow-up for a system of semilinear r-Laplace heat equations with nonlinear boundary flux. It is shown that, under certain conditions on the nonlinearities and data, blow-up will occur at some finite time, and when blow-up does occur upper and lower bounds for the blow-up time are obtained.  相似文献

We study a mathematical model describing the nonlinear diffusion of oxygen in a living tissue, in presence of consumption due to metabolism. The tissue is perfused by a system of parallel capillaries in which oxygen is carried by the blood both in the form of gas freely diffusing in plasma and bound to hemoglobin. We prove global existence of a unique smooth solution to the resulting parabolic-hyperbolic system.  相似文献

We study the global existence of solutions to a parabolic-parabolic system for chemotaxis with a logistic source in a two-dimensional domain, where the degradation order of the logistic source is weaker than quadratic. This paper deals with a mathematical model describing the cell cycle dynamics and chemotactic driven cell movement in a multicellular tumor spheroid. Tumor cells consist of two types of cells: proliferating cells and quiescent cells, which have different chemotactic responses to an extracellular nutrient supply. The model is a free boundary problem for a nonlinear system of reaction-diffusion-advection equations, where the free boundary is the outer boundary of the spheroid. The free boundary condition is quite novel due to different velocity of two types of cells. The global existence and uniqueness of solutions to the model is proved. The proof is based on a fixed point argument, together with the Lp-theory for parabolic equations with the third boundary condition.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear heat equation with nonlocal reaction term in space , in smoothly bounded domains. We prove the existence of a universal bound for all nonnegative global solutions of this equation. Moreover, in contrast with similar recent results for equations with local reaction terms, this is shown to hold for all p>1. As an interesting by-product of our proof, we derive for this equation a smoothing effect under weaker assumptions than for corresponding problem with local reaction.  相似文献

In this paper, we are concerned with a system of nonlinear partial differential equations modeling a predator-prey system with cross-diffusion in heterogeneous habitats. Predators are assumed to feed on preys with a Holling type II functional response to prey density and preys are assumed to follow a logistic growth in the absence of predation. The mobility of each classes is assumed to be influenced by the gradient of other classes. The existence result is proved by means of an approximation system, the Faedo-Galerkin method, and the compactness method. The global existence of classical solutions is proved under certain restrictions on the coefficients.  相似文献
